Oof. I LOVE Upper Crust. Quick, tasty, easily portable... pizza is quite possibly the most perfect creation. And UC represents! That being said-- DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT order their new wheat crust. It was basically bland pita bread. It wasn't horrible... but it wasn't good either. Just bite the freakin' bullet and worry about the health risks later. The Upper Crust is pretty good. I like that they offer take out for a single slice. The best thing is how cheap the pizza is. Judging from the cost, I thought I would need two slices. When I was handed them, I realized that even one was a lot to handle for me. Altogether, the pizza is good. I personally like thicker crust pizza, since to me thats the best part. Ok, so the pizza here is great compared to the larger chains and whatnot... but they are serious bad at consistency. Well, that's not the best way of putting it I guess. They are consistently good when I eat there, and consistently bad when I order for delivery or pick up. What is bad? a. I've had a couple experiences with upper crust and some have been amazing and some have been - eh. I ordered a half veggie/half some sort of meat pizza at one in brookline and liked it - but not enough to shell out the 25.00 I paid for it - again in the future. We then ordered some at work from the one in Cambridge - and maybe becausae I was ordering with more experienced people with upper crust - it was amazing! We ordered a half 3 cheeses and half fresh mozzerella and tomato pie. Both slices were GREAT. Now I will order from upper crust again because of that experience - but I still think their pies are a bit overpriced for what you're getting. read more

Was shopping in Coolidge corner, when I decided to grab a slice. Asked for mushroom, got green pepper. No big deal. Before taking a bite I noticed something other than crust, sauce, cheese and green peppers. Showed manager at counter and asked for another slice (not green pepper). He gave me a new slice. If I'm going to eat pizza, it has got to be *good* pizza--and Upper Crust entirely fits the bill. Was at the Brookline location this past Saturday night, and even though the place was a-hoppin', we were able to score a table--and our pizza was ready in about 15 minutes. What most impresses me about Upper Crust is that, despite being a super-thin pizza base with a nice amount of cheese and veggies atop it, I can actually pick it up and eat it--meaning, the pointy part of the triangle doesn't droop down and all my toppings don't go sliding onto my plate. This pizza may look wimpy, but it's durable. And delicious. And they serve wine :-) read more

I agree with some of the other posts... they are consistently inconsistent. The slices are either ginormous or they are way too small. My fiance (that's right, Vincent M. got engaged!), and I ate here the other day and both of our slices were generously sized, other times I've come here, ordered a ($3.50 slice) and had to go order another one because it was just too small... Anyway, I like Upper Crust, the staff is nice to me, I do see them eating and drinking as they make pizza and that kinda irks me but, I do like the pizza. I've ordered twice from this Upper Crust location and both times they've messed up my order in some way. First order: Pizza, lasagna, salad - they forget the salad. Okay, not a big deal. Second order: Pizza, lasagna. The driver shows up an hour after I called and he doesn't have change, so reluctantly I give him a larger tip than I normally would. Okay, getting a little upset now. I get back up to my apartment, open the pizza box, and the pizza is cold, not slightly warm, but COLD...and gross looking. It looked like a pizza that had been sitting out at as a by-the-slice pizza and after no one ordered it, they sent it for a cycle through the oven and sent it over to me. By this point I'm upset. I call the Upper Crust, they say that they'll send a new pizza over. Long story short, another hour passes, and now I've been waiting for over TWO hours. 5 stars? Yes. Why? This is one of the best places to get pizza in and around the Boston area. Would this be 5 stars in New Haven or New York, probably not but we are not there. My favorite pizza of all is either Bar or Pepes in New Haven but in Boston, Upper Crust is almost as good as Santarpios. Great staff and fresh toppings daily. I am a big fan of the pepperoni but the mushroom is also great. I also enjoy that it is a mini chain and you are able to get the pizza in Hingham as well as the city. read more

