i reached out to jeff regarding an attempted break in on my car. jeff came out to my car, took…read moreapart the steering wheel column to see the damage and what needed to be replaced. then he charged my dad $300 for an hour of work, again all he did was take my steering wheel completely apart. he said he charges $150 and hour, but the reason he charged my dad $300 was because the next day he was supposedly going to get the parts and he was charging the extra $150 for driving around to get the parts. i left out of town for a week and jeff had known this. when i get back into down for three days straight jeff tells me he is going to come out to my car and he would literally say "ill be out today" and would never show and not tell me he wasnt showing. he pretty much scammed my dad out of $300. i'm not sure if the job was too advanced for him because he is a mobile mechanic idk if they can't do as advanced stuff i literally don't know, but he left me hanging and i had to go somewhere else. i feel like he took advantage of my situation and my dad because i am alone in portland and im 22. my dad doesn't even live here and was being nice enough to help me. to charge someone $300 for work you didnt do is ridiculous. if your rate is $150 and you were there for only an hour then my dad should have only been charged $150 for the time you were there. i ended up taking my car to the shop, and the total repair cost at the shop was lower than the service i would've gotten from jeff. thought he tried to convince my father and i that he was cheaper. this really sucked because i am by myself and to be left hanging with no car, and lack of communication is very disheartening and scary.

We knew the alternator was shot and that the battery needed replacement. Local body shops quoted some pretty steep prices and weren't sure when they could get to it. Our neighbors referred us to James Mobile Auto Repair. He was able to come out to our house the following day, and confirmed it was the battery and alternator. He ordered the parts and was back the next day to complete the work. He is really kind, informative, fair priced, knowledgeable, and just did a great job. When I arrived he slammed the hood of my car down and continued to yell at me. He refused to return my keys despite my asking him to let me pay so I could leave. He ranted that I didn't trust him and that I would have to fix the problem on my own (knowing I didn't know how) and telling me the engine would probably fail on my way home. Nice, since he was forcing me to leave but not actually letting me pay and get out. Finally he charged me almost $200 for the diagnostic. I'm glad I had someone else with me, because his behavior would probably have been worse and gone on longer had I been alone. He also complained that he hadn't been able to have lunch due to working on my car. He's right, his behavior has shown him to be untrustworthy and I'm grateful to have only lost a few hundred dollars. I've been to dozens of mechanics over the years and have never had an experience like this.

I found out when I heard a strange noise when I turned on the fan. I did a little research online and realized it was a dirty cabin air filter. It took an hour and a half but I replaced the cabin air filter myself and it was choked with a 1 inch layer of dust. When I opened the hood they had left a small wrench in the engine bay right where the hood latch is, and my oil dipstick was gone. Stay away!
