Most of the workers suck there. I went to try to find my package there and they lied and said it's not there when it should be as a slip and delivery was attempted. I went again next day to demand to talk to supervisor as the clerks are so rude and lazy. I waited for at least an hour until I see this guy named Chris and I asked if he's the supervisor and he said no and I asked him if he can help me find my package in the back and he said he will try and he did find it! Thanks to Chris. He's a great employee and worked so fast. He also found someone else's packages that was in the back too and the ladies turned her away saying the same that they couldn't find hers. The rest of the clerks there need customer service training as they are so rude/dismissive and need to not be lazy looking for packages. This is the former Main Post Office at 13th St & Jackson in Oakland's Civic Center area. This historic landmark was built in the 1930's, and projects an image of strength and stability. Well, that's all really nice. But as a post office, it lacks an ability to properly serve the public. I was there yesterday at 530pm to drop off a USPS Priority Mail package. I discovered that there's no after-hours mail drop inside the building. The mail slot is blocked with plywood. I asked a clerk who was working inside, and she said I have to drop it in an outside mailbox. I'm guessing it's because they're afraid of mail theft. So why do you put a mailbox outside? They get real pissy when you ask anything and about half the time I've come here the person gets frustrated and passes me to another teller. They aren't knowledgeable, nice, or helpful. They complain constantly and talk shit about their customers as soon as they're out of earshot lol Tried to upsell me on priority shipping and have done the same to coworkers of mine. The one man working there is a whiney bitch about helping people, lazy, and dumb as a bag of rocks. Had two tellers tell me they don't make copies after having a copy made for a passport a few weeks back, 3rd teller managed to do it somehow. Go figure. The building is pretty at least! read more

It's unfortunate this wonderful building is surrounded by trash and homeless folk. Who knows what you're stopping on while waking up the stairs, and I had to walk around homeless hanging out on the steps on the way out at the other end. They recently replaced , cleaned or upgraded windows I think. Walking up the stairs into the main grand hall was nice. It's quite a sight to enter on one side and look down a long hall basically to the end of the block. But alas, all I wanted to do was mail some letters and the only one mail slot in the entire area was blocked with plywood. It's a shame. He had an AirPod in one ear as I'm trying to get directions and he's telling me he can't hear me (I wonder why!) and after I ask for clarification, he gets even more angry and irate. So we just moved into our new apt near E 15th st and 13th Ave. There is a security screen to get in and mailboxes all have individual locks. So the first week passed and I have been expecting important mail from the VA. I figured since we just moved in maybe take some time for address change to take effect but when I went into the USPS app and signed up for IMFORMED DELIVERY which shows pictures of my mail that had supposedly been delivered I immediately went to this post office. The lady working by herself with a line out the door tells me "there's nothing she could do" I asked for supervisor. Was directed to a door around the corner where I met a rude woman supposedly a supervisor tells me to continue to wait. I showed her the photos of my missing mail she insures me that no mail is being held there that my mail carrier delivers daily. I knew I'd be back. 2 days later I see a piece of mail that was supposedly dropped into our slot that contained my new debit card because the other one got lost in the move. Remind you this is our main source of income directly deposited into my acct. I got back to this post office and was told by angry young man listening to music in one ear tell me to continue to wait. I don't think they really give a shit because my 3rd visit within 2 weeks I brought a plastic luckys bag full of undelivered mail I found across the street in a big pile of garbage put it on the counter. I told them this isn't all the mail I found this is just what would fit in the bag. They had no explanation. So that day I waited outside my building for 6 hrs and guess what. Not a single piece of mail was delivered to our building which has 6 units in it. I take this very insulting to see my mail on informed mail but it never arrived. It seems to me that the people working for this post office don't really care about their customers or their mail. Today is July 29th. My debit card still has not turned up. Even ordered on for priority mail shipment and that one never made it to me. We have been borrowing money just to eat. Our rent is past due as well as a storage bill and my ph has been turned off. We are in such a bad way all because of postal service. Since moving in I've received 1 piece of mail. Some days the guy doesn't even come to our building. This is by far the worst post office experience I've ever had in my 55 years of life. I know that on Tuesdays the Luckys and Safeway ads go out. In 4 weeks I've still not received a single shopping ad. Seems like anyone can work for the post office these days. Whoever is in charge at this post office should be audited and fired. There's no way that with 6 apps no mail is delivered 4 out of the 6 days it should be. Where the he'll is all my missing mail. And to those folks who's mail I turned in I hope you finally got it. It's not my job to go looking in piles of garbage just to find undelivered mail. Someone needs to be held accountable for this. If not fire all of them and get some people with integrity to work there. Growing up being a postal carrier was a hard job to get. Seems like it's just the opposite now. If I could I would go this place a negative ranking of -5 stars. They don't care about my mail and what it contains but the whole building not getting mail 4 days of every week. It's a beautiful building, but the lines can be a bit long. Otherwise the folks in the windows are knowledgeable and helpful. Had issues with a mail hold order and they got me all my mail super quickly! The two USPS workers were very friendly and helpful.

