The staff here are friendly, helpful, and efficient. The place uses a take-a-number system, which I have to admit I find useful for gauging how long the line will be (this might just be a bit of a placebo effect, since I could just count the number of people and packages... but it's fun to have). But 5 stars definitely for the staff. I do a fair bit of express mailing and they've been friendly and helpful about my various questions. I'm sure they answer the same questions over and over, so kudos to them for not rolling their eyes and instead doing their best to take folks seriously. read more

This post office branch is a life saver! It's open when all other non commercial and commercial mail outlets are closed, it's open on Sunday, it's easy to get to on the subway... it is fantastic! I cannot believe how much cheaper it is to send packages to places like Denmark via USPS vs. UPS or Federal Express (literally hundreds of dollars cheaper). Tucked away behind South Station is a post office. Who knew? Great place to ship stuff out or get stamps - they have automated ATM like things for stamps now which is AWESOME. I hate how you can't walk down the water on the side that the Post Office is on. It's all blocked off like you might do damage to this huge place. I love this post office!! I have been working 80 hours a week and trying to plan my wedding at the same time... and on Sunday at 5pm I desperately needed stamps for my wedding invitations. In what I thought would be a vain attempt, I searched for a post office that might be open... Low and behold, I found FORT POINT STATION!!! Not only were they open, but they were friendly, well staffed and had a huge selection of stamps. It was honestly one of the best post office experiences that I have had in recent years. read more

My expectations were at an all-time low when I first opened a PO Box at this location, especially given the decrepit state of the US Postal Service. I'm honestly not surprised by this location's high rating. In terms of their PO Boxes, they offer very cheap bi-yearly and yearly rates. If you pay in the office you don't have the option to buy a 3-month box. The staff is generally friendly, always competent. They DO actually answer the phone - don't press 0 or else the automated customer service robot will hang you up to dry. To be fair, the efficient service/generally content staff is probably due to the post office's outlying location. For anyone who has ever tried to contact USPS and has been transferred and retransferred ad nauseum, only to wind up with an automated message saying that the 'customer service function is not available at this time, please hang up and try again later', I'm sure you'd agree that just to be able to talk to a real person who is willing to help you (and is happy and efficient about it) automatically earns this Post Office 5 stars. Unfortunately, due to a lost passport, I have now become intimately familiar with several post offices in the Boston area. This is, thankfully, one of the better ones: it's clean, big, bright, and happy. Yes, happy. It's true what the other reviewers say: the staff working there are nice and courteous and friendly. The hours are also amazing. A couple of cons, though, which unfortunately caused me a needless amount of running around: - When I called their number, I was put through to a kindly, but veeeery leisurely-paced gentleman who (1) incorrectly recorded my 22-digit tracking number FOUR TIMES (admittedly, it is 22 digits - why, USPS, why!?!), and (2) gave me a number for the Cambridge post office which led to an answering machine for "Rucci brothers - our hours are..." Huh???? - Apparently, there's some sort of disconnect between "retail" (the front end of the post office) and "the plant" (the back end). This near-mythical "plant" has been referred to with fear and awe by the post office workers I've spoken with; my passport is, apparently, stuck in the jaws of the plant. You cannot go in the plant. Millions of pieces of mail are sorted in the plant. Sorted by machines. Machines which humans cannot interfere with. Sigh... Meanwhile, I keep receiving Track & Confirm updates from "the plant" telling me that, yet again, Boston USPS has "processed" my package. Is it just whirling around on a conveyer belt, getting scanned repeatedly? This is an incredibly frustrating scenario. What is this plant?! Is this some sort of Cylon fortress?!!? Don't forget to get your number (ooooh high tech) at the door or they won't serve you, even if you're the only freaking person standing in line. Despite going at off-peak hours on a weekday with only 1 person standing in front of me in line, I ended up waiting 30 minutes...with my number. It's not that these people are particularly slow...it's just that they aren't particularly fast at all either. There are 3 counters open and of course, there's someone doing the passport thing, the other person who doesn't speak English, and the person who has a package that the USPS staff cannot seem to find in the back. There's also always that USPS Queen Bee who will stand behind the counter for hours, watching the looooooong line form...without trying to offer help to any of her colleagues. Why 4 stars? Well, they didn't lose my package, this place is open till freakin' midnight, and it's the prettiest USPS I've ever been to. read more

Due to my terrible experience at lafayette USPS, I had to call south station to find my 500 dollar package. The woman on the phone was really helpful. I also tried to file a complaint on the phone but she told me this south station office is not in anyway affiliated with the Lafayette office next to China town. She gave me the area manager number to contact and helped me figure out my package issue. **It is just hard for me to believe that Pete who work at the Layfayette USPS next to Chinatown could just give such bad suggestion. He also just called for the next person and cut the conversation. It was only a 1-minute conversation and I only asked him why I had to go to another USPS to check my package. **If I just believed his honesty, I would spend 20 minutes driving to the south station office or any other office for nothing. I don't understand where he learned his rude attitude. Shame on him!!!!!!!!!! He gave a bad name to USPS and all the helpful and hardworking clerks who work there. read more

