LOVED this place. It's like the little bar you go to where half of the people are regulars. It was quiet and doesn't look like a bar that you would be served one of the best lemon drop martinis you ever had, yet there we were. If you are staying at the Omni or near the convention center (this place is right behind it) stop by, we had a great time and great conversation with the bartender and I wish I had caught his name. The best thing I could say about this place is that they had Guinness on tap, and were within walking distance of restaurants. Went a few weeks ago and was extremely disappointed. We were a party of two, and the only patrons in the place. The bartender was too interested in texting and watching Harry Potter that she never checked in on us/asked if we needed anything. A guy came in yelling and apparently works at the bar. He acknowledged us slightly more than the woman, but they were more occupied in gossiping with one another than doing anything else (i.e., their job). read more

Malone's Pub is exactly what you'd want, need, and expect a pub to be. Super casual with no frills or fancy light fixtures or modern furniture; comfortable and laid back. Think low lighting, a couple pool tables, a big wooden bar, a few TVs, a few neon signs, and a low-key crowd. The staff is warm and casual. It's not really a place for on-trend artsy craft cocktails, but they make the classics well and the pours are strong. Great prices too! I like the true red painted brick out front and their cute little patio. It's just a couple tables! It feels very neighborhood-y and long-time-local-y here at Malone's, a trait that makes Fort Worth my favorite. When you want a cocktail without swapping out of your Dallas Stars gear, all those south downtown steakhouse options aren't going to cut it. A work colleague mentioned he was headed to his favorite after-work drinking spot, Malone's Pub, and I tagged along due to both geographical convenience and zero motivation to change my t-shirt. I'd been there before, albeit with a multi-year gap between visits. Malone's added a pleasant patio on its Calhoun Street entrance before the smoking ban went into effect. I walked past the empty outdoor tables and inside the very dimly lit shotgun-style space. Surprisingly, every seat at the rail but one was already taken by 5pm, which is a good sign for a joint that doesn't serve food. What was different from my last sojourn to Malone's was the intense smokiness, and a non-internet-connected music system. The bartender said the original jukebox broke a few times, and eventually their vendor made them switch to the digital version. Anyone who has been trapped in a bar near a drunk dude with $20 in his hand and a thing for Staind should pour one out for the loss of the vintage machine that was always loaded with local CDs and tunes. Other than those insignificant changes, Malone's Pub remains a damn decent place to post up for a no-frills drink that won't break the bank and the staff is no nonsense in the best sort of way. read more

Great little local bar! Came in with friends and I volunteer to go get the first round: two vodka-cranberry, two vodka-tonics and one cosmo! OMG, i didn't think about that, I have to go order a Cosmo from a Texas bartender. I knew what was coming. So I order the drinks in that order and the bartender is saying OK, OK OK until I get to the cosmo and sure as hell, he lets me have it, "wow, what". The guy sitting on the stool next to me just turns his head and looks at me. I shrug my shoulders and say "you can take the girl out of NY but you cant take NY out of the girl". The both laugh and an incident is adverted. Anyways, all the drinks with tip for under $30. I don't think there is food here because some of the locals had Taco Bell, which is post alcohol food; but she was young. All the drinks were good and the clientele were friendly. This is a pub's pub. A dimly lit, the cracked leather barstools are filled with neighborhood regulars, and the charming bartender welcomes people with a smile. It's definitely a pub, no questions about it. All it's missing is a grandfathered-in smoking indoors policy. The outside is just as charming as the inside. There's a bright blue door that matches the vintage sign. They have a small patio that is a nice thought, but it doesn't seem too comfortable. I think they've included it more to have one than anything. The beers are pretty cheap and they have a couple options for snacks, too. I always appreciate something salty to munch on with my binge drinking. It's the little details that makes this place so unique. I'm not sure if people go here, or they just stumble upon it, but either way, I'd recommend it. read more

