Wanted to try a different place for breakfast, truly just because. My co-workers chose this place & I just tagged along. It wasn't til we were almost there that I checked the Yelp reviews. It's a small venue for take out orders, part of a short strip complex on a main road. It has parking lots on both sides of the short strip, so parking is easy. Typical to-go style interior, I didn't even bother taking pictures. They have a 3-Star standing here on Yelp, a lot of the complaints I saw were staff related, & we had the same experience. The person at the counter just seemed annoyed by the customers. As if he didn't wanna be bothered taking orders. He sighed and rolled his eyes A LOT. One customer came in, he recognized him and said "Your usual?" The customer said "Yes," & then the guy just turned around, rolled his eyes & mumbled "Jesus Christ." Now for the food. We all have to admit, our food was good, so I'm torn! One the one hand the customer service was crappy, on the other hand, the food was actually good. They are changing $1.50 each, think about it, I got 4 for $6 !!!! The guy said that they were big that's why they were $1.50 each. Every other bagel store in town is $1.25 each which is still overpriced. All I can say he's got me one time he will never see me again and I will spread the word in town that UNION bagel is not the place to go. I placed an order for pick up and apparently they don't believe in ordering cupholders. I had four large coffees and a couple of bagels. I asked the guy behind the counter. I'm assuming the owner for some thing to secure the coffee and he told me no just leave. His exact words he does it this way every day, and I need to get out of here smh. He proceeded to tell me it's always a problem with you. People are really disappointed. In that interaction. You really should do better for your customers nothing to be racist about. Overall Location. I passed this shop every single day for about 3 months before I finally decided to stop in. It's one of those hole in the wall, simple but functional type of places. If the location was convenient for me, and if I wasn't on a low carb diet, then I could definitely see myself becoming a regular. Staff There was only one person taking orders and preparing food for the 5 customers in line, including myself. I would say I spent no more than 10 minutes at the shop. The man was older and wasn't very talkative or overly inviting. He was there to take your order and that's it. I understand it was barely 8 am but a warm "Good Morning" would have gone a long way. Food I ordered bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. The bagel itself was fluffy and warm (as expected since it was only 7:45 am) but the meal itself wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I felt the bacon was a bit salty, I know some people love that but I'm not such a huge fan. And I doubt any seasoning was put on the eggs (salt and black pepper please!). They did have good coffee though! I sometimes find that coffee in local shops, unless ran by true Hispanics, is a hit or miss. The coffee was strong enough to keep me going that day and not watered down as I would have expected. Overall, I would recommend you stop by. Cheap breakfast in the area. I ordered turkey bacon egg and cheese on a roll with a side of home fries. My parents had the breakfast platter. It came with eggs home fries and you can add a side of meat if you want. It also came with toast but didn't realize until we got home that we didn't get it. The food was great no complaints it just took a while for us to get it. We waited for about 30 mins. It's a small place and people were coming and going. I would recommend this place but I would call in next time so we're not waiting for so long. The prices were also reasonable. read more

I don't know what planet people are living on, but anybody who says this place has good bagels, doesn't know what good bagels are. I got a variety of kinds, cinnamon raisin, plain, and everything. They are all varying sizes, some really small, some really big. They were soft, and mushy, worse than a Dunkin donuts bagel. All dough, no crunch on the outside, absolutely disgusting. I have been to this establishment several times and I have never had the 2-4 day old bagels I recieved today...My daughter who's birthday as is soon gets to pick breakfast on Sundays until her birthday...She chose bagels. I like the way they cook their food but the vent above where they make their food has a lot of dust hanging right over it and the ceiling fan in the middle of the store is straight black with dust. When I say straight black I mean to the point it looks like it was burned. They have other strong fans blowing so it is inevitably blowing dust around from all of those dirty vents. Union hot bagels has the best made on the spot fresh burgers!! The meat is very tender and so yummy with the added lettuce, tomatoes and caramelized onions. You have to try it for yourself!! Union Hot Bagels do not offer hot bagels at 8:30am. They are not even warm. I brought them home and sliced one up and it was like slicing a day old bagel. I toasted it and it tastes like a day old bagel. I have been here before and had bagels from here before and have not had this experience. I called the bagel shop and the manager insisted they were baked at 7 am. There is no way. These bagels are disappointingly unfresh and one step away from stale. The manager offered me half dozen bagels free next time I go in. At this point I am not sure it would be worth it. I don't want more of this same kind of quality or lack thereof :( read more

