Sonoma's Bar & Grill is a smallish restaurant and bar with good music, food, drink, and staff. We know someone in an all-woman Beatles-cover-band, Magical Mystery Girls, so we followed them to Sonoma's here and found a standing-room-only crowd! (Apr 2026). We hunted among filled tables until we found a one-seat open high-top and managed to beg another seat from elsewhere. We had a great view of the stage. We ordered beers directly from the bar because our table was sort of improvised. We got a Burger Shark draft, a smooth malty amber ale from Odenton's own Crooked Crab. And a good-old ice-cold bottled Natty Boh lager. The drinks were served right away. And in those few minutes, staff (it looked like a hands-on chip-in manager!) took us on at our invented table, and got our out-of-order food-order to us pretty quickly. We had a piping-hot sweet tender Yuengling-Beer-Battered Cod Sandwich on a brioche-textured bun, with a classic thick-yet-light crispy batter, american cheese, lettuce, and lightly spicy ranch. And a savory Grilled Smoked Portobello on a thick pretzel bun, piled high with roasted red peppers, onions, provolone, and lettuce. Both delicious and inexpensive. The band was lots of fun! Of course we knew every song. The band landed every riff and musical phrase that you know and love, yes they can hit Paul's high notes! And they bring enough original touches to each song to make the music their own. Tonight was their quartet (not their 6-piece band), and each musician had the lead in at least one song. They are loud, filling the room even with all the people soaking up the vibes. I almost didn't mention that Sonoma's keeps a dance-floor open in front of the stage, and we rocked all evening! We had a great boisterous, thirst-quenching, tasty, welcoming evening. I would expect this shopping center to re-grow around this popular long-time restaurant-bar music-venue (since 1996!). TLDR location info next, but it might save you a trip to the wrong shopping center. You'll find Sonoma's in the "Owen Brown Village Shopping Center" on the south arm of Cradlerock Way circle off Broken Land Parkway. This is the Center with the gas station, not the center next door with the big-chain grocery, and not the smaller center with the convenience store around the north arm of Cradlerock. This center is somewhat sleepy these days, so there's plenty of parking. There's more parking in a northeast lot, too. From the main lot, you walk by the nail salon, then turn between the buildings where the Chick 'n Friends chicken-shop used to be. (Best Pressure-fried Chicken and delicious catfish now at a different location!) It's a short walk southeast to Sonoma's on the right, with outdoor tables and a bright blue-and-yellow hard-seltzer ad facing the Lake Eikhorn trail and the back of the grocery. The actual Sonoma's sign above the entrance is subtle compared with the bright window ad. read more

Came here for a Steelers game as this is listed as a Steelers bar. The Steelers "fans" here were absolutely horrible, idk how they call themselves fans of this team. They were so loudly negative the entire game, and very clearly don't know the rules of the game. I'm not even a fan of the Steelers (went to support my boyfriend who is) and I was more positive about the team than the other people there. Food was over priced for the quality and quantity you receive. Alcohol was DEFINITELY over priced, not worth getting anything or you'll pay an arm and a leg. Staff was friendly and attentive though, the only positive out of the whole experience. Overall would not recommend. read more

