For a single drink or two, end of a date nightcap, this place still rocks! The bartenders are great, the cocktail options are varied, and when they are slowest, they are at their best... best shows in FW! Simple and straightforward, quite and safe! Still 5 STARS after all these years read more

This is a very nice cozy place with great drinks and a slight speakeasy feeling. No food so either eat before or after. Since it is on Magnolia, food will not be a problem!!! read more

I love this spot. If you didn't know what you were looking for, you might miss it! The drinks are always expertly made and the vibe is 10/10. My favorite thing is their seating. They have booths that are super secluded and make you feel like you are the only ones there. Service is always quick - but they don't hover. Great spot for an after work happy hour. read more

The Usual is not your usual bar. There, dad pun is out of the way. Now for the review. This is a true cocktail lovers bar. They have a great menu of cocktails. Some are classics, some are in-house recipes. Of course you aren't limited to the menu. These bartenders are professionals and they know their stuff. The atmosphere in this place is spot on. Soft light, and a mid-mod style. This place is great. read more

I went after dinner for drinks and got the why don't we go 8/10. It was smokey and fruity all at the same time. I did remove the burnt cinnamon stick because the smokey flavor was overwhelming. It tasted great after. The ambiance is okay. There was nothing that stood out to me. It had a small bar area and the rest of the seating felt like a hall. read more

Wonderful atmosphere and attentive bartenders. I stopped in in a hoodie and athletic shorts and was apologetic. Wearing something nice helps you fit in much better here. To The Usual: Thank you for a great time, always. read more

I've been coming here since not long after they opened and although, inevitably things have changed, one thing remains the same they serve a good cocktail. Yes a menu is provided and undoubtedly has some unique options the bartenders can make anything you ask for. Service is good; conversation even better. I enjoy visiting on weekdays as it can get a bit crowded on weekends especially after dinner. It's always a nice calm vibe and I typically sit at the bar so service is spot on. I'll see you guys soon! read more

Damn good craft cocktails. I've been a couple of times. We usually go earlier in the evening for a post dinner drink if we go to Magnolia Ave for dinner somewhere. Drinks are phenomenal and the service is great too. Lots of seating with an outdoor patio too. The lighting is low and the ambience is chill. Prices are really reasonable given the level of effort to make them and quality the of the drinks. It's kind of got a hidden entrance... we walked right by it the first time. read more

The Usual - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Fort Worth, Texas

I dont ever need to come back here.I purposely stayed on this street stopping at various places until this place opened up because I have been wanting to try this place out the last two times I've been in Fort Worth but every time I'm on this street it's never open. So you come and there is no sign by the entrance to hardwood floors and it's very loud in here. The bartenders are the mixologists that craft bars are into. I just wanted a dry martini with Ketel One. I told him I don't like olives or any of that crap. I just want a dry vodka martini. He decided to put some kind of lemon garnish stuff in there so it didn't taste like a dry martini at all to me. For the record. I hate citrus fruits especially lemon. But it takes a very long time to get a drink here because they go through a lot of extra steps that to me aren't even necessary. I was a bartender during grad school and I know 80% of the crowd want a good strong drink in a timely mamner. This place is for the other 20% that defintely aint me. The drink probably had about five sips worth in it and it was $12. Naw. I'm good on the spot. It's not romantic because if there's more than six people here you can hear everyone's voices reverberating off of the wood and I'm not really a crafty person. I just wanted a good martini and I didn't get one here read more

Enjoyed happy hour with a beautiful setting with cute drinks with the pals! Drinks are delicious! Service is great!

After failing to find a cocktail bar on a Monday night. After two failed attempts at finding a place to drink the usual was highly recommended and less than a mile away from the other two places I tried to go to. I called to make sure they were open and to my surprise they were. I walked in and I wasn't expecting it to be this dark. The atmosphere is interesting, a large variety of alcohols behind the counter accent the darkness of the bar. It's probably a lot darker than I thought it was going to be since the sun was still out but I dig the vibes and the booths in the establishment are really nice. The staff are very friendly and were very nice to me since it was my first time in a bar. The staff are all wearing masks which makes me really happy that they're following CDC guidelines. They're also certified sanitized which makes me feel more comfortable about the whole place. I ordered an old fashioned and it was interesting seeing them light up an orange peel in front of me. It left a nice aroma to the drink when I originally thought that it was supposed to just be garnished with orange. If I'm ever in town I'm definitely going to hit this place up again. read more

