I wouldn't recommend bringing your board here. The experience was very unprofessional from start to finish. Franklin missed the agreed-upon timeline and hadn't even started on my board when I followed up. He also quoted $150 for two small rail dings, which felt excessive. Early on, it was concerning that he didn't recognize what a Sharpeye was or know the shaper behind it. I gave him a chance because he seemed nice and I wanted to support a small business, but unfortunately it didn't work out. When I called to arrange pickup, he didn't remember who I was or my board. He then offered to complete the repair in an hour while I waited, which I declined. He had taken a $100 deposit, which I requested back. He seemed upset about that, and after refunding me, he told me to leave and not come back. Overall, a disappointing experience. read more

Super sub par. You want sub par jobs go to this guy or Moose. They both do sub par work and have sub par communication. If you want a pro to handle your repair, go to lord of the dings - he's done a good amount of repair jobs for me, tells me what it's going to be for pricing with pics sent over Instagram and that's what I pay when I show up to pick up. If you need a repair on your board this is the first place I would go to, ESPECIALLY if you have an older board or a board with a design. I came in with an ugly repair on my board from another shop. That they didn't get back to me for two months! The owner Franklin was super nice and not only helped me restore the color and design, but he even walked me through all the steps and let me apply the color myself. Had it out that day. A good quality repairs. Definitely knows what he's doing with fiberglass and resin. Could improve communication regarding length of time required to get it done and final cost, but sometimes you don't know how bad things are underneath the glass. Very disappointed in my dealing with owner Franklin Pierce at Impulse Surf. The facts: 1. He charged twice as much to glass my wooden board as three other surf shops. I only agreed to the price because no one else could get it done inside of three months. After making it clear at our initial meeting that I needed this board ASAP to deliver to a client in Manhattan Beach, he said it would only take a couple of weeks. When I called a week later to check on the progress, he hadn't begun the work 2. After encountering several challenges, Franklin began making excuses for not being able to deliver the board in time. He said that he needed to strip the glass and start over, but would be charging even more money to redo what he couldn't get right the first time. When I asked him just to finish sanding and polishing the board, he insisted upon being paid an additional $200 before giving me my board back unfinished. 3. When I took the unfinished surfboard to a ding repair shop in Encinitas who agreed to complete the work for an additional $250, I found out that the work Franklin had done was substandard. 4. I returned to Impulse Surf to pick up a bottle of India ink that I had left there, and reported to Franklin my new understanding of the problem with his lack of knowledge as well as with his work. When I proposed that he refund the $200 he had additionally charged for work that had to be redone, he called me a "fucking asshole", told me to get out of his shop and that he never wanted to see me again. read more

My experience at this shop sucked, he quoted 2wks, 180 to refurbish a old school board . I thought that was excessive considering the dings but still figured it will be done right! Nope the color on the dings, not even close! He broke my fin and expecting me to pay for it. Now about 2 month later and I go pick it up he charges me 110 extra for excess dings , and tells me he can repair or order a extra fin for extra charge! Paid the final bill and ran out extra fast before he charged me for using a parking spot! Bad customer service and careless work!!! read more

Impulse surf went above and beyond my expectations with a critical fin box repair & top deck large ding . The owner was friendly, knowledgeable . I was invited inside and shown the tight clean workshop where they do it all from small dings to full restoration & rad custom wooden surf racks for the house/garage . The employee behind the counter had me fill out paper work that morning quick brief deposit finished that day notified by phone call . The total came out less than what they quoted as I picked up the following day after work , surfing the next day! When I came in for pick up I was blown away full buffed & clean surf board & even VERY surprised to see that a previous ding that I had repaired in my garage was also sanded & touched up with a little extra TLC . Dinged my surfboard and went to get it repaired at impulse. The ding repair was agreed at $40 between me and Frankie. When I get there, he tells me it was going to be $55. The clear coat applied over the resin was not sanded down so now I have a pretty remarkable size of clear coat showing on my board. He told me one hour to repair, and the board isn't complete 3 hours later when I show up. He also gave me back my board with sanding residual all over the deck without cleaning it. read more

CUSTOMER BEWARE! Franklin can be deceptive when it comes to a quote. I gave him my buckled paddle board for him to fix. He gave me an estimate of $250+. I left him $100 deposit. He called me about 3hrs later to see if I wanted to look at the board (after he removed the deck pad) and I told him I wasn't able to come by and asked again if it was still going to be $250 and he said yes. A week had gone by and I hadn't heard from him so I called and my board is now costing $336 and that's not including sanding it down, color match and putting the deck pad on. Beware when you go see him. He never called to let me know it was going to be an additional $150. Not pleased with his services. read more

I am happy with the work performed by Franklin who I believe is a very nice man. Franklin's rate is $65 per hour of labor. If you agree to a price up front for repairing your board, it is worth spending extra time making sure that is not an estimate in order to avoid frustration on the back end. Franklin worked on my board over a period of 3 days but it did take 11 days to get my board back. I found a new ding on my board when I went to pick it up but after disagreeing on who caused the ding, Franklin was gracious enough to fix it at no additional charge while I waited. read more
