Korean BBQ Wings
Danielle A.

Ive come here multiple times for a take out order and while ive only had the Korean bbq wings, I feel this place deserves 5 stars. The wings are amazing. Omg. Great texture and sauce. & the dipping sauce is even better. I can only imagine how the rest of the food tastes.

So yummy!!! I love the vibes here, it's really spacious and lighting was nice. They don't have a grand selection of juices but I got the orange juice jones and it was perfect! You tasted a hint of pineapple and orange and the aftertaste lingered. I also ordered the Mac n cheese with shiitake bacon, flavor was definitely something I've never had before but still, delicious. Ended the meal with dessert, the cake and mud pie were small, I enjoyed the mud pie more! Service was fast and they checked up on us a lot, loved it!

I used to be vegan and couldn't wait to try this restaurant. When I arrived I found parking on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted and sat at a table. The place was so well decorated. Imani and Jimmy were my servers and they were great. I had: Vodka Martini Luca Brasi Oshi Salmon Pasta Bangin' BLT Mississippi Mud Pie I loved the food here and that salmon tasted like the real deal! All in all I had a good experience!

I liked how much variety there was on the menu! We ended up trying the: - gochujang wings (8/10) - mushroom empanadas (6.5/10) - dew drops on my garden pizza (10/10) - golden era chick'un and waffles (6.5/10) - the steak sandwich, sorry I'm forgetting the name! (7/10) - the fries (10/10) Overall, I enjoyed the food. The ambiance of the place was also great, filled with pictures of influential people. The owner also emphasized this is a community space meant for people to come together, which I thought was really cool. The service itself was great which I also appreciated.

Amazing food here wow. We had the burrito bowl and plantain salad and it was so flavorful. The venue is a bit cramped for dancing and a band and to eat so that needs to be figured out. But def would come back!! Yum!

Lots of variety! They have a dedicated gluten free list on their menu which is amazing! The vibe and music is very laidback. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. If you're vegan and/or gluten-free, I definitely recommend trying this place out in Astoria. I really enjoyed their vegan ranch dressing with the buffalo bites. The burrito bowl, salad, and egg sandwich were all good, with the most flavorful being the burrito bowl! Would love for a gluten free sweet treat to be added to the menu. I also do miss the crab cakes they used to have!!

Since I'm not having any meats for lent, I was on a search for a vegan/vegetarian spot. I found this spot and it did not disappoint! I got a chance to order the Korean bbq wings and tried out the Sheldon burger. The wings were my ultimate fav! I was not too hungry so I just got the wings. The boyfriend got the Sheldon burger with fries. I tried a bit of it but it was a tad bit salty for me. Our server was really nice and checked up on us often. I'll plan to return to try out other things when I'm around the area :)

The best part of the day was having lunch with my main guy Ray. We've been to urban vegan roots before, but not during happy hour, we ordered a few things off the happy hour menu had a few adult beverages. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant., very artsy and creative. Service was quick and friendly. We did have a place to ourselves because it was early afternoon if you're into vegan food and you're in New York City by Long Island City give Urban Vegan Roots shot you won't be disappointed.

Wavy Gravy Chunk Steak Frites

Stumbled upon this place while visiting family. We were excited to try several dishes after browsing the menu online. Cool atmosphere with many entertainment legends on the wall, lots of graffiti and great tunes playing at all times. Our selections: Garlic Broccoli - hear me out, this isn't the stuff you grew up hating! Perfectly cooked with lots of flavor in each bite. Pickle Fries- love the concept of fries rather than chips or spears, I would recommend cutting these just slightly thinner so they crisp up well but a dish our son devoured. Korean BBQ Wings - Lots of great flavor, decent portion size and the seitan was not your typical dense texture. I would love to see these cut smaller so they remain a little crispy (sensing the theme here?) Bangin BLT - tempeh bacon and their housemade bread may as well be texas toast! My wife loved this one and I thought it was good, just a little too much "butter" on the toast. Wavy Gravy Steak Frites - gravy was nice and peppery, texture of the "steak" was crazy and seasoned well. I would order the gravy on the side otherwise the frites cant be salvaged unless you eat em fast Overall cool concept. As usual, vegan items tend to be on the pricey side, but this place had a vibe.

