Here I am again, because I haven't figured out printing and shipping from home yet. Save yourself unless you find the magic time when there's no one here. Otherwise expect chaos. I think the staff is all well-intentioned women who are working hard in a very broken workplace. Someone in the USPS please make better signage so people understand how different boxes work. The perfect example of the post office is someone getting to the front then hearing the price of how much it'll cost. The worker tells them it's cheaper if they ship in that box over there. I literally watched someone rip a box open and then stick it in a new box. I don't think they paid for the box they ripped up. How can anyone run a business like this? Yesterday there were three people behind the counter, two working, a long line of people, and then one of the computers froze so it was down to one woman. I see in her face the look of someone who is constantly on the edge of a breakdown. The system here is so broken. People run up to the front to ask a small question which turns into can you weigh this envelope so I know how many stamps to put on it. To I need to mail this envelope but don't have a stamp so I'm going to cut in line and buy one. Then there's the downright frustrated people who keep picking up different packages hoping it works, can't find change of address slips because it's online now, and the list goes on. But all in all if you can wait, and zone out the chaos, and not spend the entire time thinking about how you wish whoever managed this branch would just clean it up, make it easier to understand, upgrade their computers a little bit -- then after twenty minutes or so it'll be your turn. Hopefully you aren't yelling at them for tape and throwing stuff around like I've seen people do. There's almost no better feeling than handing a package over, and saying goodbye. read more

Its a typical post office what can I say. They are generally helpful and will let you cut the line if you need to go back and fill out a different packing slip or something. JUST CHANGED THEIR HOURS to close at 5pm. So no more 7pm. SUCKS read more

This post office is small and has no parking. I ususally just use the drop boxes out front but I have waited in the long ass line to mail something before. I have also ventured inside to use the stamp machines to buy postage and that was fine. If you are looking for somewhere to stand in line, don't go to this location. Try the one on 13th between Jackson and Alice. The parking is easier and the lines are generally shorter. John H. also pointed out that it is not listed on the USPS Find a Business database. He is right. When I looked up the address for this one, the one on 13th didn't come up as one of the next closest locations. Funny! Maybe that is why the lines are so short at that location. read more

Tried to return some boxes to the sender, they ended up at my apartment for Christmas, obviously an old address for the person they were meant for. I tend to come here only because it is so close to home. This particular location is slow; I feel it is understaffed to be honest as many people fill the room and it always seems to be the same two employees shuffling along. (Its not their problem) Gloomy. I registered to have my mail forwarded over a month ago. I have not received one piece of mail and I'm extremely anxious about my Absentee Ballot. I had my friend check my old mailbox and sure enough, there's mail addressed to me WITH the yellow Forward Mail sticker on it with the new address, but it was STILL delivered to my old address. When I check online, my Mail Forwarding is 'active' with a confirmation number. I've been repeatedly calling this post office and it just rings and rings and then someone will pick the phone up and just hang up on me. This has happened several times. I understand USPS us under-funded and understaffed but there is no where to get help on this. I'm across the country for several more months and really need my mail forwarded. I obviously care most about my ballot. If any one has advice on how to get help from USPS, please let me know. I'm desperate. read more

I didn't even know this place was here until I was looking for someplace else. It's one of the smallest post offices I've been to and if there's a big truck parked out in front you probably wouldn't even know it's there. It is what it is, and I don't know if it's me, but I always find it's a little semi-dark inside. Are they trying to discourage people from coming in? The thing that would makes this place stand out as a tourist stop is the bulletproof protection between you and the postal workers. Even spinning doors for your packages have bulletproof protection. I mean, really? Did we not just notice that you could walk straight into the back if we wanted to? But it's a post-office. They're still good at taking my mail, selling me stamps, restocking my supply of $1 coins, and amusing my out-of-town friends. read more

Drive over to the Laurel location instead. This one is a headache EVERY time I choose to go there. I swear to never return every time, but I relent since it's close to home. I have been here so often when only one person is working the window. The USPS requires you ship Priority Flat Rate in their envelopes. However, they never have the padded ones, which is what I had pre-paid for at home and printed my label. In fact this particular location is frequently out of Priority supplies, like flat rate boxes. I left in frustration and drove over to Laurel where they dug through drawers and found me a padded flat rate envelope. Even at Laurel the supplies are a bit decimated. They told me they're not even allowed to order the padded envelopes. HINT: for free you can have Priority Mail boxes and envelopes delivered to your home for free. Go to the USPS.com website and order them. read more

It's a small and busy post office. Some people aren't familiar with shipping requirements and/or they show up with an armful of loose junk and it's USPS's problem that they're unprepared? The staff works hard, efficiently, and always keep it together. If standing in line is the worst part of your day, print the labels at home (it takes all of 2 minutes) and skip the line. read more

Why in the world am I reviewing a post office?...because they are evil and drive me absolutely insane! This "mini" post office sucks really bad as most post offices usually do. The lines are always long, and the stamp machines don't accept pennies! Why would I want to waste precious dollar bills on stamps when I can waste pennies from my penny jar instead?! What irks me the most about this sorry excuse for a post office is that you can't pick up packages here! You have to go to the post office in the ghetto (Downtown, on Grand Ave.) to pick up certified mail and packages. Argghhh! read more

