Been here a few times, I like this place. Service is good, selection is good. They have a lot of nice TV's scattered around. A pretty nice bar top with a good amount of stools and a good amount of pub tables to sit at. They have an "outside" inside area that is air conditioned with a pool table and a few arcade games if you're into that. Nice thing is you can smoke out there, and they also have an all outside area with 2-3 picnic tables that you can sit and smoke at. Parking can be a little tough with the small parking lot, but there are usually a few places across or on adjoining, streets. Good laid back crowd, gets crowded when the USA (or any other important) teams are playing soccer. No food to mention, chips maybe? But there is a good taqueria next door and you can bring in whatever food you want from wherever. Prices are good, friendly service, and crowd. As a soccer fan, I wanted to love this place. It's a dive but I love a good dive. They have a good beer selection, and tons of TVs for sports. Also the taco place next door is really good and will bring you your food inside the bar after you order. It's not the kind of place to hang around for long in, just to have a beer and watch a game. The patio has a pool table and a couple of arcade games. If you're a fan of Premier League football, and specifically Tottenham Hotspur, which appears to have a supporters' club here, this is your spot. However, the night I came was the night of a pretty big MLS match. I know MLS isn't as beloved compared to the European leagues, but I figured if anywhere was showing it, this place was. Unfortunately, they had dedicated a single tv to the game, sound off, with every other tv and projector and speaker in the place showing a UFC fight. I get that this is also a general sports bar and some of the regulars wanted to watch UFC, but more people came and left disappointed because the only soccer bar in the area wasn't showing the soccer game. As a result, the only people in there were the few regulars and a couple of holdouts who could watch the match silently, when it could have been a busy night had all the soccer fans stayed. Eventually the manager had enough people ask for the sound to be turned on for the game that he turned it on on the patio, but on Telemundo, in Spanish. I'll definitely come back to watch a premier league match or another big European derby sometime, it probably fills up the bar easily with their early start times, but know that it's maybe not the best place for fans of the domestic league. read more

Upper90 is the place I go to catch all the soccer matches I'm interested in seeing. They have watch parties all the time for EPL, champions league, and World Cup. The atmosphere is terrific and the servers behind the bar are eager to make sure you are hydrated with whatever you need. Adult beverages or not. This bar used to be a fun spot, but it has really went down hill the past couple years. Not sure what management is doing, but every time I go in it seems like there is a new bartender that is somehow less friendly and experienced than the last. This place has a ton of potential so it's rather unfortunate but they just can't seem to hang on to any decent bartenders like every other bar on Magnolia can. This is the closest bar to my house but I will certainly walk a bit farther to go somewhere where I'll see friendly familiar faces. Clearly bad management these past few years. read more

The one armed half Cherokee bartender is a blast and isn't afraid to put a unscrupulous poser in their place. She doesn't like people bringing her blankets for obvious reasons, however it is always fun to watch when someone does! This is a fun bar with lots of COLOR tv's and integrated bathrooms. First impression not good. Small room, a little dark but at least smoke is gone. I like the tv's but all tv's were turned down and the only thing I could only hear was the female bartender and friends at bar cussing up a storm and horsing around. At least let me hear the games to drown out conversations. Local Beers were a proved about average $5 for a 12oz. Group hanging outside smoking. No server available so you have to get up and order another beer or maybe they just didn't want to come to me. I left after one drink. More of a place for 20 somethings to gather. Not really my style i guess, maybe if I could hear my rangers play some ball I would go back. Maybe happy hour would've been better or a better crowd (I did provide a pic of specials for you). read more

Upper90 stands out among the crowds in the Magnolia neighborhood. I have been here a few times and I have always enjoyed myself. It is basically a nicer version of a typical smoky sports bar, but they don't allow smoking so it's wonderful! My last visit was on a Sunday afternoon to watch the Steelers and Jaguars play one another. They have a ton of TVs and had additional sporting events on for those who were wanting to watch something else. It was not too crowded which was nice and we never had to wait for our drinks. The bartender was incredibly friendly too and for $4 for a well drink, I can't complain. The tables are a little wobbly so I should forewarn that if you are clumsy you have the potential to spill a drink or two. They do not have any food, BUT they allow for you to order food and their is a great restaurant next door called Tina's Cocina's. Definitely check this place out during sporting events because it is a really nice, chill, location compared to a lot of the other venues in this area. read more

Always a familiar face at the bar. The bartenders are well known in the neighborhood and happy to serve you. You can order food from Tina's next door if you're not already full from free nachos (M-F 3-7pm). They also have a new bar menu featuring sandwiches, fries, mozzarella sticks, etc. There are more TV's in this small space than you can believe. They have the NFL and full college football package so you can watch whichever team your heart desires. The bar is technically a soccer bar so it isn't unusual for them to open early for big matches. Although a sports bar doesn't seem like a a good fit on Magnolia, U90 still has fairmount flair meaning it's not full of rambunctious frat boys screaming into their jäger bombs. Service industry and hospital discounts are always a plus! Not to mention M-F they have a power hour from 4-5. ALL DRINKS HALF OFF! Wednesdays the special goes all night. Went there the weekend the place opened. Pretty cool place, it's a good bar to go to if you just want to watch a game and drink anything but craft lol. Not much variety on beer to be honest, and they didn't have draft but bottles and cans only. Does have a lot of TVs though! and even the restrooms have TV's so you can't say you didn't see a catch or see that knockout lol. But yea, its a new bar so I wont be too critical, with time I can see this place improving lots more. As always, supporting the local economy is all it should be about. read more

