Totally incompetent. It took them 5 hours to remove broken exhaust's stud from my Vanagon, charging me over $300.I was there waiting, watching the process and praying that they don't destroy my car. Before I made my appointment, they reassured me that they have the tools and expertise to do excellent job. Now, instead of using the previously explained to me methods, they choose to grind the stud, drill through without even bothering to raise the vehicle of the floor for better access. I took the vehicle home, replaced all 4 studs again with ones of better quality and it didn't take long for the one they worked on to come out. They refused to take responsibility for the issue blaming me instead. Well, I own this vehicle since 1987 and ever since the warranty expired I have been servicing it all by myself including some major undertaking like replacing cylinder head, piston rings, rack and pinion, radiator; you name it, I had successfully done it. I am electro-mechanical engineer and no stranger to cars. To cut a long story short, the good part is that the lesson has been learned and they will never touch my vehicle again. I've had this shop do some repairs on my Mercedes Benz and I'd have to say that they are truly a customer focused business. The first trip there was due to the "check engine" light coming on, they couldn't find any diagnostic code fault for this so they recommended putting on a new gas cap due to an apparent blemish on the old cap's seal. Problem fixed, and the owner stated that he felt he couldn't charge me for the hours of diagnostic work because no positive results were found. My stepson's car was needing a front differential, he found one on Craigslist and had this shop perform the work to install it, the work was top notch and much cheaper than the Oregon dealer had estimated for the same repair. I think George ( the owner) is fair and competent, in today's world the car repair business is a challenging thing to run, with all of the hi-tech stuff used on today's cars shops must have a wide range of knowledge and an even wider range of ability, Unlimited V-Dub has both. Finding good mechanics to repair your car is often viewed as a matter of luck, but I use Yelp and other sites to help me make good consumer decisions, I think you will find this shop to be a good choice. read more

We have used unlimited v-dub several times and have always had amazing service. This is a local family ran business, which makes me love it even more. We have had work done on a 1962 bug, a 1993 cabriolet and a 1990 Honda Accord. The cabriolet was not running when we purchased it and we took it straight to unlimited V-dub. George kept in close contact with us on what was going on with it and where the cost was. He did a great job with it as he has all our other cars. Everything that has been done here has been done very well and for a reasonable price. We will always use unlimited v-dub and I have referred friends to them who also received exceptional service. I highly recommend them. Don't own a VW call them they work on other brands too, you won't be sorry. read more

Took my car in because a light was on they did diagnostic to determine issue but never made the repairs as I requested. Initially after dropping my car off I was feeling confident they would make sure everything on my written list I handed to them would be completed but I must have paid at least 400 dollars for repairs in 2 trips and all that gone done is an oil change, 1 head light (I told them to do both), switching out the gas door switch on drivers side and trim of the window switch, and they never even fixed the light in my car. Your better off using the dealership where they can be held accountable for shoddy service. I now have to take my car in again but this time I wont try and save a few $$ and use a reliable dealership for my VW Beetle so I can make sure my car is maintained properly. read more

Terrible experiance. A dealership wouldve been faster and cheaper. Mike is completly unreliable and will dodge your calls when he fails to meet quoted deadlines for weeks. Then try to charge hundreds more than a "worst case scenario" quote at the end of it after the repairs required far less than "worst case scenario". Highly recomend getting anything he says in writting or just avoiding this shop entirly. read more

