In an effort to support small, local businesses, I've been going to The Mailroom Store for almost 10 years-- despite the fact that the woman who works there is always nasty, slow, and an inept imbecile. The last time I went, I bounced in with a big, friendly smile. (This woman is miserable, bitter and sadistic, so I never let her negative energy bother me and I always try to remain positive.) She quoted $25. to ship a small package to LI (I wouldn't be surprised if it was twice as much as what the post office charges) and USPS picked up the package while I was there. After USPS left with the package, she randomly added an additional $29 to the total (Now $54 instead of $25) I questioned the price and she said it was for the box and bubble wrap. It was a FREE!! USPS Priority box and a few small slices of *flattened, already used, dusty* bubble wrap, which is obvs not $29... I asked to see a price list (which she refused to provide after asking her several times). She then called USPS dispatch and asked the driver to return to the store to recall the package. I never said I wanted the package returned or that I wouldn't pay. I simply questioned the added $29. price and repeatedly asked to see the price list then she wouldn't allow me to pay. (My guess is that she's embezzling the $!!) I told her that messing with USPS is a Federal offense. She used fowl language toward me, so I yelled at her and demanded to pay (because I needed the receipt with tracking number.) She then had the audacity to call the police!!! I was pleasant and gracious until she attempted to overcharge me, break Federal law, and file a frivolous police report. (Later, I discovered that she also filled out the shipping label incorrectly, so I'm lucky the package finally found its destination.) Steer clear of this hellhole. This miserable moron needs to be fired and kept away from human contact at all costs. read more

I almost didn't patron this location because of the disparaging reviews, but I was desperate and it is conveniently close to my neck of the hood. I called and the voice on the other end was courteous (rushed I could hear people walking up and asking her questions as we were speaking). So the lady at the font desk was soft spoken but she was audible. She was very business like and matter of fact straight to point, but I'm cool with that...if I was looking for warm fuzzy I would have ran through Ft. Greene park and picked flowers, I was in need of fast efficient notary services for a legal document and that's exactly what I got. I was in and out in two shakes of a hipsters dogs tail. This a nice quaint little convenient neighborhood stop-in for your quick copy, printing, and shipping needs. It's a bit hidden as the awning says something about dry cleaning. The staff, or the woman who helped me was very friendly and provided great service. I stumbled upon this place after leaving a local restaurant/bar and had actually googled another shipping place a few blocks further that was next to Gates Ave bus stop. While walking in the direction and came to this one first assuming that the map was improperly labeled. Nevertheless, once I inside, I was greeted and quickly given a time use and print cost rundown. I came in to simply print two copies of a document from my email. For the time and two copies, my total was pretty cheap, probably a little less than a fedex/kinkos. The girl who works behind the counter is not friendly at all. I think she's Caribbean of some sort, based on the accent. No greeting, no smiles, no warm tone, nothing. Maybe she hates her job. Maybe she hates her life. Either way, she might be the reason I don't come back, unless it's my last resort. I was actually considering renting a mailbox but I don't want her bad energy messing with my packages. The place itself is pretty efficient, so if you need to get stuff done, by all means, head here. The Mailroom Store is a place where you can go for basic printing and mailing services. I needed to print and copy a few documents for some urgent business. The notary was not in that day, which was alright. The store was able to provide me with the other services that I needed. Unfortunately, despite all of that, the customer service was atrocious. It seemed like the lady who sat behind the desk had absolutely zero interest in being there. When she spoke, it was barely above a whisper. In order to make any copies, she had to (begrudgingly) come out from behind the desk, take all of my sensitive documents, have me tell her what I wanted printed (and how many) and then stand there while she operated the machine. It's not that I'm not capable of working a copy machine, its just that I simply wasn't allowed to use it. After that, when I went to pay, I pulled out my card and was told that there's a $10 minimum. For a print shop. I'm sorry, but we live in an era where it's terrible customer service to have minimums on cards. So then I had to leave my sensitive documents on the counter, walk across the street to an ATM, and then pay. Whoever owns/manages this store would find a lot more success if they rethought their staffing/policy decisions. I certainly won't be coming back. It's just not worth the headache. read more