Because I am from the Elmora area in Elizabeth I know what a good bagel is. I grew up right living within walking distance from Elmora Bagels (RIP). I don't know if I will ever give another bagel 5 stars. I have tasted them all! Been to all parts of Jersey in search of the best bagel. In fact I am highly considering starting a thread that will illustrate via blog my next "Bagel Crawl". Union Hot Bagels has some good bagels. They are not the ol' roll with a hole. They are fresh, chewy, and have tons of power behind their Garlic bagels. They use a whipped cream cheese on their bagel sandwiches which I love! They are located right on Morris Ave in Union. The storefront is right next to the Lowes mini-mall and just off the GSP. If you are traveling and on the GSP you can safely exit off to get a bagel with quick easy access getting right back on. There is a lot to the side of the small complex where the shop is located and a handfull of street spots in front. I recommend trying to get in the lot. Morris Ave is very busy and street parking can be dangerous! read more

This used to be the old I Love Bagels which recently closed about a year or so ago. The new owner has put a lot of time, money, and effort turning this hole in the wall bagel shop into quite the delicious bagel spot. Featuring a much larger menu, including breakfast sandwiches, wraps, hot and cold sandwiches, as well as some of your standard deli salad fare. Fresh cream cheeses and coffee, Newspapers to start your day, and a wide selection of beverages. The bagels here are THE BEST bagels i have eaten. Always fresh, fat, fluffy, and so delicious. Perfect spot for a quick in and out bite for a breakfast samich early in the am! Their lunch menu is phenomenal also and everything is fresh on a daily basis. One thing i will say is if youre not a regular, dont expect tip top customer service. It's a great place. It has parking. It has nice people working there. It has an old school New York feel to it, the bagels are fluffy, fresh, very very good. It's cheap(.90 cents a bagel) Not perfect(Bensonhurst NYC 1970's) but I love this place. I hope it does well. I only tried Union Hot Bagels because of their proximity to my home. The bagels were fresh and tasted great. They were also the most reasonably priced bagels in the area. However, they didn't have my favorite - cinnamon bagel without raisins, which was offered at a bagel shop nearby a place at which I used to work (some 20 miles away). I had asked other bagel shops in my area if they would consider making a cinnamon bagel without raisins, but was given a list of reasons why they would not. When I asked the boss at Union Hot Bagels only last week, he said would give it a shot and when I went there today -- exactly one week later -- THERE THEY WERE -- CINNAMON BAGELS WITHOUT RAISINS!!! And they are delicious! It is rare to find a business that listens to their customers, but Union Hot Bagels is that business! We just can't get good bagels or bread in Charleston, SC. I'm originally from NJ but moved in late 1993. Luckily, I have a brother and his family who live there so on our recent visit I took advantage of the location and went to this bagel shop 3 times and on the way home I grabbed a dozen so that we could savor the bagels upon our return home. My brother suggested this place as he and his family live just a few blocks away as of last year. They have many spreads and LOX--my favorite! They make breakfast sandwiches that look amazing although I stuck to my tried and true, toasted sesame bagel with lox and cream cheese. There are also lunch sandwiches and had we not been running around NYC and NJ we probably would have had a sandwich. There is coffee and plenty of tea options...help yourself. Need an ATM? They have that too. I saw a lot of regulars coming in the morning for their breakfast on-the-go and the owners were super friendly and I could tell they knew them in this small town. The worst bagel place in the United States of America. This place is rundown, dirty, the food is horrible & the short man behind the counter wears muscle shirts which you can see his deodorant dingle berries in his hairy armpits while he prepares your food. The only time you will receive a hot bagel is after they throw it in the microwave or "toast" your bagel on the grill top next to the other items cooking. Stopped here to get an everything bagel with butter and what a disappointment. First, the top of the bagel was rock hard to the point of being inedible; the underside was barely cooked and gummy. Second, it was supposed to be an everything and there was only sesame seeds and maybe 5 poppy seeds. I don't care for sesame seeds, but on a typical everything bagel there aren't many and I can handle it. This may as well have been a sesame bagel. I had to chip off most of the sesame seeds. I love my butter and asked for extra. While I did get extra butter, I'm not sure it could be called butter. It was a slimy margarine-like substance that was so warm it seemed to have been left out for days. Nevermind the fact that the kitchen had no lights on, which was super strange and should have been enough of a red flag for me to abandon my order and get out of there. So where do I begin! I ordered the Mexican omelette and was burnt no cheese hardly no veggies dry Horrible!! The manager kept trying to tell me the omelette had cheese. Came in today nice small place. The guy who attended me was nice greeted me right away and started my order right away also. Breakfast sandwiches are good prices but to add meat it's $1.50 more I got a bacon egg and cheese it's $4.25 Without meat it's 2.75 plus tax. Little to much for a breakfast sandwich. Saw the prices for deli sandwiches and they were decent. Food was done right away. Bacon bagel was good I've had better but it was good no complains on it read more
