My husband, his buddy, Mark, and I came tonight for a quick bite and drinks before they went to see a concert at Merriweather. When we arrived, we decided to sit on the patio. I was hesitant at first as I get bitten easily by mosquitoes. Apparently when there is a concert at Merriweather, they have special menu. My husband and Mark ordered a few beers. For dinner, my husband and I split Chips and Queso and the Fish and Chips. The Chips and Queso were good, but nothing special. The fish was flaky and the batter was crispy. I really liked it. The fries were on the softer side. I generally like mine crispier and cooked more. Mark got the Bangers and Mash which was three sausages and mashed potatoes. I didn't ask but it looked appetizing. He did say there was an abundant amount of mashed potatoes. They played live music this evening. The gentleman sang and played a guitar and the woman accompanying him at one point played the harmonica. They were very skilled and I enjoyed their performances; however, it was hard to hear on top of them at times. Our server was great and we got what we needed when we needed something. Stopped in for dinner and drinks with Bae and another couple we're friends with. We were seated within about 5 to 10 minutes of arriving. Which is always nice! Our waiter came by and took our drink orders and everything seemed to be moving along great! He came back a short time after bringing us our drinks and took our food orders. I ordered the London Broil medium well and everyone else ordered the One Eyed Jack. Bae asked to have her's medium, no tomatoes, and to have the eggs fried hard. She will not eat runny eggs, period, Lol! When the food came out it wasn't brought out by our waiter. This is where the fun starts! Two of the three burgers were supposed to be medium and one was supposed to be medium rare. All three were well done. All of the eggs were runny and Bae's burger also had tomatoes even though the server stated "None of them have tomatoes on them". My London broil was also well done, but I just soldiered through it. The mashed potatoes weren't the best either to be honest. I was surprised because I usually enjoy my food here. We made our waiter and another server aware of the mix ups with the bugers. But rather than send everything back I just dealt with my steak not being cooked how I like it. But I didn't enjoy meal... The drinks were good though and our waiter was very apologetic and cool about trying to accommodate us due to the mix ups. Overall we had a good time despite the food. I've been here before several times and genuinely like this restaurant. I'm only giving it 3 stars because all 4 orders were not right. Otherwise I would rate Union Jack's 4 out of 5. My mom and I recently popped in for a late lunch! The food was absolutely delicious! My mom ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the Cajun chicken club sandwich. The bartender who served as our waiter was extremely attentive and so friendly, given he had the bar and multiple tables in the restaurant. I enjoy being a regular :) Trivia was held outside on the patio, with lots of distanced out options between bar seating, high tops, tables. The menu has so many delicious options-after being away for so long we had to go with our classic favorites Fish and Chips platter (so well seasoned-not too much breading-well crisped fries-and the delicious side coleslaw-with a unique citrus taste) & the Reuben- made with large chunks of corned beef, mounds of sauerkraut, a wonderfully drippy thousand island sauce, and shoestring fries. Definitely worth eating here-their dishes are well portioned, well priced, well-seasoned, and make me crave them once I finish. Came here for karaoke as you see in the video. The karaoke part was great. But the service from the bartender was horrible!! We came on a busy day and so the bar Ws pretty busy. I get the bartenders attention and he just ignores me, yet he did notice me get his attention. It was disrespectful. He continued to help other customers without coming back to me to ask me what I want to drink. I had to forcefully get his attention, but now the second time and it got escalated. me and my husband and friend went to have a nice dinner and we were meet with horrible service by Calvin. we mistakenly read the total of our bill wrong and left a ten % tip (meaning to leave a 20% tip) after he brought in our check and totaled the cash and found our 10% tip he came outside ran to our table slammed down our checkbook and said if you're gonna leave a less than 10% tip, I don't fucking want it and stormed off yelling in front of the whole patio dining area. we talked to the manager afterwards and she was very nice and apologetic, but we were met with terrible service by this waiter. read more

My coworkers and I usually frequent Union Jack's whenever we visit our company's Columbia office around the corner from here. I like their happy hour deals and I think the chicken "tenderloins" (as listed on their menu) is the best deal for HH. It's $6 and it comes with about 6 tenders along with a generous portion of fries! Lots of drink options as well. The server that we had during our most recent visit was really fun and attentive! Cynthia and Niki provided me with excellent communication for the events and they were very flexible when the snowstorm altered some of the planning. Greg was very accommodating during the ceremony setup, and Erica was an outstanding waitress during both events. We had roughly 60 people and all had great things to say. I didn't like them much the last few times but they've made some great improvements. Maybe, It looks a little different inside. Anyway, SO got the London Broil - very tasteful with flavor. I don't remember their food having much flavor before. DD got mini cheeseburgers on kids' menu with fries. Fries were so good that we ordered more but they weren't as good as that first batch. Her mini cheeseburgers looked like they would be delicious but they were very dry. I got a southwest salad and special requested blackened shrimp. It was great even though they left in the avocado that I didn't want and could have had more onions for me. A round of mimosas put us all in a good mood. But the service deteriorated from there. Appetizers were slow and the rest of the food even slower. We could not find our waiter and the other wait staff were not helpful. We ordered coffee and tea but canceled after waiting for an hour. Getting the check and boxes were a struggle. We couldn't find our waiter and the hostesses at the front did not help. They refused to take our money nor offered to find someone who could. I came here last night with a friend around 8PM and sat at the bar. There were 4 bartenders (1 woman and 3 men) behind the bar and not one of them acknowledged us. The men were busy joking around with one another. We sat there for several minutes and no one spoke to us, gave us a menu, or offered to serve us - it honestly seemed like they were trying to avoid doing so. My friend and I were the only black women there. We weren't loud or rude - so I wonder if we were ignored for our appearances. A similar experience happened to us in the same night right down the street at