Based on the reviews, I was dreading my visit to this location and ended up leaving pleasantly surprised! I showed up expecting the line to be out the door but there were only 7 or so people inside. It took maybe 15 minutes to wait in line and process my package shipment. Granted it was a Friday afternoon so maybe that worked in my favor. All the employee interactions I observed seemed cordial enough. Especially when compared to the few customers that would watch videos on their phone without headphones or conduct phone conversations while waiting in line. The most "rude" interaction I noticed from an employee was when a customer (who had filled out the incorrect form) asked the employee if they would fill out the right form for them and was bluntly told no. This seemed like a reasonable response as any. Maybe I would have a lower review if I had to frequent the post office more often but my experience was definitely not as bad as many of the reviews listed here. So if you have to ship something very simple, do not let the fear of potentially mild discomfort hold you back from going to the criminally underfunded federal entity that is the US Post Office. read more

It's a post office. I don't have high hopes. That being said, this is a federal government facility and the staff here don't know what the federal ADA rules on service dogs are. I'm waiting in line with my service dog sitting quietly by my side. An employee approaches and says dogs aren't allowed inside. I say he's a service dog. She says "some people are afraid of dogs can you just wait with it outside" since my partner was also with me inside. I said "no I don't need to wait outside, he is a trained service dog and he is not posing a threat to anyone in this post office." She then asks for my service dog registration. THERE IS NO SUCH THING. There is no federal service dog registry, no certification, none of that, in the USA. The ADA allows business to ask service dog handlers two questions: "Is that a service dog?" and "What tasks is the dog trained to perform to assist with your disability?" THAT'S IT. I try explaining this to the lady, I even tried pulling up the ADA website, but she just insists I need to show her a service dog ID. There are no such things as service dog IDs. Any service dog ID anyone in the US has is a PROP bought on Amazon or something. While some legit handlers do buy them for situations exactly like this, it's literally not a thing. Eventually she just gives up and walks away, but later when I'm about to go up to the clerk for my package the same woman is like "you better hope my manager isn't here next time you come in with your dog if you dont have an ID". Crazy idea but maybe employees at a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FACILITY should know about FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LAWS on service dogs, instead of threatening me against returning. read more

Severely understaffed USPS. There are only 2 staffs working when there are 5 clerk stations available. When I came here on a Monday at 1:30pm, people were lining up even outside the office. Later, they brought in another staff to take care of people who were just here to pick up their packages, which made the line much shorter and efficient. But I wish they did this earlier. Expect to wait in line for at least more than 30 min if you plan on visiting this location. read more

All NYC post offices that I have been to range from bad to abysmal, and this is not one of the best of the worst. The lines are always horrific and the state of the post office is always disgustingly dirty. They do try to help the lines alone by taking everyone's package slips at once, but there always seems to be way too little people at the windows for the throngs of people trying to get their mail. There always seems to be more staff in the back hanging out and laughing and I wonder why they don't have all hands on deck when there are literally twenty five people waiting in line. One time my boyfriend was here in line and heard someone in the back of the office mention there were brownies in the break room. Maybe that's why there was hardly anyone working the windows. I'm sure it's hard to work at a place where ninety percent of customers are already irritated, but blatantly relaxing in front of customers is odd (isn't the post office open for only four hours in Saturdays anyway? How much of a break do you need?) Even though I want to scream, I'm always really nice to the people working and they seem to be nice back to me which is why I'll give this location two stars. read more