Came into town and stayed at an Air BnB close by and decided to check this place out as it was super close. Let's just say I will never go back. Bartender was pompous and arrogant to say the least. Think his name was Mat. Looked like a little boy with his ball cap backwards. Slamming my boyfriend's drinks down like he didn't even wanna be there. A great dive bar filled with locals who come back for a reason. Happy hour is weekdays 3-6pm. Depending on the night, they have live bands, music bingo, trivia, or open mic karaoke. They also have darts, a ping pong table and two arcade games. There is also outdoor seating, great for warm days. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich (and fries +$), and shared the garlic pretzel bites and tots. Some dishes come with chips, with other sides at an additional cost. Honestly, food was pretty good. The pretzel bites were crunchy, but soft on the inside and had tons of garlic flavor on them, which I loved. The buffalo chicken was also great. Me and my cousin decided to check this place out as we were in the area, and had some time to spare. We wanted to sit back, catch up and get some food, so this place fit the bill to the tee. We got in on a Tuesday night and immediately got seated, granted, the place was empty, but service was prompt. We started with some drinks and were informed about the specials. That night they had wings for $9.99, so it was a no brainer to order some. We decided on the sriracha honey, which were really good. Wings sizing was also really good, tired of going to other places when they give you a snack sized wing (yeah, you know what i'm talking about!) but these were pretty big. Finally went to Sonoma's this weekend! My husband and I moved to the neighborhood 2 years ago and have been talking about getting over here for a while. We were not disappointed! It has the atmosphere of a local dive bar (which is a good thing!) while not being dirty or run down or anything... Just felt like a relaxing, not fussy place where you could hang out and watch sports or play a card game at the bar and nobody would rush you out of there. There are dart boards, a ping pong table, one of those electronic game systems at the bar - it brought back memories of small town bars I used to go to before I moved to upscale Columbia. And the food was really good! We both got a blue cheese bacon burger (which had some other name but I don't recall it). The burger was huge and had great flavor. Fries were crispy and hot and had good seasoning (I don't think it was Old Bay but kind of similar?). Their beer selection was decent and they appeared to have a full bar. It's a short walk from our house, so I can see it being a regular spot for us, especially if we want to have a few drinks while watching a game. It's also super convenient to Lake Elkhorn, you just cross under Cradlerock way and you will be right there. Looking forward to returning! Average meal. It's not a bad place to grab a burger, and try your hand at some trivia, but the happy hour prices weren't that great; you could definitely do better at other local nearby places. The food had a wide variety with reasonable prices. Entrees seemed to have unique ingredients and pairings, though the execution could use work (dry burger and bun). Nice little hideaway. We sat outside at one of the many tables they have, the weather was great for it! We attended the bottomless mimosas brunch and I must say those mimosas were AMAZING! Just the right amount of champagne and OJ. The eggs breakfast was very good, potatoes, and their shrimp and grits were just as good. It's OK to be a Grown Up in Columbia! According to Yelp, Columbia has 167+ family restaurants, but only really 2 grown up sports bar like establishments. Sonoma's and Nottinghams. This is a niche market! And one, when cultivated creatively, can be very lucrative! Shots make more money than sippee cups and chicken fingers. This is a grown up gathering place with poker nights, live music, sports events, shot girls, cornhole, karaoke, and yes, there are smokers on the patio. This is not California. So yes, parents with little kids should choose another venue for a Friday night because here...it's happy hour! There are a GAJILLION of true family friendly places in Columbia! Young professionals, workers of all types, servers, singles, work friends, and all fun grownups let's hang out here, ok? Let Applebees and Chucky Cheese keep their little kid screaming market, Sonoma's should be a cool grown up hang out spot! Simply because, we spend more on booze & grub than kids do! And we have credit cards! Now...having said that, I wish they would bring back the Happy Hour food menu. Right now, there's nothing. This is a bar and grill. But they have completely redid the menu. They take burgers to the next level. Turkey burgers with grilled granny smith apples, caramelized onion, provolone cheese and mango mayo. Now that's a combo. They have an app with various specials. The app alerts you. Jumbo lump crabcakes and steak is on the menu.. They don't have this at your normal bar and,grill Maybe they have changed management or owners since other helpers reviewed..but I've been twice and the food is delish. Good evening everybody, this is Steven posting on Cynthia's page again, baseball is my favorite sport by far and being in the midst of the World Series a sports bar was a must. I simply googled the best sports bars in Baltimore County and Sonoma's Bar and Grill popped up. Although it's in Howard County me and my Baby made the short trip to Columbia to check it out. There was nothing on the menu that attracted me except the fact that the internet claimed that they were one of the better sports bars around. It was a little tricky to find even though its in the Owen Brown Village shopping center. It was so tricky that we had to call them to find out exactly where they were, we could see the sign but it looked dark and closed to me, it's kind of a hidden back entrance. Anyway it was one of the few seat yourself restaurants and I'm glad we were acknowledged right away because there was no one else in this restaurant, in Columbia that looked like us! Where were all my " Black Columbians" at tonight? Lord have mercy, it got a little chilly and y'all decide to stay home, Lol. This is a pretty decent place. They had a live rock band playing some serious hard rock and as many monitors with sports that you could imagine, so being an old hard rocker, I was good and Cynthia didn't mind. We had the Buffalo Chicken Wings with Old Bay sauce and once again Cynthia being a connoisseur of wings said they were good and trust me, they were. We had Crab Stuffed Mushrooms which were two smoked portobello mushrooms topped with lump crab meat which was also good. I had a cream of crab soup which was very good. Now here's the thing, we were sitting there watching the game, listening to the rock band, not paying attention to the time and I guess the waiter wasn't paying attention to us and when we went to order something else she said the kitchen was closed. The only thing we could order were the homemade chips and more wings. The website says they're open until 1:30am and the waiter told us that the website was wrong and hadn't been changed. Oh well, it was a good night and this is a great sports bar, I'm not sure how long they can continue with the live music because this place was not busy at all and this band played almost the entire time we were there. By the way a few brothers did eventually show up which drew an applause from Cynthia, Lol. I do recommend Sonoma's Bar and Grill, 7284 Cradlerock Way in Owen Brown Village, Columbia. I'm not sure how many chances you are supposed to give a place before you give it a bad review....but I guess four is my limit. It's the small things that matter in a bar or restaurant. The fact that there is zero carbonation in the soda is not insignificant. It makes drinks taste bad. At these prices, you should have carbonated soda. I've mentioned this 4 times since early March 2018. This is a very small bar/grill kind of place that offers bands and even some light comedic entertainment. I have been here a few times, most recently on Cinco de Mayo (thats May 5th for all the non-spanglish speaking folks). We went there to see our frineds perform with their band New Old School and our friend DJ'ed there as well, Dj iRockJays! It was a nice night with drink specials and food for the Mexican inclined. The crowd was not too huge and we were able to get a table in front of the band set-up. There is no dance floor and you are literally in front of the band, but it is not that loud honestly. The staff is friendly, but they are understaffed on a full night, but they try their best to get your orders post-haste. My chicken tacos were a bit cold, but they were ok, and my Corona was cold and fresh so it wasnt too bad. The few times I have come here it has been a mixed crowd of young and old. It is a nice atmosphere, but like I said a bit small. It does have an outside patio area but it has never been warm enough for me to sit out there so yeah. I would probably only come here if my friends were performing with their band, but it would be well worth it. Come here for quaint surroundings, cold beers, and good times! read more

