Best sandwiches in Pacifica. I've tried at least a half-dozen different kinds - I'm partial to the ironically named "Sunny Pacifica" - and have yet to have an average sammy. I'll challenge anyone who thinks differently to a sandwich-off. You can keep your Colombos and use it as bait off The Pier. Upper Crust is where it's at, sucka! Stuck in Pacifica and need a good deli able to consistently make an excellent sandwich? Look no further than Upper Crust Delicatessen. Just be prepared to drive to the back end of Pacifica's Linda Mar area to get that sandwich. But it's definitely worth the drive. If you are there on a sunny day then enjoy your meal outside up the street at Oddstad Park or take it back out to the beach. Little hint about its location: this place is trapped inside the Park Center Mall. When you look for the place, be sure to go inside the main building. The Deli is located in the mini inside section. Always great to have a local sandwich shop around the corner! It's not fancy but it is always fresh and Ray is always so polite and accommodating! So today there was nothing polite or accommodating about my experience. Rude on the phone. This review is long overdue because this is hands down the best deli in Pacifica. Prices are great but the food is even better. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the burgers are far better than anywhere else you will find in Pacifica. As far as sandwiches are concerned, whenever I come to Pacifica, the two options for sandwiches are Subway and Upper Crust. Upper Crust is on a whole other level of sandwiches, not to mention burgers and other delicious deli eats. I love their broad selection of cold meats and their upper crust burger is really really good. This is probably my favorite quick stop place to eat in Pacifica hands down. Seriously do yourself a favor and stop by here before heading over to San Pedro Valley Park. Prior to an afternoon of hiking, we fueled up here and it was an all around delicious experience. First of all the folks who work here are super friendly, nice to chat with and completely accomodating when asking to add or substitute ingredients on the sandwiches from their pre-configured sandwich menu. I had a grilled veggie sandwich minus the eggplant (hate eggplant-I know I'm weird for a vegetarin) that the filled up with extra peppers, other veggies and delicious tahini and all piled high on yummy sour dough. A bit messy but wonderful! My boyfriend has the chicken fingers sub, which he justified as "it's okay to eat fried food today since we're hiking." Plentiful seating both in the actual deli and then at other tables in the outer area. Definitely tucked away in a random plaza near a mostly residential area, but for a mid-Saturday afternoon, it definitely had some good traffic and a steady stream of patrons coming in. It also has a vast assortment of drinks, chips, candy and other random snacks-enough to stock up on before you head over to the park. OMG I found a diamond today?! Ok not a real diamond but definitely a special place. Another place I can actually eat @in Pacifica. I'm finding out that if you search just a lil harder, Pacifica can surprise you. My surprise today came in the form of Upper Crust Deli. Wanted to do something different as I do every weekend. Found this place on Yelp and went to check it out. A very extensive menu, I mean you think of any sandwich and Ray does just about all of them. I was in total safe mode so I went with "The Stadium" burger. Meat was good not great but the overall sandwich was filled with flavor, from soft fresh bread, to the flavor filled toppings & can't forget the fries?! They were really good! I really like steak fries but I like them even better when cooked lightly golden with a crisp to them. Oh yeah and I got to meet Ray, the owner who is a really cool kat. I look forward to exploring his menu some more in the future. But again, definitely a good place to check out if in Pacifica. read more

I went here a lot for the last three years but the last handful of times I've been really disappointed in the quality of their sandwiches. Stale bread, very little meat, and the incredibly long wait times (was told 20 mins but took an hour). The quality and timeliness became too unpredictable. We ordered a make your own sandwich with avocado and cheese. We were charged over $9 close to $10... there is no way that ads up. Also they were unable to give us change because they didn't have any??? What? Sandwich was small and minimal to none veggies and no sight of the avocado.... Sorry, I have no patience for a restaurant that's cold inside because the management wants to leave the front door open. If you want people walking by to know you are open, you can just put a big sign in the window that says OPEN. The staff were all in a bad mood, probably because their fingers were frozen. Shallowly nestled into a small mall, Upper Crust is a local community deli with some tasty sandwiches and a pretty good variety of candy and chilled drinks. You can see the community's appreciation for their involvement with various letters and plaques just inside the entrance way. Anyway, the sandwiches. Italian deli style, the meats aren't the most flavorful, and the rolls are good but not great, but the condiments are fresh. I had half a meatball sandwich and half a "Tiger Special" (a avacado, bacon, turkey, and ham combination). The meatball needed more spices, and the bacon was a little lost, but I have to admit that I still enjoyed the food, and the price was about right. Like my last sandwich shop review, Upper Crust is more of a 3.5 stars than 4, at least for the food. I'm very comfortable giving Upper Crust 4 stars given the friendly staff. I love upper crust deli. The owner is extremely nice, their sandwiches are yummy, and the bagels are always fresh. They have a wide variety for a deli and the prices are right. The only thing that eeked me out one time was a hair in my deli sandwich. I ordered my usual from them and I forgot why I peeled my sandwich apart, but thank the Lord that I did because I found a black hair in the middle. I immediately threw it away. Things like that make me want to vomit, even if I haven't consumed the food yet. The next time I went I told the lady up front who I don't believe works there any longer. She told me, "if it happens again let us know." If it happens again? I would of loved to have heard, "it will never happen again." It hasn't happened again which is tremendous because the last thing I want is my food with a side of hair. read more

