I have grown up in Westfield and lived here for over 20 years - used to go here frequently on the weekends and used to be our go to spot for bagel. The quality of the food has definitely gone down hill. These bagels used to be made with a lot of love. Now, there is barely enough cream cheese on the bagel, missed the salt and pepper in my order. Also, the onion to cream cheese to tomato ratio is so off - piled with onions - which is just not necessary this early in the morning. Overall, mediocre breakfast at best. It's been sometime since we had the whitefish salad and friends were kind enough to bring me some on their visit. The flaws are sooo avoidable! Kindly fix them. Please: clean the tables, melt the cheese, wipe down the high chairs, wash or replace the floor mats, charge consistent prices.... This is a pretty good consolidation of reviews left over the last year or so and my experience today. The refrigerator cases are filthy and the countertop is beyond repair. See photos. For all of the money being collected by the 3.5% fee for card transactions you should be able to do some long overdue renovations. Replace the cashier / phone order woman, or tell her that patience goes a long way. Her tone and attitude are miserable - "what do you need" and "ok see ya" are not helpful. We are located across the street and week after week the service and the quality of the food just keeps getting WORSE!! We ordered crispy chicken salads with cheddar cheese and extra ranch on the side, we received no extra dressing (which was paid for) no cheese, one tomato, shredded AND whole lettuce thrown together, And when it's brought to the attention of the manger Adel, the person answering the phone is defended and he wants to offer credit or one salad for free. EVERY week there is something wrong with our order. When my manager physically went to confront the manager and get a refund, the girl at the front said "oh what yall cant afford the salads"? I went to Bagel Chateau for the first time this week and I am so glad I did! The service, bagel, and price were all perfect. (More details below.) It's located in a strip mall where there is plenty of parking, even when it's quite busy. When I walked in, I was surprised to see that the inside was more like an upscale cafe. Most other bagel shops are kind of barren and un-decorated, so I thought it was quite a cute little environment. The lighting was slightly dimmed and there were really cute two-top and four-top tables. I noticed that they were all clean, as was the floor and the self-serve coffee bar. Let me preface this next part by saying that I literally wasn't paying attention to the signage, and that it was appropriate, directly posted, and easy to read. So there are two lines, one for getting plain bagels to go, and the other for "Anything on a Bagel." I totally misunderstood, thinking the "plain line" was for just your basic bagels and cream cheese. (I thought the "Anything" line referred to the bagel specials/meals which were displayed above the counter area.) The gentleman who helped me was SO nice and explained the difference, and still got my order instead of asking me to change lines. He couldn't have been nicer, and even asked me if I wanted coffee too. I told him it was my first time there, and he was very welcoming and excited to have a new customer. He even said he hoped I'd come back again to try their other menu items! I got a rye bagel with low-fat cream cheese which was fresh and delicious. I am someone who LOVES rye and pumpernickel, and I'm pretty picky about it, and their rye bagel was out of this world. It was soft without being under-cooked-- just right! I also saw a variety of other uniquely flavored bagels, including sun-dried tomato, spinach, and whole wheat. I believe they even have different toppings (seeds/everything/etc.) for their whole wheat bagels, which is something I rarely see elsewhere. As for the bagel specials, everything looked and smelled fresh based on what I saw in other people's orders. I'd be excited to try anything else there. All in all, it's definitely my new bagel spot! I've lived in Westfield for my whole life, Bagel Chateau has been a staple in my family for years. Recently, ever time I order from them something is wrong and it's gotten to the point where I have to write a review. I order a taylo, egg and cheese with a medium order home fries, you cant go wrong with that right? The previous time I ordered I nearly broke my tooth do to a small pebble in the home fries, this time I ordered and the home fries were littered with sizable peices of eggshell. I understand that they cook everything on the same grill but it isn't hard to not break the shell all over the flat top. The taylor, egg and cheese is decent but the bagel is always dry and even though probably an hour or two old, never tastes fresh. Today was the last straw with this establishment and I will not be returning, I highly suggest you do the same. read more
