This charter was spectacular. We have been celebrating our late dad's birthday for the past 20 years with fishing charters in San Diego, and this one was by far the best. The crew was incredibly attentive. I never had to ask for assistance because someone was always there before I even had the chance. It was unexpected and very much appreciated. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Oceanside Sea Center and it was an unforgettable experience. The staff (Kona and Case.. sorry if I'm mispelling it) were incredibly friendly, patient (with my 5 year old) and knowledgeable, making the trip enjoyable from start to finish. Captain David kept close watch to ensure that all members on the trip were catching fish, which I sincerely appreciated (due to being a newbie)! Thank you! I took my dad & my family on a 3/4 day trip, and it was worth every penny. We managed to catch over 20 fish, keeping 17 of them, which made for a fantastic day on the water. The crew's expertise and helpfulness ensured we had a successful and fun-filled fishing adventure. We woke up late so we were happy that you could purchase food so we had delicious breakfast burritos, coffee, warm cup noodles... and for lunch, we had several cheeseburgers, quesadillas, soda, candy, etc! OMG! Wife and I went here SUNDAY 8/31/25 and had a blast! We went on the whale / dolphin tour. Only saw a few dolphins due to it being late in the season, but the trip, the boat, and the captain were AMAZING! He played music and we cruised around in the ocean. This place is great! We went out on the Ponto this past weekend on one of the private chargers. We had 12 people on our boat. I hadn't even caught a big fish before BUT on this trip I caught 9 dorados! It was sooooo fun and the crew was super helpful and nice. Our boat caught 81 dorados altogether. Patty was so friendly on the phone when we called to book a half day fishing trip. I can't tell you how many times we've tried to book ocean excursions at other places only to get some uncaring millenial trying to get us off the phone as quickly as possible. Patty answered all of our questions and really sold us on using Oceanside Sea Center over the other places. From start to finish we enjoyed our experience and would come back again. What an awesome time with my son and his Marine buddy fishing the Pacific Coast. The sign up process was easy, the boarding went smooth, and the trip to the fishing grounds was about an hour boat ride. The reels, rods, and bait setup are pretty darn nice for rentals. The boat has a galley with food, water, and beer which comes in handy for the 5 hour trip. Deckhands and captain were all nice and helpful. Only issue was we ran thin on bait at the end, there seem to be an issue with the holding tank that killed off a good chunk of the bait fish. We caught 12 fish (white bass, scorpion fish, sea bass, and barracuda) but only one of ours was a keeper. Overall great time and awesome adventure. read more

Went out on the Southern California for a half day trip. Totally ruined me, my son, and his girlfriend. It turned us into fishing junkies. The fishing was great and Captain Andy and the crew exceeded all our expectations. We've been coming back as often as we can. This is the new best way to spend a day. The sea is beautiful, the fishing is great. The crew, Jake, Christine, and Marcos are fantastic. So helpful and informative. Captain Andy makes you feel like family and his attitude toward everybody of all ages is incredibly engaging. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. We've been out of this landing many times over the years and the Capitan's and crews are always super friendly, polite, and eager assist in any way - from untangling lines, collecting our catch immediately, even offering to replace your rig themselves quickly to save time and you get back out there to catch more fish! They always make sure that everyone is pre equipped with the correct rigs (even if you bring your own) and offer guidance on what specific skills are required in each type of catch that we are going after. This is positive attitude is not always the case with some of the landings down south where its hit and miss on a good crew. We've experienced some super rude crews who seem to have no interest in assisting or making sure that those of us who paid to fish are taken care of. One unnamed boat captain even hid the best bait for his friends who were on our trip, and the crew would disappear when lines got tangled. After years of so many miserable trips like that, I truly want to thank Oceanside Sea Center for your always great team!! We appreciate you! Especially our last trip on the Southern Cal!! read more

Andy is the best captain ever! He's extremely knowledgeable and super rad If you get a chance take the Socal charter while he's captain, you'll have a blast and catch plenty of fish. Everytime we've gone it's been a blast and seen a variety of fish. It's always fun and awesome to catch fish but the crew is sincerely a highlight of the experience. Andy, Jake, Marcos, Jack, Austin, and Christine do the most to make everyone comfortable and prepared regardless of your own experience. Kudos to the captain and crew on the Blue Horizon all day fishing trip through the Oceanside Sea Center. The Dorado have been biting like crazy and it's been absolutely hectic on these off shore fishing days. We've gone out several times this summer and my experience with Captain Jim Sharp and his deck hands Brett and Matt have been the absolute best experience possible. The captain will get out there and help everyone just as much as the hands with an outstanding disposition. Brett and Matt also also hit it out of the park with their knowledge and friendly attitudes even at the end having to fillet over 150 Mahi at the end. Thank you guys so much for this epic all day experience. This was by far the best time we've had on an all day fishing trip. My sons and I went out for the half-day trip today. What fun! The weather was cloudy, but the sea was glassy. The staff in the Center were friendly and informative. The Southern Cal, the boat we went out on, is smallish, only about 50 feet or so, but rode the swell nicely. We only had 11 people on board today, which was nice, because the crew was extra attentive, friendly, helpful and fast to help out. This was an EASY way to have a first time deep sea fishing experience. It's about as hands-free as you can get. We baited the hooks, but I imagine that they would have done THAT for us if we'd wanted. They also took the fish off the hooks. There is a galley, and they have food and drink , ( sandwiches, beer and soda,) for sale. We got a LOT of fish, most of it smallish, but large enough to keep. Things to bear in mind: 1) you need a sportfishing license which is $$, but that's a legal thing. 2) They DO have poles to rent, and are good about showing how to bait the hooks. 3). They filet your catch for you, this means they clean it, bone it etc. and Jacob does a superb job, but it is NOT free. The little fish cost 1$ each, and the big ones are $2. But it is WORTH it! We got home and had fish and chips for dinner, and nary a bone in sight. We got rockfish, sculpin, halibut, whitefish, and boxfish(?). I don't know if you get to keep the fish if you don't get them filleted. Yes, the whole thing can be expensive, but if you're concerned about the price, go fish from the pier, that's free; you still need a license ( wink) but you won't get near the fish you'll get on this cruise. Today our boat went down the coast to around Encinitas, about 3 miles off-shore. BTW we had cell service the whole trip. Here's a little friendly advice if you suffer from Mal de Mar: NEVER go in the bathroom- on ANY small vessel, they aren't called "vomit-closets" for nothing, stay outside in the fresh air. Don't try reading or watching your phone. Stay in the middle of the boat maindeck, that's the steadiest . As far as Maine life goes, we saw some spinner dolphin, sea lions( in the harbor), but that was all. The only thing that could have been improved was the time spent getting to the fishing ground. On the five hour trip we spent two hours en-route/return. That left only 3 hours to fish, which was fun but it seemed to fly by. I want to do this again! read more

