Simon was AWESOME! First, please know that I called on a Friday a little after 5:15pm... prior to calling Simon I contacted 3 other Locksmiths who were listed as 24/7 emergency locksmith, however I guess there are certain things Yelp doesn't have control over. That said, I explained my situation and said that I needed to get someone out the same day since my customer we had an urgent need. Only 40 minutes later (maybe less) he was on sight figuring out the best solution to secure a front door that was kicked in by the police (long story, not relevant to this review). In the end, Simon and team took care of my customer!! This is key, since customer services is ALWAYS #1 in our book. I also appreciate that he didn't overcharge for the emergency service - the cost was fair and reasonable. The customer was happy, which means that we were happy. I appreciated two things: 1) He took the call (not an answering service) 2) He gave us an ETA and showed up on time, if not earlier 3) They performed a prompt and professional service & 4) They made the customer feel safe and secure. Simon came in a timely manner. Opened a lock for one of our CNC machines fairly quickly. But he is a crook. He charged us close to $300 to open one lock in about 5-10 minutes. Told us the price after he opened it so we had no choice but to pay him. Then he told us to give him a good review and he would give us "discount". I got locked out of my house somehow early evening on a weeknight. My first time ever. I quickly searched Yelp and Simon was the second name I saw. I called and he said he could be there within 30 minutes. Simon arrived within the quoted timeframe. He tried his best to open the locks without needing to drill and spent appropriately 30-45 minutes, but my locks refused to cooperate. Overall, Simon was responsive, friendly, and nice. I've given this business the lowest rating allowed and recommend potential customers look elsewhere for locksmith services. I do so for the following reasons: SERVICE QUALITY The job was to replace three fence gate locks. Josie the installer ran into a problem with the front gate that had an electric strike: the latch bolt hit the strike plate too low and so could not latch. His solution was to remove the electric strike and strike plate, detach the electric strike from the plate, reinstall the plate only and then file out the plate opening so the bolt would latch. He must have just thrown away the electric plate. This "repair" made the call box unusable. Another locksmith installed a new electric strike but ran into the same problem. His solution was simple: grind the bottom of the bolt just a fraction of an inch. The old bolt that Josie removed had an obvious notch at the bottom (see picture) If he had looked at it, he would have seen an easy solution to his problem. His mistake cost my association $500 to fix. COST & INVOICING This locksmith charged a whopping $433 per changed lock. The original handwritten invoice totaled $1,918; that was crossed out and $1,300 written in. Another typed invoice shows a subtotal of $2,239.45, a more whopping $746 per lock!. A "47% overall discount...was applied for the customer." I have no idea why the discount was applied, unless it was to make the customer feel better about the extremely high $1,300 cost. Finally, neither invoice included the business address or phone number and and one shows a business name that does not match the one on Yelp. CUSTOMER SERVICE I talked to someone named Steve about these issues. He denied that Josie removed the electric strike, even though it was there prior to his visit. He refused to come out and look at the situation unless he was paid $60. He would not conjecture why anyone else but his locksmith would remove the electric strike. "That's not my job" he noted, angrily. When asked about the magic discount, he suggested that if that was bothersome, just send him a check for the higher amount. On the lack of an address or phone number, he forcefully argued that he could design his invoice any way he wanted to. Steve was rude, angry, argumentative and bullying. I apologize for all this detail, but I really have no other way to communicate with this company. It has no website or email. Talking to Steve is impossible. read more
