This is NO LONGER a reputable business. Maybe it was when it started but now it runs on scare tactics and deceit. I came in for an oil change and left paying 1600 for brake work and other things i was told were necessary. They didn't even lube the brakes for goodness sake. What should have been less than $70 with coupon turned into $1600+ for shoddy work. Never again. This business CANNOT be trusted. read more

Do not go to this shop. I purchased a Groupon that clearly included a full synthetic oil change, tire rotation, and tire top-off. The shop knew exactly what I purchased both when I scheduled and again when I arrived. After the service was completed, they suddenly added an extra $45 in "fees" that were supposed to be included. There was zero mention of any additional cost beforehand only after the work was already done. When I called to question it, the owner was rude and dismissive, hiding behind "fine print" that still does not justify the upcharge or their lack of transparency. This is nothing more than bait-and-switch pricing. If you value honesty and clear pricing, stay far away and take your business elsewhere. Follow up to Kevins comment Kevin, This is clearly a problem, and I'm not the only one saying it. Multiple customers have had the same experience buying your Groupon and then being told afterward to "read the fine print." Bottom line: if there are significant extra charges, that needs to be clearly communicated upfront either at booking or when the vehicle is checked in. Instead, nothing was mentioned until after the work was completed and I was handed a bill. Charging over $100 for what was advertised as a covered service is unreasonable, and the lack of transparency is unacceptable. When I called to address it, being told to "read the fine print" instead of getting a proper explanation or resolution was unprofessional. This is not how you treat a new customer, especially one who could have returned for future business. Absolute scam. My Groupon to save a struggling family some money ended up costing us $100 for an oil change still! Then they tried to scare my husband into doing 1000k of work on break pads and when we declined he tried to tell us there is probably more work that needs done too ..we talked to friends and found another place for only $600 to do everything. Stay far away! * Clearly they have a lot of down time to text me multiple times harassing me and still not giving me an itemized detail for the extra money just kept texting me the Groupon rederict like I can't read. An extra .9 quarts of oil, tax and 7% service fee and 8.99 filter does not make sense for an extra 42 paying $100 for an oil change with a Groupon and going through this crap yeah no thanks. Just NO. I was a customer here for about eight years. Early on, Kevin seemed knowledgeable and approachable, and I liked supporting a local shop. Over time, however, the experience steadily declined. After multiple visits, my car was routinely returned with grease on the steering wheel and carpet. I overlooked it. Costs also began to feel increasingly out of line, including a $1,000 attempt to fix an exhaust noise that produced no results. My final visit involved an oil change and a battery replacement on my 2001 Boxster, which I was preparing to sell. I was quoted $340 for the battery, including a $30 installation fee. I declined the battery and asked that my old one be reinstalled. This led to an aggressive and unprofessional response, including being told I was no longer welcome and receiving repeated texts demanding immediate removal of my car or storage fees would be charged. This was a first in eight years of using the shop. I felt pressured to retrieve the car late at night to avoid additional charges. The final invoice included added charges related to the battery removal, and I was presented with a multi-page estimate totaling over $4,500 for additional work on a car I was selling, including $45 for a single wiper blade. I left feeling uncomfortable, pressured, and disappointed after years as a loyal customer. I would not return and cannot recommend this shop based on my experience. We dropped our car off, Ken called and told me the price would be $430+tax for brake rotors, and I agreed because that was a reasonable price. Then we went to pay and they billed us $570. I told them they should honor the price they quoted me on the phone at but Ken and the boss Kevin just argued and refused to give us our car and said they would put a mechanics lien on our car. Eventually the owner listened to the recorded call and reduced the price by $30 which was nice. I will not be going there again though. read more

Do not buy the groupon. The fine print only states that you have to pay fees and taxes. However, when you go in for service he wants you to sign paperwork that states "any repairs needed prior to alignment must be performed at universal auto to qualify for alignment with package purchase." I refused to sign the paperwork and asked him to point out where it says that in the fine print of the groupon purchase. He failed to do so and he got PISSED. A police report was made and groupon has been contacted. read more

I went in for an oil change yesterday. I found them on Groupon. I called and made an appointment a few days before and when I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman. He took my info and told me it would be about an hour. They were very busy so I see why they have you make an appointment for anything here. The waiting room is really clean and kid friendly. It's in a small strip mall type place. I opted to just stay there since I'm not from the area and wasn't familiar with it. My car took a bit longer than the hour I was told but it was ok. I also spoke with the owner Kevin? I think that was his name. Anyway he explained to me about different synthetic oils for my car. I opted to get the winter type since I rarely drive my car and don't want to have to switch it out too soon. He was really nice as well. I would definitely recommend getting the oil change done here and will be back. read more