Went to watch NFC playoff game both me and my wife are Dr's who live in neighborhood. Short guy behind bar confronted us when we didn't leave a tip on credit card. We typically pay cash for tips. Said "is there a problem with service" I said no we tip at the end in cash. Freakey! These guys have no place in our Ryan Place which we have been members of since 1995. I WON'T BE BE BACK! I came in for drinks. Basic drinks are great. I went to play pac man and pin ball. Pac man was sticky and very hard to play. Pin ball just ate my money. I explained to the bartender. He told me "um, sorry, I can call the company next month". I don't really care, but a patron offered me money to play. The bartender, he did not. Why did he have to be a dick about it? I'd say this is a pretty good little spot just to "chill" and catch whatever game you want to see and have a drink. If you're looking for a big crowd and a rowdy party atmosphere, this probably isn't a good choice. Gonna go out on a limb and say that this quaint little watering hole could have the largest ratio of TV screen square footage to floor space square footage in the area. The whole joint is probably about 40' by 40', with one wall featuring a projection screen about 12' x 6', and 48" or 50" TVs end to end on the other walls. Blue-purple accent lighting under the bar counters gives it a cool look. Didn't peruse the beverage selection long enough to contribute a lot there, but enjoyed a tasty Cedar creek IPA on tap. I like Upper 90. It's a pretty okay place to hang out when you just want to sit for a bit and get slightly drunk, maybe run into some cool people along the way. I used to frequent the joint, but then the crowd started to thin out and it just seemed kind of empty. Don't know why that is, maybe I was just showing up on random days where there weren't many folks there. I can say, though, that when there are more than just a couple of other patrons, you can have some really random and fun conversations with happy strangers. I end up talking to someone pretty much every time I go, but the most recent time was kind of a dud because the bartender wasn't all that interesting, or all that great at tending bar (poor baby, I can't even remember his name). He wasn't the friendliest, either. He wasn't rude, just...kind of there. Very blah. On top of having drinks that aren't as good as what I'm used to, there was this weird drunk guy who kept trying to finesse me into buying him another drink that he certainly didn't need, and wasn't ever going to get. That isn't Upper 90's fault, or that one bartender, but yeah...strange night, that one. Oh yeah, and they don't have food, but they'll sell you a bag of Doritos for a dollar if you get too drunk and need some salt. Lol read more

I was looking for a low key bar to have a nooner to kick start my liver after a 48 hour bender with my dear friend and confidant, TV's Patrick Duffy. Pat, or Duff Daddy as his friends call him, was taken aback by the amount of alcohol available at Upper 90. Right in the middle of P. Duffy's classic anecdote about when he and Sasha Mitchell (Cody from Step by Step) busted out of a Tijuana jail using only a rubber fist and a can of Fresca the bartender had the audacity to come to the table and ask if we wanted "another cocktail!" Obviously offended at the nerve of the bartender to insinuate that he was some sort of boozehound, Dufflupagus roundhouse kicked the words right out of her mouth and wiped the condescending look off her face. After the fallout of the situation, as we were waiting for world renowned artist Robert Ross, to pay our bail with his happy little tree money, The Duff turned to me with tears of joy in his deep blue eyes and said, "Upper 90 has a free nacho bar during the week." I think about those words often, and sometimes when I'm at my lowest of lows, I remember that when life unleashes all hell on you and you think you can't make it til the dawn, there is always going to be free nachos at Upper 90. read more

Beware the red haired bartender high as can be that tells you drinks are "half off" without explaining the entire situation. We even asked her, what's half off? - "Everything but most scotches. It'll be $2.50, $2.75, $3.00 max for bourbon". What a COMPLETE lie. 100% false. she charged my whole group full price then called me a liar in front of the whole bar and said my friends had "no problem" with their tabs. Ok I thought. So I signed my $47 tab with a 20%+ tip thinking I misunderstood. I went outside to report my findings to my friends who had already closed their tabs and they were pissed! We went back inside to get an explanation. What a hostile situation that was! I don't want to be comped or made to feel like an idiot by the manager. I want to pay the price myself and my 5 friends were quoted- which was the drink "special" that kept us from going to a different bar. I'm a former bar owner and before that bartended for 10 years. I know more than anyone else bad reviews from drunken misunderstandings. But I can honestly say that the bartender at Upper90 Weds 9/17/16 was the most dishonest and deliberately deceitful person I've ever encountered. Shame on you. From one industry person to another you should never, ever, ever be allowed to work behind a bar again. read more