So this is my spot. I come here all the time for happy hour and on other occasions. Today the drinks were sub par and the service was worse. I don't know if the person serving us was our waitress, but she slammed our drinks down, tried to tell us ice cubes was the preferred way to make and old fashioned and was outright rude. I'll come back to see if the happy hour crew is the same, but will never come back on a weekend. Embarrassed...since I brought a friend here and bragged. read more

This is the best place in Fort Worth for craft drinks at a reasonable price. I visited The Usual on two recent occasions, so I combined each visit in this review. The area is dimly lit. There are plenty of tables and a patio area. There is lots of space for people to move around and you won't feel squished. I loved the ancient mariner (mostly rum) and it wasn't sweet, which is my kind of drink. The bartenders were great. We had a large group playing a board game and they stopped by our table several times to refill waters and ask for our orders. My second drink was off the menu and had grapefruit juice. Still, the mariner was my favorite. On my second visit, Matthew made a kick ass earl grey shot. Try it if you can! I ordered the ancient mariner (again). It took 15 minutes to make because they needed to find the right bartender to make it. It was still worth it. The bathrooms are unisex and were well-kept on both visits. Overall, this is my number one place to go for craft drinks in Fort Worth. read more

If you want a good $16 cocktail and that's it, this place will do it for you. However, we got our first rejection ever for a "can you take a quick picture for us" from the staff. "Oh I have to go take another drink order" after she walked over to our table to see if we needed anything. Typical "mixology" stuck up attitude. Won't be coming back. Your drinks aren't good enough to put up with the people. read more

From the outside, The Usual is very unassuming and even though I'd driven by it many times, I never imagined such an excellent place was inside. We went here Christmas Eve and even though it was a holiday, the bartender Brad was super accommodating. There was an excellent selection of drinks and Brad asked us what some of our preferences were. Not wanting just a regular drink, we told him some of our likes and dislikes and asked him to come up with something for each of us. What we were given was perfection in cocktail glasses. He made an Old Cuban and a Trudy. The Old Cuban was rum based and was very refreshing while not being too sweet. The Trudy was an absolute MASTERPIECE and apparently this is a Brad created specialty. It is whiskey and rum based. It is super smooth and smokey... literally. I don't want to ruin the fun but trust me... when Brad makes you a Trudy... you will not be disappointed! Also... these people working here are genuinely cool people. We had some excellent conversation. They are VERY knowledgeable about all the different types of drinks. We will definitely be back. Thank you Brad for a wonderful end to Christmas Eve. read more

I literally got ran out with a friend from out of town for using the term "sir" and "dude", by what I perceived as a person behind high back chair on the back of an empty bar. The threats and lack of professionalism were laughable. Thanks for pouring the drink not drank nor paid for I suppose. (?) "It's mam!" Then the manager called me placing fault on me... the customer. Don't give these people your hard earned money. Oh, and I'm an Army Ranger vet. No big deal. What does my business nor word matter right? Lol read more

The Usual is my favorite cocktail bar in Fort Worth, and is a mainstay of the Fairmount neighborhood. We used to frequent this spot when we got tired of margaritas and wanted something a bit elevated, as it was one of the first and only bars in town at the time to really focus on mixology and fresh ingredients. We stopped in for old times sake on a recent visit back home for a quick drink, and weren't disappointed. She had the Sand & Sea, a perfumery little gin number, whereas I went for a well-prepared salty dirty gin martini. We enjoyed it in one of their private booths with a mirrored ceiling, one of my favorite seats in town to enjoy a drink. read more

Eh. If you're into dimly lit, starkly furnished, 'ultra cool' wannabe speak easy's you'll love this place, and I know several people who do. Personally though, I found it to be pretentious and over priced. We came here for our last drink of the night after the Christmas party we attended. It was very cold out so we figured it'll be a quiet last call. Upon walking in you'll see a big open room and a mixology bar to the right. There were actually a handful of people in there just having their favorite sip and conversing. We ordered our favorites of course! Sazerac for me ($10) and Old fashioned for him ($9). The blend/mix is good. I love smelling my drink before a take my first sip. It was heavenly! I imagine that this place gets busy when the weather is right outside. Will definitely be back for more drinks. read more

