Not only the worst service in the post office, the worst delivery service. Their carriers regularly can't be bothered to ring my bell when a package needs to be signed for and when I schedule a redelivery, they simply never redeliver. Good luck calling them or the national line. read more

The reviews are accurate; this is most certainly one of the worst post offices in NY--maybe even the entire eastern seaboard. This has been my post office for the last 8 years and every time I have to drop something off, pick something up, or inquire about a missing package, a little piece of me dies inside. That being said, the post office that I have grown to hate over the years surprised me today. There were three(!) people working in the windows instead of the usual solo-manned station. There was another employee (a 300% increase in previous staffing) helping people in the line and organizing various needs. Now, for my particular inquiry this afternoon, did USPS meet their priority mail express guaranteed delivery date? Of course not (several days late). Could they have delivered the package to my apartment but for some reason noted that they were "unable to access entry" of the apartment building which they deliver mail to on a daily basis? Sure did. However, today the man at the window was patient, took my name, address, number, tracking info, and told me he would get his supervisor to make sure the package was delivered by the end of the day. WHICH ACTUALLY HAPPENED. 7:56pm. 2-stars isn't much, but I'm cautiously optimistic that this place is on the up-and-up. read more

More than ten years with this disaster.. The only PO I have experienced that was worse is the one on South 4th street. You can sit around all day on your stoop waiting for a package delivered and then get a text message saying hey attempted to deliver and had no access. What they need to do is attempt to fix their abysmal service. But lets face it there is absolutely no incentive to work harder or better when you have a government job for life.. If you can avoid it, do so. I have lived in this area for almost 10 years and this place had a glimpse of hope some time in 2010 or so. They actually had a decent manager then. Some of the employees have been here for many years and you would think they'd be pretty fast with using the computer system, but no. Service is rude. I am kind of against giving bad Yelp reviews but something happened last time I went here. I was on the line waiting. There was an old lady as a customer and she only spoke Polish. The employee kept on telling her "Listen, I don't understand you, you have to come again with someone who can translate." Well, the customer didn't understand this and the employee got more frustrated. She saw me on the line and sort of pointed at me with her finger and yelled "Hey you! You are Polish right, can you speak to her?" I'm not Polish. This happens to me a lot in this neighborhood as I am fair skinned and from another European country. But this time I got pissed because it was sort of rude and little racist to yell at a customer in that manner. She could have just asked me, hey excuse me, do you speak Polish? Rather than what she did. Another thing I would really like to complain here, is the side tables. There's trash everywhere and there is no pens. You get lucky if they have the forms you have to fill out. This place is also way under staffed. In addition to these employees being slow. read more

Pretty much always a bad time. On one particular occasion I had to wait 35 minutes to pick up a package after I had already handed in my pink slip, because they had forgotten about me. WORST POST OFFICE IN NY!!! Anytime I am not home to receive a package and have to file a redelivery request, my package is NEVER REDELIVERED. Worse still, I cannot get through on the phones due to a PERPETUAL BUSY SIGNAL! I got through this morning for the first time in a week (after attempting nearly every day) at 8:40AM and was told that if I wanted to talk to someone about redelivery I had to call back at 9am... so I did. And it was a busy signal again. The staff is unfriendly and they are clearly incompetent. BEWARE! At all costs, avoid this post office.. I have had several absolutely HORRIFIC experiences at this place that make me die a little bit inside each time. This wretched, dank little place is run very poorly. The staff move in extreme slow-mo and I'm willing to bet that they never graduated 3rd grade. Once I was standing in line for 45 minutes (literally) and watching one of them tape up a box, which took her about nine minutes because of her long, fake, pink plastic fingernails. I want to scream every time I go in here, and I have actually asked for the manager twice. I had been waiting for an order of books I had placed a couple days prior - one a non-fictional account of the discovery of "Vinland" by the great explorer Leif Ericson, which by all accounts is supposed to be a terrific read. It is a new translation of Leif's original diary of the voyage, so it is claimed. Really looking forward to this one. The second is a scholar's take on the rise and fall of Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, or Dracula to me and you! Out of 57 online reviews this one is currently standing at 4.5 out of 5 stars! Naturally, I was really excited about this one too. Well, I thought to myself "Dabney, these books should have arrived by now", so I looked them up and tracked them online. It was displayed to me that the delivery was attempted by this outfit (The USPS, that is) and that a notice was left at my place of work. I should make it clear that this delivery was attempted on a Sunday. I close my business every Sunday as I have been doing since it's inception in the late 1980's. This is partially so that my employees can take time for worship if they choose, or go to a sports outing with their families. I like to catch up with friends over a Haig & Haig Dimple Pinch at the Viper Bar myself. Anyhoo, I went to the Postal branch, to retrieve my two books and stood in the line like one is supposed to, and presented my printed slip (thank god Florence my secretary hadn't left yet because I still don't know how to use that printer, LOL) when I finally reached the plexiglass. The poor woman on the other side looked at it and was quite perplexed. I calmed her down and explained the situation. She was not interested in what was in the package however. She then asked me to input my information into the small machine (computer?) behind me and I smiled and said "I can't possibly operate one of those, LOL!" She then consulted with one of her business colleagues and after a bit of back and forth decided that my books were not in this particular outlet, but in another in a different part of town. I said "that makes total sense, since my place of business is in Hauppauge, Lone Island!" She gave me a little wink and I smiled at her and adjusted my glasses. I then leaned into the speaker on the plexiglass and asked her if she has ever been read to before. She blushed and smiled and said "have a good day sir". I sighed and went on my way. The Greenpoint Post Office is the best place to go if you want to have a stroke. It's so exasperating that even the most patient, mild mannered person will want to jump through the plexiglass and strangle every single employee. I have found an alternative and am willing to divulge it even though it may cost me....there is a satellite post office on Nassau Avenue at Leanord St. It is located inside a Polish pharmacy. They offer all the same services as the US PO. There is only one person working there and I'm sure the volume of business that one person handles is 10X that of the USPO. Go there, but don't tell too many others. Let it be our secret. read more

