I would give this store a 5 star rating regardless of the following story. I was visiting DC from out of town. We came to Nordstrom Rack to find reasonably priced clothing for a wedding, which they delivered on. While I was looking through the fabulous shoe selection, I must have dropped my wallet. Contents of the wallet were the standard: id, credit cards, cash ($45), but also included prescription sunglasses. The wallet itself was my mother's. After our Metro ride back to Eastern Market, I realized I didn't have my wallet. Once my initial panic subsided, I began to retrace my steps, riding the Metro back to Pentagon City. I looked, and looked, but no luck. I went back to my son's place feeling defeated. Fast forward a few months, the day before my birthday, I got a package from Nordstrom Rack at Pentagon City. I figured it was a gift from my son, remembering something I liked back in March. Well...imagine my utter surprise and astonishment to find the package contained my long lost WALLET!!!! Not only the wallet, but ALL the contents as well (YES, even the money)!! I was overjoyed!! My faith in humanity restored. WHAT a birthday present!! Having said all this (and good for you for sticking with this comment, lol!), I want to publicly acknowledge and THANK from the bottom of my heart, Jayla and the staff of this fine store!! THANK YOU SO MUCH :)

The young woman at the front entrance was very kind and asked another associate to help me. Unfortunately, the second associate wasn't nearly as friendly or welcoming. I was interested in the Diptyque candles because I wanted to purchase one for my sister, but after smelling them, I didn't think they were as impressive as the Diptyque perfumes I already own. I was actually glad I didn't do a blind buy. The associate then directed me to the Byredo fragrance counter. I wanted a Byredo candle, but I wasn't looking to spend $95 on one. While browsing online, I noticed there was a smaller size available, but the associate never mentioned that option. The candle selection in the store was also very limited and seemed to be low in stock. When I told him I'd just order online, his attitude became noticeably dismissive once he realized I wasn't purchasing the $95 candle. He did offer to place an online order for store pickup, but by that point I no longer felt comfortable purchasing through him. Between his attitude and my earlier interaction with the second associate, I simply didn't feel valued as a customer. I then went up to the third floor, where the experience unfortunately didn't improve. Although several sales associates walked past me, no one greeted me or offered assistance. I finally stopped one associate and asked if the candles on display were the only ones available. She replied that she was on her break and could find someone else to help. I asked if she could simply answer my question, and she responded, "I don't know." At that point, I was extremely frustrated. Thankfully, my experience completely turned around when I reached the customer service register. The two gentlemen working there were incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. I'll admit I probably came across as frustrated, but that was only because of the multiple negative interactions I'd already experienced. They noticed I was on a scooter wearing a walking boot and treated me with genuine care and respect. One of the associates was Micah S., and he and his coworker provided the level of customer service I had hoped to receive throughout the store. They listened, understood my concerns, and made me feel appreciated as a customer. They truly deserve recognition--and if anyone has earned a bonus or a raise, it's those two gentlemen.

Sideny took the time to listen when I shared how my luggage was temporarily misplaced. She offered empathy and helped me feel grounded in an unfamiliar city. Kelvin was incredible when it came to styling. He helped me build outfits with the pieces I had in the luggage I was reunited with. Todd was equally helpful, helping me find pieces to match an item I had just purchases in the store. Whenever I travel for professional reasons, I look for a sense of familiarity in the places I visit. This store, especially these three team members, gave me that and more. The website says price adjustments can be made within 14 days, and my receipt simply says that price adjustments cannot be made on final sale items (which my item was not). I called the store to do a price adjustment over the phone, and they told me that my purchase had to have been within seven days. It does not say that anywhere online or on my receipt. I explained that since I was within my 30 day return window, I could order the item online at the reduced rate and return the one I purchased in store, or come in and return and repurchase the item, but that that would be a waste of both of our time (and public transit/gas money), but they said that was their policy. I asked to speak with a manager, but the woman claimed to be the manager. I once again reiterated that the seven days was not on my receipt or consistent with what was listed online or the 30 day return policy, but they still refused to help. Completely illogical, nonsensical, and opaque. I will never be purchasing anything in the store ever again.

Since I now work in Arlington, I visit both this Marshalls and the nearby TJ Maxx pretty often, and I've consistently had better luck here. I've come across some really great finds at this Marshalls, from wardrobe staples to little unexpected gems. On the flip side, I rarely find much worth grabbing at the TJ Maxx in this area, which always surprises me given how much I typically love that store. Selection & Finds: This location always seems to have a solid selection, and the inventory feels more thoughtfully stocked compared to the TJ Maxx nearby. I've walked out with some really good finds here on multiple occasions, which keeps me coming back. I do wish they carried more workout gear, especially things like weight lifting gloves, since that's one category where the selection feels a bit limited. Store Experience: One thing that really stands out is how neat and organized this Marshalls is. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I walk in and don't feel like I have to dig through piles just to browse. The layout makes shopping feel easier and less chaotic than what I've experienced at the TJ Maxx close by. Service: The store associates here are attentive and kind, which makes a difference. Whether it's helping at checkout or answering a quick question, the interactions have always been pleasant. Value: The prices here are generally good, and I can usually find solid deals on everyday items and wardrobe staples. That said, every now and then I do come across items that feel a bit overpriced for Marshalls, especially when they're not significantly discounted from what you'd pay elsewhere. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's something I've started to notice during recent visits. Overall, if you're choosing between the Marshalls and TJ Maxx in this area, this Marshalls is the better bet in my opinion. I didn't expect to say that, but here we are.
