Wow. Two words, professional and fun!!…read more Recently came here sporadically with a good friend because she purchased a paddleboarding groupon. Her other friend bailed, so I became the lucky candidate. Fine by me, I said! Not knowing what to expect. My boyfriend wanted to come along too, and George, the owner have him a reduced price which was very very nice of him so that we all three could enjoy the experience and all have fun. Let me tell you... I was blown away with how qualified and well-rounded George was and immediately felt secure since he knew exactly what he was doing! They provided us with the boards and paddles and he helped each of us get on while instructing us how to paddle and maneuver the board, before eventually leading us away. He was kind enough to help us all when we needed it, and made for such a wonderful memorable experiment by snapping photos that I'll always remember. It was difficult and scary at first, but it became easier as I conquered my fear. Now, I actually want to get better and come again! Hopefully work up to doing more on the board and hopefully without life jacket next time lol. I'm definitely bringing friends and coming back! So much fun!

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!…read more I bought a Groupon for my original friend to come tag along as a Spring Break treat however she flaked! So I asked my other friend to come along and her boyfriend wanted to come try it out too. On the morning of our reservation, I was slightly bummed that it was typical Oceanside "May Gray" weather although it's March! However, I get to the place a little early and was waiting for my fashionably late friends, so I decided to go and meet George! He's a 6X World Guinness Record holder, Cycling Instructor, and Retired DEA! I'm sure I'm missing more of his accolades, as if this list wasn't intimidating enough! Nonetheless, he is NOT an intimidating person at all! After my tardy for the party friends got there, we all headed down to the dock right there in front of Jolly Roger's to get started on our paddleboarding excursion! I was slightly worried for my friend because she can only kinda swim, but there's a life jacket if needed. George took our photo and it was my turn to get on the board! I was the same nervous excited like I get on a first date, but I had my friends there too, so it was more excitement!We all get out on the water, accomplished! Then it was time to get on our feet! Oh crap was going through my mind, but I figured here we go! I took about maybe a total of 5 secs on the board before falling in! George was so nice to help me get my ass on the board, which isn't as easy as it looks, but then again I haven't worked out in a year, sooo it was a struggle! George was there the whole 20 minutes of me trying to get back on the board, but was so nice and professional because he was so worried I was going to get sick or really cold due to my whole body going in for a sea water bath! After all that's said and done, I had such a wonderful time! My friends were a little better at it than me, but that just means I have to come back again and show them up!

It's just a great lake and a great marina. It is so quiet. It is so sunny. Think abour being in perfect day like if it was 1963 when the hotel there was founded. I have a friend in San Marcos and that is always our meeting point because we enjoy the quiet we enjoy people watching and especially the view. Every time we've been back since (a totaly of 4 more times) he's never once been there. We even called 10 minutes before we left our house and asked him if he was there today, he responded with "I'm here every day" to which he probably heard me chuckle in the background in response too. 10 minutes later? Not there. I feel bad for the lady whose shop he's attached too because she or her employers (mostly her) had to leave her shop to come over and help us. She's super sweet and I love her, but understandably and admittedly she knows nothing about SUPs. I'm curious to see what will happen to him after his Groupon release; we were actually thinking oh maybe he'll be there since he launched it right at the holiday weekend - but hey! No. We picked our own boards and came back to exchange them several times and not once did we see him or hear from him. We were even considerate enough to return them on time. He may have good deals but I just can't support someone who won't even be responsible for his own store.

Tom is a stand up guy (pun intended)…read more He was patient with my wife, a first timer, who didn't want to continue after stepping on the board, experiencing a few wobbles. But with Tom's assistance, she persevered, paddling along the shoreline, while Tom accompanied her, walking by her side on the sand. Twenty minutes later, my wife had the confidence to paddle the lagoon by herself, all thanks to Tom. We even brought our dog with us, a five year old golden retriever, and as an added bonus, we paddled her as well on the board. Yay! Thanks for the fond memories Tom, and all your help. She strives to provide the very best experience for her clients and she hit the mark with us! We had originally scheduled for a mid-day lesson, but Rita suggested a change to early evening might be a better option. She was so right! As we arrived, the day-trippers were leaving, which allowed us room to move on the water without too much interference. Yes, Rita had us SUP-ing within minutes on our first lesson! It was so much fun to paddle out on the lagoon, fish jumping like crazy all around us. What better way to end the day than quietly paddling across the water as the sun slowly sank below the horizon. Fabulous experience and I can't wait to get out there with Rita and West Coast Stand Up Paddle again!

The Oceanside Harbor is another place to check out if you are near the pier and in the area. There…read moreis a lot of paid parking if you want to park steps away, but if you are willing to walk 750 feet or so, there is also free parking. The harbor has a mix of shopping, dining, whale watching, and other assorted businesses to check out. There are restaurants, coffee shops, boat rentals, jet ski and kayak rentals, places to store your boat, souvenir shopping, etc. There is a lighthouse, and there are sidewalks so you can walk from one end all the way to the other end out by the ocean. And down by some of the boats are plenty of seals / sea lions to check out. They like to hang out on the dock sunbathing, fighting, frolicking, and general shenanigans. During the holidays they have boat parades, and it is fun to watch them cruise by all lit up. Pictures and videos attached.

Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, and watching the boats and wildlife adds to the peaceful vibe. Great place for a stroll or just soaking in the ocean air!