Beware: thieves! Avoid! They charged me $23.95 for a Priority Mail Express letter, but put only $12.85 in postage. As a result, the letter was returned to me for insufficient postage, and an additional $7.10 due, and I MISSED THE DEADLINE. I had to go bring this letter in person in Manhattan and to take one afternoon off of work. I was ready to call it a mistake and get a refund, but when I went the Mailroom Store, they immediately got defensive and blamed the Post Office. Allegedly the Post Office did not understand that the $12.85 postage they had used was a commercial rate, claiming that the rate they had paid was a business rate from Endicia, the online postage they use. Wrong: upon calling Endicia, I found out that business discount isn't more than 10%, not 50%. I would have forgiven them for charging me twice as much as they had paid had the service been performed, namely the delivery of this extremely time sensitive letter on time. But that had failed too. I would have called it a mistake if they had apologized and refunded me. Instead they wanted me to relinquish the documents which were the only evidence of their mistake and 'file a complaint' with the Post Office and wait for that to be solved to refund me for a service not rendered but charged, with an undetermined outcome and date of resolution. I would have relinquished such documents should they have not cheated me in the first place, thus destroying the likelihood of my trusting them a second time. I would have waited weeks for a refund after their filing a claim to the 'culprit', aka the Post Office, if I had not found out by calling both the Post Office and Endicia, that they had underestimated the postage by half, but charged me twice as much. Not to mention, rude, and horrible business manners, ugly attitudes and work ethics. I returned twice to the Mailroom store: I first discussed with one employee who was not the one I had first received services from, and returned to talk to the one who had. They both refused to repair their mistake and subjected me to an attitude that I would not expect from any business. read more

What a great place! Very happy to have a convenient printing / mailing / copying / faxing place just down the road from my home. Super friendly staff, and quick in and out to get a few pages printed in color. Only draw back is that it doesn't do full service printing - that's a must send out type of thing (which they had an option of, but not quite as helpful if you need something done that day). Good for your basic print job (8 1/2 x 11, 11 x 17, double-sided). Also, just a little bit pricey, but not too bad if your just getting a few copies. $1.90 for an 11 x 17 in color. Other than that, very great service, and much needed in the area. Happy to have it close by. read more

Thompson's is the neighborhood's local printing/mail/fax center. They can ship via USPS, FedEx, UPS or DHL (though DHL is only international now). They also can print, copy, receive/send faxes and have post office boxes. The woman who runs it is very friendly and professional which is a nice change of pace compared to the service you usually get at a Post Office. Thompson's is particularly nice because there are no Post Offices anywhere near here. Not that I don't enjoy walking a mile to drop off a package when it's 15 degrees outside... They also accept your normal stamped mail too, so no need to walk to the closest mail box. The only downside to this place is that you pay for the convenience (no surprise). Everything costs more than it would at the Post Office (not sure about UPS and FedEx) but to me it's well worth it. read more

First of all, I have to hand it to Yelp for helping me find this place. I was in dire need of finding a post office to ship multiple packages as well a place to make copies of my resume before I got called in for a last minute interview. As luck would have it, I live nowhere near a post office, or a Kinkos or something of that nature. The place was just ever so slightly hard to find because there isn't a huge sign out front, so look for the big brown UPS box just in front of the store. The lady working was extremely friendly, and really quite helpful both times that I have been in there. The only negative thing I have to say is that the hours of operation posted on Yelp are either incorrect, or they don't follow the set hours they have posted. I went in early one morning to have something printed- online it says they opened at 9am, so I left my house a little after 9am giving them a about 10 minutes to open up in the time it would take me to walk there. I think I showed up around 9:15am or 9:20, and they still weren't open. Maybe they've changed their hours recently? Maybe just call ahead before you go in? Either way, this place is most definitely worth your business. They are so nice, and will ship whatever you need at the lowest cost- and SO much more friendly than anyone I've encountered at the Post Office!! read more