Absolutely abysmal. The staff are unhelpful, this neighborhood's USPS is a total joke. The post office in general is smelly, dirty and appears to suffer from a broken door who is perpetually locked, without signage. The lines are long and all sound is muffled due to a plastic barrier between you and the USPS workers. It's horrible. Just the fucking worst. THANKFULLY they batch customers who are picking up packages. So they take everyone's slips, and those waiting for pickup can have a seat. Just about the only productive thing they do here. I am so frustrated with this place just makes no sense. Then the lobby worker is upset at customers, because we don't want to stand in a 2 hour line?!?!? While I have had worse experiences at post offices- this one wasn't as bad? The lines are long and it's a bit dirty. However, they'll do their best to see you as quickly as possible. It's outside the control of the staff and is most likely due to government policy- but better staffing could be helpful to improving the experience at this location. Sometimes the post office workers say deliver it but they never delivered it they take it and then next day you see them wear on their feet to work and stuff. Dealing with bureaucratic entities such as the DMV and Post Office, you're having to hear a lot of rules, a lot of you can't do this and you can't do that. Suffice it to say, these are not places you go to for fun. I had to go because I lost my passport (I'm usually not that careless but it's 2020 so anything is possible). Anyway, I wanted to get this over and done with. I made my appointment and there was a lady named Cynthia who was handling the flow (maintaining social distancing), answering questions and doing passport applications. She was no nonsense too--people would try to walk in but she would scold people that tried to walk in. When I was going through the process, she told me that since I have an out-of-state driver's license, I would need something in addition. I was ready for her to tell me I can't apply but instead, she asked me if I had a credit card, she could make a copy (redacted my card number). I appreciate that. The reviews are pretty bad but I didn't have that experience, as a matter of fact, I wish I lived closer to this location because the PO near me is where customer service goes to die. read more

I was assured that when my package came through this facility, a postal employee would see that my mail forwarding was on and would be brought to the forwarding facility. OBVIOUSLY that didn't happen and I was so angry to see that my package was delivered to my old address. Someone there didn't do their job properly (but, what else is new). I've tried calling at least 10 times and no one is picking up the phone. USPS should be ashamed of this facility and their lack of service. No one cares here. read more