I have a very split review. Some things about my only visit here were great, others were irritating. I brought my 97 BMW 328i in to be looked at because the brake lights were inop and it wasn't anything regular like a bulb, relay, or even brake light switch. I had college class that day and called around the time they opened, 830 and asked if they were available and how long they thought it would take. Reasonably so, they said that it would depend on the issue, and could take up to a couple hours to fix depending upon what was wrong. So i brought it in. My class was at noon, so i called around 1130 just to check in, and asked politely how it was going with my car. George got on the phone and was extremely rude in tone saying that "my car was not the only one on the lot" and i told him that I understood. He said that he didn't do part runs until 4 pm and it would need a new tail light assembly and bulb sockets. Fair enough, he said it would be done before closing time. Around 330 he called and surprisingly was very nice, but it was because they got or received the wrong tail light assembly. I was frustrated, but still understood. The car was ready at 10AM the next morning as promised which I appreciated, and the total was about 388. 180 for the assembly, 35 for the bulb sockets and an hour and a half of labor. Seemed a little high, but I could live with it, that's BMW for you. Steve, a mechanic there however was AWESOME. If you get to deal with Steve, it's worth everything else. He showed me exactly what was wrong with my old parts, where the contacts were shot, and showed me other places that would need attention soon and explained why. If the review was based solely off him it would be 4 or 5 stars. However, after I left I noticed my right signal bulb was out (which wasnt before), and later my left brake light bulb as well. I did not want to take the time to take it back to replace just bulbs, so i ran to autozone and did it myself really quick, which still costed me another 10 bucks I shouldn't have had to spend because of their lousy lack of attention to detail. This shop could have earned my future business and better review with friendlier customer service from George. Also, you're always looking for a shop that goes above and beyond, and having to replace the bulbs after a 400 dollar brake light repair is far from that. read more

Took my ML63 AMG to Unlimited Automotive Repair for a 2nd opinion/diagnosis on a light front end clunking issue. Another shop (highly regarded by reviews and starts with the letter 'A' on Mill Plain) had erroneously (I don't believe they actually even properly looked at it) diagnosed it as a bad steering rack and wanted $1750 to fix it. Mike at Unlimited took it in and checked it out. By noon that day he called to report that the right inner tie rod was bad. I asked him when he would be able to fix it and he said he could have it done by closing that same day. I had him do both left and right sides which he did at a reasonable total cost of $450 including tax. The clunking is now gone and Mike at Unlimited saved me $1300. Mike has totally earned our trust and business! Unlimited Automotive Repair is now our go to shop for both my wife's and my Mercedes. It took me a long time to decide whether or not to post this because I hate to hurt anyone's business, but every time I think about how much they hurt my wallet, it get's easier. I purchased a kit car with an air cooled vw engine in it. It leaked oil, it ran bad, the front end needed work and I wanted a short shift kit installed and few other items repaired. I bought the car and had it towed directly to the shop. I told them I wanted it to be perfect, I wanted it to run perfect, steer perfect and brake on a dime. It also need some work on a tail light. The car sat in this shop for almost 2 months. They finally started working on it after I got a little testy with George's wife who answers the phone, from that point on she was rude to me. George finally calls me one day and tells me they did a complete tune up on the car but when they started it they discovered that the engine was bad. Now my thoughts are, why the hell did they not start the car and run it prior to tuning it up, did they do any kind of diagnoses? NO! So George tells me he has this great engine he can sell me for $1200. I tell him to go ahead and install it. At the same time he tells me that the steering gear needs to be replaced, I tell him replace it. Several more weeks go by and he finally calls me to come pick up the car, his exact words were "it runs like a swiss watch". Well, it actually ran like a broken timex. The car just barely made it home, not to mention, the car now steers worst than what it did prior to him replacing the steering gear. I call George, he says bring it back. Took it back, waited a few weeks and picked it up again when George calls and says it done. COST: $3,400.00 I got an engine that leaks oil all over the place, leaks gas, has a very loud and distinct knocking in the engine for the first 5 minutes when started, the steering is still worst than it was when I brought the car to them and the new steering gear is leaking a lot of oil. I don't think they ever even looked at the brakes and with the installation of the shift kit it now pops out of reverse. They did a great job fixing the tail light, that's what I paid $3,400 for. We have been taking our vehicles to this shop since 1983 when my husband had a VW Scirocco. They are hardworking and honest at this shop. Not all problems are clearcut to track downs and solve, and sometimes with older vehicles (I have a 1987 Nissan pickup) you may have multiple issues creating overlapping problems. They provide estimates, keep me informed of how the work is going ,and if I am concerned about any thing I can call them and get my vehicle in for a double-check. They also know they cannot make an old vehicle into a new one, but they are honest about what they can do to keep my old one running soundly. read more
