This Staples has been my go-to for my Amazon package returns. It is conveniently located, right between my office (PO Square) and North Station. I've never waited in line for more than a few minutes and returns are quick and painless. While I have stayed downstairs at the return window, there is a whole upstairs part of the store that has supplies, etc. I appreciate being able to take care of my returns as part of my commute rather than running a separate errand when I get home. read more

After my second poor experience with customer service at this Staples location in 9 days, I have to advise anyone to go to Micro Center for any computer/electronics needs and, if you need office supplies, use Staples at Middleesex Avenue in Medford or at Alewife in Cambridge. Came to the 1 Washington Street store today after consulting their online website to make sure they carried cans of compressed air for dusting electronics. Was told by the elderly customer service rep at the sales counter that the item was in an unmarked cardboard box a few feet away in a corner, which I found contained canisters for Sodastream! So I went to the second floor where most merchandise is stocked, and surveilled every item in every isle twice before resorting to my last option for "service"; standing in line at the printing area to ask where my item might be located. Turns out they lock this item behind closed doors without any public notice of availability and price for customers who might be interested in purchasing it. I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for the request to be transmitted back upstairs to an unseen manager and the item brought downstairs to the printing area. I only needed a single can, but had to buy a 2 can pack for $25 as my only option short of having to buy a 4 can pack for even more money. I knew this location had a limited inventory compared with other Staples, but their available and knowledgeable customer service people here are in even shorter supply. read more

Just when I thought mega chains stopped caring, this Staples location changed my mind. I walked in and asked for a MacBook power adapter. Guy at checkout counter said "aisle 4". I went upstairs and was immediately greeted by another associate ready to help me find it -- she'd been radioed that I was coming and knew what I needed! Found several options. Left within 5 minutes. A much better experience than Amazon, and I didn't have to wait for a delivery. read more

I looked through Staples.com and then decided to head over to the store in the morning because I find browsing shelves and looking at labels to be easier than online. While they do have a decent selection, it seemed like the "cheapest" items that I had seen online weren't on the shelves. (Specifically? The $7 USB mouse and the $3 power strip.) It's not that the items on the shelves are priced higher than the prices online, it's that the less expensive items they sell online don't seem to be on the shelves. So my advice to you is that if you're looking for stuff from Staples and planning to get it at the lowest prices, buy it online and pick it up at the store. read more

I needed to print a train ticket from my email. My password is automatic and I don't remember it. Microsoft security prevented me from using the printing machine. I asked the desk person to help me, she was able to take it from my iPhone and do a permission print on the printer. She was so helpful. I am so grateful. read more

Do NOT. Use this space for coworking. I rented the room that was advertised as 30 person capacity with audio and video conferencing enabled, from 9am-1pm. Upon arrival at 9am, there was no one to check us in as promised. We had to wait 30-40 mins until someone came to let us in, cutting in to our paid for time. No one helped us set up the conferencing either, then we came to find out, it didnt work! We had to be put in a room for 6 people, when our team size was 8, that also didnt have conferencing ability (we have 3 virtual members). We lost over an hour of our time after this. We were put BACK in the original room after it was "fixed", but we still couldnt use conferencing. After an hour, screen share abilities stopped working again, so back to the 6 person room. Thank GOD they refunded me for the full time because we must have spent a total of 2 hours trying to fix things, and the room for "30 people" had 16 chairs. After all this, the representative tried to sell our manager on a membership here. Not the proper approach after all of this chaos, despite the refund to my card. Only redeeming quality of this space is the complimentary snacks and drinks, but if you need to book a space for a team meeting please look elsewhere. We could have just used a conference room at our office location outside of the city for less hassle, but wanted to have an offsite downtown. Not worth it! read more

