I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Banana Republic in Arlington/Crystal City, and I left genuinely impressed by the exceptional customer service, especially from Kelvin, Todd, and Sidney. I shop at BR often, and the level of care and professionalism at this location stood out.I hope BR recognizes what an incredible team they have. Kelvin, Todd, and Nimat represent the brand at its best, and I wouldn't be surprised -- and would be thrilled -- to see any of them move up within the company. Sideny took the time to listen when I shared how my luggage was temporarily misplaced. She offered empathy and helped me feel grounded in an unfamiliar city. Kelvin was incredible when it came to styling. He helped me build outfits with the pieces I had in the luggage I was reunited with. Todd was equally helpful, helping me find pieces to match an item I had just purchases in the store. Whenever I travel for professional reasons, I look for a sense of familiarity in the places I visit. This store, especially these three team members, gave me that and more. I purchased an item in store there eleven days ago. It has since dropped in price by half--over $50. The website says price adjustments can be made within 14 days, and my receipt simply says that price adjustments cannot be made on final sale items (which my item was not). I called the store to do a price adjustment over the phone, and they told me that my purchase had to have been within seven days. It does not say that anywhere online or on my receipt. I explained that since I was within my 30 day return window, I could order the item online at the reduced rate and return the one I purchased in store, or come in and return and repurchase the item, but that that would be a waste of both of our time (and public transit/gas money), but they said that was their policy. I asked to speak with a manager, but the woman claimed to be the manager. I once again reiterated that the seven days was not on my receipt or consistent with what was listed online or the 30 day return policy, but they still refused to help. Completely illogical, nonsensical, and opaque. I will never be purchasing anything in the store ever again. read more

Just visited this store yesterday on 1/25/25. Not only did no one ask to help me with anything but they had their only black worker at the time (middle age man, short hair, goatee and mustache) follow me around the store to make sure I didn't steal basically. Terrible shopping experiencing with incredibly rude staff. I do not recommend this location at all. read more

This is by far the worst banana republic I've been to in terms of customer service. So I'm not sure what the employee policy is anymore for pushing the Banana card, but recently it's gotten to the point where each individual employee constantly asks you if you want to apply. Don't get me wrong - I know that the parent company that owns Banana Republic probably asks employees for a quota of people to sign up for these cards, but I think that there should be at least some employee communication for how they approach customers. In addition to this, we went into this store to exchange something, and the employee told us that it would end up costing more. I pushed back, asking why when we're exchanging the exact same item, and instead of directly replying to me she angrily sighed, turned away and asked her manager, who ended up resolving the cost. Then as we were shopping for chinos, she came up and passively agressively asked my boyfriend if things were ok...when things were absolutely fine. When I said we were looking around, she refused to look at me and only talked to my boyfriend...which made me super confused, and also kind of a hostile environment to shop around. Bought two pairs of pants here last week for my vacation, and spent around $250. Now, on vacation and wore the dark brown cords for the first time only to find there is a HOLE where the security sensor was taken off! That's so not cool! I'm totally upset, that's a lot of money! read more

Most horrendous experience there. Just wanted to buy something on sale and sales floor aggressively pushing me to sign up for credit. So did so and made an error entering salary on her phone. Letter comes back saying I don't qualify because of salary. Hoping my credit report doesn't reflect this awful situation. Seriously this type of pushy sales tactic turned me completely off to ever walking into that nightmare again! read more

Only one black suit in this entire store. I was told that more existed at Tyson's, but upon search, salesperson found none. Then I was told to look online, which I did once home, and again turned up: nothing. It was one thing to discover that this large retailer lacked any sort of revenue-generating processes to turn in-store potential sales into actual sales by leveraging e-commerce, and thereby using and enabling the full SCM / value chain. It was quite another to learn that - on top of all that - their inventory management system apparently doesn't keep up with demand. The male fitting room attendant walked in on me changing, wouldn't close the door, then kept trying to open it once I did. Felt very violated, and won't be coming back. The best part was when he tried to blame it on me. I understand the initial accident, but after that first shock, he behaved incredibly inappropriately. read more

I needed new jeans. I met my wife at Pentagon City for lunch. I had limited time. We walked into BR and we're immediately met by Dominique. She's the bomb. She's funny and friendly, I told her what I wanted. She grabbed a pair, done. She showed me another style, grabbed a pair in my size and insisted I try them on. Again, she was funny and engaging, not pushy. I tried them on, bought them too. They have a great sale so that helped, but I was out of there in 10 minutes or less. Great job by Dominique! read more