And when it came to fishing his supposed experience didn't match with our total catch. Honestly just a disappointing experience we spent good money as a family and wanted to have but ended up having a very long and uncomfortable experience. Awesome sport fishing landing. I honestly didn't know this place existed. When I first moved here and searched for sportfishing landings this place did not show up. I stumbled on this place accidentally looking for bait, realized what it was and jumped on a boat an hour later. Crew is great. We went fishing yesterday and overall it was just an okay experience. There was 6 paying customers on the boat and the rest were employees on their day off with their friends. Everyone was fishing including the captain and cook. Only two deckhands were monitoring the customers and helping out. It seemed pretty unprofessional all these people were on the boat fishing when "we" were the paying customers. It was also notable that none of the paying customers were the ones that caught fish. Only the crew were the ones who caught something. I realize that is fishing....but more effort should have been put on the "paying" customers to catch something. It seemed very unprofessional and we weren't the only ones thinking this... Also their fish numbers they put down is including what the crew is catching! So it's not what just paying customers are catching. (When they say anglers it's everyone with a fishing pole in the water! Not just paying customers) We would NOT go fishing with them again! read more

Chubasco: Started off with a problem with one of the engines. Took about 30 minutes to repair before we headed out for 2 1/2 - 3 hours to the first spot looking for tuna. We were told that tuna was promising spent a good hour looking and even setting up our gear for tuna but was disappointed. we then set out for rock fish, came o a spot, maybe 1 or 2 good side caught. kept moving around for more rock fish, still the same caught. In fact, everyone was catching sand fish. I say my experience on this trip was disappointing. I was hoping to fish for different species. read more

Went out on the Southern Cal Saturday 8/27. We went with another family for their son's birthday. The crew was amazing from the very beginning. The deck hands were rigging everyone up and were a joy to talk to. Overall the deck hands went above and beyond to make sure our trip was fantastic. They helped with everything, educated everyone on the fish we were bringing up. Small group of anglers so the crew got to fish too and every bite offered to let one of our kids reel it up. Captain found a great spot where we caught lots of fish. Gallery was amazing, burgers were excellent. Prices really fair. The captain on the loud speaker got everyone to sing happy birthday. It was one of those trips where you get back and say "man we had so much fun, what an awesome day and experience". We are already looking for our next trip and hopefully get the same crew. I am that person who reads reviews and research my plans. I was stuck between Helgrens and Oceanside Sea Center.. So I decided to do a walk up to the office and see how they reacted to my 20 questions.. Quick witted, funny and Just plain friendly.. They gave me the -"WOW I need to go Fishing VIBE" they won my business just for this note. 2nd The next morning I had a 10 am depart time with arrival at 9:15 ish to get my Rod, Reel and bait situated.. They handled that with no issues. 3rd got on the boat and it was just a small group total of 5 fisherman 2 crew.. Talk about personal and lots of fun.. The laughs started from Boarding. Captain Jim & Deck Adam Gave us the run down and where, when and how and the rest was to set sail. Being that it was myfirst time sea fishing.. They took their time and explained everything. 4th had great food and beverages on board - no need to bring anything but yourself and a sweatshirt. I couldn't have asked for a better day. 5th We landed bonito, sea bass, white fish, & sheep head fish. The unexpected thing to happen on this trip is we came upon a pod of dolphins not just 5-10 more like a couple hundred-- It was breathtaking. PS... Best experience ever! We had a party of 10 and ever single person caught more than 4 fish each. It was an awesome experience, most of our party this was their 1st time fishing and under 14. The day went very fast. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. Dave- the skipper was friendly. We had a teen who wasn't following boat rules, he was firm and stern to make sure they listen and they did. if we weren't catching fish in 10 mins he moved us to other areas where it there were more fish. He was very good at locating the fish. Jason-cook super nice guy. He came out and helped all the kids put bait on hook and cast line. Friendly and made food fast. Max- not so friendly and seem annoyed that the kids were clueless at fishing. Max's a teen kid who need some people skills. He just has to understand these are city people who never do this and want to experience not as a profession but 1 day adventure. People pay $48 each so they can have the professional help them. Lucky for him his boat mates were so delightful and helpful that he didn't ruin the day. Mike- great job on helping everyone understand the baiting and casting process. He was super friendly approachable. He cleaned the fish out for us and let us take pics. It was half a day trip and it felt like an hour because we all were having a blast. They had a deli with good food and drinks,price was same as the harbor price. Boat was clean, bathroom clean and so was deli. All and all it was a great trip.
