Surf Ride has definitely been a staple for my family for years. We love coming in to check out new boards, wetsuits, clothes, etc. While prices may be high on clothing items, they tend to have decent deals on boards, wetsuits, and surfing gear in general. They have a lot of variety which makes it such a great surf shop to check out. It's really easy to find parking on the side of the building in their lot and/or street parking. Their customer service is great as well as they always greet us, ask us if we need any help, and also help when we do have questions. Everyone is really kind and helpful honestly. If you are bigger than a size 6/8 women don't even try to find any clothing. The brands they carry have larger sizes... They just don't carry them in this store. Also shoes... Most women's shoes only went up size 9. One of the brands they carry said an XL shoe size in women's was an 8-9! Really disappointing experience, they need a lesson in size inclusivity. read more

Dropped by this easy to find spacious shop while visiting in town doing alot of surfing in the area. Found a changing mat for another surfer in the family and the wetsuit booties I was looking for. Had lots of leashes to choose from too. Staff was friendly and made conversation aside from the usual "did you find everything you were looking for?" which was welcoming and nice. Decent selection of boards and overall gear and priced as you would expect for the typical surf brands. I'd drop by again for sure the next time in the area if I need anything. read more

Horrible staff My buddy was trying to get service on his phone in the store for his banking but was unable to, he gave me his wet suit so he could go outside and get service, as he leaves 2 workers loudly start asking each other is he walking out with said wet suit when I was right there holding it, so they chased him down and when I addressed them for profiting my friend there response was "there's a lot of theft" so you chase down every customer that leaves your store without buying something? Horrible workers who love to profile people as soon as you walk in and shoot you with dirty looks. read more

My brother took me here to upgrade my equipment after quite a number of years without use. Kyle and the staff (wish I remembered their names) upstairs in the board area, were exceptional! I'm not a young guy and needed quite a bit of help choosing the right gear for me. All the staff was friendly supper knowledgeable and pleasure to work with. I'm an old man. Back in the day (before I joined the daily 8-5 grind) I use to surf and be young. I decided that I wanted to get back into it this summer and needed a new board. I did a little research and found a few boards that I wanted to look at, and I emailed several stores (Surf Ride, Jacks, Ride Shack, Huntington Surf and Sport) because I didn't want to go there unless they had them in stock. Well, nobody got back to me except Surf Ride. So, I was happy to make the hour drive down there from Long Beacg just for the fact that they were courteous enough to answer an email. Well, so I go down to Surf Ride and was really surprised by the selection they had. They had all the brands (Firewire, Haydenshapes, Lost, CIS, JS) I wanted to see, in the sizes I needed. Josh, came up to me right away and asked if I needed help. I laid it out unembarrasingly and said "I'm an old man and need something that's easy to paddle and catch waves with, and will be good for a break like Huntington or Bolsa Chica." Josh was very friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. He showed me several different boards, showed me the differences in design and what that might do, and then laid out the 3 that seemed right for me next to each other. He explained the differences in shape and tail designs, and answered all my questions. In the end, I chose a Hypto Krypto, mainly because it would be easy to paddle and versatile for different conditions (and it looked the best). Josh reassured me that any 3 would have been good choices, and that I would like this one. All in all, I strongly recommend that you go to Surf Ride if you are looking for a board. They have so many to choose from, the sales people are helpful, and you won't regret it. read more

I brought my 14-year-old here to get her first wetsuit since this is where I bought my first many years ago. Aiden and another young lady were there, and they were super chill and really helpful. It took a while, because wetsuits are really challenging to try on the first time. We stayed a bit after closing and they were totally cool with it. I was worried that the dude at the register would be a bit more upset about staying a bit late, but even he took the time to give us several good pointers. Although I see a review here about unhelpful high school students wanting to socialize, I disagree with the shade it puts on the atmosphere. When I asked for help, I got it. And I love the lack of pressure, so this is way better than having people in your face bugging you to buy stuff. I'd suggest socializing with them. You'd find out some are in college for engineering and business degrees, and are worth spending time with. Totally made my day, and I'll be back. Is this place more expensive than other places? I honestly don't know. What I do know is that I loved the selection and felt that I paid a fair price for the products and service. I don't mind if they make a few bucks when I'm treated this well. read more

