Gotta leave these guys some love here. I've been using this post office for 4 years now and have never had a problem with them. Staff has always been friendly and patient, I've never seen them lose their cool which is a miracle considering the amount of problem solving they need to do with annoyed customers. Problem isn't with this post office, I think it's with how complicated the postal system is in general. I ship weekly all over the world and even I get it wrong every now and then. The carriers have always been good when I have stuff delivered to me. If I'm not home I've always been able to pick it up at the station. I do empathize with the negative reviews here, Bushwick post office lost something expensive I mailed from Greenpoint to Bushwick once, and the folks in Bushwick were rude, had to call national, and they weren't helpful and I wound up eating the cost cause I didn't insure it. That sucked. I'll never not insure something again. As far as the cleanliness of the Greenpoint station, they do their best there. It gets busy. I'm often stunned at how much trash the customers leave around when there are plenty of places to throw it away. It only takes a few minutes for trash to pile up with people being too lazy to be bothered to discard it. It's no different than how folks treat the street outside, like there is someone else to always pick up after you so just leave it. I'll never get that. If we take the 15 seconds to pick up after ourselves we just have a better world. Why is that so difficult? I give this station 4 stars cause it's not as good as it gets, but for a NYC post office it's really good. This ain't some small town. These employees deserve a medal for working in a clusterfuck of a city and keeping it cool. read more

I'm here nearly everyday dropping off packages. Lines are consistently out the door. Staff are always rude or condescending. Thick black woman won't even look at you when speaking -- and she's 'always correct.' It's gotten comical to witness how much of a shit show this post office is. read more

The postman screwed up a delivery of mine, but this post office came to the rescue. They held the package there - and for the mistake they actually took names. (Unprompted by me!) CLOSE THIS "POST OFFICE" REPLACE THE WORKERS WITH MACHINES AND ATTENDANTS. Most of the workers here are unprofessional and rude but worst of all give wrong information. When I use the machine here on the other hand I have no problem. Protest the lack of service here by going to the machine thus cutting down on the worker transactions. Here's how this place works: If you need to use the machine to ship a package, this place is great. For literally anything else, you're in for a bad experience. The "employees" here will do anything and everything to resist having to actually work, and won't hesitate to be totally obnoxious if given the chance to actually speak. Another package missing! I went to the branch to see if they happened to have it since tracking showed that it had been "Delivered" while I was at home. Surprise!. It was not delivered and no, USPS did not know where it had gone. One of the employees told me to contact the Investigations department and handed me a sticker to place on my mailbox to remind people that stealing mail is a federal offense. She also said that people were stealing packages left and right in Greenpoint. If this is the case, why doesn't USPS try to deliver packages a little better? Maybe ring the bell and wait a few seconds for someone to answer. This story does have a somewhat happy note as the unopened package mysteriously landed on my stoop about one month after tracking showed the "Delivered" status. Want to get rid of that pesky faith in humanity thing? Try sending or receiving mail in the 11222 zip code. If you live in Greenpoint, switch all your bills to e-mail and only get your packages sent to your office, because you won't be receiving it from these guys. Unless it's junk mail, in which case they happily throw tons of it through your door. The worst part is packages. They use a different dude to deliver boxes, and he's left notices in the door for times when I was home, only to loose the packages between his truck and the post office. The manager of the place is a dick, and takes no responsibility for tracking anything down. He'll give you a number that no one answers, so he expects you to come during their shorter than bankers hours. And if you do happen to be home, they act like total dicks about having to give you something. The dudes that deliver burritos on their bikes get paid crap but they're super cool. Postal workers get a salary and full benefits to deliver things, so what's with the attitude? read more

This must be the safest post office -- for the postal workers -- ever. They've got these plexiglass windows with a security door you have to lift up to hand your packages to them. Then they jam this metal bar forward to keep your door closed while they open a door on the other side to get your box. They also have these speaker boxes -- Norcon's "Original Talk-Thru-Unit" -- http://www.norconcomm.com/ttu_1.html -- that they use to talk to you. They're pretty garbled, and the postal workers can be difficult to understand sometimes. And if you're mailing padded envelopes, don't close them with staples or you'll get yelled at. This post office isn't really worth the walk, especially given the mailing station at the Polish pharmacy near the subway. read more

