18th & 21st is definitely one of those spots you go to when you want a more elevated night out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is dim, modern, and intimate perfect for a date night or special occasion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with a bottle of La Crema Pinot Noir (listed at $68.21), which was smooth and paired really well with everything we ordered. That said, this is where things got a little concerning. The waiter initially charged us $110 for the bottle, and if I hadn't caught it, we would have overpaid by a lot. He did fix it, but honestly that's a pretty big red flag and not something you expect at this price point. The charred octopus ($23.18) was a standout. Tender with a smoky char and pickled onions and a creamy sauce that balanced everything out. For the entree, we got the half rack of lamb ($49.18) and the duck breast ($46.18). Both were cooked as we liked. The lamb was flavorful with crispy potatoes, and the duck had a great sear and richness without being too heavy. Dessert was the mango mousse coconut cake ($12.18), which was light and not overly sweet. However, we were told ahead of time it would be complimentary and that they would write "Happy Anniversary" on it neither of those things happened, and we were charged for it. That was disappointing and felt a bit sloppy. Service overall was on the slower side. The one bright spot was the bartender, Abel, who was great and actually made the experience better by offering us a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate. Have yourself an evening of sublime music, delicious foods, amazing crafted drinks, great bartenders, and good company at 18th & 21st.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We made a last-minute decision to try for some of the nightly jazz (except Monday) at 18th & 21st on a Friday evening (Oct 2025), hip-ly named for the prohibition amendment and repeal :-)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's a free parking garage right across from the entrance of the building they share with a sister restaurant, Cured. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We arrived in the bright seasonally-decorated welcoming lobby about 7:50pm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ought to have made reservations, but in under 10min, the reception staff took us to the more intimate room towards the back where we were seated at at the bar, which is really what we wanted. When we arrived, the 6pm jazz band had just gone on break, so we felt free to chat with friendly regulars and with the bar staff. They have a changing list of ten craft beers from $6 to $21, plus one $6 non-alcoholic brew. Five of the $14-$35 per-glass vintage wines from their list of 17 are preserved with the "corovin" system that keeps air out, so they are never "corked". We focussed on their list of 11 crafted $13-$22 cocktails plus 5 non-alcoholic ones, all made with quality ingredients, each naming the staff member(s) (and guests) who formulated the recipe! We found Alex's $16 Fernetinez sublimely sweet: of bitter fernet amaro, Frederick-based locally-sourced award-winning McClintock One Last Time gin (exclusive for 18th&21st), smooth Luxardo liqueur, and a sweet vermouth. We loved the aroma and flavor of the classic Smoked Old Fashioned of bourbon from Kentucky's 10th-oldest distillery, Green River, moved to a mild well-rounded sweetness by brown sugar simple syrup, smoked in front of me by Mike (if i remember), with added richness from smoky bitters. They have a creative menu of $30 to $65 entrees, plus salads, small plates, apps, and sides, and they have a changing menu of small plates. We really hadn't planned on eating, but we couldn't resist. The $17 duck bao buns had thin tender filets with a sweet lightly-salty apricot-soy glaze and a tangy crunchy pickled cucumber slaw on a soft folded yeasted slightly-sweet white-flour bun. The $12 pair of fried fresh-tasting oysters were sweet and juicy with a light-flavored crunchy crust. They were so yummy, and easy to enjoy with our cocktails. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Rodney Kelly's jazz band was excellent, playing with spirit, joking with each other and the audience, even staging a song or two with a skilled member of the restaurant staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Afterwards we had brief moments with some of the band members, like an intimate jazz club. Later in the evening, i also had a Turkish Sunset, a Manhattan-variation created in a collaboration among the staff and a guest (Well-done Ozzie!). I love Elijah Craig, and wanted to try their dry toasted rye, with housemade allspice dram syrup, Small Hands grenadine, and bitters. By now, i felt very much at home with the staff, and when i learned that one of them had helped formulate this beverage, i confided that its amazing complexity was, for me, just a touch too dry. Alex (if i remember) considered the ingredients and the target flavors, and added just a touch of a sweet lemony liqueur, perfectly complimenting the recipe's flavors! I came here to celebrate an anniversary dinner, and I have to say, it really feels like the place to be on the weekend. It's tucked away between buildings. You'd never know it was there, which seems to be a Columbia thing, honestly. We checked in and waited about 10 minutes before being called back, then another 10 minutes at our table before a waitress came by. A slow start for sure, but once she arrived, everything picked up. We got 2 drinks, 1 app, 2 entrees and it was about $200 including tip. Note that they do automatically include 20% on all bills. My only complaint is there was one couple who was more than a bit disruptive and staff did nothing to subdue them. I was a little skeptical about the whole "Speakeasy" vibe but after being escorted to a location, you would never actually find walking around on your own, it definitely fits the description. I love the 60s Supper Club feel, it's like the moment you walk through the door, you are thrown into a time of sky views , Jazz and fine dining. So you ever visit a place and wonder why it took you so long because the experience was so good? That was my experience at 18th & 21st. I went with a couple of my friends for our last book club session of the year and it was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the wings, brussel sprouts, crab pizza, mussels & egg rolls appetizers. Everything was so good (minus the pizza: we found the bread to be too thick) that we decided to order another round and ditch the main course. Our server was kind and attentive, checking on us every couple of minutes. We wanted to be able to chat about the book, so the ambiance was appropriate despite the music playing in the background. I was very dissatisfied with the Mac n cheese. It was not flavorful at all and it didn't seem as thought it was a truffle Mac n cheese. For dessert I ordered the crème brûlée which was good but how can you really mess that up honestly. For a beverage I ordered the smoke old fashioned which was good...just wish it had more of a Smokey flavor. The service was impeccable. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. He gave great suggestions and seemed very knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance was superb. The aesthetic gave a fancy, class 1950's bar setting. A cute, classy, vibey jazz spot with delicious food and drinks. Went on a Friday night and was able to get seated quickly. I was pleasantly surprised since my previous attempts weren't successful without reservations. I highly recommend marking reservations. If you don't get seating at 18th & 21st you can still enjoy the restaurant portion at Cured. IF you enjoy truffles and scallops I definitely recommend their Truffle Croquette and Seared Scallops. And for dessert, try their Classic Creme Brûlée as it will not disappoint. The drinks were also good. They had some interesting concoctions and some twists on classic cocktails. A fine dining restaurant that no longer calls itself a speakeasy but still has all the vibes. Actually, a really high class speakeasy because it's bigger than your typical, has an elegant setting, and live piano music. You'd expect the cocktails to be great and they don't disappoint. But if you're a scotch or whiskey drinker, you are in for a treat. 600 bottles in stock. The food is really good; and exceptional by speakeasy standards (because many speakeasies only have light fare). This establishment is only for the grown and sexy, okay?! We had dinner reservations here for a friend's birthday party. Upon entering and providing our party's name, we were taken to a back room where a live band and singer were performing. The space was dark, mysterious, but also very romantic. I loved the atmosphere here. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a nice date night with live music. The singer also took requests, but of course she didn't know every song under the sun. Her voice was beautiful and having the live band really made it a night to remember. I am not an adventurous eater, so I kept it simple and ordered the burger and fries. It was cooked to perfection and was a great burger. If you're a fry conossieur like me, then you know all fries are not created equal. These fries were yummy! 5/5 I highly recommend this establish and would love to return soon. read more

Visiting here for our anniversary dinner. Very nice ambiance. Pretty intimate setting. I didn't care for the pork chop due to lack of seasoning but my wife loved her dish. Our waiter was pretty good. Would return and try another entree. read more