My most astonishingly negative experience with this place occurred without even setting foot in the place as they closed up the office a full 25 minutes before the standard, posted closing time. Workers are pleasant and nice....when you get to them.Slowest line I have ever stood on, and it's like this every time I visit. Went today to buy some plain stamps. After waiting a little over 30 minutes, I was shown 2 types of stamp sheets- either one with a large face or one with Spanish celebratory words. I just needed plain and simple ones to send out wedding thank you cards. I asked how much a roll would be and was told it was $49. When I asked to purchase that, she told me they didn't have... why tell me the cost if you know it's not even in stock? Ended up going to a stationary store where I got a couple without having to wait on a line. I do dread going every time I have to. read more

I'm OK with the post office, even though it's dingy and understaffed. My issue is with one postal service worker in particular. Advice for her: -- If there is a huge long line behind me, don't waste my time and everyone else's giving me a 20 minute lecture on how to properly pack my parcels. -- Claim that I should NOT use labels, that I need to write directly on the box,, even though my label is clearly VERY well secured with clear, postal-approved packing tape. Also, WTF -- the post office doesn't use labels? -- Insist on repacking my international shipment into a smaller box when I have told you that is the smallest box that would work. Then proceed to bully me into opening it, and repacking it with NO bubble wrap or peanuts. She actually wanted to CUT DOWN the packages of some collectibles that I was selling. Excuse me? Someone paid for this as is, and expects it to be shipped without being crushed. -- Spend another 10 minutes trying to scrape off logo labels on a re-purposed box. I know for a fact you can just marker it out. Again, this is with a line of people behind me. I have never been harassed like this at any other post office (my preferred P.O. is on 3rd avenue). I sell on eBay so I'm making multiple trips over the course of a week. At least the automated machines are there for small domestics. Next time I'm in line and the "next clerk" is her, I think I'll let the person behind me go through and wait for the other clerks. read more

Definitely one of the WORST post offices I've ever dealt with. In 5+ years at my current apartment, I have had an alarming number of shipments that tracking shows as being "delivered" but never actually arrive. I have learned to avoid having things shipped to me via USPS whenever possible, but on the rare occasions that I do, the number of lost packages have gone "missing" is almost unbelievable. Of COURSE when I call the local office they are completely unhelpful - I don't know why I even bother. Their response typically amounts to "Nope, don't see it here." For the record, I live in a small, very secure building and have NEVER had a missing package from any other delivery service - I frequently receive UPS, Fedex, etc. without any problems. Not sure what's going on with this branch or their delivery people, but it's definitely not right. read more