In my quest to try all of the 4+ star reviewed spots in Pacifica, I made an effort to make it to Upper Crust today on the way home from work today. One of the other reviews suggested the meatball sub, so I went for it. I also picked up a pepper turkey sandwich for my wife, some fries, and 5 pieces of falafel (I'll never pass up falafel). The meatball sub was decent, and the pepper turkey sandwich was pretty good. The falafel was terrible (microwave reheated), and the fries were so-so. The prices were VERY good, but all-in-all, I wouldn't go back here unless I lived within a mile or two of the place. read more

Sandwiches are pretty good. The first time I had the turkey sandwich, my initial thought was "it's okay" which I'm my family means it was boring, just something to fill the tummy so I don't starve. The next thought I had was, it's no Little Lucca or Darby Dan; that's when it hit me... my sandwiches don't need to be smothered in garlic spread to be good. I've just become so accustomed to that. My last visit I tried one of the specialty sandwiches, forgot what it was called but it was turkey, ham, avocado, and bacon on sweet roll. I had them their in some lettuce and tomato. It was good. I swear this place never lets me down. Its a cool little whole in the wall place with delicious bagels and sandwiches. I used to come here every day when i was younger and now since i live a little further i come when i can but every time i do its just how i remember it. Skip to second paragraph for actual review. My fiance and I love going to the coast, whether its Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, SF, Santa Cruz. This day we took my motorcycle to the Cliff House in SF and worked our way down the coast. As we got closer to Pacifica we got hungry. I pulled over in Pacifica and checked out my Yelp! app for restaurants near by, this one stood out to me because of the great reviews and seeing the large menu in the Yelp! photos. I knew both me and my fiance could find something. We get there and it is a little hole in the wall. It looks like an old liquor store that converted into a deli but they still have some of the liquor store things there like large beverage refrigerators. Immediately my fiance looks at me with the "are we doing this?" and I say hell yeah. So it is a bit of a dive (Its really not bad), but you can tell all the locals stop in. The menu is enormous, you will find something to eat. We ordered a turkey club and a eggplant sandwich. The Turkey club was executed perfectly the bacon was crispy and delicious, the pepper jack cheese really helped as well. The eggplant had tahini, cucumbers, eggplant and more. It was a bit spicy but filled with flavor. We wished we ordered some curly fries after we saw some come out...Next time! Definitely recommend it! read more

Very good deli! I love stopping here in the mornings before taking my kids to school for a toasted Noah's bagel and flavored cream cheese. I usually get sundried tomato or veggie cream cheese. I have not had any cold sandwiches from here but have had a number of items from their new grill. Fresh cut fries, Philly Cheese steak, Cheeseburger, Hot Link & Italian Sausage w onions & peppers have ALL been GREAT! I've also had some of their Middle Eastern items.. Someone wrote a review comparing Upper Crust's sandwiches to Colombo's (on Manor). So with that said, I knew I had to try it out for myself and compare the two places also. I'm a huge fan of Colombo's sandwiches because of their great quality and service. Let's see how Upper Crust did.. My bf got the "Smoked turkey & Bacon" on sourdough w/ everything on it. You get to choose your own bread & cheese. -- $6.00 I forget the name of my sandwich, but it had turkey, roast beef, ham, jack & american cheese, and I chose dutch crunch for my bread. -- $6.00 When compared to Colombo's (there I always get Tomaso's Special or the Godfather), I'd say that Colombo's wins. However, I will be returning to Upper Crust because it's way closer and the sandwiches are still delicious. If I could give zero stars I would. Thought this place was decent at first but I have quickly changed my mind. I went in there this morning with my daughter for bagels and they were toasted way too much. We were hungry so we ate them but the one we brought back for my other daughter was inedible. My daughters decided to bring it back and get another one. They were met with rudeness and were told the bagel was not toasted too long, that that's how all the bagels are. They refused to give her another bagel even though you could clearly see the bagel had not been touched. They were asked to leave the store and as they were leaving the gentleman was screaming "I did nothing wrong!" Wow, not a good way to run a business at all. Oh, and they don't where gloves when they touch your food which is totally disgusting! read more

Sandwiches are a little small for the price, and their chip selection isn't very extensive, but the service is really quick, so if you want a fast sandwich, I'd say come here. Otherwise, Safeway is right around the corner, and I honestly prefer their sandwiches over many others. Who can beat a $5 toasted sandwich loaded with anything you could ever think of? My favorite deli, and the only restaurant I've ever found worthy of being rated 5 stars! I began going to this deli in 1992 when I was in 8th grade at Ortega (ha! I just gave my age away, didn't I?), and only stopped because I moved away. Whenever I'm in town, I make it a point to stop in and get my old standby - turkey on dutch cruch with lettuce, extra tomatoes, and garlic spread. Oh, the garlic spread! This is one of those things I could smear on my shoe and it'd make it taste good. My second favorite was a vegetarian sandwich with roasted eggplant - eggplant delight, maybe? I can't quite remember the name of it, but I can still clearly recall the taste. Bagels? Awesome! I haven't been in since they added the grill, but Upper Crust still deserves a full 5 stars for all of the wonderful sandwiches they fed me throughout my youth. The owners were always so friendly, and even had my sandwich memorized when I was eating there frequently. I miss you, Upper Crust! I need a garlic spread fix! read more
