Wow. Two words, professional and fun!! Recently came here sporadically with a good friend because she purchased a paddleboarding groupon. Her other friend bailed, so I became the lucky candidate. Fine by me, I said! Not knowing what to expect. My boyfriend wanted to come along too, and George, the owner have him a reduced price which was very very nice of him so that we all three could enjoy the experience and all have fun. Let me tell you... I was blown away with how qualified and well-rounded George was and immediately felt secure since he knew exactly what he was doing! They provided us with the boards and paddles and he helped each of us get on while instructing us how to paddle and maneuver the board, before eventually leading us away. He was kind enough to help us all when we needed it, and made for such a wonderful memorable experiment by snapping photos that I'll always remember. It was difficult and scary at first, but it became easier as I conquered my fear. Now, I actually want to get better and come again! Hopefully work up to doing more on the board and hopefully without life jacket next time lol. I'm definitely bringing friends and coming back! So much fun! read more

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! I bought a Groupon for my original friend to come tag along as a Spring Break treat however she flaked! So I asked my other friend to come along and her boyfriend wanted to come try it out too. On the morning of our reservation, I was slightly bummed that it was typical Oceanside "May Gray" weather although it's March! However, I get to the place a little early and was waiting for my fashionably late friends, so I decided to go and meet George! He's a 6X World Guinness Record holder, Cycling Instructor, and Retired DEA! I'm sure I'm missing more of his accolades, as if this list wasn't intimidating enough! Nonetheless, he is NOT an intimidating person at all! After my tardy for the party friends got there, we all headed down to the dock right there in front of Jolly Roger's to get started on our paddleboarding excursion! I was slightly worried for my friend because she can only kinda swim, but there's a life jacket if needed. George took our photo and it was my turn to get on the board! I was the same nervous excited like I get on a first date, but I had my friends there too, so it was more excitement!We all get out on the water, accomplished! Then it was time to get on our feet! Oh crap was going through my mind, but I figured here we go! I took about maybe a total of 5 secs on the board before falling in! George was so nice to help me get my ass on the board, which isn't as easy as it looks, but then again I haven't worked out in a year, sooo it was a struggle! George was there the whole 20 minutes of me trying to get back on the board, but was so nice and professional because he was so worried I was going to get sick or really cold due to my whole body going in for a sea water bath! After all that's said and done, I had such a wonderful time! My friends were a little better at it than me, but that just means I have to come back again and show them up! read more

The morning of my reservation as my whole family is ready to go, I get an email saying that my reservation has been cancelled due to busy water ways. They accepted my reservation at a time when they knew the harbor would be busy due to Harbor Days, a once a year event. No phone call, no apology just your reservation has been cancelled. Found this place on Groupon. So glad I came here for my first experience. George Hood is laid back, no pressure, but good at giving a beginner instructions & confidence. His lesson was really quite simple & easy to remember. He hung around the dock to keep an eye out & give guidance. The harbor is quiet & pretty placid. Good place to learn. DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR BUSINESS!!!! I called three times while on vacation in Oceanside and he NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. On the third attempt he actually answered. I told him I wish he had called three days ago, but I was polite and said I still have three days vacation left and would be flexible with the times. He asked me how many. I said, "Two. I have a Groupon." Then all hell broke loose. He started scolding me for buying his Groupon stating that he has filled his schedule with people who paid full price and won't honor my Groupon. I am really not sure who wrote all those reviews with 5 stars. Most likely, friends of the owner. My experience was not even close to 5 stars. We paid for the paddle board lesson. In reality it was a rent of the boards. The whole lesson consisted of 2 min instructions how to hold the paddle. That's it. The owner even did not help me to get off the board when we returned. So nothing to be excited about. For your money you'll get a board, a paddle and a short conversation with a grumpy old man. That's it. read more

1st star: this guy did the plank for 3 and some hours! He's a world record holder! 2nd star: lesson - he doesn't just hand you a board and throw you out into the water. He gives you the tips and tricks, which is great for beginners. 3rd star: location - he's on the north side by jolly rogers, which is fairly quiet, and not too much boat traffic. Makes for a great, enjoyable ride 4th and 5th star: great rates, good, personable people, and respects the rules of the harbor by making sure his customers do too. Made a reservation for a group of 6 about a week in advance. Got a confirmation via text the night before. Arrived 15 minutes early to pay and sign proper paperwork, as my group and I were leaving to put our belongings into the car, a group of 3 walked in. Doubt they had an appointment because we were the only group schedule for noon that day (said in the text). When we got down to the harbor, the group of 3 was given the boards before is since they already knew how to Paddleboard and didn't need instruction. Normally I'd be completely fine with that, except our entire group wasn't out in the water until LITERALLY AN HOUR after our appointment was set and also leaving us rushing to get back home as most of us were on a strict time constraint (which we made known to the owner who clearly didn't have his priorities set). After leaving 27° weather Just a few days ago and now walking around the Oceanside Harbor In the high 70s, I happened to stumble upon a little paddleboard shop behind the Jolly Roger restaurant. Not something that I would do at all, however, my curiosity got the best of me. As I entered the little shop I was greeted by the enthusiastic owner, Jason, sitting behind his bamboo desk ready to answer all of my Inquisitive questions. The next thing I knew, he was inviting me out onto the water to try out his paddle boards. Wow, could I do this? What an amazing experience! George was very accommodating to our group of 7 people from Boston. We made reservations just 12 hours before. He gave us a great rate, and let us explore the harbor and ocean without a real time limit. At the end of our paddle boarding experience, he taught us some workout moves on the board, which was a treat! Besides paddle boarding being something fun to do, and a great workout, George really made it an exceptional experience. Beautiful day on the harbor, pretty easy to find, gobs of parking, George is definitely the highlight - very good instructor and a real cool guy. Gave us a quick but thorough directions and out we went. Fun on the harbor, amazing amount of wildlife - saw diving boulder of a pelican up close, sea lions playing (in an adult fashion) or maybe they were fighting. My experience at Oceanside Paddleboard was amazing. The staff was incredibly friendly and outgoing, and taught me a ton about paddleboarding. I had no previous experience, but they somehow made me feel completely at ease and gave me all of the instruction I needed. Almost all of my time was spent in the water; they don't waste your time with a lot of on-the-land training (although I'm sure they would if you asked them to). It was a great time and a great price. We had a fantastic experience renting paddle boards here for my son's 12th birthday. The location is right in Oceanside Harbor. There's plenty of free parking! The owner was very friendly and accommodating. The boards were already in the water. He set us up on the boards and gave us a few tips. It was my sons first time. What an awesome experience! I purchased a Groupon deal for me and my teens to go paddleboarding locally. We have been elsewhere once before and Oceanside Paddleboarding was such a better experience! I called to schedule an appointment and George called me back within 1 hour and was able to get us in that same day! So he informed me to meet Sandy out in the front of there location(which is north of Jolly Roger and plenty of convenient parking). We got there and Sandy checked us all in. She allowed us to leave our belongings in their shop and she locked up. When we walked down to the dock she gave us lessons. She even had us paddle on the side of the dock to demonstrate. Which most of us needed to be corrected, so that was awesome! Mind you the place we went before never gave us instructions. She even taught us some quick maneuvering tricks. I really appreciated the paddles and boards. These paddles were adjustable and lightweight. The Oside harbor was an awesome place to paddleboard around. There were plenty other SUP and kayakers. Great experience for my husband's birthday today. Had a Groupon so it was inexpensive and an easy process. Had a quick lesson and were on our way.