Mac n' Cheese (with tempeh bacon)

Ordered for delivery, it was heavenly. Consistency, flavor, everything was bangin. Excited to try more stuff from the menu in the future :)

The service was quick . The ambiance was so dope I loved it so much . The graffiti and walls are so cool . It's a nice place and the prices are also really good

Urban Vegan Roots is an establishment located in Astoria, Queens that serves 100% Plant-Based vegan cuisine. Urban Vegan Roots and Urban Vegan Kitchen in Manhattan are "Sister Restaurants," and I discovered that after having fabulous brunch at Urban Vegan Kitchen w/ two friends in April 2023. While visiting the website, I read about Urban Vegan Roots and knew that I had to visit. Fast Forward to May 2023 (lol)... myself and Natasha went to Urban Vegan Roots after attending the G&B YEE @ Tea & Milk a couple of blocks away. We were getting closer, and it started to rain, so enjoying our dishes in the restaurant while waiting for the rain to subside was a win-win situation. Urban Vegan Roots sits along a small strip of other eateries, including an Italian Restaurant, etc. It is a specious-enough yet quaint & cozy one floored place. Staff kindly greeted us and sat us immediately. The server was patient and knowledgeable in answering our menu questions. Inside of the establishment are colorful, vibrant pictures displayed as well as spray-paint mural-themed artwork, etc. Salt-N- Pepa, Queen Latifah, and other " feel good" hip-hop music played in the background. Yes, we sang and danced in our seats while eating. Both UVR & UVK play fantastic music. I ordered Fish Cakes w/ Brussel Slaw, Chili Aioli.& Dill. I also had the Mac "N" Cheese - Cashew Cheese Sauce, Bread Crumbs, Scallions (which contained nuts). Natasha ordered Potato Leek Soup w/ Scallions & Grilled Cheese. The Fish Cakes and Mac "N" Cheese were both flavorful, and the dishes were well-prepared. Natasha mentioned that she liked her food. We both had enough left over to take home. I would definitely order the same dishes again. Hours of Operation - Mon - Thurs. 9am-10pm Fri. - 9am - 11pm Sat. - 10am - 10pm Website - www.urbanveganroits.com Instagram- - @urbanveganroots Urban Vegan Roots also has a calendar of events that include DJ Nights, Health Happy Hours, Sol Food Sundays w/ love DJ Sets / Yoga & Brunch, "Open Mic Format" Every Wednesday Evening in which one can bring products to donate to the Astoria Food Pantry. You can also contact Urban Vegan Roots via email at urbanveganroots@gmail.com if you are interested in renting their space or if you want to host an event. Make reservations via Resy. Last but not least, I had a wonderful discussion w/ the Owner / Co-Owner about how Urban Vegan Roots arose from humble beginnings and the inspiration behind the establishment. He is a very intelligent individual. I look forward to returning and ordering the same as well as other marvelous dishes.

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites (we ate a few before taking the photo)
Gregg R.

Met up with a cousin for dinner here, neither of us have been here before. The atmosphere was really interesting with the graffiti and pictures on the wall. They have a live band playing which includes 2 gentleman playing the saxophone and keyboard. There were 2 women occasionally singing with them. It was a mix of jazz and speech poetry, odd but interesting. We ordered the Buffalo cauliflower and the warrior sandwich. The cauliflower was okay. It had a very mild level of heat. The outside was crunchy but the cauliflower was a bit too raw for my cousin. We enjoyed them but it wasn't a wow. The sandwich had sautéed mushrooms and peppers with pesto on homemade bread. We both enjoyed the sandwich but we thought it was something we could make ourselves at home. The toasted bread was very good though. We ordered a side of fries as well. They were thick cut and cooked very well. They had a little too much pepper on them but if you like your fries to be spicy and heavily seasoned you would really enjoy them. Today was taco Tuesday so they had a special of 2 tacos for $2. The server was quick and always had a smile. Overall I enjoyed dinner as I don't typically go to vegan restaurants. I feel this would be a good lunch spot if you're vegan or looking to try something different.

The restaurant felt homey and I could tell there were many regulars and other return visitors, for good reason! Ordered: Masala Chai ($4.50)- this tasted authentic, was nicely spiced, and wasn't too sweet. I only wish the cup was bigger. Steamed momo ($12+)- I like how you have the option to mix and match. We ordered the mixed vegetable and the oyster mushroom and surprisingly I much preferred the oyster mushroom variety. The mixed vegetable momo tasted more earthy to me. Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! I've been thinking about this meal ever since I left the restaurant. You don't want to skip this place.