I would have never know the exact location of this bar without the invitation of Yelp friends. It's a nice bar to watch big games and catch up with friends. Pardon the semi-broken record routine, but if you've ever spent any time going out in a city where there's a non-smoking policy indoors, you'll really come to appreciate it. At least I have, and it's been a bit of an adjustment to coming home smoggy after a night out here. Enter my latest stop off at Malone's Pub, a terrific neighborhood-style bar that has seen the future (so to speak), and pushed ahead with a non-smoking policy in advance of potential changes down the line by the city. And truth be told, the non-smoking thing wouldn't amount to much if Malone's didn't already have a cool thing going on, which they do. The night I dropped in, the room was teeming with regulars from stem to stern, all seemingly engaged in occasionally uproarious conversation, with bar staff staged as partners in crime. If my visit's any indication, it's a happy place, this Malone's, and not only have they carved out a unique and welcoming spot in the city, but they're planning on being here a good long while yet. I love this bar, but sadly, have never given it a full review. So here goes.... Malones is a total locals bar, with a very warm regard for tourists and visitors. My wife and i stumbled upon this place a year ago, and have been faithful ever since. The bar is simple, yet lovely place to hang, with either a group, your boo, or by yourself. The owner and bartenders are really cool to talk to. They will chat you up if you choose to talk, or leave you be if thats your desire. The place is not big, not small, just right. Jukebox has a very unique selection from Frank Sinatra to Megadeath. The prices are sweet, good specials, and I have never seen a problem in there. I asked Velton (best bartender ever) if there are ever any fights, and he said no, we stop trouble at the door. Its a nice safe place to enjoy a beverage, shoot the breeze ,and totally chill.... This is one of my favorite spots in Fort Worth for when I get off work. As a member of the service industry, this is almost a haven for all of us. Its hard to walk in and not see others from around the restaurants in the area. Suffice to say, its kinda like a home for all of us. Firstly, they really cater to the regulars. We are polled along with everyone else in the industry as to what music to put on the jukebox. No matter how odd or obscure, they have an awesome, personal blend of music to experience while unwinding and in my eyes, hands down the best music opportunity and jukebox in Fort Worth. Secondly is the beer selection. A variety of the common macrobrews are on tap, but they have an obscenely well put together selection of bottled brews. It doesn't hurt that the bartenders know and understand the selection very well and can make near perfect recommendations time and time again. Thirdly, the bartenders... Velton is a hands down favorite. Knowledgeable and friendly, his assistance has always been appreciated and his bartending personality is what everyone could hope for after a tough night of work. Finally, pool tables and dart boards mean that you can keep busy if the poured drinks don't keep your attention. In the long run, Malone's is a great late night spot to hang out and relax when you don't want to be around the 'scene' of Fort Worth and want more the opportunity to unwind comfortably. read more

The clientele this establishment attracts is typical middle class individuals. They have a few pool tables and a dart board. They broadcast ESPN on their tv's. Malone's was one of those places I never had any intention of going into. Not sure I knew the name of the place before I went in, although I did know there was a bar here. It's on the outer part of the south side of downtown, and not much else is down here, except a couple of other places I also had no real interest in. However...couple people wanted to have a drink, and it was the chosen location. I expected on walking in to find a dingy, old, worn out joint, but was really surprised. Inside is nice, clean, simple. Furniture is nothing fancy, but it's in good shape and looks taken care of. Carpet looks good, clean. Honestly, I think the place is pretty nice. Long bar, tables in front. Several TV's along the back bar, small but nice patio out front. Service was good, nice beer selection, the usual liquor choices. It's a good crowd, quiet, tame, no crazy shooter frat rats, no worn out or over served citizens looking for a place to hang out until thrown out. No loud jukebox spewing out drum beat crap or anything. Everyone seemed extremely....normal. I like this place, I'm thinkin' I might even stop in here on my own and lonesome from time to time. My beer was a little cheaper than normal, and that's even better. Lots of lot parking behind the place, due to the proximity to the convention center. Kinda deserted, so keep an eye out at night maybe, but Fort Worth doesn't really seem to have a problem with troublemakers downtown for the most part. How this place hasn't hit my radar until now, I don't know. But, better late than never. It's the best little "neighborhood" type bar anyone could ask for. It's so refreshing to walk in and not be hit in the face with a cloud of stale nicotine! But, if you are a smoker, you can still do your thing on the outside patio. Ed is the owner and greeted us on our first visit. His nearly 20 years of success in the business shows by his friendly, unassuming nature. He's a quality guy and his drinks are good, reasonably priced, and to the point! There's no trendy, fru-fru here and that's fine with me. I ordered a vodka/tonic and it was perfect. When Ed asked if I wanted another, he remembered my name! Who does that anymore? You can buy chips, etc., to snack on, but if you want anything heavier, they have a list of places you can order from and have delivered straight to the bar. Parking is no problem with ample spaces in front and an entire lot out back. Visit this little diamond in the rough soon. They won't disappoint. I love this place and I plan to be a regular in no time! UPDATE: There's a law school up the street. If the students there decide to show up, you won't find a seat and it's loud as hell. The bar tenders are all great, and there is a very friendly pub atmosphere. Not an upscale bar, but a place to go have a conversation with some friends and get some drinks. The music is never so loud you have to shout over it and the service is quick. After 3 visits the bar tenders will remember you. This is amazing as my visits are usually weeks if not months apart. I have been frequenting this bar for much longer than I care to admit :) Over the last year I feel like its really improved! It's much tinier inside than it used to be. In order to accommodate the outside patio for the smokers you lost the couch corner and a pool table. But I leave there now and don't reek of smoke, so it's okay. The bathrooms are always clean and working. Very important :) Really nice bottled beer selection. There's a good mix of regulars. You'll find a lot of service industry people here too. This is my favorite juke box in fort worth. There's a solid selection. The bartenders are great. Velton is a gem. I do miss Carey!! This place has the downtown Fort Worth feel w/o the downtown crap you don't want to haggle with. Parkings never a issue. Try them out! read more
