I was really impressed with the level of customer service! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Kara-Beth, who explained the store and the concept to me. It is owned by the same company that owns Wayfair and all the furniture in the store can be delivered to you in a matter of days. Some selections arrive as whole pieces, some are self assembly a la IKEA and you can also request a service that they have in partnership with Angie's (formerly Angie's List) where you can request assembly at the time of delivery. They have a nice selection of mostly mid-century looking and some more modern pieces including a lot of chairs and a few sofas. The pieces are definitely a step up from IKEA in appearance, but not as nice as West Elm, IMO. Most of the chairs I was eyeing are in the $300-$400 range and they had a sale going at the time I visited where there was an extra 15% off. What really impressed me more than the furniture was the thoughtful and personalized service. When I explained where I was looking to set up the chairs I was considering, Kara-Beth explained that it might be wise to consider swivel chairs so that people sitting side by side could orientate to themselves to face each other more comfortably during conversations. I never would have thought to consider it! What a great suggestion. I will definitely consider this store for future furniture purchases and it's so nice to know they can deliver quickly as we had to wait quite a long time to get a sofa from West Elm during peak COVID times.

I called for information on Hunter Douglas shades and had a good talk with a woman here, after which we made an appointment for her and a technical person to come by the house a few days later to discuss details about how the mechanized shades work, and look at colors and fabrics.. About five minutes before the expected arrival that day I had a message saying "we" are running late but "we" expect to be there within 15 minutes. About 30 min later though, the doorbell rang and a man stood there. He did not introduce himself but his shirt was labeled "Hunter Douglas". I asked where the design person was with whom I had spoken and who had sent me that message. He didn't know. He came in and I asked if we should wait for her. He didn't know. No attempt to wear a mask or ask if I preferred he do so, and as he walked into the living room I saw he was wearing dirty tennis shoes as he walked on our Oriental carpet--no attempt on his part to remove or cover them. He was very terse (I could not tell if he was shy or upset about coming alone) but did the measuring. I asked what was going on, as I was expecting a designer to come with color books, fabric etc. He offered he had a color book in his car and could go get it, but I had expected to interact with a designer. He was in and out within five minutes. I called the shop, and another employee explained my contact was with a customer, and then, most oddly, proceded to explain to me what this other customer was asking about and was going to order. I stopped her as I wasn't interested at all in another person's order, said I had had a message that "we" were coming and who was this solo quiet man who turned up without ever giving his name even. I asked for my contact to call me back but was told they close at 2p and she would be leaving (heaven forbid they return a call past 2p apparently). I got the email address and sent off an email saying I found this all very unprofessional. I very well could understand running late with a client, but then why not call to say that and ask if we could re-schedule? But sending out this man alone, an employee who clearly was not at his best when speaking directly with customers and who didn't know what was going on even with his own workmate, was unacceptable. She had my email and phone number, but now five days later still no response. Very unprofessional and apparently don't like being called on it! The whole effect was very disorganized and unprofessional.

And having read some of the earlier reviews, I was prepared for this place to sell $200 scarves and candles. That being said, Nest does indeed sell high-end merch like jewelry. It would not be out of place in the South End. The walls were full of art from a local photographer that was amazing, but I don't have $325 to drop on a 24 x 8 inch panel right now. It's definitely one of the best-smelling stores I have ever been to, but the most expensive candle was $48, not two bills. However, there was a pretty sizeable selection of "reasonably priced" items, like $24 scarves, wine racks on sale, little foodstuff items, hair accessories. I ended up picking up two $12 leather-and-studded headbands which were cool. It's definitely the kind of place where you're either shopping for yourself or a woman whose taste you know really, really well. Because you're dealing with a home store with an independently-curated selection of stuff, the gifts aren't safely generic like Pottery Barn or Williams-Sonoma--I hope that makes sense. I really have a bias against indifferent customer service. So the only serious ding was that the woman behind the counter basically did not acknowledge or speak to me until I asked if I could put the headbands at the register while I shopped some more--she was sweet as could be and chatty after that. There was only one other customer in the store, who also got ignored until she made a purchase. I don't like feeling like I have to pay to get a hello out of someone. But I'll definitely be back again sometime the next time I'm in the nabe.