Ironically named what it isn't, The Usual keeps you from drinking typically. Theirs is a menu that deserves admiration, careful consideration, and your enthusiasm. These cocktails demand your attention and you'll be happy to pay it! I wasn't sure what I wanted as I perused their options, so the bartender asked me "What do you like?" How wonderful that he took the time on a busy eve to discuss my palate! I said, "nothing too strong, but nothing too sweet," which is totally vague and unhelpful, but alas! I was blessed with the perfect fit; the Maximillian-aire. Reposado tequila, cynar, agave, grapefruit bitters, and ouzo. The inside of the glass was lined with lemon peel, the rim with sugar, and the whole shebang was tart and bright. There's a pretty romantic quality to the Usual. The ambiance is enhanced not only by their visionary menu, but by the intimate and dark space they possess. There's a cutesy, super small patio outside for fresh air, and guess what else? Holy Frijoles is out back! Initially I felt that bringing burritos into The Usual would kind of transmute their quixotic vibe, but it totally doesn't. It's awesome that they let you bring the eats inside! Feel free to enjoy taco time, but don't come in here and order a Miller light, okay? The Usual has fashioned unexpected cocktails from your favorite, familiar flavors, and if you aren't up for that you better believe you're ordering a top-notch brew instead! read more

Don't ask, don't tell... that's what I'm talking about! And that's a cocktail, mind you. Somehow, you know a place with such a perfect-sounding cocktail is going to be AOK. I did try the aforementioned cocktail and very much enjoyed the expertly mixed concoction. Although *my* usual these is bubbly, and they have that, too. A few kinds by the glass, if I'm not mistaken! I need to make a special note about the impressive bartenders that lack the typical pretension I've encountered by mixologists in similar cocktail lounges. As in the kind that make you feel lucky that you're even being served. On my most recent visit to The Usual, the bartender was slammed back there, yet he took the time to make eye contact with me and even ask my order while he was preparing some elaborate cocktails. *This* I wasn't even expecting! And wow, he was friendly, too. The prices are right. The seating can be intimate, despite the lounge being more on the ultra-modern sparse side (gotta love those ultra private booths though there's plenty of "be seen" seating and seats at the bar, too). Yep. "I'll have the Usual" when I'm back in Ft. Worth again. read more

{stands up and waves} Hey...I'm Brandon and I'm in love with alcohol....especially hand crafted cocktails that are made without any pretentiousness or eye rolls. The Usual is the gem of Magnolia Ave. bars. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable and they make great fucking drinks. Not too heavy handed and no skimping...the drinks are made with the accuracy of Robin Hoods arrows. My go-to drink anywhere I visit is a Sazerac - they make them the best here. You won't find it on the menu but it's delicious. Also their old fashioned rivals most any in DFW. I haven't looked at their menu in ages but I have had most the drinks off of it and there isn't one that isn't tasty...even if you have a favorite cocktail thats not on the menu - they will be more than happy to make it for you....and don't listen to Samn R. about no Pisco Sours....they have served me many many Pisco Sours..with fresh egg whites and all. If you are feeling super sassy....ask them to make you a "I need to return some videotapes" - you can thank me personally...I am probably sitting at the end of the bar. read more

What I enjoy most about this place is none of the drinks have anything artificial in them. The bartenders are not your regular bartenders and are awesome in their craft. Everything is considered when creating your classic cocktail, from which brand and type of alcohol they use, the ingredients and preparation. My favorite drinks are the French 75 if you want something sweet and bubbly, the Old Fashion for something a bit stronger, and the Bison something for something fresh and sweet. They also offer a limited wine and beer selection. I really enjoy the ambiance The Usual has to offer. Magnolia has a very trendy, hipster vibe to it and The Usual steps it up a notch, creating a very modern, sterile looking environment. What makes The Usual even more worth coming to is Holy Frijoles right behind them. read more

Fantastic cocktails, some of the best I've had in a long time. I appreciate craft cocktails and this place did not disappoint. The bartenders were friendly and very quick, especially given the complexity of some of the drinks. My date and I had no problem hearing each other over the music and the chatter even with the bar fairly busy. It had a bit of a speakeasy feel with how the door is completely opaque but it wasn't actively hidden the way some places are. A good balance. It was great experience overall. read more