Walrus. I've never been just blatantly ignored by the bartender(s) when I've sat at a bar before, so I'm not sure what's going on with the bars in this town - perhaps young black women are not part of their ideal demographic. BF and I came to Union Jack's before seeing a movie nearby. It was not very crowded when we came and we were seated at a table by the bar immediately. They had a few happy hour specials going on-- $5 select apps and $3 domestic drafts. We decided to start with some fried pickles. They were beer battered which was interesting and were very crunchy! They were honestly probably the best part of the meal. I decided to get nachos as my meal. When they came out the guac/sour cream was in a cornucopia in the middle... It was visually appealing but not very practical. I prefer my nacho toppings to be evenly distributed! I paid extra for chicken and there was not much on them. The good thing about the nachos is they are huge and can definitely be shared by a table. BF got the seafood pasta and while it was good he didn't think it was worth the $17 price. Union Jack's is not a business I would normally frequent, save for my friends when they want to go. Visited for the first time when the boys wanted to swing by for happy hour and it was just ok. They've got plenty of seating set up outdoors for those who wish to enjoy the weather: there's the patio space, covered tent, and then tables with umbrellas sprawled out. We ended up ordering items off the regular menu and our waitress seemed like she could care less. The crab dip was good (butter baguette ftw), but the nachos seemed like something you could throw together better at home (cheese wasn't melty at all). Anyway, the shots were definitely strong pours, so if you're looking for a place to drink, this is it! Don't think I'll visit again, but that's more personal preference than anything. The seating was very crowded and cramped. I had waiters, waitresses, and others who were walking by bumping into my chair. The service was good and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We have been coming here for years and I have never had a single issue! It's nice to sit in or outside, though we usually sit inside. The fish and chips is almost impossible to pass up - two large portions of fish, fresh fries. The slaw is okay, but I could take it or leave it. Ate one of the best fish n' chips and fish tacos I've had here! They have plenty outdoor (shaded) seating for a beautiful summer day in July. Their happy hour wine is pretty decent (and only $4!), but I think they could offer more appetizer specials. Me and 2 friends went here to eat and granted I understand it was the 4th so we expected some delay but nothing of what we went through we were in the restaurant over 2 hours took 45 minutes to get out appetizers out server was not very attentive or observant that we had not got anything we ordered in an appropriate granted there we're actually not a lot of people where we were sitting and ended up but one of the loneliest tables when we left got our apps then waited another 30 minutes for out order to be taken and when we were still waiting about an hour for our food we asked for a status and out server didn't even know what we ordered had no idea and when we said "you took our order" his reply was "I don't know what you had" He never came back with a status update but continued to go back and forth to clear tables and then disappeared after that the last straw was when a table that had arrived a well amount of time after us got there appetizers and food before us this place gave us a terrible experience and terrible show of service! read more

Our bartender Simone was very friendly, assertive and accommodating to meeting our needs. She made the best bloody marry I have had in a long time. Hands down the best kept secret in Columbia Maryland. I highly recommend this place when you are hooky you with friends or would like to watch Sports event on the big screens. My server Steve was the absolute best! He provided exceptional customer and he made the best recommendation. I order the crab dip and the chicken nachos. The crab dip was rich and creamy. The chicken nachos was amazing but I would've prefer shredded chicken instead of the cube chicken pieces I got. If you are looking to drink on a budget, the green tea shots are highly recommended. I hosted a party of 9 and Gary the manager along with staff couldn't have been nicer. We requested a private room and were put in one, knowing that there may be other dinner guests joining us. We were fortunate to have the room to ourselves. The food and wine were delicious. If you are looking for a private room setting, I would highly recommend them. A walking distance to a training facility so it was convenient for a quick lunch. The bar has plenty of beers and spirits but it was lunch with colleagues during work so had to wait. I ordered the original habanero mango chicken wings with raspberry ice tea. Bartender was friendly. Our plates were served relatively quickly. The wings were crisped on the outside and good habanero mango sauce. Bot really spicy however it was expect as to accommodate the general palate. The space inside is massive for a bar/restaurant with outdoor seating. Pool tables and a bar it all you need for a good time. I've been here a few times now. I love the decor indoors, and the outdoor patio is a great spot to hang out on a nice night. We also came to watch sports (specifically the Euro cup) and will likely be back several times during Premier League soccer season to do the same. It was a fun atmosphere and they have a ton of big TVs which makes it easy to watch sports. The food here is average - I liked the wings and the nachos, and the pretzel app is really good. My husband said the fish and chips were also tasty. The ruben sandwich was fine, nothing bad but nothing special. I like the bloody mary but would skip the crushes - they seemed very light on the alcohol and too sweet. Decent beer list. We've had good service each time, which sounds contrary to many reviews. Came for a friend's birthday party. Because it was a big group, they reserved the lounge area by the bar for us. There was a nintendo system and a bunch of games for us to play while we waited for people to show up and for our food/drinks to arrive. Overall, service was good. Our waitress seemed a little annoyed and had a bit of an attitude, but we had a big group and not everyone was cooperative so I understand. She messed up my tab and corrected it immediately. It took a while to flag her down so we could order food since not everyone ordered something at the same time. I got the fish and chips. I heard they were amazing here so I wanted to try for myself. They were good, but not amazing (in my opinion). Maybe they were rush cooked, but mine were a little too greasy for me and the fries were still a little tough in the center since they were thick cut. The remoulade sauce was really good though! The lemon helped lessen the oily feeling/taste too. My friend got the black bean burger and I had a bite of it. Tasted pretty good (and they came with shoe string fries--kind of like Mcdonald's size) so maybe i'll get that next time.