Oh Upper Crust, what happened to you? This once amazing pizzeria has really fallen. I got a calzone yesterday with just normal toppings (6 toppings) and it was $20 per calzone, $1.50 per topping, that's crazy! For $20 I could've gotten a large pizza. I really hate to give such a poor rating but my recent experience at Upper Crust Coolidge Corner was not good. Called in my order, arrived 10 min later and it appeared they only started the order after we arrived. We ordered a large veg pizza and the person after us ordered a small cheese pizza. Guess what? Our veg pizza came out small and the gal had a large cheese pizza (lucky her since she paid for a small size.) After much waiting, our large pizza was finally ready. Lucky (??) us b/c we got the small veg pizza for free. I question lucky b/c the pizzas were not enjoyable at all. Can't say how disappointed we were. Has there been a change of hands in ownership? The pizza crust recipe certainly changed. It used to be a really flavorful thin crust.You can taste the olive oil in the crust. This deliciousness was what always drew me back to the Upper Crust. Instead, we got thick, doughy, flavorless crust (yuck!) No hint of olive oil. I'm not the only one to notice this. A friend of mine went a couple of weeks ago and noticed the change in recipe as well. Wondering if it's only this location or is the change across the board at other Upper Crusts as well. At some point in the future, I may visit another UC location to test their recipe. Maybe the change is only at the Coolidge Corner location but I have a feeling not, which would be a sad thing. Great gourmet pizza place. I've lived in Brookline for almost a year now but I just tried this place last week. Conclusion: Excellent pizza, quality ingredients, slightly painful prices, wonderful and friendly service. Getting pizza there on a Friday night is no easy feat. There were loads of people and too many choices in ingredients. It was really hard to pick what I wanted on the pizza considering all the choices of cheese and meat. In the end we went with prosciutto, gorgonzola, and mushrooms. The guy taking orders was super nice despite all the bustle going on. He complimented us on the pizza choice and accurately told us that it would be a 15-20 minute wait. When the pizza came they didn't skimp on the toppings, it was full of gorgonzola-goodness. It ended up being a pricier pizza but hey, the ingredients weren't exactly standard. If you want a cheese pizza, I wouldn't recommend this place. If you want a pizza topped with things like prosciutto, sun-dried tomatoes, and chorizo then come here. read more

The Upper Crust is a gourmet pizzeria in brookline with a fabulous crunchy crust and just the right amount of sauce. Their menu include endless designer pizzas, and you can also name your own toppings for personalized flavor. Large pizzas are VERY large and even the individual slices are equivalent to 2. It is more expensive than Domino's or any other pizza chain, but you're also getting fresh ingredients on a handmade pizza. It's worth the trade off. They deliver, but they have precious few drivers so it could take up to 60 minutes of waiting on your part. Best bet is the pick up, or dining in their medium sized storefront. All in all, it's the best pizza I've had in Boston. read more

This was the last stop on my food tour in the historic South End. The dining space was very clean, and I got a kick out of the pizza pan decorations on the ceiling. I learned that their sauces were freshly made in house, unlike most other pizza shops, and you could absolutely taste the difference. I really enjoyed the thin-crust pepperoni and sausage pizza provided by the food tour, and would love to come back and try some more when I'm back in town. read more