Try and avoid this post office location if you can. Go to literally any other post office! I've been here multiple times and there's always a line and waiting takes at least an hour. They are understaffed and the workers that are there are slow and rude. In my encounter with this post office location - we had a package that they tried to deliver but we missed them by 5 minutes. They left a notice that they were able to "redeliver", so we chose a date but our package was never redelivered. We called the number provided and were told that they never tried to redeliver our package and that the package was at this USPS location. We waited over an hour in line when there was only 6 people in line, to finally get our package. I honestly don't even know how this location is the main post office in the area, with this pace and management. I usually am a pretty patient person but this location really just pushes my buttons. I was on the phone with my partner while he was attempting to change his addresss since his online attempts aren't working (he had me on hold while he talked to the clerk). The clerk was so rude and short with him and told him she couldnt help him with that and to do it online. He advised that he has tried a few times and gets advised that it wasn;t processed although the system has charged his card for the request. She didn't respond and called for the next customer. He walked out and left and now he is left with his mail going to an address he no longer lives at and no direction on his next steps. I don't understand how this location is still standing. It's not considered a main post office yet it occupies a huge piece of real estate--practically the whole block. It has the historical appearance and everything in it is exactly that- historic. There is street parking available that's decorated with broken glass along with a friendly hobo sitting a top the steps as you enter. Don't get me started with trying to send a package. For some reason, it's just very complicated to speed up transactions. Each time I've gone, there's always a line of at least 10 people. And it's not like a Costco line, where efficiency is priority. This is my local post office, and the people who work here are incredibly inept, lazy, and make it extremely clear they don't care about you. At all. My mail carrier has an issue with delivering mail to the wrong mailboxes in my apartment building, and leaving our mailboxes wide open when she's done. I once had a package go missing, and when I went to the post office and spoke with the window clerk, showing her that the tracking said "delivered" but that I didn't have the package, she dug up my mail carrier from the back, who came to the window incredibly incensed and insisting she delivered it. Oh she delivered it alright -- to the wrong mailbox, which became apparent a couple days later. I'm lucky my neighbor was an honest person and left it in the mailroom for me, otherwise I would've been out of luck. Last night this post office inexplicably delivered a package that was sent to me to the wrong zip code in a different part of Oakland. I have no idea how, given that the shipper used a pre-paid shipping label that they printed out, with my correct shipping address on the label. And I have no idea what address they delivered it to. Also not sure how someone could be delivering mail on a totally different street, in a different zip code, and not notice that the package they're holding isn't addressed to anywhere in the area. Like, what did they do, just decide to leave it in someone else's mailbox because they couldn't be bothered to take it back to the post office? After being sent to Window 12 to speak with a supervisor and waiting almost an hour in line, the clerk was completely confused about my situation -- which I explained very simply and clearly -- and brought the supervisor to the window, whose first words when she saw me were, "How could the package have been delivered to the wrong address unless it was written wrong?" I told her that the seller used a pre-paid, printed shipping label and there was no way it could've been wrong, and that I can see in the shipper's app that she shipped it to the correct address, to which I was met with crickets and then the supervisor mumbling, "Well, then I don't know," while lumbering away and saying something inaudible. The cherry on top was the clerk writing down the URL to go to to file a claim for the now-missing package, and finding out when I got home that she wrote down a link that doesn't even exist, and that I also can't file a claim for the package because the shipper didn't insure it. So now I'm on hold with USPS, which is expected to be over an hour wait, because someone at this post office directed my package to go to the wrong zip code, a carrier carelessly stuffed it into a mailbox in a completely different part of the city, and a window clerk somehow doesn't know that you can't file claims for uninsured packages. And it's looking like I'll probably be out the cost of the item, if the person on the phone is as uncaring as the people in the post office. Outrageous. read more