I had the opportunity to do bussiness with Universal Tire. Kevin the owner I was very impressed with. I had an oil change done ( brought truck in just for that) and asked if he could check my U joints. Well the oil change was done in a timely manner and he dropped the drive shaft to check the U joints. He did'nt charge me to check the U joints! Most places I think would have. While I was there, a young lady with a muscle car was apparently haveing some brake problems. Kevin dropped what he was doing to go out and crawl under her car to check it out. While I did not hear the conversation I can say he did spend at least 30 minutes discussing the matter. I always read reviews when I purchase something, have service done or travel. Almost always there are those reviews where the people complain that their ice cream is too cold. There are also those who have no idea what they are talking about, but when proven wrong still will not revise their reviews. Social media can be very destructive to people and businesses. I would caution anyone to always read between the lines, because there are always negitive reviews and often times you can read the reviewers other reviews...that is usually very revealing. read more

I was extremely unhappy with their tire service. I went in for a tire repair, when they put the spare tire on they never bothered to check the air pressure. I left thinking everything was fine, got a low tire pressure warning, WHEN I CHECKED THE TIRE WITH A REGULAR TIRE GAUGE, it only had a third of the air pressure it should have had (20 PSI INSTEAD OF 60 PSI). If that little detail was overlooked I don't feel confident that any major work would be done correctly. Keven has his excuses WRONG: 1) I do NOT have a 'four wheel drive' car. 2) The 'low tire pressure light' came on which lead me to check the tire pressure on my own. I don't know what your rambling excuse about the 'low tire presser warning' has anything to do with the fact that your mechanic NEVER checked the tire pressure in the spare tire. 3) You wanted to sell me TWO new tires and I said it wasn't in the budget at that time, you said 'ethically' you could NOT let me leave with my damaged tire on the car, so I said put the spare on it. I brought my 2015 Jeep Renegade to Kevin after taking it to the dealer and 1 other shop and Kevin not only fixed my car but did only what was necessary and saved me almost $1,000. It is so refreshing to find a business that is honest and believes strongly in customer service. I highly recommend this business and will definitely take my car here in the future. I was the store manager here and I was let go today for a few reasons that I will explain. First I would like to let all who read this that the owner is an exceptional mechanic. He knows his way around a vehicle and is very good at assisting his techs in diagnosing and repairing a vehicle usually the first time. He is awesome with customers and he ensures that every customer has a great experience with every visit. Where he lacks is in his leadership abilities with his management, his lack of support, and lack of constructive criticism when appropriate. It is expected that all staff dedicates their lives to his business. He wants to be able to discuss work related issues off the clock and requires of you to work on your own time which is not legal. While he has a winning personality with his customers he is condescending with his management staff and vendors. If it weren't for his ego he would be able to listen to other employees opinions and instead of getting offended because they don't have the same views as he does but instead agree to disagree and build from there je would have a happier amd more dedicated staff. I was suspended 30 minutes into my shift on monday without any explaination as to why until i was sent a text message from the owner around 330 that afternoon which stated that i was also going to be suspended the next day and was not given an explaination as to why until i texted him back and asked why. It was then that he responded that one of the reasons why is because i did not respond to his text message as quickly as he wanted me to on my off day as well as the next morning before my scheduled shift and because he would not tolerate my comment about it being innapropriate to do work related tasks outside of work hours. There is no work life balance for the store manager but only for him because I was expected to be the first person there and the last to leave but it is perfectly acceptable for him to show up at his leisure and leave when he's ready. He does not hold himself accountable for any mistakes that he has made but will throw you under the bus in front of customers to save face. The owner, his staff and customers smoke cigarettes in the shop (which is also illegal) despite my many pleas for them to stop because it made it difficult for me to breathe and it led to me having chest pains. I could continue but I think at this point you get the point. If you need a place to go to get your vehicle fixed for probably the best price in the Mentor, concord, Painesville area then this is the place to go but if you want a rewarding career in the auto industry with healthcare, benefits, a 401k, constant coaching, support, transparency, equal treatment for all staff regardless of your race, or having a differing opinion from the owner, reasonable work hours, a good work life balance, being subjected to second hand smoking, or being asked to falsify documentation then you may want to look elsewhere. read more