If you can find any other place to go for what you need at this location I strongly recommend giving literally anyone your business over this store. I went to the "self service" printers/ copy machine. Once I reached one an associate helping a customer told me to "get out of the way". I could not believe it. I was not sure why I was being kicked from the machine I was about to use. I moved to the next available one stunned. While trying to figure out how to use the machine the customer service I overheard the associate give to the customer she was with was abhorrent. I understand it seemed like a stressful interaction for the both of them but the way she was speaking to him was terrible. Rude and with no patience. She was cutting him off and her tone was how an adult would scold a bad child As far as the "self service" went there is virtually no instruction on how to use these machines. So I was charged three times for trying to make one copy and each time was half not scanned. It was really intimidating to then ask for help after witnessing the service someone else was given. When I did request help it felt very rushed but I was refunded at least. Maybe it was the manager helping me. Not a great experience read more

I liked this store. Location is good! 2 floors. Self service printing and all kinds of usual Staples services are available. The 2nd floor has more office supplies and I saw lot of variety. People are nice and helpful. Decent prices. No public restrooms, if you are curious. read more

I was at store to exchange a cable and get other ones. As I was in line to pay for it, I had the cable I had bought earlier on in my pocket. James, who was helping another customer, yells in front of the other customer "what do you have in your pocket?". Maybe because I'm a foreign I was treated like a robber. When I confronted him about his approach, without an apology all I got was "I'm doing my job, I'm from loss prevention". Even if there was a suspicion of robbery, it should have being dealt in private not loudly in front of other people. Furthermore, why would I be in line if I was stealing something. After discovering I didn't have the correct form to register my car at the nearby RMV, I ran into the nearest Staples. The staff could tell where I was coming from due to my frantic demeanor. One star for every time they followed me around the store after I said I don't need help. They pace back and forth at on an uncomfortable note. The printing staff are not friendly, organized or professional. I tried to get a print job done there and although I was the only person there at 8 AM one of the staff kept ignoring my questions or walking away in the middle of a response to answer the phone and the other was on the computer. When some more people filled in to pick up orders they were either not complete or not the correct request. I used to come here all the time but I guess the staff changed and its such a downgrade. :( read more

A while back I called the store to see if they had a KVM switch. The man on the phone said they did and I told him I would be right over to buy it. When I get there they say it is online only. I was very annoyed. Then the other day, I need an internal or usb external dvd drive. They said it was online only. They continue to not stock themselves with basic computer needs items. I don't care what I can get online when I'm in the store I don't give a damn what is available online. Staples is the worst store for anything. I will not even attempt to find something at a Staples store in the future. It is safe to assume that they do not have what I need and things I'm looking for are not crazy hard to find items. Their prices are ridiculous and their selection is sad. They should close down all the store locations and sell off their inventory to Amazon. read more

My printer at work wouldn't connect to its WiFi to print a badge I needed for a conference, at 10:20 I sprinted into this staples in an utter panic. Luckily Chris at the print station offered to help me with the self serve printer and had me in and out in literally 3 minutes and I had just enough time to run and catch my 11am bus at south station to NYC. I'm writing this update--due to busy fall I wasn't able to stop by until a few weeks ago November 2019--I like to buy cleaning supplies there for both office/home, and also they had a good selection of giftcards and stationary supplies, calendars and the clearance wall was always worth a look--well big changes are coming--right now they are in construction. Apparently, they are converting the location into a Staples Studio--which will be a co-working space. I did speak to an employee she was nice, and also honest, she said that there will be a small amount of retail/niche stock that they carry but basically it's being converted over from a store to the co-working site in Jan. 2020. Apparently Staples corporate is also converting other locations in Cambridge, Burlington, etc. Over the years the service was spotty but they did have a good selection of products so I will miss going there for both items for home/work. read more

