It's always helpful to have more USPS locations around, and this one does the job but it's definitely on the smaller and older side. They have the basics: a few mailing supplies and some generic greeting cards, but not much beyond that. The neighborhood is decent, but parking is tough. There's limited paid street parking, and otherwise you'll probably have to walk a bit. As expected, USPS is cheaper than the next door UPS and FedEx stores for basic mailing, but it's worth noting this location closes at 5 PM, which is standard for USPS. In contrast, UPS and FedEx next door are open until 6 PM on weekdays. Also, this location doesn't appear to offer mailboxes for rent, while FedEx next door does. Overall, a functional post office if you're in the area and don't need anything fancy but not the most convenient. read more

I went into the post office in person to make sure my change of address was handled properly since the last two times I filed change-of-address forms, I had to followup by showing my ID in person and forwarding was delayed. Well, even though I went in person to make sure everything went through properly, it didn't. It is six months later and the change-of-address was never processed. I have called multiple times and it just rings until it hangs up. I have submitted online complaints, called 800-275-8777 where USCIS customer service rep, Jermaine was just rude and told me to redo the filing and refused to assist with gaining any accountability. He snakily said, "Well, it's your mail so you should do it" instead of trying to do any intervention or advocacy with the post office. I know that when I have had an issue at another post office, the post master intervened and called me to rectify the situation. Just know that this post office won't even answer their phone and no one will ever take accountability or resolve any problems they cause. Now, I am on hold trying to speak to a USPS customer service supervisor because I still can't reach the Grand Lake post office in Oakland and the 800-275-8777 has so many glitches and poor service. read more

I go to this post office often. I really like how it's a small post office yet they offer almost every service! They have a small PO Box area and they have an area where you can tape up and ship your packages! What I also like about this location is there's a mail box place right next door that offers UPS and FedEx services so it's very convenient! I really like the staff it this location! There is one lady ( not sure of her name) but every time I come she always asks me "How are you doing sister! " she is the sweetest and so personal! Also she always remembers my anniversary! She's really the best. Also the other gentlemen who is always there is very nice. He was very helpful when I went because I forgot my tape and he kindly offered to tape my box up for me! Don't bother going to this location if you don't have time to argue with their inane, arbitrary bulls**t, or to wait around when they're randomly closed. They'll never have padded flat rate envelopes, customs forms, or even stamps when you need them. They'll accept wildly overstuffed flat rate boxes one day and reject barely full boxes the next. I've straight up been told they won't accept any more packages on a given day--at 2:30 pm on a weekday. Save yourself the hassle of their mood swings and go to the one on 13th, you'll save yourself time and frustration. read more

No one answers the phone. Also, USPS marked my package delivered on a Sunday. They don't deliver on Sundays. Came by Saturday and it was closed during business hours. A woman with keys went in and then came back out and said that no one showed up to work today so the post office is closed. I talked to some people behind me and learned that this is typical - people not showing up or showing up late or leaving early. This post office hardly opens on time. And the service is slow. They have boxes in the lobby that they can use to put packages in but they don't use them often. The only person that has any customer service skill is Trina and sometimes she overcompensates. Not sure if she does that bc her coworker lacks skill in this area. This place gets it done. And I'm very thankful that this service is still open and available. I appreciate that they continue to work and keep deliveries coming which is probably a lifeline for so many people at this time. This has always been my go-to Post Office. If I could give -0 stars I would. Went to this post office at 8:30 (when they open) on Monday morning, July 8th. There was a woman mopping the floor and she told the 2 people waiting ahead of me that they could put their packages in the rotating package holder, but she didn't know what time anybody would be coming to work. THE POST OFFICE HOURS BEGIN AT 8:30AM..............Why was there no one there and she had no idea when someone would be coming. This is my 2nd mishap with this post office. I have unlocked the magic key to the no waiting at this post office. Not that I'm going to tell YOU, but I will say...lunch is a bad time and so is closing time...and Monday....and Friday...and weekends. So unless you can squeeze in a daytime trip, be prepared to wait and wait and wait. My second favorite Oakland post-office, but only on foot. There's no great parking. None. You might have luck in the meter parking behing the old Kwik Way (now Lake Merritt bakery)or under the 580...but if you're carrying heavy packages the treacherous walk across lake park (no lights, an oft ignored crosswalk) is particularly daunting. read more

They only have ONE person helping customers and the rest are either on breaks or doing a one person job -_- The line is out the door and they don't care. I was trying to return a blow dryer on warranty. The company wanted me to include the receipt for the shipping in the package so they could reimburse me. The post office wouldn't let me include the receipt in the package, it needed to be sealed before they wouldn't take it. She wouldn't let me pay for the flat rate shipping and stick the receipt in and seal it and hand it to her. She was very rude about it rolling her eyes. I went next-door to "Private mailbox and general store" they were very nice and accommodating.I really appreciate their very helpful and sweet demeanor. This post office sucks big time. There is always a long line that moves incredibly slowwwwwly. They have this hilarious sign on the wall about a commitment to serve you in fewer than X minutes (5 maybe?), and I've never ever been served in fewer than 5 minutes there. They are always out of whatever little form I need, they never have a pen, and the space is hot and uncomfortable and too small for the huge lines they get because they're so slow. The people who work there are unfriendly and inefficient. The worst is that there is bullet-proof glass everywhere, so you have trouble communicating with them, you have to try to slip your money and stuff through a little slot, when they slide stuff back they never push it all the way and you're straining under the glass to grab your stuff, and you have to put boxes in a little turntable. I wonder what happens if you have a big box. The one saving grace of the place is the slim black man with glasses who works there -- he's friendly and efficient. But since you can't control whether you get to his window or not, I'm not adding a star just for him (otherwise I would). read more