I created a Yelp account just to review this post office. Seriously. It is unparalleled. Staff are attentive, helpful, and incredibly friendly. Honestly, I feel happier when I leave this post office than when I go in. And I know how crazy that sounds. Also, it is beautiful (the building and the river alongside it) and always has free parking available. I've been using this post office for several months and couldn't be happier. I have PO box with 24/7 access and free parking in downtown Boston. I choose this post office over all the others because of the lack of parking. Some complain about not enough parking but you can park on the side of the road and I have never once not been able to park (going here 4-5 times a week for 7 months). The service windows are open 7 days a week until either 9pm or midnight. During the day it can get rather busy but the job does a great job of moving people through. Best of all the cut off time for delivery is 7pm and in some cases that includes express and priority. This post office is also the cleanest I have ever seen and they have almost every price amount of stamp you can imagine. Don't worry about postcard or odd amount stamps being out of stock. read more

The best post office I've ever been to. Let me just mention my terrible experience with post offices - I hate them. The people working at post offices always take their bad mood out on you. And they're always in a bad mood. Every time I've been in here, the workers have been relatively happy and I've never had a negative experience with one. They have a "take a ticket and come when your number is called" is kind of ridiculous, especially when you're the only person in line and they ask if you took a ticket, but I'm sure it comes in handy when it's busy. The pro of all pros: the lobby is open 24/7 - so if you have a PO box, you don't have to hurt yourself trying to get there before they close the lobby. I believe the actual counter where you can buy stamps and such is open til midnight. Pro #2: The last collection isn't until 8pm! Even on Saturdays! Can definitely be a life-saver. This is definitey the best post office in Boston (knock on wood). Everything you can ask for and it's located right by South Station. read more

Cmon. It's open 24 hours and has a "take a number" machine in it. And then there's this awesome story: So I decided to sell a lot of my old DVDs on Amazon. Smart move too, because that shit sells so fast. Unfortunately, Amazon takes like 28 percent, but that's for a different review. I've found the easiest way to get my packages to my customers is to take the train into work early, since I switch at South Station anyways, and hit up the Fort Point P.O. And everythings always been very pleasant in that regard. This morning I go in there and some lady is bitching out one of the tellers for Hell Knows What, and so this OTHER lady comes out. They're takin number 50 and I hold 55, but I've been there like 6 minutes already. Right, so this lady comes out and she goes "Is anyone paying with credit or debit?" and I'm all "Yeah me" and she's like "Hey I'll show you how to use the automated machine" and I'm all like "Yeah, I have media mail, can it do that?" because someone at work said IT COULDN'T BE DONE. And she's like "Yeah totally" and she like... gave me a lesson on how to check out what rates I should purchase for media mail, and then she goes "Hey you ever think of printing stamps at home?" and I'm like "Yeah but I don't have a scale", and she's like "Oh I have something you can use" and I'm like "huh?" and she goes to her office while I'm getting more stamps and comes back with these little plastic scales that, when an item heavier than the scale's rating is applies to it, bends down far enough that the bottom hits the table. It's like nature's physics at work to let me know what Media Mail rate to choose from home. This lady didn't have to be so helpful, but she WAS, and that was amazing, and so five stars are in order. Cuz, I mean, now I don't even have to go there since I can just do it from home. WORD. read more

I wouldn't normally review a post office, but this one is outstanding. First of all, it's open from 6am-midnight, and on national/ postal holidays the retail window is open from 9am-5pm. For those who run a small business, this rocks! Also, near the T, there's free parking, fast & friendly service, and an abundance of postal supplies! you know...this place is really cool, great hours, cool features and machines. so 4 stars for that. 1 star deducted because i raced there one day with packages already paid for, and got there at 7:58 (they collect at 8) and as i stood there panting and frantic, a cashier opened up! and i was like thank GOD i made it!! and the lady looked right at me, and then decided to shoot the shit with the customer for a full minute while i antsily switched between checking the time every 3 seconds and just staring at her. and finally ANOTHER cashier opened up and i ran over and they were like oh we have already collected but we will take it. so i hope they shipped it out but im not sure. i just wish, like one minute before closing, you just had like an OUNCE of urgency. in fact feel free to take my packages and shoot the shit at the same time! i didnt even have to pay for anything - just had to hand my packages to a human. read more