Sonoma's is an alright place. It's a "Bar and Grill" type joint.. but personally I think it's more like an Applebees with a large bar. They always have some sort of special and the food here is actually pretty good. They also have some sort of crappy live band there on the weekends. The prices are relative to more of a sit down restaurant instead of a bar. But like above, it is more of a restaurant. Beers here are expensive unless during happy hour. Tuesday night is half off the Angus burger (which makes it $5). Includes lettuce, tomato, and onions... anything else is .50 to .99 cents. Really not a great experience at all. I had high hopes for this place as it had trivia and karaoke in the same night, and it was very convenient to get to. - Despite checking the website AND calling the day before, I was not informed that reservations were taken for tables on trivia night. Instead, I was just told to show up 1/2 hour early. This resulted in our party showing up and not having a table. Mel did manage to eventually snag 4 seats for us at the bar. - I was charged full price for wings ordered within 10 minutes of Happy Hour and at the first opportunity we had to order after we got our bar seats. I was told I should have ordered earlier (I guess when we had no seats). - When trying to ask questions about the wings, I was rushed by the bartender, resulting in a stressful exchange. When the wings did arrive, they were underwhelming (not a lot of flavor and slightly undercooked; one wing appeared to still have numerous feathers underneath the sauce, and was therefore inedible). - I asked about mocktails. The bartender said he could "mix some juice together." A bit after that, he made some comment about us not ordering alcohol, that we should order a drink. I don't drink alcohol. I was only seated at the bar because of the table situation. The table situation plus the exchanges with the bartender led to me feeling relatively stressed out all night - NOT good for a first impression. By contrast, trivia itself was quite enjoyable. But between the mediocre food and the service (which honestly left me feeling like I was on the wrong side of an inside joke), I can't see myself going back there. read more

As with many places in Columbia, this one is hard to find! It's tucked in the back of one of those hidden shopping centers. If you live in the area, you know what I'm talking about. Please be advised that this is the Steeler's Fan Club headquarters!! I found this out when I arrived to watch Monday Night Football decked out in full Raven's gear! Sonoma's has lots of specials and bands throughout the week. If you join their e-mail list, you'll get the full scoop. We had $2.50 drafts and no cover on a Monday. The wings were awesome. Cheesesteak was okay, but the burger was AMAZING! It's pretty small inside but they do have outside seating and TVs everywhere. I'll probably be back for some wings and beer at some point. read more

This was the first time going to this restaurant and I went on a Tuesday evening at happy hour. It wasn't very busy yet so the service was good. The food was really good and they have a extensive lineup of food to choose from on the happy hour menu not to mention Tuesday nights are six dollar burgers. read more

Awesome local bar with good food. We started going to Sonoma's for NFL games and now stop in for a drink when it's not football season. Sonoma's staff is extremely friendly and very social. The food is typical local bar food but not all deep fried. I'll continue to go here for football Sunday's and every once in awhile to catch a band on a Saturday. read more

This is a great neighborhood bar. They have live music about every weekend and drink specials daily. I lived within walking distance so we could get as trashed as we desired and stubble home. he he! They knew us well! Well enough that when we had an occasion to celebrate and there were too many of us to handle, the didn't call the cops, just waited until the next time they saw us (probably one to two days later) and asked that we pay the tap - whoops! But of course we did and who knows the riches we gave in tips? The food is decent and great with one of their many beers on tap. Sizable space but it gets crowded fast. It's right across from Lake Elkhorn kiddie play area, bring a sitter and a DD and everyone gets a Happy Hour! lol. read more