This post office is awful. And they are terrible at actually delivering packages... Last I checked, this is in fact their service. Apparently I'm not the only one in the neighborhood with the problem. I really do try to avoid going in to the post office, but I've had to more frequently since my mail carrier has decided to stop leaving parcels, delivery notifications, and redelivery notices. In 2 cases they've just held on to the package and then returned to the sender without any notification to me at any time. The online redelivery system does not work. (It sends a confirmation, but they don't seem to do anything about it or just ignore those requests). And often, the tracking information is not correct either. Since I work 9-5 in Manhattan I don't have time to go wait in line for 45 minutes during my workday. When I HAVE gone to the post office, and waited in their epic lines, they only acknowledge that many people are having the same problem (carrier not leaving a note) and that i need to come to the post office. Since I don't have that luxury during their normal open hours, they say to call the 1-800 number. What baffles me is that if they know it's a common problem, why their management doesn't do anything about it? So I called their 1-800 # to file a complaint. After 30 minutes of waiting, the gentleman I spoke to was incredibly friendly. He sounded genuinely surprised and disappointed that the postmaster/staff is not only aware of the issue but isn't doing anything about it. So, he escalated the complaint to Consumer Affairs. Let's see if it makes an impact. The other option that he shared with me, that the post office employee did not offer me as an option, is a package interception request (in cases when packages are being returned to the sender). You have to pay for this (of course) and you have to request it in person. But that is one option. The other option is to just not have any packages sent to you, ever.... read more

"which option is cheaper?" ... she explains confusingly and gives me the expensive option, then an attitude when I say again I wanted the cheapest option. Terrible service. I requested a mail pick-up online since I had multiple large packages to ship out. On day one I waited...and waited...and waited. No one showed up to collect the packages. So, I tried again and re-scheduled. Same story on day two...and day three. Each day my pick-up status online was mysteriously listed as "Completed". Why bother to list a service if no one will ever show up to collect the items? read more

Nasty Bigotry at the Post Office. After receiving a pink slip I stopped in to pick up a package. Waited in line for over HALF an HOUR. ( only 1 employee at the window ) Finally handed the woman my slip and waited. and waited and waited.... 15 mins more I became frustrated... so I spoke through the speaker - ( whats happening, why is this taking so long? ) She returned saying - " wazzat u who said dat?" I said " yes, why is this taking so long?" She tossed the paper back and me saying " well now i can't find it" ( muttering... "impatient faggot" " NEXT! This is my second review. In my last one I explained how a package sent from this office was opened and had its contents replaced before arriving at its destination. This time, the tracking update said that yesterday they had tried delivering and left a notice (which didn't happen and I never received a notice) and then 7 hours later it said that it was delivered and signed for (which it wasn't). I asked for proof of delivery which shows a signature that is basically a straight line, and an address that is purposefully scribbled to be indecipherable) So I have no notice and no package and by all accounts its delivered and they can't help me. I called USPS to start an investigation and even went to the post office to have them look for the package. Nothing. It's like organized criminals running a post office. They steal and/or lose packages, and they even go so far as to open and replace contents of packages. If your mail or packages has to be picked up from - or delivered by - this post office I feel very sorry for you. This is the worst place ever. read more

This is one of the worst post offices I have had the displeasure of using. Understaffed. Ill-informed. And a total lack of communication. I was recently shipping a few orders out and had a few overseas packages, so i had to wait in line instead of using the APS machine. One of my packages that weighed less than 2 pounds was rung up as $45 with no explanation as to why it was so high. I had to do some research online to find out that the box dimensions were to big (by 4 inches overall) which meant i could not ship first class international so the postal worker was sending it priority without asking. To all negative reviews out there, I don't think you have seen how other Brooklyn and Queens post offices function. I only come here to ship stuff, because I refuse to go to my local post office due to long lines. I usually come around 2PM, I am always out of there within 10 minutes. Staff is nice, never encountered any problem with them, as far as I know, their customer service is OK. After a painful history with my local post office, I will ship my orders to work, to stay away from my local post office in case it needs to be picked up, I'd rather pick it up at Meserole station. read more

This is the WORST post office in the history of post offices! I cannot tell you how unhelpful the staff is, and RUDE RUDE RUDE to boot! One star doesn't even cover it, seriously. They have now officially "lost" 5 packages sent to me. Which is what has provoked me to write this. All the packages were sent signature confirmed and yet none were actually delivered. Not even a note stating they couldn't be, and they're being held for pick-up or anything. They've "lost" important expensive gifts that cannot be replaced and more. Every time I go in someone is complaining that a package wasn't delivered to them, and on the online tracking it says it was. I've now put in 3 official complaints to the postal inspection agency- and nothing. I think the only help for this post office is if someone gets the guts to burn the place down and write in graffiti on the side-walk exactly why!!!! read more