First of all, they offer free parking right at the front door. That alone makes them bad ass. I had to go to the Mailing Requirements office to set up an account for bulk mailings, which is something I knew nothing about, but was about to find out there are a gazillion steps. It's confusing and it's a pain. I wish I remembered the name of the gentleman who waited on me. He was sooo nice and spent about 30 minutes with me going over every detail on the forms and all the steps that needed to be done. Next, I had to go to the main room to purchase stamps. There were 3 people working the counter and they were all smiling. Let me repeat this...All 3 of the people WORKING at the POST OFFICE were SMILING. Between the free parking and the great customer service, I was waiting for candy to start falling from the sky. The woman who waited on me was lovely, and they all wished me a "great day!". Free parking, great customer service, and I was there at lunch time and it wasn't even busy. P.S. Before I went there, I contacted this location via email with questions regarding the process. This is a relatively huge US Post Office but the service here is awful. I came in and asked a choppy white lady for picking up a package, and she took my pickup slip and went to the storage to find it for me. However, she began chatting with people there and laughed out loud for eight minutes and came back to tell me that she couldn't find it and had to check the storage on second floor. I said yes, then never saw her back again till fifteen minutes later, she brought back her lunch, a pie, and asked her coworker if she wants to take a bite. WTF? What is she doing? She went to take her break after promised me to find my package, and I had been waiting for almost 30mins. Therefore, I went to take my service number again and waited in line, then I asked someone else who worked there for this thing, and the staff went to find her, but couldn't find where she was. So the staff made a call, and asked the lady if she is still looking for my package, and the staff asked me: "sir, would you like to come on tomorrow? Because we can't find your package, or you can still wait for us to look for your package?" Damn, I had been here 40 mins for you guys to find my package, and she suggested to come the other day to Waste my time . And the pickup slip was still on her hand, so how the heck I was gonna be able to leave. Yes, so I waited additional 10 mins till the lady finally back and told me: "I'm sorry sir. I was looking for a wrong package, and your package was actually in first floor." xD, I spent my one hour pick up for a damn package. Oh btw, there is no seat, xD. read more

This particular post office is really on top of things: They know their stuff; they are rarely out of supplies, have EXCELLENT HOURS (for the customer), and have very efficient and awesome service (even during odd hours). Maybe I just had bad timing... 10:30 PM weeknight. Thought I would stop by on the way home from the Stop & Shop to buy a sheet of postcard stamps - Bad Idea. There we 10+ people waiting ahead of me, and my ticket gave me an estimated wait of 9 min. After 20 min I remembered I had ice cream melting in the car, so I left without my stamps, rather irritated. There were 6 employees present, but only 2 of 4 counters open, 1 guy was running around trying to get people to use the APC, and the other 3 were complaining about how under-staffed they were. read more

Please note: I come here at least once a week and have a wonderful experience -- the hours are fantastic and the service is usually swift and jolly. However, I am compelled to report this instance. On this cloudy day, I got a ticket at 12:01 (after letting someone go ahead of me). The ticket number was 85. My ticket predicted an approximate wait time of 9 minutes. After 10 minutes, I looked and was shocked to find that the number is still 85. Twenty people in line are grumbling, and you can hear irritable mumblings. There are two people at the counter; one is serving a family of five with passport photos. The other is checking in with a guy - looks to be a mailman - who is checking in five crates of envelopes. People have been asking to bring more people on the floor, to which the service person said that everyone has to wait in line. After a half hour, they finally brought in a third person. Essentially, there is just one person working because the other two are still talking to the same passport-family and six-crates-of-envelopes-guy. Forty minutes later, the passport family left...and now two of the service clerks have just taken a break... Ah, fifty minutes later, I am up. My transaction takes 45 seconds in total. I walk out and the clouds have parted to reveal the sun in a perfect metaphor for the experience. (Ps I normally love this location, but this was so crazy that I had to report this.) read more

If you need to get a package overseas in a time sensitive manner, look no further. This post office is located adjacent to the Mail processing facility for Boston so any packages that are priority are easily delivered through major ports and transport routes rather than slower delivery at town post offices far west of this facility. I had a gift that had to get sent overseas as quick as possible. Being that I am too poor to afford Priority Express or god forbid, UPS or Fedex they helped me get it out in a efficient manner. Staff here was helpful and the package itself managed to get to its destination country in a matter of a day and 1/2. Would recommend this location for international shipments to a huge extent. read more

I came in counter with one of the worst human beings I have ever met in my entire life. His name is Robinson he is a post office clerk at this location. I arrived very excited about the extended business hours to mail off my delicious baked goods to my clients during this pandemic. Upon arrival Robinson was very short & rude to me. Mind you I mail packages about every other day because of my small business so I know shipping protocol. He had a problem with me off the back as soon as I stood in line. I understood right away that he didn't appreciate women like me because of what I look like so I took it with a grain of salt & true. To get through the transaction as swiftly as possible. However his patience ran thin & he ripped the tracking information off my package and sent me to someone else. I hate to say it but as a black woman I knew this black man was going to be rude to me because typically that's how it goes. I am extremely disappointed that I had to come In contact with him & in the future I will no longer patronize this location. What an unreliable shipping facility! I paid extra to ship a package with priority mail to arrive at a certain time. The package is delayed several days from the date I was told. The tracking number doesn't show any details why it is delayed and where it is, just says "in transit, delayed"!! there is no price to the damage they caused for my business and missed deadline! read more