It can be a little confusing to find since it's a stand inside the market, not a separate store front. They carry a pretty wide variety of Asian flavor-inspired breads, pastries, cakes and cookies, including buns and some more dessert-type items. I checked out Progreso for an event this past weekend and ended up buying a few items to go: - matcha marble sponge cake $4.49: was fluffy, light and moist, good flavor of matcha and a light schmear of whipped cream in the middle. Would get this again! - taro cream puff $6.50: this was taro paste (? not sure if that's fully accurate though it felt more consistency of soft whipped taro than a traditional pastry cream) with whipped cream on top sandwiched by what I believe was choux pastry with craquelin. I think maybe because the this was sitting chilled/refrigerated for a while the top craquelin layer wasn't quite crispy anymore, though it looked nice. Personally it was a bit too much regular whipped cream, would've preferred more of a taro pastry cream. - mango pudding with fresh mango $6.50 mango flavor in the pudding was light though it was a nice tease of flavor. The texture was on the firmer side for puddings. The mangos were a bit oxidized though tasted ok, maybe glaze them or do something to maintain the color? It's definitely a cozy and popular café--mostly cozy because of the size. Seating is limited, but the interior design is clean, minimal, and uncluttered, which makes the space feel calm and welcoming despite the steady stream of customers coming in and out while we were there. Food-wise, everything impressed us. I ordered the pistachio croissant, while my companions got the gochujang hot chicken sandwich and the breakfast sandwich. The chicken sandwich was especially memorable--unique, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. My pistachio croissant was also great; personally, I might have preferred a little less pistachio cream or a more textured filling like almond paste, but that's purely a preference. It was still excellent. The service really stood out. They were quick, friendly, and incredibly accommodating--one of my companions accidentally dropped their sandwich, and the staff replaced it free of charge without hesitation. That kind of kindness goes a long way. The price point is amazing for the quality of food you're getting, and we felt completely comfortable lingering for several hours. Throughout our stay, there was a consistent flow of customers, which says a lot. Me and my girl was looking for a coffee shop that was laptop friendly and closed late since we came after work. I was a bit disappointed that they did not serve any alcoholic beverages as I saw a lot of good reviews on that portion. We came, we sat down on a Saturday night. There was only one person at the front and it seemed she was also managing the serving part so it did get pretty hectic at some point. We decided to order the Budae Jigae (Hot Pot), there is no way to alter the spicy level so for those who love spicy spicy, this is for you. Me and my friend was really disturbed by the fact that we were treated some type of way. Maybe it's because we weren't Korean or? Service was slow asf. It took a really long time for them to serve me my iced strawberry matcha drink. And even longer for the food. It was also hard to tag her down, and she seemed pretty annoyed that we had to ask her for multiple items. We were a party of 2 and she only gave us one set of items. I went again by myself the next day to see if it was better service and it was pretty packed. There was actually 3-4 people at the front but even then it was so hard to get someone to take my order, ask for napkins, for the check, etc. While there was no time limit on Saturday, there was a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes on Sunday. would I go again? Everyone was just so genuine and friendly to be around. Came here to the Astoria location during their 11th year anniversary promotion yesterday. First 100 customers in line would receive a limited-edition sippy glass tumbler with attached boba straw & removable lid cover with his/her in-store purchase. They accept both cash and debit/credit card. The line was effectively managed with no line cutters, no arguing, and nothing crazy going on. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience. Lots of people have still showed up despite the really cold weather & down-pouring. Nothing gonna stop me from getting the cute glassware. Store opened and promotion started at 12:05pm. Everyone just ordered one by one towards the front when it was his/her turn. The Vietnamese Cloud Coffee was $7.52 (after tax). Hot/iced + medium/large drinks have different set of prices btw. Staff then handed me the glassware & a free sampler bowl of their soon-to-launch either lemongrass chicken/pork rice bowl after accepting payment. Portion was definitely more on the generous side to say the least. Devoured the sampler bowl in 15 mins because I was hungry & aside from keeping the rain not getting into the food. Flavorful lemongrass chicken + appetizing pickled carrot + fresh, crunchy sliced cucumber laid on a blanket of fluffy white rice. All the ingredients went well together. This is something I would definitely buy for lunch/dinner if this item ever gets added to the menu in the future. I ordered a hot Vietnamese Cloud Coffee, a new drink on the menu. My first time actually ordering a hot drink from Tea & Milk. Usually go for the iced drinks but I was feeling quite cold. So, I needed something hot to hold in my hands. Vietnamese Cloud Coffee - Cà Phê Trứng (Egg Coffee) is made with egg yolks + Vietnamese coffee powder. Lastly, it's lightly sweetened with condensed milk to give off an all-around creamy texture and taste similar to tiramisu. Something created with such simple ingredients yet could feel so soothing at the same time. A hot coffee-based drink on a cold, rainy day is like a snuggly hug. Staff called out your name when it was ready for pickup. Love starting my day off with the strong flavor of Vietnamese coffee! By far, this might actually be the best tasting Vietnamese coffee I have had in all my years. And, I'm usually not a coffee person either. Didn't taste watered down and/or heavily sweetened at all. Everything's just right. Definitely would be going back next time for other coffee/fruit tea drinks.
