I have sent priority mail abroad and received it abroad. Shocking to see such a lack of knowledge and incorrect information being shared. Eventually, I gave up and used the self kiosk station. I love love love the USPS, and it was so disheartening and frustrating to see this service and incorrect knowledge applied. Please, please, address staff training at this location.

Most of my experiences in Post Offices involve huge lines and dawdling employees. The folks here seem to actually want to get through the line quickly. Whenever I come to ship something out they're helpful, friendly, and if treated with respect give it back in return. (Though I'd imagine they wouldn't hesitate to put the smack down if you step up. This is East Cambridge after all) The hours are a bit wonky but they open early enough (7:30) that I have plenty of time to stop in before work to pick up packages/stamps/whatever. In this neighborhood I think USPS is the best shipping option. Apparently in a past life East Cambridge was a bit shady so UPS/FEDEX refuse to leave packages at the door. This means a trip out to Somerville ($45 cab ride) or several days in rerouting (UPS sends it through Rhode Island, natch) to get your package. But the Post Office will hold it for you in the convenient office. Works for me! Sadly it seems like the Postal Service is slowly dying. I know many people could care less but it's a part of our history and really, you get a lot for your 42 cents. Until such time they will get my business.

Some people left the line because they became impatient. When I asked her what the cheapest shipping option was, she said "I don't know". I asked if she knew when the package would arrive, and once again, she said "we don't know anything about overseas packages". Surely, after paying so much for shipping, there would be tracking included. There is a UPS store a 10 min walk away. You might want to consider going there, or going to a different USPS location.

My item was going to be shipped in a medium size priority mail box, and I grabbed a package of bubble wrap as well. Pat came over and asked if my item was over 2 or 3 pounds. I wasn't sure so he weighed it, and said it would be cheaper to use a box that wasn't flat rate. He also said he had packing materials another customer left if I didn't mind using those. (The materials were in brand new condition). He didn't charge me for the box, and with the money I saved on the bubble wrap and the shipping, it was about $8 less! Dang. However, the reason I went here was to purchase some shipping supplies, tape, bubble wrap, and in particular a shipping box. I needed a box approximately 24-25" L x 26" W x 18" tall. The price for this box? $26.00. When I questioned this, the manager said, that, yea, UPS prices for boxes were very high. I purchased the other items, but I bought the same box at a U-Haul store for $7.95. Why does UPS have their stores price-gouging people on the price of cardboard boxes? I have no idea.