My company orders carry out lunch here. I took a look at the menu and set my expectations accordingly - standard bar food fare. I ordered a bowl of chilli and a bowl of crab soup. The chilli was what I expected - average. Meat, beans, and some cheese on top. It was perfectly fine. When I took the top off of the crab soup it had a "different" smell. I couldn't put my finger on it. It didn't smell "bad" but it was definitely pungent. I was a little nervous to try it but I thought, "I'll have one spoonful. How bad can it be?" I dipped my spoon in, scooped out some crab meat, vegetable, and broth, and put it in my mouth. It was so horrible my initial reaction was to immediately spit it out but the thought of plastering my office and desk with this scared me even more. I quickly grabbed my trash can and spit it out. The crab soup was possibly the most vile thing I've ever eaten in my entire life and that's saying something. It tasted like someone had poured an entire salt shaker in the soup to cover the rotten taste. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth and my stomach was starting to get a feeling like I was going to gag. It was HORRIBLE. If I get food that I don't like I would typically just throw it in the trash and continue with my day. This was so bad I felt compelled to call the manager to let him know in case there was something bad in this soup so others wouldn't have the same fate. What especially concerned me is that I called 4 times between 7pm and 11pm and got voice mail. There's not a host or someone at the bar who picks up the phone?? I called the following day at lunch and one of the employees picked up. I asked for a manager and he said there wasn't a manager there. I asked when a manager would be there and he said he wasn't sure. he said that because it was Friday he wasn't sure if there would be a manager for the weekend. He asked me if I wanted a manager's personal cell number but I declined. Maybe this was an isolated incident. Maybe the food is normally good. Maybe they normally answer their phone and I called at a bad time. Maybe managers are normally on shift during lunch hours but the day I called they were out. I'm more inclined to think they have bad food and bad(absent) management. I know for sure that I won't be trying them again to find out. read more

She gave great food recommendations that were spot on. My husband, the rib connoisseur, absolutely loved the ribs. Ribs that were not his..... WOW!! I had a burger with avocado, YUM! The location is off the beaten path and can be a tad bit of a challenge to find if you are not from the area. We were in the area visiting family and was looking for a place with live music for New Year's Eve. When our Uber driver was dropping us off, I actually thought he was going to murder us because I could not find the front door of this place at all. Luckily, we lived to discover Sonoma's is located in the back of a rinky-dink strip mall, one that I have no desire to visit again. Now maybe because it was New Year's, or because of the band, or both, the place looked like it was going through renovations. The place is definitely laid out like a bar, with a large stage taking up the cramped interior. As we settled down at the bar and ordered our drinks, we noticed we stood out among the sea of silver hair. However, the band and drinks were great. The stage may not be in the best location for acoustics, but it was good for watching. I would definitely return to this place solely for the music. read more

I've been here a couple times and the workers and community people are very welcoming. Someone brought me here for a chill, fun time and I would say I quite enjoyed it. I had the crab fries (they can be a hit or miss); they were kind of greasy and the cheese wasn't as stringy but I liked them because I love crabs! Sonoma's is a neighborhood joint that is mostly a bar. Back in the old days, it was almost entirely a bar when Howard County allowed smoking in restaurants. When that was outlawed, only the outlaws had guns. Wait, that's wrong. When smoking was banned, they knocked down the wall separating the small section for regular eaters from the bar. Think of Sonoma's as a neighborhood sports bar with decent pub food. The french dip sandwich is a winner. read more

After going to Latin Night (salsa lessons) a few times at Sonoma's I invited friends to go tonight. We walk in at 8 and there's nothing going on so we take a seat at a table near the bar. A server comes over with a skowl on her face, no hello...and says "you want something to drink?" I ask about the salsa and she replies "there's no salsa here anymore" and proceeds to walk away. Sonomas is a great little, "local dive" although with recent renovations its not quite a "dive." We frequent this place a lot because of the happy hour specials--1/2 price appetizers. The bar is pretty small and gets crowded after 9pm. They do charge a cover on nights with live music (usually Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat) of usually $5. They offer video games, trivia, and shuffleboard. The food is typical bar food. I stick to appetizers and sandwiches mostly, so I won't speak for their dinner entrees in this review. I prefer the appetizers here to most of the other "village center bars" that I go to. They have Mac-n-cheese wedges and lets be for real, who doesn't like deep friend macaroni & cheese?! The service is hit or miss, but its a small bar so you can always just walk up to the bar to get what you need. The bands there aren't the best in the area, but this place has a following, so give it a try--there's something about the music that keeps folks coming back every week. I've only ever heard 1 really terrible band there. There an abundance of TVs here for watching sports, but this is not the place you want to take a group to watch a game (due to the size). Stick to this place for having a few drinks and dinner after work, or watching a game on the weekend with a few friends. read more
