I been to Union Jacks several times, it has become my dads favorite place for fish n' chips after a Drs visit for lunch, I know TMI. Today we went again for lunch. We sat ourselves down, a set of leaving guest guided us through the side door and we sat down at an open table. After a long wait, we asked a young waitress for a menu, her reply was 'your waitress hasn't been to your table?' , our reply 'No'. She returned with menus and 'I will be your waitress now'. My dad had the Fish and Chips w/ Onion rings, no Chips, I had the Irish Stew. Our waitress Mallory was polite and attentive, so kind. She recommended the stew, saying it is delicious, she was right. The flavor of Stout is very aperient, better the the stew at Dubliner in DC. I asked her to tell the Chef, which she did. The fish, was as normal great not greasy or over cooked. The fish was tender, moist, crispy, tasty, and the rings perfect. I do not know the other waitress, or the reason why, people have bad days, 'nuff said. Representing 2024, U is for Union Jack's. Introduction to Union Jack's in 2010's: I have been to 3 Union Jack's locations over the past over decade. The first time I went was the Gaithersburg location, which closed during Covid, in February 2015 for my friend's birthday party. I went to the Bethesda location once for a birthday party too, which closed even before Covid. The 1st time I ever went to the Columbia location was in December 2018. It was after our company's holiday party after the after party at Union Jack's. We stayed out pretty late on that Thursday night (but most were working from home the next day as it was a Friday). Union Jack's is a cool fun atmosphere with both inside & outside. We were mostly inside, but we did go outside for a bit too in spite of the December cold. Coworker was encouraging me to smoke a cigar, which was the last of maybe 3 times I ever smoked one in my life. 2023-2024 experiences here: There's a Meetup group that meets on a Friday for happy hour that I occasionally went to. They do a good job accommodating the large group often around the pool tables. Staff is nice, and there are some decent specials on drinks & food. In March 2024, I took my new girlfriend at the time to the Meetup, and we ate here. We were both disappointed. We split 2 entrees, the fish & chips and a steak medallion dish. Fish & chips weren't bad, but it was kind of small & too much breading. The steak & mushrooms had way too much of this brown gravy, which was not appetizing. Steak was kind of rubbery. Mashed potatoes & asparagus were decent. We were annoyed that we were hungry again less than 4 hours later for our 2 entrees. It's annoying to spend $60 for the 2 of us to be hungry less than 4 hours later. In conclusion, staff is nice & some good happy hour specials, but the food situation was subpar. read more

We had a great time here meeting up with friends before the Dave Matthew's Band concert nearby. They had a tribute band playing that was great. Lots of seating inside and outside. Our server, Hayley, was AMAZING. They were packed, yet she regularly checked on us and brought food and drinks quickly. I didn't order food, but tasted my friend's crab bites which were yummy with the sauce they served with them. Others ordered salmon, chicken quesadillas, and shrimp which all looked good to me. I saw others with fish and chips which they seem to be know for and they look good. Best fish and chips! TV's and a big-screen TV We've come here for years, and we've always loved their generous flakey moist crispy fried-fish and chips. A quiet Sunday in Sep '24 was a comfortable friendly refuge after a long trip. We also had a tasty veggie burger, and several draft and craft beers. Came here for my partner's company party. The food was pretty mediocre and meager. When we went up to the buffet, it was curious that everyone had small amounts of food on their plate but once I got up there, the reason was evident: most of the buffet trays were nearly empty. The gluten-free pizza crust was a good texture, though I wish the Margherita pizza had some sauce on it rather than just cheese and tomato slices. I was really happy to find that they have a dedicated fryer for gluten-free items, so you can order a variety of things here if that's a concern for you. Our server was very kind and attentive, and it was nice to sit on the patio in the evening. The inside of the restaurant seemed a bit dark and didn't get a lot of sunlight, which heavily influenced my choice to sit outside. Just a short walk from Meriweather post, this British pub makes legit fish and chips. Decent tap selection which includes 2 English ciders. We visited before the Zack Brown concert, and the live band playing at the pub for right in. Their outside patio was packed 2 hours before the show, so service was a bit slow to handle such a crowd, but service was friendly and welcoming. I came for a visit with a few friends on their trivia night hosted by Charm City Trivia. The trivia was fun, but the food and service left a lot to be desired. Our visit happened to coincide with a concert, so the place was packed with people looking to grab a quick bite before their show. We were told that due to the concert, they had a shortened menu selection (photos shown of the concert/event menu). After deciding on what to order, we struggled to flag down a waiter. When we finally got ahold of a waiter, they kept forgetting to bring us cups of water. The food took a very long time to come out, but