Urban Stack is, for me, a downtown Chattanooga go-to. Thankfully, over the past 5 years that I've been visiting CHA for business, Urban Stack has always been there to greet me and to sweep me off my feet. Located in a very convenient and walkable downtown location (especially if you're staying at The Chattanoogan or other downtown hotels), Urban Stack has an industrial-chic vibe, great service, an awesome beer and cocktail selection, and most of all, out-of-this-world burgers. They're a local-conscious business and use locally-grown items when possible, and their building is LEED certified! Burger prices range from $8 to $12, and include a wide variety of patty choices, from all-American grass-fed or Kobe-style Wagyu beef, to ground turkey, to ground lamb, to chicken, to vegan-friendly mushroom or veggie patties. All can be served here! I highly recommend that you go with their expertly-built choices. If you're a gourmet burger virgin or not generally adventurous with your burgers, start from their "Classics" menu, where you'll find a huge selection of not-so-basic beef-based burgers. I am constantly torn between the Hamburguesa Mamacita, with is chorizo, avocado, jalapeno, and fiesta cheese, and the New Mexico Green Chili Cheeseburger, with its awesome roasted green chilis. Not feeling that adventurous? Stick with the Big Cheese or the Bacon Cheeseburger, or maybe the Big Mike if you need two patties! If you want to venture into some of Urban's custom creations that feature other meats and non-meats, look to their "Speciality Stacks," where you'll find such classics as the Hercules for the Greek-influenced lamb burger magic, or the Jive Turkey with spiced ground turkey and gouda. The vegan-friendly Vegan on Shrooms is awesome and has a killer mayo sauce, and the vegetarian-friendly Southewestern Veggie has that awesome fiesta cheese on top of the spicy veggie patty. Avoiding bread or gluten-sensitive? Just get any of the above without the bun or have them throw it on top of some lettuce for a killer-good salad! Drinks-wise, they won't leave you hanging. They have 20 rotating beers on draft, along with some classics in bottles. I'm not a whiskey fan, but if whiskey wets your whistle, they offer around 100 whiskeys! For me, I prefer their VERY well-priced specialty cocktails, each no more than $10, and all pack a strong liquor punch, but taste as though they're carefully crafted by a mixologist rather than just any old bartender. Remember what I said about not being a whiskey fan? True. However, when it's carefully blended with other things, I love it - and the majority of their craft cocktails are bourbon/whiskey based. I recommend the Orange Crush, with its delightful St Germain and bitters on top of Rebel Yell bourbon, or just do yourself a favor and order your own $15 pitcher of High Tea, which is homemade and spiked with bourbon. Whatever you choose here - a burger night, a whiskey night - you'll have a good time. There are large tables, small tables, a good-sized bar perfect for imbibing and socializing, and on top of that, the service is great. They've never had an issue splitting checks for our small groups or accommodating customer burger requests. Oh, and get the nachos. They're awesome. read more
