I would describe parasailing more as peaceful than intense/adventure seeking. Next time, I'm bringing a camera to capture the views. We went on a Sunday at 11:00am. It was in the high 70s (F) with beautiful, cloud-free skies. There are limited 2-hour, free parking spots near the businesses and also a free public parking lot within walking distance. The location was easy to find and there were clear signs from the walkway and down a ramp for the only parasailing company in Oceanside, CA. Online booking and waiver signing was simple and check-in 30 minutes before our booked time was easy and efficient. Check-out their military and birthday discounts! Know that they only allow 6 people for each booking time (not including the captain and helper), so time slots can fill up quickly. I went with my husband and sister. We took the 600ft parasail that lasted about 15 minutes in the air. The entire time spent was about 1.5 hours, including check-in, the boat rides out and back in, and one parasail session for the two groups on board at our time slot. If there were 3 couples, each couple would split the time available. There are weight limits (min and max) so keep this in mind and look at details on their website. We are already planning to bring our kids with us next time. The captain and owner, RJ, is a SoCal local and we are so grateful that he persisted in getting his company going. We went out on a motor board named Maverick for an unforgettable experience. We went out from the Oceanside Harbor to the area in front of the south jetty and Oside pier. The weather was perfect, the water beautiful, and the parasailing was peaceful. I thought it would be scary or loud but it wasn't at all. Looking out at the amazing views and down into the blue water was incredible. With our permission, we even got to dip our feet in the water as we were brought back in from the parasail. We also got to see seals, fish and birds while on the boat. We look forward to going again!

For the first time in decades of family…read moregatherings, we'd flaked on scheduling a fishing trip, it was late December, and nobody had room for the five of us. Until Chuck called me back, last minute. "I just got a cancellation -- you still up for fishing?" To be clear, the adventure didn't measure up to some of the more impressive charters I've enjoyed, but it wasn't the time of year where bigger fish, like tuna, were abundant. Chuck said we'd be hunting for Sheepshead and Rockfish (not to be confused with east coast Rockfish), as we headed out we saw plenty of fat and happy seals, dolphin dropped by to say hello, and my kid stood up top with Chuck, peppering him with questions about his tales from the seas, of which he had many, including a gray whale epic that blew me away. In the end, our lines generally popped with activity, and I never mellowed over that genuine intrigue about deep sea fishing, the "I wonder what's on the end of my line" anticipation as I reeled up a catch. For those of you who wonder how to cook Sheepshead -- it's a rubbery, almost Cod-like fillet -- check the interwebs for crab cake recipes. It took plenty of bread crumbs and more than a little sriracha, but in the end we had winner winner fishin' dinner.