Surf Ride is a pretty neat surf shop with locations in both Oceanside and Solana Beach. This particular location is fairly large and has an excellent selection of boards, waxes, gears and even a fully stocked skate shop. The service is solid and the products sold are extremely well made. Overall, a bit commercial but a solid surf shop located within walking distance to the water. I have been playing around with the idea of getting into surfing (once I get over that pesky ocean phobia) and decided it might be time to invest in a wetsuit. I was in the area and had some time to kill, so I thought I would browse the selection here. The young man who helped me was RIDICULOUSLY nice and helpful. I was kinda intimated to walk into a surf shop and admit I didnt know the first thing about buying a wetsuit, but he was helpful without being condescending at all. He patiently went over the different parts of the wetsuit, how they differ at different price points, how the different brands are cut differently, how long I could expect them to last, and how to take care of them. It was wetsuit 101, and I can honestly say I feel like I can walk into any shop now and know exactly what I am looking for. I wasnt quite ready to make the commitment and buy a wetsuit right then, but when I am ready, I will come back to Surf Ride to buy one. read more

Yeah...absolutely SICK surf shop. I could drop SO much money in here. Right off the 5 freeway, Surf Ride is convenient access if you're travelling from LA to San Diego. They've got a great selection of everything in here from boards (ah those glorious boards) to surf gear to clothing to videos to wetsuits (XCel is my preferred wet suit vendor and they have a good selection in here) I could drop thousands in this store in a blink of an eye. People working here are laid back, helpful, and knowledgeable. My preferred surf shop for getting almost everything. The customer service here hasn't improved in 20 years. Still horrible. I walk in to the skate shop at 10:30 and there's nobody there. No employees and no other customers. I search the store and finally find an employee at the main registers who says he'll help in the skate shop. You're welcome I'm ethical and didn't steal a bunch of stuff. I walk back to the skate shop and of course there's now a crowd of customers waiting for help . The employee walks up, doesn't ask who was there first, and walks over to the lady who was the last to arrive. So I interject and the employee half-assedly helps me find a couple shitty decks for my 7 year old daughter that were kept piled under a counter. Probably thinking I'M a jerk who just cut in front of everybody. Get a clue Surf Ride. You're a multimillion dollar business. I'm pretty sure you can find and train better employees than this. No local I know actually enjoys shopping at your store because your employees suck on so many different levels. It's a necessary hassle to get the product we need, a default stop because there are no other surf/skate stores nearby...yet. 2 stars for the product, zero for employees. read more

I visited the Oceanside store for the first time in ~5 years today. It was ~ 10:15 AM on 11/14/19. I used to come here all the time when I lived closer to the coast. I generally in the past always head good experiences here. My purchases were limited to leashes, pads, wax, etc. Today I came in to look for a new pair of pants. I grabbed a couple of different pairs and flannels to try one. I noticed the dressing rooms were locked so I asked the younger adults behind the desk if they could unlock one. They happily replied yes. This is when the subject of my review comes into play. At this time, a late 30's to mid 40's gentleman with shorter dark hair wearing a retro orange/blue padres hat said he would unlock one for me. Great I thought. Then as we were walking over he pointed to the sign by the changing rooms which details shoppers being monitored by security cameras and made and off color remark "~they're watching you man..." to me. This caught me off guard. I'm not sure if it was just a bad attempt at humor or if he was serious. I think it was the latter as I responded with a nervous "that's kinda creepy" but he remained serious. I'm a pretty non-confrontational guy so I didn't really want to ask if he was serious in assuming I was going to steal something. I'm 33 and haven't had to deal with an accusation like this before. I'm not the type to just to the "i'm never shopping here again..." clause, but I doubt it will be my first choice to return here after this. Hopefully this is all just a mis-understanding, but if not, maybe we can be more cognizant of comments made to customers. All that being said, the younger adults behind the counter were very helpful and cheerful during my checkout experience. read more

This review is for Surf Ride Surf Shop in Oceanside. They have the largest selection of wetsuits, surfboards, accessories, and clothing in North County that I've seen! But the main reason I am writing this review is because I was buying my first surfboard and was happy that I had a very laid back, cool, expert named Josh helping me. I had been doing quite a bit of research the past few months and going into various shops. I have to say that Josh was by far the best. I had narrowed down my choices and Josh patiently explained to me some of the differences and advantages of various boards, including ones I had not previously considered. In addition, I found that as someone who started surfing in the past year that Josh took my questions seriously and he seemed truly interested in making sure that I found a board that would suit me. At some of the other shops I went to in North County, I felt ignored or pushed into a much larger board than I think I would need. I bought a beautiful Walden board and Josh installed the fins and helped me learn how to tie down the board properly to my car rack. I am a very happy surfer! Thanks so much, Josh! I haven't been to every surf shop in the county but their surfboard inventory is enormous and probably one of the biggest I've ever seen. They stock all the big name brands of course but my favorite is checking out the alternative shapes they bring in from lesser known, local shapers. There's absolutely going to be a board upstairs that's the right fit for every ability level of surfing. read more
