He tried to get my old fin to fit by sanding it down; but when that didn't work he replaced it and the fin was way cheaper than what I would have paid for at other surf shops. They have a very eclectic inventory of SUP's, Surfboards, bikes and beach accessories. Every time I go in I find a new Bargain!! TIP- See Mark the repair guy if your SUP or Surfboard needs repair. I came across Up Sports when we were in town looking for a better price to rent SUPs instead of renting them on base. I called and George answered and was very helpful. He allowed us to keep the boards overnight so that we could have them all day and would not have to drive them back. He gave us a great deal for the two day rental and was very kind! The location was close and convenient. The entire process was very quick and we got everything that we needed. We rented 5 SUP boards (included paddles), 2 wetsuits, and 1 lifejacket. Everything was in great condition and was perfect! George was very informative on the right board lengths based upon our height and weight. Up Sports in Oceanside gets 5 for great customer service! From the moment I stepped into the shop, Eric, Alex and Ilana provided me with excellent and attentive service. I had walked in looking for a new roof rack and roof basket after not making a purchase due to horrible customer service at another retailer in Costa Mesa, which is much closer to home. Not only did they hook me up, installed everything with a smile, they made a lifelong customer out of me. I'll be taking all my vehicles to get hooked up for the great outdoors here. This guy is a pompous ass! I wouldn't go back here on a bet. My friend and I went in here because he wanted to get some roof racks for the kayak he owns. We stopped in on our way to the harbor to paddle and get some sun. He had a customer he was with when we walked in so we browsed until he was done. Seemed pricey to me and my friend both but he did comment that the surfboards were priced fairly. When he was done he came over and started talking to my buddy about his racks and kind of turned into a jerk. Saying stuff like "He was the only one that has them" and "Where else were we gonna go?". Then he badmouths out kayaks that are in the back of my truck and the ones he sells are "SO much better!". This kind of pissed me off but my friend was furious and said something like "How dare you talk poorly about the gift my wife gave me for my birthday" and even after the guy was just kind of a prick. Needless to say we bought nothing and won't. He can continue to prey on the naive Marines and ripping off the tourists but he won't get a nickel from us! My boyfriend decided he wanted to surprise me with "his and hers" kayaks. He did a lot of shopping around at a variety of stores from Dana Point to Oceanside and also considered buying used Kayaks from craigslist. After an extensive search he decided to go with Up Sports in Oceanside because George was so helpful. We each got the Cobra Escape which were $300 off at the time. They came with a very nice seat, leg straps, an oar (we got to pick out the color we wanted too!), and a tackle box for the round hatch. We have a dodge caliber without a roof rack and purchased the rack pads as well. They were able to securely hold both kayaks with ease. We took the kayaks out the same day in Dana Point and they were wonderful...very comfortable and easy to maneuver. If you are looking to buy a kayak I highly recommend going here and seeing George. This looks like it a place that has either a love / hate experience. Can only go by our recent experience to rent to SUPs. George was all over it for us. In fact he even took a new board off the retail rack and put it out as a rental when it turned out that all of his other rental gear was previously out for the day. We are only once a year visitors to North County SD. Our observation is that the customer service here can be pretty hit or miss. Certainly dealing with George for this occasion was a big hit. This place has come through for me multiple times. I lived in Carlsbad/Oceanside for a good deal of my life. When I moved to Arizona for work, I would come back periodically and surf. I've had to get last minute wetsuits and gear the day before the trip or the day of, and every time I've called or showed up, the service has been very good. They have great deals on entry level wetsuits and boards for all ages and sizes. George does a great job taking care of locals as well as out of town folks. Just happened to check this store out, since the original one I wanted to go to, was closed. Once my family and I walked in, we were greeted right away by George, the owner. He was very personable, helpful, and highly knowledgeable about the products he sells. He was able to pick out the perfect paddle board (SUP) and size for me. It was very light to carry, which was a bonus for me, since most of the time, I'll be taking the board out myself. I got a really good deal on it (Mothers Day special), in which he threw in a bag, fins, leash, and a carbon fiber paddle... all in one awesome price!! George and his son Mike are a cool couple of guys. They are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I bought a handmade Smooth board from them a couple of weeks back at a great deal: $695 with the carbon fiber paddle and fins, bag, and leash. Turned out that the board was defective and brought it back. Mike inspected it and noticed the imbalance and offered me to come back to get the board replaced. I came back the next day when George was working and explained to him the situation. He also noticed the issue with the board. He felt very bad that this happened, so he offered me a much better $895 Brusurf board for only an extra $100. George is a loud dude, but he's just passionate about what he does! Don't be scared! I would not suggest buying from them online. I made that mistake and called them to find out when it would ship and was given a run around. I called again the next day and they said they'd call me back with the info. Next day still no call, so I call again. Tried to find a surfboard shop that opened early in oceanside, no one was out there. Drove around and found George at the Up Sports. We decided instead of surfing to try paddle boarding. I didn't have a rack and he loaned us a soft rack for free to put the boards on my smaller car. He was friendly. As soon as we got in, the owner greeted us, asked to the point questions, took the time to educate what we didn't know, gave some great pieces of advice and offered an amazing deal! I'd been shopping around for a while and had actually visited another factory warehouse in OC and demo'd one of their boards before going back to UP.