Look, I like their pizza, but their customer service is terrible. I walked up to the counter to order. I made eye contact with the man behind the counter. He then turned around and walked away from me to plug his phone in. But he didn't come back to the counter to take my order. He kept playing on his phone while I stood there. I was there today with my boyfriend. After we ate, my boyfriend went to the bathroom (single bathroom). As he stood by the door to the bathroom, waiting for the person in there to come out, he heard the toilet flush. Immediately after the flush, the bathroom door opened and a kitchen worker come out of the bathroom, wearing his apron and rubbing his nose with his hand...indicating he DID NOT WASH HIS HANDS. The Upper Crust is one of the most overrated places I've been in Boston. The crust is very bland, and they make up for it by toasting it to a crisp and distracting you with novelty toppings. The place itself is pleasant, though very small. If you're looking for mediocre pizza with a crispy crust and lots of decent toppings then you might try Upper Crust. Otherwise try Pizza Republic around the corner or even better, head up Babcock street to T. Anthony's for a real slice of pizza. So in all fairness I love the cheese pizza from upper crust and paired with a good salad, like their caesar using only the lemon no dressing it is a great meal. But what isn't great? Their terrible service. I am unfortunately in this area often for work so I have stopped in always hoping for a better result and constantly am frustrated about rude college aged girls at the counter who would clearly rather text message than do their job. Believe me, I know we have all been there where you wake up and say really is this all there is? But if you hate your job so much quit. The first time i had upper crust was when I was in the Key West about 10 years ago. Ever since then I flock to it. Unfortunately for me, but foruntate for this UCP, Greg's apartment is about a 10 min walk to here. I had the coolidge corner one last weekend and it was amazing as ever. I got two slices, and they had me wait for them to come out of the oven (thank gawwwd... so fresh). The crust was surely woodfired and a little burnt/crisp, but in the most perfect satisfying way. The slices were MASSIVE and seasoned just well. Being a frequent UPC visitor around the country, I would highly suggest getting slices from here, althoguh I have never had a full pizza, they just seem like the "Slice" type of a place. This UPC is trendy, and you can watch them making/rolling all the pizzas out from the street! The servers were all really friendly, funny, and seemed to really enjoy their job. There isn't much sitting room, but its great for takeout back to your apartment (and they deliver!!!). This will be a very dangerous stop for Gster and I. read more

I wouldn't say Upper Crust has the best pizza I've ever had, but for what it's worth, I think they are one of the best in Boston. Although not an expert, I am definitely a devoted pizza lover and I have tried a lot of pizzas at a lot of different places including the motherland of pizza--Italy. Having eating countless pizzas in the world, I have acquired a preference for thin crust pizzas that are moderately topped with fresh ingredients and cheeses. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that quality at a chained shop such as upper crust. The best part about this place is not only the fact that they have a wonderful selection of toppings, they even do pesto base or splashes on their pies! Expensive? Maybe slightly, for some people's standards. but Overpriced? Definitely NOT. Their quality can almost compete with a sit-down Italian restaurant, so I don't mind paying a bit more than I do for the sub-shop down the street. I have always found the stores clean and comfortable. The fact that they service wines and beers is pretty awesome, just like their amazing chicken caesar salad. read more

I am a huge pizza lover, but I was not really impressed with the upper crust. It is better than average pizza from the corner shop but is not as good as I hoped it would be. The crust was thin and chewy, the red sauce was very flavorful, but there was something about the cheese that I couldn't quite make myself like. The toppings tasted fresh and flavorful. I've heard about Upper Crust a million and one times but have yet to try it... until today! I stopped in while doing errands around the Coolidge Corner area and was pleasantly surprised by their array of options. I would consider Upper Crust to be a little on the pricier side for its look - the interior appearance screams basic pizza joint - there's nothing really "upper" about it. I definitely envisioned it being a much nicer establishment for its rep. Either way I enjoyed my mini buffalo chicken calzone and side greek salad. Wasn't the best I've ever had but it sure wasn't the worst. I would definitely return to try the pizza... I mean that's their claim to fame right?! I heard the slices are small- but that's a given nowadays unfortunately. I also thought the service was great- really friendly staff up front. You get what you pay for, well, in this case anyways. UC in Brookline is high quality pizza that they don't exactly give away (well, maybe when my friend Leah's working. Sshh.) It's thin crust with chunky tomato sauce and fresh toppings. If the slice of the day doesn't do it for you, go with standard pepperoni, my all-time fave. The biggest problem with Upper Crust is also one of it's most charming attributes. The delivery guys ride bicycles with boxes mounted on the back and peddle the pizza to your door in summer time. Nice touch I know, but it takes them fucking forever to get there and when they do, the pie's cold. Winter's not as bad because they're forced to use cars. I prefer to go into this place. It's in the heart of my neighborhood, Coolidge Corner, and it's the ideal place to eat before a movie at the theater, which UC is adjacent to. It's also cool to see the guys working in the kitchen through the big picture windows. Oh yeah, you can get local draft beer here, and what goes better with 'Za than a frosty Harpoon? The inside is small with a half dozen tables and some nice TVs. You can't beat this neighborhood in the summer where people watching and walking around with a slice is just what you do. I thought my slice was all right. It was oddly cut and didn't blow me over with freshness. It was a veggie slice with greens and ? (I have forgotten the other toppings already.) It was definitely not the most flavorful slice I've had. I actually love both thin and thick crust--I think for me the quality of the cheese and the toppings and the flavor/texture of the crust is the most important. The most recent time, I came here because of a groupon, and shared the large split pizza (charles st and garden/veggie) and even though its my second time at upper crust, its not bad...i like the idea of a split pizza but im a huge fan of thick crust...i want to try it with meat/chicken next time since both times, it was either cheese/veggie. read more

