This review is for this location ONLY. It has been a hit or miss at this location for me but mostly a miss. I absolutely love Urbane Cafe but for whatever reason, the food here does not taste like it does at other locations it lacks flavor. I have also noticed that they tend to be skimpy with their ingredients, sometimes I get more bread than anything else. Whenever I do crave it I sometimes take a chance and come here hoping that the food will be good, that is not always the case. This use to be my go-to spot for lunch years back now I'd rather have lunch elsewhere. read more

I had a very large order (~30 people) for our company in different buildings and I was able to email the order to Manager Chris (he's a keeper) around 9am and needed it by 11:15 to serve lunch for everyone in our office staff. I ordered the Urbane Cobb. It looked good but the ingredients were pretty skimpy and it was pretty bland to me. The chicken was extremely dry and flavorless. The best part was the focaccia and I'm not typically a bread person. Although my food was disappointing, the employees were really nice and the restaurant was clean. A little disappointing to be honest. My best friend works at Urbane Cafe in the LA County and speaks great things about their service. I just moved to Ventura County this year and decided to try out Oxnard's Urbane Cafe location. The food is great. I have only ordered online for pickup, but when i get there, i'm not greeted. They just stare at me waiting if i'm going to walk to the register to order or walk to the pickup rack. My order was not on the pickup rack so i waited patiently at a table waiting for them to add more orders to the rack but nothing. I waited a good 10 minutes before going to the cashier since my order on the app said it was completed by then and she laughs and said they put it in the wrong rack (doordash). the employees were just standing there talking to each other and laughing. I get home just to find that i have a missing item in my order that i paid extra for. if they have time to talk and laugh, they have time to make sure every order is correct and placed on the correct rack. I never feel welcome when i go pick up. i just get stared at as im walking to the pickup rack like if im going to take someone else's order. Won't be returning to that location. read more

I just found out about this amazing restauarant. the food is to die for here! Everything abiut this restuarant experience was perfect. I came in and didnt know what to order. I let the pretty cashier lady Leslie know im not sure what to get and she was so nice and recommended the bbq tri tip and southwest chipotle sandwhich i would recommend those as well. The food isnt that expensive but its so healthy. Nothing but friendly service, pretty smiles, good prices, and great food. Im coming back here more often and bringing my gym friends when i can. Food is always made on time and of course delicious, however, every time I order a cookie it is almost raw and so soft to the point where I can't even take it out of the bag. It is UNFORTUNATE Ventura county is hogging such a delicious establishment. I traveled from far with my boyfriend only to find this gem on the road. Great flavor, healthy options. Now though the meal seemed slightly pricey, the flavor of both sandwich and salad was worth it. The bread was amazing (wish it would have been toasted a bit more) and I personally enjoyed the flavor of his green chili sandwich more than my socal sandwich - good thing we traded halves. If you're in the mood for a salad or a sandwich this is a decent option in the area. Basically the menu is exactly the same as far as ingredients between a salad or a sandwich. It's like protein, some kind of greens, some kind of sauce, some kind of cheese...and then decide if you want that all carbed out on their delicious bread or if you want to go lighter with just extra "greens". I'm always kind of skeptical when a 60+ year old white lady says she really really loves a place, especially when said place is located in a strip mall in the middle of what to me is BFE so since I wasn't expecting much I wound up leaving fairly satisfied. I wanted a salad but was split between the BBQ or Cilantro chicken salads. I went with the BBQ and Mike picked Cilantro chicken SANDWICH. It's so weird how these things are exactly interchangeable. Salad sandwich. Sandwich salad. I stole a bite of the sandwich and liked it better because of the ooey gooey cheesiness factor. My salad had like...cheddar cheese on it? Mike's mama's salad looked pretty fantastic with gorgonzola mmmmmm. Also, it was really perplexing to me that when I ordered the waitress asked as if by auto-reply if I wanted to get their balsamic dressing with that. I asked her if that goes well with the bbq chicken thinking maybe they have some super special orgasm-inducing balsamic dressing but uhmmm wtf when she answered "no...it doesn't really go with your salad because of the bbq sauce"....okayyyyyyy.... I wasn't really wow-ed by this place but since you get huge portions and it's pretty cheap (lunch for the 3 of us was around $20 total including a drink) I'd stop by again if in the area. Oh, and FYI if you sit outside on the patio be prepared to be accosted by random crazies such as meth head on a bike zooming around with a cracked tooth grin cackling to himself and about 3 or 4 ladies selling stickers...yeah...stickers. Not sure how it happened, but I've become a regular at Urbane! Their focaccia bread is made fresh and every sandwich I've tried (southwest chicken, tri-tip, cilantro chicken) is delicious! The side salad that comes with the sandwiches is one of my favorites, with mixed greens, mandarin oranges and feta cheese with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I guess I'm not a big fan despite all the hype. We've wanted to try one of these before but lines out the door always dissuaded us. Now I see that the ordering counter is just 3 feet inside the door so there is a line out the door if 3 people are in line. So not as popular as we thought. I had a bbq try tip sandwich and my wife got the bbq chicken. Tri tip is always risky at a restaurant and the bet didn't pay off here. The meat was stringy and fatty most want really edible. I really couldn't taste the meat anyway because the Cole slaw on top totally overpowers anything else in the sand which. It tasted like I was eating Cole slaw dressing between two pieces of bread. I'm not a big fan of the focaccia bread either. It reminded me more of the lower calorie sandwich rounds we eat at home instead of bread. My wife didn't have the Cole slaw on her sandwich and that made it very very dry. We both did like the side salad that comes with it. Price was high too. Over $21 for two sandwiches, one drink and one bag of chips. Honestly I think Jersey Mikes or similar is better. read more

This place is amazing! Tried it for the first time after checking out the Farmers Market and was definitely impressed! Great atmosphere and love the environment. Ordered a "Californian" sandwich which is included a side of mandarin salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The Californian sandwich included artichoke hearts, Jack cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and avocados. Delicious! I honestly only ate half of the sandwich at the restaurant and saved the other half for later. ReAlly delicious and lots of flavors! It was about $8 for the plate, but definitely worth it! Hard to mess up such classic flavors. A winner every time in my book. Protein Salad - I like the flavor profile enough to never put any dressing on it, though the balsamic vinaigrette tastes delicious in its own right. Consists of protein-rich foods such as garbanzos, beans, mozzarella & walnuts, w/ the option of chicken. My sister and I usually order these two plates and split them half and half. Using the Yelp iPhone app, I ordered my BLAT & side salad with Balsamic dressing through the online menu. It took me just enough time to drive from my office to the venue, roughly 10-15 minutes. What I had- grilled portebello mushroom Sammy with side salad and a cup o soup. Side salad was nice, with sides of mini orange slices and a sprinkling of feta, veggie soup was good too. The big issue was the portabello mushroom Sammie, it was doused with so much cheese and aioli, I think the calorie counter beats an in n out double double! After scraping off most of the cheese and sauce (sammy was still oozing sauce like a Carl's Jr commercial), I tasted the sandwich and the flavor of the mushroom was really good.... Yes, the atmosphere is "franchisey" and sterile but at least you'll have a good sandwich. I typically get the California vegetarian sandwich.