Since I have to at least give a star to write this review... THIS LOCATION HAS THE WORST SERVICE EVER! Almost everyone has a nasty attitude and they take the phone off the hook so you can't call. Yes, you read that! I went in since the phone was busy for an hour straight and mentioned to post master. She told me to call back I had it on speaker in front of her and she walked behind the gray door and put the phone BACK on the hook to prove the phone works. This location is always dirty, the carriers are lazy-- instead of delivering up stairs or giving you an option to come downstairs, they say you were unavailable and leave slip to pick up. This sad, crowded excuse for a post office is such a pit of total despair and impressive incompetence I just said "no more" today, walked out and went to the one on Eighth Ave near the Garden in the city to send my package. Five-minute wait under beautiful high ceilng, courtly older gentleman efficiently helped me, and I was on my way back to Brooklyn in two shakes. Still wishing I could give this place zero stars. You'd think, with all of these negative reviews and comments over the years, that they'd take even a small part of it to heart and make changes. Nope. While they did make allocations for social distancing, putting strips on the floor to indicate six feet apart and clearly indicating on their doors that only ten people would be allowed inside, no customers paid attention and no one at the post office was doing anything to enforce the rules. I waited outside for ten minutes. Once I was lucky enough to be one of the ten inside, I waited another 45 minutes. I made the mistake of leaving a good review last month, and ever since I have the service has been crap. Today took the cake. I went in to mail drop off a pre-paid pkg and the clerk refused to scan it. First she said it was because the label was dated yesterday, then she said 'oh, but we were closed', then she goes but no, I can't scan it because it would make it look like the post office delayed the package and she shook her shoulders and folded her hands like a weirdo. I was kind of annoyed, but I have other stuff to do so I was like whatever and as I was walking away the bitch actually goes 'whatever', like a schoolkid mimicking me. I walked out but then I was like, nah. If you don't want to scan it for whatever weird reason, that's one thing, but the little mimicking comment was a step too far. How old are you? So I go back and I told her she was lying because I bring pkgs there all the time, and she just let herself go. Really nasty attitude. I was crying with laughter inside because she looked so dumb. Then she goes 'whatever you say, pretty woman'- so are you calling me ugly or low-key claiming that I'm a prostitute? What does that even mean? Who the hell hires these people? So now I just spent 10 minutes sending a complaint to the post office (just in case she screws up my pkg) and complaining here. Actually surprising how this post office manages to drop the ball on their only job: getting mail to people it's addressed to. They've lost an entire ironing board (no joke, said they had it in their office, then said they didn't know what I was talking about once I got there, waited 1 hour and ten minutes to discover this). This time I accidentally had a small package sent to my home address and discovered its status was undeliverable. Need it for a wedding this weekend. Here's the story: couldn't deliver it because they couldn't gain access to the building (you deliver mail? Our exterior door doesn't actually lock? Whatever, okay) and they said they could redeliver it because, and I quote "we don't really do that, and we can't tell you when it will be redelivered." ...so why is that even an option? Post office is 9-5 every weekday. I work 9-5 in Manhattan. Waiting times at this place are criminal. I'll need to take THREE HOURS off work to get this package because this place can't deliver mail. Disclosure: I know they're understaffed and underfunded, and it's a poor neighborhood so the city literally doesn't care but this is crazy town. It's MAIL. I'm rooting for the robots to take over. I dread every time I have to come here. The last time I had to send out an important package I took it on the train to Penn Station rather than go to this place. Retrieving packages is even worse. Thoughts and prayers. I have literally sent packages back to the shipper rather than have to deal with them. Inefficient doesn't begin to describe how bad their system is. I wonder if packages are going home with the employees, and their incompetence is a cover-up. Or are they are really that incompetent? I can't decide which would be worse. They have lost packages, can't find packages they say they have (and the guy who seemed to be the manager was rude about it when I complained that it was taking 45 minutes for them to search the back room, where it was supposedly somewhere); and their supposed re-delivery process doesn't function at all. There was one competent and friendly employee I dealt with once. She was never seen from again. I suspect that the manager stashed her in the back room, and put a re-delivery label on her, so clearly she will never be heard from again. I have tried to write my district's Congressperson about this place (we are both in the district); I don't even get a response. She probably knows it is a lost cause. (Still, a response would have been nice,Yvette Clarke. Write to her if you live in the district!) I went to the lower Manhattan DMV recently - it was a great experience. If the DMV can transform, so can the USPS. Otherwise, the robots will take your jobs, and I will be there to welcome them. (if only I could rate this place 0 stars) I dread seeing one of those notes telling me I have a package to pick up (and don't even get me started on past issues with not receiving notices, or finding them out in the street). Usually I decide to go first thing on a Saturday morning, so I can get in and get out--and move on with my day. Today however--took just just over an hour to pick up a package. Apparently opening at 8am on a Saturday really means, they open at 8:22 with ONE PERSON working. By the time the gate finally opened there were about a dozen of us waiting. The guy working seemed just as thrilled to be there as we were (wearing headphones, shirt untucked) and seemed to have no sense of urgency as the line grew long and longer--and everyone waiting grew more and more frustrated. I'm not sure I've ever seen a very good post office review, but this location is one of the especially bad ones. There's no package drop bin or automated Kiosk, so if you have something "quick" to do, it's going to take a very long time. Even just to drop off your completely read to go package...you have to wait in the endless line or risk the attendees or customers yelling at you for "cutting". Dirty, rude, crowded, everything you expect in a city post office. Seriously NYC Postmaster, every location should have a kiosk and drop bins for mail and packages, it's the only small way we can try and avoid the long lines and incompetent people you hire! read more

THIS PLACE MAKES THE DMV SEEM LIKE 5-STAR SERVICE. Our mail carrier is the only reason this place gets a star. She is courteous and always helpful / leaves packages at the door because she knows of our nightmarish experiences at the office itself. Somebody needs to start from scratch. I mean literally clean this place out of the negativity that works here. Disgraceful. Do not even try to reason why this USPS branch doesn't care about your package. They simply don't care about you or any customer or human being.They will berate you for the sake of berating you. Don't have an ID when you're picking up your spouse's package? You might as well have called the clerk a derogatory name to illicit the type of reaction that occurs when you show up to legitimately and honestly try to do your spouse a favor. You would think you are criminal. Mind you, I've never been met with such animosity from a postal employee at any other post office I've ever been to, let alone everyone at this branch. Want tape for your package? "*snarl* You're not my master!" is what I heard one of the employees shout to a customer when asking for packing tape. What are they really mad about, here? A true shame. If you truly want to have your complaint heard, do what we always do when we have a problem, contact your Postmaster Inspector General, and tell them it's the "James E Davis" location. (Why anyone would want to have their name tarnished by naming USPS location after their gruesome and tragic murder is beyond any real logic.