Ok, I have had this as my post office since 2002 now and I am completely in hate with them. I try to avoid it as much as possible and my friends and I once googled the post office, came up with this yelp page and laughed our asses off. I am spurred to actually write something due to my experience this morning in which they told me they didn't have a package for me, I found out through the USPS site that they did, then I offered to come pick it up (once they located it which took foreves) and the "Miss Majors" yelled at me "Don't yell in my ear!" and I was all "Huh?" Because I wasn't yelling and I was offering to make their job easier. Oh, and the reason that we always make fun of this post office is they are consistently out of stamps. It was a Saturday morning, and I was dreading having to go to the post office. I didn't have a good sleep the night before because of the anxiety that was building up. I needed to mail out 111 letters, and get a certificate of mailing for each just so I can meet an application deadline (loft coverage in Williamsburg - go figure!). I was about to haul all those letters to the Madison Square USPS, but I decided to call the Greenpoint post office. During my online research, I remembered that they handled bulk mailings on Saturday mornings. The woman who answered the phone was very kind; she informed me that I should show up early to avoid long lines. I quickly packed all my letters and headed over there. Barbara Foley was patient and extremely helpful. She assisted me with getting postage for all my letters, and also verified each letter for a certificate of mailing. It took about 30 minutes for everything to be stamped and accounted for. I was pleasantly surprised that my experience wasn't a postal nightmare. Why all the hate here? I mail around 20 boxes a week. I have tried multiple post offices. This one, while not perfect, beats every post office I've tried in Brooklyn. They are friendly, the line moves somewhat quickly. Have your package prepared before you come using the post office website or stamps.com, and you can just drop it off in the bin and be on your way. It couldn't be easier. I know the postal service in NYC can be frustrating, but give these guys a chance. They are trying. read more

I once offered to pick up a package for my roommate, who couldn't make this post office's hours due to work. The unhappy person in charge of pickups rudely informed me that I needed an ID to verify that it was my package. I informed her of the situation and she eventually agreed to give me the package, but just as rudely told me that "next time, SHE has to come get her own package!" This struck me as very odd. In the past I've picked up lots of stuff for my roommates (at other post offices, of course) and they've done the same for me, and never was there a problem until this place. I've gone back several times to pick up packages of my own. They've never again asked to see my ID. They manage to still be just as rude, though. read more

this very well may be the worst place on earth. wish there was an option for zero stars. in addition to completely incompetent and apathetic employees, there are the following delights: 1- some sort of drop-off box that may be for larger packages but isn't labeled AT ALL (with the exception being a sticker telling you which direction to slide the handle to open it- thanks captain obvious!) 2- a window labeled "package drop-off" that is locked 3- having to wait in a long line (it's ALWAYS crowded in there) just to get to a window to ask someone where to drop off a package, and then when you finally get there are given attitude with the directive to "go to window #1" with an air of "how didn't you know this?," only to get to window #1 to find it LOCKED and not labeled whatsoever THANK YOU, yet again, USPS for making an extremely simple, mundane task infuriatingly annoying and overly complicated read more

The worst experience I've had at a post office. I had a cell phone mailed to me priority two-day. After three days, the tracking # told me they attempted to drop it off at my apartment and left a slip and to pick it up at the post office. Coincidentally, I was home sick for a few days and never got a slip or a buzz. Thinking it's at the post office like the tracking # says, I make the trek there. Mind you, it's the most grotesque post office I've ever seen. It smells like hot bad breath and has plexiglass barricades... Anyway, the woman immediately tells me she doesn't have it but she will check. She comes back with a package and tells me "Oh this isn't yours. Your package isn't here." Thanks for that nice little rub in my face. I explain the situation and tell her my tracking # told me it was there. She simply says, "I already told you, it's not here." I try again, politely, and say, "Well, what's the point of tracking if it's incorrect? Can you check on your end of the system to see what tracking says?" The woman told me again, "I already told you it's not here, you can go use that machine (points to some god-awful piece of crap machine in the corner) to check if you want." I believe the other reviews here are being far too kind. One of the great things about customer service is that when it is carried out well, it pays dividends to both customer and vendor without costing either a penny. This principle is lost - truly and irrevocably lost - at the Greenpoint USPS Office. It has nothing to do with being busy. I've lived in other parts of the city and the local Post Offices were as crowded as this place is, if not more so. While not perfect, they at least made the effort and got things done in a reasonable manner. I have to guess that the problem in Greenpoint is due to a shitty manager. Our local postal carrier is an idiot, too. He/she leaves the front door to our building open EVERY SINGLE TIME in spite of a clearly posted note asking them politely to close the door! Though, I still get my Netflix on time, so I guess the one star isn't completely wasted. read more