Here's my take on Pizza joints and how to judge them. As we learned growing up that not all pizza places are created equal. Just like people, they come in all different shapes and sizes. We have to respect and judge each one for what they are, not what we want them to be. The biggest misconception with the upper crust is that people think its a different type/ style of pizzeria than what it really is. That's why people either love it or hate it. Let me first describe the Lovers and then we'll get to the haters as i think its important to hear both cases. The lovers are stoked with the Upper crust because they are genuinely fans of thin crust pizza. These people also love the chunky tomato sauce that is found within the za at the upper crust. The Haters, and i love these people cause they're meticulously critical, people who dint hold anything back (I'm a hater). I feel that these folks see the sign and immediately have expectations regarding the crust. When the crust doesn't deliver. They are disappointed. The crust at upper crust is a true representation of think crust pizza. Plain and simple. It is what it is... Maybe these people have a preconceived notion or are trying to compare upper crust to another style of pizza that they have a greater admiration for? Ya know... All in All i think the upper crust has a solid cheese slice and as far as the specialty pizza's go, the BBQ chicken is probably my favorite. Normally I love a nice, thick crusty slice of pizza and Upper Crust is definitely for thin-crust lovers. Perhaps that is where the issue lies between me and Upper Crust- I just don't find their crust satisfying. They are conveniently located, though and it's a great place to grab a quick bite in Coolidge Corner. You don't have to beg for a glass of water- they're available right on the counter and if you're a soda drinker, refills are free and plentiful. I like the slice of the day concept. I am picky about my pizza. While I enjoy Upper Crust, it's not the first place I'll choose for pizza. The sauce is a little too chunky for my taste. I want thin sauce. I don't want to be dragging out big chunks of tomato, thankyouverymuch. Nevertheless, a friend and I were in Coolidge Corner for a movie recently and looking for a cheap dinner and there it was. We both chose the "Slice and Salad Combo" for $6.75. I got a slice of cheese and a caesar salad. There was a surprising amount of salad packed into that little plastic container! The name says it all, legit! I'm a born and bred New Yorker, and Upper Crust Pizzeria is definitely some of the best, highest quality pizza I've had in a long time. I was in Coolidge Corner with my friend doing some shopping, and I needed a quick bite to eat. My go-to is always pizza, and as per my friend's recommendation, we came into Upper Crust. I got the combo deal, which was one slice of cheese and a salad. The Caesar Salad was pretty basic, but it hit the spot. What I really came here for was the pizza, and my goodness gracious, this pizza was effing DELISH! It was a thin slice piece of heaven, no joke. The crust was crispy, the sauce was light but flavorful, and my slice was big! For $7.95, this was an amazing deal!