They're friendlier here than most post offices, but all that talking with customers slows it down more than most post offices. I've lived in places with a slower pace of life, but when I'm at the post office, it's always when I'm in a hurry and really want a little efficiency. They've been a bit disorganized here, too. As busy as this place was the clerk that I dealt with was kind & patient. With almost every customer including myself not filling out the required paperwork she never once seemed annoyed. She was able to multitask so well. She was genuine with every customer & extremely helpful. She cared that my package be covered property since it was being shipped internationally. Every time I go here there is someone trying to get away with something ridiculous and the postal employees will listen to them for forever, then politely explain that - No, they can't use a ziploc bag with a postcard stamp on it to mail a quart of battery acid to their friend stationed in Iraq. No, not even if their friend is in the military. No, not even if they double bag it. No, not even if they add a postage stamp. No, not even if they just remembered right now that this isn't battery acid in the ziploc bag but actually windex, because they left the bag of battery acid at home. read more

After I paid to park at a meter in the lot next to BOA, I stood in line for about 20+ minutes to buy holiday stamps for my cards, with two going Air Mail. I had a prepaid and labeled Priority envelope in my hands, to drop off only. This was sometime after 3:00 p.m., and as others have said, there was ONE lady working the window, with a second lady in the corner (maybe working on packages? but whom was not really helping anyone, other than a guy who was trying to ask her a question). When I was next in line, another woman employee showed up in the other window and loudly announced "Does anyone need to buy stamps?" I tried to raise my hand and say that I am, but she immediately dismissed me with "I have my REASON for doing it this way!" in a very abrupt tone. Wow, I was so annoyed, and then she let someone else come up. So I waited for my turn with the other lady, whom at least was patient and put my air mail stamps on the cards, and sold me the stamps (not the ones I was hoping to buy, but whatever, at least they were colorful). Sigh. I don't get why they only had ONE person providing full service, when it's 9 days before Christmas, with a line out the door! I mean, really? I went to Elmwood last year - far more friendly, albeit busy there, but they had a number dispenser at least, and I didn't feel like I was in mailing prison. Avoid this location at all costs - especially during the late afternoon during holiday season. read more

This is without a doubt the worst Post Office I've ever been to. The lines were crazy, the two clerks were slow as molasses, and one kept shouting at customers and coworkers alike. When another customer went to complain to another staff member who was helping me, that staff member left in the middle of my transaction to scream at the customer. Going to the post office almost always sucks, but I've been going to this one regularly for years and love it. Most of the employees are super friendly and they have all be helpful. I do print my labels ahead of time at home most of the time, so that does make my experience easier since I don't often have to wait in line. read more

Thankfully, I have never gotten on her bad side, but I have seen and heard her yell at other people. Mostly, this place is really slow; -I waited in line for an hour the last time I went. My hearing is fine, but either the clerk quoted me the wrong amount, or I didn't hear what she said, because I thought she quoted me quite a high price for Priority mailing using a USPS Priority Tyvek envelope, for something that weighed about 2 lbs. Also, the little credit card machine on the counter said about $34, which is what I thought she said. So I packed it instead in my own envelope and paid about $9.50. Then she said you chose the higher price because priority would have cost less. I was like "What? You said it would cost much more." She said that she never said that. I said "you didn't tell me that this amount shown on the credit card box was wrong", and she didn't say anything. Then she said "I won't take disrespect." I tried to think what if anything I had said that was disrespectful. I guess the clerk is always right in her mind, and customers should never let them know otherwise. I said, "I guess in the future I'll have to get your quote in writing." She harangued me on how I'd be paying more for slower service, but I had already addressed my envelope, which cost about $2-3. So I used up my own padded envelope, and paid more for slower service. Then she got real polite maybe because she was trying to cover that she had misquoted the amount to me earlier, causing me to overpay. Part of this problem is common to other post offices: those credit card machines always show the highest price on a very small screen, and you have to beg the clerk to scroll down to see the lowest price. They are deceptive, and the post office should get larger screens that show all the prices, or else not use them at all. I felt the clerk might have been dishonest, and definitely was confrontational and hostile. It's not the first time that clerks at this office have been dishonest, although that was a few years ago, and was probably different people. If you have a car, I'd go to the 41st post office, or somewhere else. I'd give this place negative stars if I could. I'd only go here for things that are very simple, like dropping off a letter or buying stamps, but nothing with multiple price choices, because they may not be giving consistent, correct, or clear price information. read more

Its a battlefield whenever going to this post office. It is scary! When I walked in, I tried to get ready for my encounter with the clerk, therefore, I was trying to look at package before I get up to the counter. Well, this Black chick called me all kinds of b_____s and continuously threaten to assault me. When Soon came to the counter, I asked for security, in which she responded uncaringly. Finally, she told me to after I was completed with my packaging to come back to the counter. Well, she continually bullied me until finally, I asked for her name. She covered her badge, refuse to give it and then went back and got Kenneth to eject me from the post office saying I was causing too much trouble because I was trying to make comparisons and decide whether to send it or return in person. Neither Brenda or Kenneth would give her name, however a customer says it looks like her name is Soon. She even covered her badge upon request. She was very demeaning, mean and rude! I can't believe someone would be this way when they are paid to do a job!? She said something to me that I couldn't hear because she said it all while an employee in the back was pushing a blue big cart with its wheel rattling and she demanded, "I said it three times!" This encounter left me upset all afternoon and evening! A supervisor at the post office says this has to be recorded and put in her file. I am glad that I am finally lead to the right place. Everytime, this post office is hostile! It would be a good idea to get rid of the USPS with these kinds of employees. I wouldn't want to work for the USPS! One would have to be gang like and very tough and dirty and mean to survive. read more

I teared in this post office the other day because basic human kindness is so hard to come by in oakland so often because when I got to the window to mail a xmas package to the east coast at the last possible minute I discovered I had left my wallet at home and would have to come back tomorrow, thereby forfeiting the opportunity to get the package to it's destination on time. I sighed and was about to turn away when the SUPER WONDERFUL KIND TRUSTING woman working there offered to pay for it out of her own pocket and let me know I could come back on monday to pay her back.