Well that couldn't have gone worse! Our app was at 9am and we left an hour later filled with rage. We were the third people in line and even though we had an appointment we had to wait in line, which would be fine if three people didn't take 40 minutes. There was one mean/lazy woman working one window. It's as if this woman took and angry Xanex. She went out of her way to make everyone wait longer. Punishing us for a co-worker not showing up. Disappeared into the back three separate times for up to 10 minutes at a time. There was a line to the door. When it was finally our turn we stepped up to the window and she yelled at us that she's not ready. Disappeared in back again for 5 min and came back telling us it was going to be a long while till she could help any of us because she "thinks her system isn't working". To which my husband replied "We have a 9am appointment and it's 945! Where is he communication around here?" To which she replied "Oh, passport? We probably won't be able to process that anyway". My husband had taken off work, I had woken up the baby early and gotten him ready We drove around looking for parking and arrived 15 minutes early for our app. It's all SO maddening. I asked for her supervisor and she disappeared again for a few minutes and said she was busy. Her badge was covered up by her apron but I could see the Ma of her name. I asked her name and she told me it was none of my business. I asked again for the supervisor and she came this time and refused to give me the woman's name, and walked into the back never to return. It's all so crazy! Who gets held accountable?! It's just so clear that this woman hates her job. Here's my thing. Whatever you do, do it well. I don't care what you do, just give a damn and do it well. ...and now I have to make another appointment. Never going back to the Greenpoint post office. Never ever. read more

I was in here the other day waiting in a long, never ending line to mail a package. There was an old man in front of me who, when he finally got to one of the two open windows, asked the older woman for a roll of stamps. She waved him away so he went to the younger woman at the window next to her. She tells him they don't have stamps. DON'T. HAVE. STAMPS. Then she tells him to wait while she goes to look. Ten minutes later she comes back and reaffirms - nope, no stamps. No stamps in the post office. Right. She helpfully gives him directions to a place on Nassau. No she couldn't remember the name of the cross street where the shop was where he'd be able to buy stamps. Good luck old dude, it's cold out there. So now, I am at the front of the line. Waiting, waiting. The younger woman has just straight up disappeared since 'helping' the older gentleman. The older woman is watching with eagle eyes as this poor schmuck who had the temerity to stick address labels on his massive pile of packages, was forced to rewrite all the addresses etc directly onto the boxes with a marker. She kept asking him why he stuck on labels. This farce was going on since I first got to the back of the line. Okay now I'm at the front. Thinking any minute now the young woman would come back and I could finally mail my mom's birthday present. She doesn't. Ten minutes later, she's still not back. So even though I was at the front of the line I thought F**k it, and left. After reading all the reviews here today, I am so glad I didn't wait what for god knows how long in order to hand over my package. I doubt it would have seen the light of day again. I came here to pick up a package that I rescheduled the delivery for online...which never came. Yes, the people waiting were very impatient, but how can you blame them? There was no indication of which end of the line was the beginning and which was the end. Once I got to the front of the line, the woman went to go get my package. Immediately after, I hear a huge fight break out. After 15 minutes, I realized that nobody was looking for my package because the woman who was supposed to be getting it was the one in the screaming match behind the wall. I finally got the attention of a different woman in the back sorting mail. She was really nice and asked what I was waiting for. She grabbed it right away for me. I'm hoping to use UPS and FedEx for packages going forward so that I don't have to deal with this post office again. read more

I've had unpleasant experiences there in the past and I have seen the staff being rude to folks trying to pick up their mail. I've also seen customers acting like huge d!ckheads to the staff for no reason. But maybe they've been reading their yelp reviews because I went there on Tuesday and it was like Disney movie level pleasantry. The gentleman who helped me (his name tag said John V) was extremely helpful and patient -- and he was smiling! He was asking everyone how their day was going and he was cracking jokes, but he still kept the line moving. I was in and out of the post office in a few minutes. I was so appreciative of his good nature and efficiency that I looked at his name tag so I could write this review for him. Also, I didn't see her name tag, but the woman working next to him happily spent 10+ minutes helping a customer pick out stamps he really liked as he flamboyantly requested different colors & motifs. Seriously, everyone on this page that is bad-mouthing the Greenpoint Post Office needs to go spend an afternoon waiting in line at the Williamsburg Post Office and then come back on here and reassess their post. Oh the agony that I endured just trying to receive my mail when I lived in Williamsburg. The Greenpoint post office, on the other hand, is refreshingly staffed with competent and friendly workers who get you in and out in a matter of minutes.