Yet again, my package is not delivered to me. There was not even an initial delivery. I was even home all day on the day of the delivery. So frustrating. Then whoever "tried" to delivery my package brought it back to a post office location, to then say "available to pickup." I never even knew about the pickup, until I check online. I was never notified about this directly. And then, I tried to request a redelivery. No response has been found for the redelivery request. So last attempt that I only know to do is to file ''missing package' report. And I also called customer service today about my package's location, just in case they can help me either start another redelivery and/or help me locate my package. I finally got a customer service person tell me to it's "available for pickup". I'm like, omg who ever is at this usps location never attempt for redelivery. Still frustrating. So I ask the customer service person, where is the pick up location at. They told me it's at 210 13th st Oakland, CA 94613. So I'm like, that's perfect, it's close by. So I tried to pick it up today before it closes. When I get to the post office, the person working in front can not find the package. She said, oh you filed a missing report already. And I'm like, the customer service person just told me it's available for pickup at your location. I don't think she even attempt to "physically" find my package, and just use the computer to see what was the last thing filed about the package, (which was filing a missing report about it). She didn't even listen that the customer service person just told me on the phone today that it's at this USPS location available for pickup. I was already tired, so I just walked away and passively took her piece of paper with instructions to file a claim. I don't really want to do that, I just want my package, and it seems obvious where it is still located. I'm never gonna get my package. Why can't you do better USPS!!!! This building has the shortest wait times around. I have found the clerks to be very knowledgeable and helpful, answering questions that really aren't part of their job. Saddens me that other reviewers don't understand that the conditions of people and the environment around the building are a societal systemic issue and not the "fault" of individuals. read more

Definitely do not recommend this place for passport appointments. My appointment was at 1:30, I came at 1 but realized I forgot my birth certificate and asked if I could reschedule in case I wasn't back in time, i was told no. The next available appointment wasn't until over a month away, so I ran home to get it. By the time I was back, 1:31, the person who was supposed to process my appointment went to lunch at exactly 1:30 and I was asked to wait. I don't understand if I'm asked to wait til she comes back then why couldn't we reschedule when I asked? Poor customer service. I love this post office. To me it represents an era when there was a lot of architectural work that went into civic buildings. It's handsome with marble floors and nineteen forties art deco lights hang from the ceiling in the long empty hall. It smells like my old elementary school. In summary, it is GRAND. The service is fine. There are some staffers who speak fluent Mandarin, and the package pick-up guy is the same every day and has been for years. I stood in line for at least 30mins although there were only about 10 people ahead of me and two functional windows open... I also noticed that a young guy came in and grabbed an arm full of shipping supplies (including the pre-paid postal boxes) and walked back out without paying... he looked back to see if either of the employees were looking... and of course they weren't paying any attention so he walked off with at least $100+ worth of supplies. Do not have your packages sent here. The woman who works at the parcel window is abysmally slow and makes no apologies about it. Last time I was here, I waited 20 minutes in line and there were only 2 people in front of me. When I got to the window I waited while she, turtle like , went to find the package. When she finally came back, she realized that her hand-held meter had died. I then waited another ten minutes while she found another. Today, I arrived at about 4:15. At 4:30, she was still serving the guy that was five people in front of me and the window closes at 5. The service is horrible and there is no one else there to complain to.