I hope this was just due to the large number of guests during our visit. Unfortunately, none of our dishes were particularly good. I had the fish and chips, which were incredibly bland and not very crispy at all. My friend got the Pub Philly, and it tasted so bad that she didn't even finish eating one of the sandwich halves... The only dish I would consider ordering again in the future is the Chicken Banger Rolls - at least they had some semblance of flavor. One member of the party really wanted the Reuben, which is not available on the event menu. However, staff told us that at around 7-7:30pm after the concert begins, they would switch back to the regular menu. So my friend decided to wait until that time to order the Reuben. At 7:30pm, trivia started. Again, we struggled to flag down a waiter. Finally, after 8pm, my friend walked to the bar to speak with someone to place an order. Her food came out incredibly late even though all the concert-goers were already gone. This is a fun place to go and relax with family or friends. There are pool tables, darts and sports on TV. However, the fun stops there. We visited with a sports team. Fodd took 90 minutes to come out (the restaurant other than our group was pretty empty), some food never came out. The waiter stated someone else must have taken it. A simple grilled cheese was sent back twice to cook bread and melt cheese. We eventually gave up. The manager was no where to be seen. Other staff stayed on their phone and no help was provided to the waiter for paying bills. Poor food, service and kitchen ability to manage orders. Skip this. read more

We came here after a festival in Columbia and it was a good time. We stumbled upon trivia which was really fun! I had the fish and chips and it was absolutely delicious. Met some friends here on a Saturday for lunch. We started off with an order of pretzels with cheese sauce and fried pickles. Both appetizers were delish! For entrees, I went with the chicken tenders and an order of fries. I really liked batter on the tenders, it gave them a nice crisp. The fries were just meh. My fiancé ordered off the brunch menu and got the Crème brûlée French toast. He said it was "surprisingly delicious." All entree portions were very large that most of us left with a box in hand. I went during happy hour, and if you are anywhere near this place go. The drink prices are alright but the happy hour food selection was great. I picked the 3 pork tacos for $7.50 and when they came out, wow! Great presentation with onion rings all over the top of them. The taste was a little "safe". I like tacos with a kick so they may need a little heat. I'm sure they had some hot sauce somewhere, but I didn't bother. Service was great too. We sat outside and it was a little chilly when the sun went away behind a cloud because it seemed a breeze was steadily running through that patio area. I had one of the best fish n chips ! Lightly battered but had a great crispness & well seasoned too! The chips (fries) were just the way I like it - crispy the remoulade sauce with it could've used just a pinch more horseradish but otherwise it was good. My daughter had the fish tacos which almost trumped my dish. The citrus slaw, avocado cream sauce on the blackened fish were delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about them . My husband opted for the seafood pasta. Although also delicious with plenty of sweet mussels & good sized shrimps ( 3) , there was no crab meat anywhere . If the dish had any, it had to be miniscule . Anyway, our server wasn't well versed on the specials as she had to go & confirm our inquiries regarding happy hour specials. Came for a Tuesday night Trivia event! They apparently just re-started their Trivia Tuesday events. Parking was across the street, more in the mall parking lot area. There is a garage not too far from this location also. Trivia was pretty cool. Ended up being about 5 teams that played. The whole game lasted about an hour and a half. Winners got a gift card to use on the next visit to UJ. I ordered the chicken tenders that I did not enjoy. They seemed throughly choked in fried oil. This pub is at a good location, and has nice indoor and outdoor space. Staff is friendly. Should be a good place for happy hour or hangout with friends. My recent visit was, however, less than spectacular. Sitting outside, there was some live music blasting in our ears which made conversations difficult. The food took more than 30 minutes to come out, and appetizers and the rest of the food all came at the same time. The waitress got one wrong drink. The drinks were too sweet and watered down. The food quality was mediocre at best. Chicken wings were dry. Guacamole seemed to be pre-made. Calamari was salty and a little soggy. Pizza was judged to be just OK. Came here for brunch after running across the street to the mall. Had the fried pickles, the sauce was good but overall a little too soggy for us. I can't say enough great things about this place. I needed a private room for 16 people, and they were so accommodating in every way. Our server Karen was a rockstar! She juggled getting drinks for all the standing guests, and later kept track of those seated people who ordered dinner, and gave every one of us our own check, with no mistakes. And she was fast, efficient, and unflappable the whole time! And the food was DELICIOUS and came out pretty quickly, considering how large our group was. I will be back, Union Jack's! read more
