Sometimes, we don't know when we'll be needing a post office when not in our usual stomping grounds. Looking for one on the phone pulled up several in adjacent neighborhoods, so why not go to one in Calabasas, a very nice, wooded, and hilly neighborhood at Los Angeles's far western edge? I see that there's a spread in the reviews for the USPS in Calabasas, CA. We've all had some outlier experiences with post offices we regularly use. Some post offices are almost always marginal, but that's rare and can sometimes coincide with their area in general. I almost hate to say that. The Calabasas post office is in a strip mall. It shares parking with other merchants in this strip mall, but a parking space is likely to be found. I needed to send a small box using the USPS priority mail product. Their free boxes you obtain for this service are well designed - in how sturdy they are, in how easy they are to assemble, and even in how easy it is to remove the protective adhesive so that the box will seal. The price for this was just about $10. The gentleman at the counter was helpful and polite. He even added some extra tape at my request, even though the box probably would not have come undone. But why chance it? We made some small talk, given how uncrowded it was at the time, and we commented on how the SFV and the West Side of L.A. have changed over the years. I was told the parcel would arrive in 2 days. It got to its destination the following day! I'm giving this post office 4 stars because it's a small post office. However, it's clean and seems to function well. Now, let me add some pedantic fodder to this review. First, more so than any other section of the city of Los Angeles, SFV suburbs tend to use the name of the suburb (Northridge, Van Nuys, Sylmar, Studio City, etc.) on the mailing address, whereas West Side suburbs like Brentwood, Ladera Heights, and Miracle Mile use Los Angeles on the mailing address. However, if you were to send something to a SFV suburb and address it to Los Angeles - followed by the correct zip code - I'm pretty sure it would get there. Then, the word "calabazas," from which Calabasas was probably derived, means pumpkins in Spanish. read more

It is a small Post Office and a busy one too. But the 2 postal personnel are efficient and fast. The line goes fast. People are in and out. Small parking and busy. Entrance is at Park Sorrento and exit is at Park Granada. Street parking is available too sometimes. read more

It's hard to measure what's worse here - the level of incompetence or the entitlement of the employees. I've had a box there for four years had so much of other people's mail in my box so God knows what other people got of mine and when you bring it to the window to tell them, there's no apology acknowledgment of mistake. I have never hated a place more and they have the worst hours and their doors locked all the time even when it's supposed to be open. read more

This is my favorite post office because of Cindy and Rene'. They greet you each visit with warmth and caring. They know the best way to send your mail or package at a good price. I love coming to this post office because of these two wonderful employees! They always remember me, even if it's been a while! It's like Cheers, but a post office. I am absolutely not happy with their service, They ruined my boxes and its all broken and they charged me over 100$ for each box to ship. They even don't pick up the phone in the office. Yelp 100 Challenge 63 In case you're looking for this post office, it's located in an outdoor shopping strip which also contains a few stores and a couple of restaurants. The post office is on the south corner of the strip. I was at the door with two people ahead of me when post office opened. A very friendly female clerk unlocked the door and welcomed us inside. Once in, it was minutes before it was my turn. I noticed the other clerk was also chatting with the current customer. How nice, I thought, to have two windows open, friendly clerks and quick service. I love this post office. Reminds me of what an old country store might have been like. Employees are friendly, very good at what they do- very helpful. Yes, parking is limited at certain times of the day when the other businesses open. So get there early. It's worth it. Is there a Trader Joe's in this shopping center? No, really...I don't know how you design a strip mall with parking this bad, and not just add a Trader Joe's to the mix? Okay, generally after a short wait I can find a place to park, but I've gotta tell you, not only is this a great place to drop off outgoing mail, but if you're looking to be interviewed by an insurance adjuster as a witness to an accident, this is the place for you! - Happened to me... The post office itself is great though. There's no vending machine here for stamps or the automated machines that weigh and print postage for you. Rather, there are usually at least 2 people working the three counters and the line is rarely more than 3 people deep, so the wait shouldn't be too bad. Often I go and there is no line. I go pretty often and haven't seen the poor level of service or grumpy workers that other reviews complain about. I usually go there to drop off prepaid packages, but from time to time I have questions or need service at the counter...The experience is always far more positive that even I would expect at a post office. read more

The lady at the counter received me with greetings and smile. I was mailing a bunch of books (free of charge) to a friend in Charlottesville in Virginia to read. She helped me put my package inside a priority mail box which helped me with shipping costs. This was very very kind of her. read more

This location is very small. Parking can be very bad during prime hours. The employees are hit and miss when it comes to being friendly. I mailed a package at the Calabasas branch of the post office. I didn't wait in line and make sure that they started tracking it is. It already had a pre-paid label so I just left it in the shipping bin. My mistake. On Tuesday, they have still not started tracking my package. I went back to the post office yesterday. They couldn't find my package. The gentleman said that since I was shipping it out first class mail, that was very slow mail. They have 6 to 8 days to deliver my package to El Monte, California. If they fail to scan this package in before delivery, I may never have proof that it was returned to the seller on Ebay. I may have lost my $400 refund. read more

This is my 2nd time in a row having a problem with CINDY, a Calabasas, Ca. (4774 Park Granada) postal employee. Today I spent 10 min. standing in line while she talked on the phone (she was the ONLY employee there!) After she hung up, the rest of the time I stood in line, including while she was helping me, she continued to  converse w/ a man in line who she appeared to know. I had 2 small envelopes. I asked to ring up each one separately as I am running a business and needed separate receipts. She REFUSED to do so. The previous time I dealt w/ her (a couple wks. ago) she spent the entire time interjecting herself into the other postal employees transaction (they never asked for her help) while I just stood there! I asked her to do my postage through metered mail rather than a stamp as I needed the information on the receipt where the item was being sent to and she refused, saying she was too busy! This post office was one of the worst post offices to do business with. No one in the company can agree with what their policy is on company checks. If you run a buisness and need to get anything from a post office I would not do it here.