Seriously, this is really the perfect place for those with masochistic tendencies and can withstand profound levels of frustration, panic and dysfunction. As US post offices face record deficits, a bleeding image problem and become the punchline for comedians all over America, one might want to take a camera one day to this Greenpoint location as exhibit A for all this funny business. Special note to watch out for the Asian woman at booth #5: She will not help you with anything. She knows NOTHING! Honestly, most of the bad experiences I have when I'm here are having to be surrounded by whiny, impatient, and bratty (yes you can be over 40 and a brat) customers yelling at the employees or sighing dramatically or throwing a fit that they can't cut the line after having to step to the side to fill out paperwork THEY forgot to fill out. You really need to chill out - high blood pressure is a killer. Obviously post offices aren't my #1 fav place in the world - but this place really is not that bad, and I always get a you're welcome / have a nice day from whoever is helping me, so perhaps don't be totally rude and you'll get the same returned? read more

I would give them a 0 if I could. I called to see where my parcel is that I shipped to myself from an international location. It's clearly missing, because I sent two at once, of which one was delivered on Tuesday, and I'm still waiting for the other one by Friday. He said they employ absolutely no system to track their own shipments, have no idea where my box is, where it could be, or when it would get delivered. And just to get this useless information was so frustratingly difficult because he kept on cutting me off and not letting me finish my sentences! Stay away from Greenpoint Post Office It's quicker to just bite the bullet and go to another post office rather than spending the time it will take to get anything done at the Greenpoint branch. If you absolutely have to go there, though, avoid the woman with the name tag reading Mickey. I know it's not ordinarily nice to mention people by name, but this Mickey woman was hostile from the minute she clapped eyes on me. when I presented some money orders sent to me by my dad to this Mickey woman and asked her politely to please cash them, she first told me they were counterfeit, which I knew was untrue, then refused to return them to me, even after the lady at the post office they were drawn on called to confirm they were good. She knew they weren't counterfeit but wouldn't return or cash them. When I wouldn't leave her window, she threatened me, a small, not scary-looking girl at all, with the police. If she had called them, I know now that the thing to say would have been that she was refusing to return my property or to give me the cash, but it was very intimidating at the time. I had to wait an hour for her supervisor, after which Mickey became all fake nicey-nice and started calling me honey over and over. It's like she has contempt for humanity! I called the 800 number to complain and am also trying to get in touch with our Congress-person, because that's what they're here for, to keep us all from being buffeted around by crappy governmental organizations. What's sad is that if the supervisor cared at all, this wouldn't be happening, and also that at least one of the other clerks is very nice, but her niceness gets lost in all the negativity and incompetence. Also, they've probably had it very easy for a long time because Greenpoint has traditionally many residents for whom English is not their first language--it's a perfect setup for bullying and trying to intimidate folks who may have a harder time fighting back or knowing the avenues to complain. Try either the mailing station at the pharmacy, or the Williamsburg Post Office, or find one in another neighborhood you spend time in. And if Greenpoint is mean to you, complain complain complain! It's hard to get these people seriously reprimanded or dismissed, but it's not impossible. Believe me, either tactic is worth the effort! read more

The lines are huge because they never operate all of the windows, and they won't answer any questions unless you wait in line. The post office in Greenpoint is one of the worst post offices ever! I moved on March 1st, and I put in an order for mail-forwarding the week before. They didn't even START forwarding my mail until JULY!!!!!!! And when you go there in person, they talk to you like you're 5 years old. I've worked in customer service, and I understand that some customers ACT like they're 5 years old, but still-you have to be polite. Avoid this place if you can, but of course, if you live in Greenpoint, that's almost impossible. read more

This place has been pissing me off for 15 years. Today is December 12. I need stamps for my holiday cards. This morning I waited patiently in line for 20 minutes. There was only one person working the windows. Just as my turn came up, they opened another one. I walked up and made my simple request, "I need holiday stamps, please." The employee said, "Oh, we don't have them right now." I paused to process this information. My head was about to explode. "You don't have any holiday stamps?" "No, the guy gets here at 11. We'll have Santa stamps and--hold on." She went to the other window, got some stamps, brought them back and showed me a Jesus's star stamp. "And this one. But not till 11." It's December and they won't have holiday stamps available to sell until 11 AM?! Basically, once again a visit to this post office has given me another example of why the USPS is losing so much money every year. read more

I'm a wedding photographer and it's very important to me that my clients receive their images in a timely manner. This post office lost 2/4 of my packages, which contain polaroids that cannot be recreated. DO NOT GO HERE. They will lose your packages.