I see people complaining about taking extra days to ship then they paid, this is a no brainer if you understand how mail pick up works, if you drop a package and pay for 2 day shipping, but you already missed that days pick up, its gonna sit there till the next days pick up, you already gave yourself an extra day of handling, I guess this is obv to me, as Ive shipped so much I know when to get my stuff in if I want it out that day. I really wanted to like this place because it has short lines and very close to my house and stays open later than the post office. It is also open on Sundays which is nice too. Problem is packages don't seem to get shipped out on time. I have it three chances and each time the same thing happened when I paid for priority shipping- it is supposed to be two days excluding holidays and weekends of course. Three different packages took 4 days to get to the post office, this is after I accounted for the weekend. I'm already paying extra to shop priority and then a fee to them for their service. It's not very reliable and the people that work there are constantly on personal phone calls WHILE they are helping you. That really is annoying and I'm sure it makes mistakes happen a lot. This place is closest to me and I've gone there a lot over the last 2 years. Each time I forget how completely unfriendly the staff is. The one girl speaks so softly that I have to say "What" after every single thing she says. They charge a premium for everything. They even charge you money to drop off a Fed-Ex package. I'm writing this review for you and also for me so I can remember what horrible little place this is. It's unfortunate. Anyplace but here will do a better job. OK so I needed some printing services and a notary and I didn't want to travel all the way to NYU to do it. Bam! Yelp shows me this place. But sadly it was terrible. I went in with my documents saved on a flash drive. No matter what, the girl behind the counter could not get it to work. She tried everything and just looked at me with bewilderment and said it doesn't work. Dude it works - you just don't know how to work it. Fortunately, I had e-mailed the documents to myself in anticipation that nothing would work. So I logged in and printed everything off. Then the real gem ... I needed one of the documents notarized. The lady that does it ... walks out to go somewhere ... and doesn't come back for 35 minutes!!! WTF. I look at the girl behind the counter and there is obviously a huge line ... and I find out she cannot do it. Seriously ... how do you let the only person capable of providing full service LEAVE the store during busy hours and let a girl that can't get a USB flash drive to work sit there and try to take care of customers. This girl was getting worried because people were getting angry about the wait. Finally ... in walks the notary capable lady with a Dunkin Donuts bag and acts like nothing is wrong. WTF. I should have got the notary for free instead of having to pay $5! Anyhow ... the notary (aka - i'm pretty sure she was the boss) should have sent the other girl to get donuts ... or at least get her certified to also provide notary services. Unacceptable. Love this place! I live right around the corner from it and come here a lot to send out packages. The lady behind the counter isn't full of smiles, but she's nice enough and very efficient. She is also a notary. She packages my items quickly and always packs them well with and with care. They have lots of boxes, envelopes and packing/shipping supplies. They also offer package receiving service, which is great, especially when people in NYC tend to have trouble receiving packages at apartment buildings. There is usually no one there when I go in, but sometimes I've gone and there have been people waiting. I just saw that they offer passport photos, which is great! read more

This place is a case study of why small businesses die when they don't keep up with the times. They make you write your email address in a paper guest book (which everyone can see) so they can send you a tracking number at some later time. Instead of, you know, just printing a receipt while you're there. So you leave just having to trust things will work out. Also they make you fill out labels by hand. Instead of just typing the address into the system they are obviously using and printing a label. How does a shipping store not have the ability to print labels? When you go to UPS or any other place they type the address into the computer, verify it, and print. read more

Im reviewing based on their mailing services. They say USPS, UPS, FedEx etc... but really they are a FedEx location. So be prepared to pay extra to mail something via UPS (Extra $5) or even USPS (Extra $1) to mail. Minimum $10 for credit card usage. Other than that, a convenient location with friendly and helpful staff. Definitely beats walking all the way to Atlantic to get to the USPS! read more

It is very hard to find this place, because the sign refers to an upholstery cleaning service. After wandering around I usually manage to find the place and post UPS and Fed Ex items. There is normally no wait. It is true that the person working there seems to have an attitude, but maybe she is shy? Not sure about that. read more