5 stars is all I can give how about more? This place is my favorite clothing store in the DMV area. The employees are really nice and helpful at this location. They're eager to greet you and help you out, but at the same time they're not pushy. Recently, when they were having a sale I mentioned to an employee I really liked some shorts here but would wait for their next sale he came back with a coupon for 40% two regular priced items. Excellent Customer Service, ya think? I love everything about Banana Republic, they have the coolest clothes at the best prices. Additionally, their clothes look great on me - I could model for this place. I recently got a $380 gift card for $320 on ebay and wow that has that been a savior to my Summer wardrobe. I like to shop here when they have sales because you can get some great bargains. Cool Sweaters, Shirts, Jeans, and Shorts are just a few of the things I like to pick up here. Also, I might mention it is very beneficial to sign up for their banana card because they regularly send you coupons in the mail. I rarely go in to the Pentagon City location because of the tour groups the mall attracts, but I was in the area and decided to go in. This is not a big store but they do have a good selection of new and sale items. The store was not busy and they appeared to have numerous staff working. I felt the customer service was lacking in this location, I was going to try on numerous items and did not receive an offer to have a fitting room started, once I reached the fitting room no one was available to let me in. Once in the fitting room nobody was available to assist in further sizes, items etc. The associate at the check out was friendly, but at that point I wanted to purchase my item and leave. Having worked at a higher end clothing store, assisting customers is usually a high priority as you want them to build on the one item they have in order to increase sales. I tend to find I want to return to a location or spend more time in the store when good customer service is provided. This was not an experience that made me want to return to this shop, rather make it a place to quickly browse and leave. read more

I don't frequent this store but I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service provided by one of the store leaders Keith. I was welcomed and greeted when I first entered the store. I came to return some merchandises but unsurprisingly found something I liked. I later proceed to Keith to ask him to check some sizes for me, he did it with patience and friendliness. When we learned the merchandise were sold out online as well as in his store, Keith called a few other stores for me to check availability. This process took at least twenty minutes and in my own experiences, to ask a sales person to call a different store to make purchase is a nightmare for him/her because it is very time consuming. But Keith helped me with significantly amount of enthusiasm and professionalism. I recommend this store to fellow consumers for its overall tidiness, unparalleled customer service and energy. read more

Let me clarify. 5 stars for clothing and 0 stars for customer service. The 3 cashiers were arguing over which one was going to ring my order. I was super excited that I had shopped long enough for the line to disappear. I went over and stood at the front of the line. Two cashiers avoided eye contact and tried to act busy. The other cashier who was waiting on someone, encouraged her co workers to ring my items. It wasn't until another woman came over and I suggested that maybe she should try to get waited on that someone finally acknowledged me. I'm still trying to decide if Im keeping the items or returning due to the poor experience. We'll see. read more

For being such a large chain, this Banana Republic seems to be going out of its way to make for a pleasant shopping experience! Normally when I go to a chain clothing store, I expect to wander aimlessly for twenty minutes, only to finally be greeted by an anorexic tween with a headset who says "Hi, can I help you find something? Well don't ask me, okay, because I'm at the register with Tiffany gossiping about some landwhale trying on a chino skirt. Sorry ma'am, but we don't sell mumus lol!" Here, I was pleasantly left to my own devices for a few minutes, but one of the clerks came up to me, asked me how I was doing, and told me to let her know if she could help me with anything. Okay, so that dictate may have come on high from corporate, but there was a certain genuineness to her interaction with me. More importantly, she made direct eye contact too. It's touches like that which make me feel happy to patronize certain businesses over their competitors. Also, they've redone the store since last I went (about a year ago) and it looks much, much cleaner and more open. At one point this location was starting to look cramped like a department store, and their clothes always looked picked-through. It's gotten a much-welcomed overhaul. Okay, so what brough me here, you ask? If you haven't tried the new Banana Republic fragrances, I strongly suggest you do. For men, I recommend the Black Walnut, which smells like whiskey and warm tobacco. Either that, or Cordovan, which smells, well... like I'm transported to a place I may or may not have been to before, being reunited with people I think I had a dream about once. Okay, that makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever, but it's a testament to the human body's sense of smell that can make certain fragrances have such a primal, feel-good impact on you. Plus, they've come up with body washes and aftershaves to compliment each one of their fragrances. They also have a decent selection of women's frags. While I haven't smelled them, they have plenty of testers available for you to try, and if they smell half as good as the men's selection, then I can say you've still made a wise investment. The verdict: normally I'm an Internet shopper. Online, you always know if your size is in stock or not. Having said that, I think the next time I'm in the market for new chinos, or hell, just to browse for something nice, I'll come to this BR location. read more

I took serious exception to the conduct of one of the staff members at this store. My wife attempted to buy some clothing on Friday, 12 September 2014. After I inserted my credit card in the card reader to pay for the purchase, the staff member asked if my wife would like an additional 20% discount "by opening an account." She agreed, and he proceeded to take her personal information. He then announced that the information would be "checked". I asked the staff member if he was running a credit check. He claimed to have "no idea" what was being done with the information. I asked him why he thought it was appropriate to use my credit card information in conjunction with an application made in my wife's name and with her personal information to run a credit check without my express consent. He claimed it was my choice to supply the credit card. I replied that if he had explained up front that he was running a credit check to apply for a credit card, I would have declined his offer. The young man again claimed to have no idea what was being done with my wife's personal information and my credit card information, and completed what was obviously a credit check. I consider this behavior to be dishonest and unprofessional at least, and possibly fraudulent. I would recommend avoiding any kind of store that engages in this practice and whose management trains and retains these kind of employees. In addition, the young man was extremely rude and unapologetic. If this store is going to use personal customer information to offer credit cards or other lines of credit, it should state so up front and without attempting to deceive customers with claims of "not knowing how the information is processed."