From what I am hearing while in line, the folks that work here are nice and helpful. (For example, employee waited and did not laugh while a young man took a picture of the stamps he wanted, texted and got the ok, before buying 200 stamps)... There is also a Pitney Bowes printer so you can print off your shipping label here. But, boy is it hot in herrrrrr. And, it's only February. Plus, no parking. Overall, I like this place better than the location off Fruitvale - although that place has parking and here, you may have to walk by some sketchy characters. If you need to interact, then come here. If you are just going to drop stuff off, Fruitvale or Montclair should be fine. read more

This post office is my to go to, they're pretty fast so don't let the long lines intimidate you. Everyone who works there is patient and helpful, I've never had a bad experience and I always get my mail out in what I believe to be the most economical for me. Anyways I didn't think to write a review for them until today when I had the pleasure of getting helped by Trina. I was mailing my aunt a gift card or two and Trina was advising I get tracking, she corrected the zip code I wrongly wrote, and while she was adding extra tape on my envelope (she's great I know!) she asked me how my day was going. I told her it was my third day of fasting (it's Ramadan) and it was a little rough to adjust, as it always is in the beginning. She was attentive, gave me some encouraging advice and support and when I asked her how her day was, she said: "you make the best of things, thinks can go left real fast." And when the transaction was over she not only wished me a beautiful day but she said: "much love to you on your spiritual journey!" Wow, I mean I didn't have to go into this deep dive discussion of how important this holy month is for me and what it means to me, she just knew and said what I've never called it before: a spiritual journey. Trina, you are special and I'm going to try to come only on Thursday's now to have these meaningful interactions with you. This place really only garners two stars (if that) for the actual postal experience. Here's why I'm giving two extra stars: First extra star for the doorman. OK, he's not really the doorman and doesn't really work for the USPS. He just hangs out in front and mumbles to himself something about "Tyrone better quit playin'. I will fuck his shit up. Honestly, it's easier for me to take packages to work in San Francisco, on public transit, and mail them out of he post office on Sutter than it is for me to use this one. There always seems to only be ONE (1) person working. And to say that they are working hard is a sick joke. The line is ALWAYS out of the door. Customer service is very poor in this location, the employees are rude and the way that they provide 'instructions' are by yelling at the customer. They are very condescending and abrasive and from now on I would rather take my business somewhere else. People give this post office horrible reviews but my experience hasn't been as bad. I live in the neighborhood so I come here frequently to mail packages and purchase stamps. The staff here, particularly the two black women and Asian man, are golden. All three of them are always kind and helpful, and help me figure out the most cost effective way to send my packages. This is a small location in a highly populated area, which means the wait time can be painfully long on certain days and times. On Saturday's during the farmers market, the line often goes out the door. Right before closing time everyone is rushing to send a last minute item so the wait can be long then too. I have waited in that line and it sucks. Now I plan ahead and come during less popular times. They have basic shipping items for purchase and flat rate (any weight) boxes for free. They also have a scale to weigh packages. Again, the wait can be long on certain days so plan accordingly. However, when you finally get to the front, the staff are great and helpful. So remember to be kind, I'm sure they'd rather be at the beach too. read more

Oh, and your job entails talking to people through two inch thick bullet proof glass who look look irritable in line, then have a million questions about their mail, yet wonder why on earth the line takes so long... If that's not a recipe for misery, I don't know what is. Yet, here I was in the post office and the woman who helped me was absolutely the friendliest postal worker I've ever met. Although situated across from the gorgeous Lake Merritt, this post office is in Oakland, after all, and you will find a bullet-proof protective shield separating the clerks from the customers. There is a little crack to provide payment, and any large package will have to be deposited into a rotating conveyer belt type deal. While the aforementioned feature adds some personality to the place, it is unpleasant in a few respects. It has a cramped, dirty sort of feel to it, and they never seem to have pens available for use in the counter areas. Also, your fellow customers come from a cross-section of the American public, such that you might run into during jury duty, or at Walmart. They are often loud, unpleasant, inconsiderate, and overall loathsome. On the plus side, it is open until 7pm on weekdays, which is extremely convenient. The clerks are friendly and helpful; and it's just a short stumble from where I live. read more

This place is allright if you get here during a non-rush time. That being early morning on a workday or some odd hour. If you happen to be here in afternoon the line is often out the door! Also I must agree with other yelpers, it does seem like this place has recently improved. Items are now stocked (used to be always out of everything), now there are pens you can borrow (they used to have none) and employees are nicer. I would say this post office is allright, I only really go here because it's super close to my house, otherwise i wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Not much else to say about it.