If I could give negative stars for this rating I would. When I initially called this store, I couldn't get through to the department because nobody was answering the phone so I had to call a second time to get through to somebody in a different department. I asked if they had laboratory notebooks in stock and the employee said they had an abundant in the store. I'm not sure why reviews are low for this place. I work in the area and have always had a good experience from the staff here. For example, today I went in to replace my headphones while on a call. My phones had just broken and I was holding my phone up to my ear with a package in my hand trying to brave the wind and rain. I normally talk hands-free so this was a major disruption. After trying another store and then finally vowing to hang up my call, I decided to try Staples. I was greeted at the door by 2 staffers. One staff asked if I wanted to ship the package in my hand (yes you can ship via UPS at Staples) but I decline as I actually just picked up the package from the post office. I asked for headphones and was pointed towards an aisle further down. Half listening, I started down one aisle when Jon mentioned those are bluetooth sets; let me show you where the headphones are. We walked over and there was a good selection, most were affordable ranging from $10-30. I wanted the old apple headphones but only saw the apple 7s phones :( Jon offered to check in the backroom (no luck) and then decided to check the upstairs stock area. Preparing for disappointment and looking for other alternatives while still on my call, Jon reappeared with the box in his hand. Yes! He handed me the box, I graciously thanked him and walked over to Tim at the register. Tim was equally helpful and pleasant even entertaining my rant about how other headphones compared. Overall this place has good selection with great customer service in a convenient location at reasonable prices. Great all around experience. Thanks Staples! I do not get why this has such a low rating! I have always had perfect success here for last minute office needs that may have not made the supply order. This is my company's go to location, due to where we are located. They are always helpful, have everything in stock and help us when we return our ink cartridges for credits on our account. Nothing crazy outstanding but the store serves it purpose for us. The location is better then the old Court Street shop as well. Other then dealing with annoying Postal Protestors *sigh* this is a great place for office needs! read more

Aesthetically a pretty nice store, they are lacking in customer service and the layout and placement of products is really odd. Some of the upstairs items should be downstairs and vice versa. Probably not the best for someone that has physical challenges or handicapped. read more

Decided to give the Staples nearest me a shot, despite having a negative printing experience (serious delays and poor quality) at the one close to my work. Unfortunately, this latest experience was just as bad - when placing my order for thank you cards after my baby shower I was told that the printer was getting fixed and they couldn't complete the job till 5pm the next day. They also told me they had the right size envelopes in stock to match the cards. I said that timeframe would be fine. In the afternoon the next day they called me to let me know the printer still wasn't fixed. I asked if I could pick up the thank you's from a different Staples and they said they couldn't transfer the order, but could have it ready for me later that night or early the next morning. I did not hear from them so I showed up the next day to pick up the order - it had been printed, but in the wrong color. They told me they would reprint them in the correct color, meanwhile I went to pick up the envelopes which they did not have (shouldn't they know what products they keep in stock?). They told me I would have to order them online. Had I known I would have ordered them 3 days ago so they would have arrived in time. I have yet to see if the thank you cards have been printed in the right color, but after these two experiences I'm not holding my breath. read more

I'm going to try and take my outraged mother and disgusted human being persona out of this equation for the moment, but bear with me because it won't be EASY... even with your kitschy red button standing by. Speaking strictly as a business person & PR specialist, in this age of social media transparency, how on earth does a manager of your chain, a retailer dependent on the Back-to-School business, tell 30 mostly college-age people .. in Boston, no less, the quintessential college town... that they can not occupy his 2-story store during a tornado warning unless they make a purchase. Did it occur to him that spending time in the store, even if it was strictly by necessity, might plant the seed for future purchases? Did he consider how the perception of good will plays into building consumer loyalty? Or did he really need 30 novelty pen sales at the register to help him make his day? This fool walked up to "refuges" from today's nearby Boston Calling Music Fest and insisted they buy something or hit the bricks. When my 20-year-old daughter politely told him, "but we were told to evacuate to nearby buildings... there's a tornado watch and lightening strikes," his humane, community-minded response was "I KNOW ... but that's the policy." Seriously? What's your policy when they step outside and get injured? My policy is to shop elsewhere and spread the word why... read more
