They tried to say I didn't add the tip but I did press the 25 percent button. They don't realize that they can control the transaction from their side. She didn't even let me send myself the receipt because she was moving the screen along so fast. They purposely left the cheese off of my sandwich after asking me if I wanted it. 2 bagel sandwich and 2 plain coffees for 28 dollars. Insane that the would charge that much and ask for a tip and not even bring the food out. When I told them about the cheese she said "you ate it already" so I brought the other half of the sandwich without the cheese for proof. They showed me the screen that showed the receipt and said I left no tip. I suspect the whole visit was an attempt to humiliate me about the tip that they decided I was lying about. A very okay breakfast sandwich spot. Tried a few different things like the bagels, breakfast wraps, lattes, etc. and it's always been a decent enough place to grab a bite when we really needed it. The iced latte was probably the star of the show, lots of love for the iced latte for getting me through a very tired morning. But the sandwiches have been nothing great or memorable with not too much meat. Sadly I think I will need to keep looking for a breakfast sandwich spot in town. read more

I guess this is TECHNICALLY an updated review, lol. I used to come here when it was Fanwood Deli, but they have re-opened and rebranded as Bagel Cafe now. Same setup, but with a facelift. No complaints about service, I could tell that the young Woman working the counter was new, but everything went smoothly. Most importantly, the food was excellent as ever. To recap on the setup of this place, medium sized venue with some tables and chairs for indoor eating. Street parking in front. Simple place with good breakfast & lunch food. This is pretty embarrassing. Check out the photos and you'll see what I mean. Ordered a bacon,egg and cheese on a roll and this is what I got. There was definitely more ketchup in this sandwich than bacon or egg. This is the equivalent of making a sandwich with one slice of cheese and one slice of ham. Its 10:00am on a Friday, do we need to go shopping for more bacon and eggs? I don't care what the price is, management, please dont allow this kind of breakfast sandwich to leave your shop again. I also think it would have been nice if she informed me that using my card meant I would have to pay 5 or 10% extra instead of just adding it on like I wouldn't notice. The Bagel Cafe is a nice upgrade over the previous shop here. Good selection of coffee. Bagels are about average, large, fluffy - not as puffy or crisp as I generally like, but good. Nice selection of bagel flavors and cream cheeses. Service was quick, not terribly warm / friendly. Interior has a few tables, but it's extremely spartan and dark - basement like. While I think that the bagel experience alone is 3 or 4 stars for its consistency and the ease of getting in and getting out, I cant imagine giving this place anything over 3 stars with their breakfast sandwiches. The breakfast sandwiches are woefully thin, and have been since opening. They feel like what you'd expect to get if you ordered a breakfast sandwich on an airplane. The egg is a wafer thin sheet, and the meat is about as plentiful as water in the desert. That makes for an especially sad experience for the breakfast sandwich roll lovers as well, because you aren't even justifying the thin sandwich with a good bagel (and to be clear, the bagels are consistent, not otherworldly). I do hope that as the store gets established, they can address the lackluster breakfast sandwiches to make this a better AM option. read more

Bagel Cafe is a new bagel bakery/deli which took over this location from Fanwood Bagel, which had been an anchor store in downtown Fanwood for the past 24 years. The previous owners retired, and sold the business to these folks, who own another Bagel Cafe store in New Providence. The new owners are still in the process of renovating, which sadly included letting go the old staff. The bagels are large, but more bready than chewy, with little flavor. The cream cheese spreads are good. Food prices continue to rise here, there, and everywhere. Bagels are $1.50 each. One bagel with a shmear of cream cheese is almost $5.00. I haven't tried their other food. read more

The bagels themselves are a little more bread and not chewy as a bagel should be the bagel itself are two out of five Got a egg, white bacon and cheese. The bacon was crispy, but there was barely any egg whites on there at the bagel didn't really help itself so overall 2.5 out of five. Coffee was good. Onw was cool. I should've read the reviews before spending money here. Tried this spot because Dunkin is being renovated and I'm not coming back. Expensive sub par food ($8 dollars for a paper thin sausage egg and cheese bagel. Tons of menu items that aren't available which is crazy for a coffee shop like espresso, cold brew, lemonade, smoothies and I don't think they've ever had matcha or Chai. Customer service was below average but at least one guy in the back was nice when he gave me my sandwich. The ambiance is decent but with blocked outlets and no wifi, it's not a good cafe for completing tasks on your laptop as you sip the coffee they don't have. I don't know who's making the executive decisions here but it seems like this place won't last with the direction they're headed in. Maybe the experience was so bad because they're already going under. 90% of the coffee menu is unavailable, overcharging for simple mediocre items. Might be signs that this spot is fighting for its life. Idk how overcharging people will save it tho. I feel I wasted my money to be honest but hey it's ok, you lose some and win some. read more

Visited the Bagel Cafe in Fanwood today & I had the yummiest wrap filled with egg whites, fresh baked turkey, spinach & mozzarella. All ingredients so fresh, tasty & filling. The staff are attentive & the owner was pleaseantly cordial. Ill be going again very soon, and look forward to their Ethiopian blend coffee which is amazing. Bagels were good but I would say a big difference from the previous owner's recipe. I went in not realizing the ownership changed and after I tried the bagels I knew I had to jump on yelp to check if this was the same shop I grew up eating bagels at. The bagels aren't bad but it's just hard to follow up the previous fanwood bagel shop which I felt had the best bagels in the area. These bagels are very similar to the place on Terrill near 22 in that they are slightly airy, but I would probably give these bagels the edge. I also tried the plain and strawberry cream cheeses and they were definitely a hit. They also take credit card which is a plus. I rarely carry cash these days but I stopped by the atm prior to my visit thinking it was the fanwood bagel cash only experience. If I needed my local dozen bagel breakfast and cream cheese fix then I would come here over the other one in town. read more

The previous owner didn't do any maintenance and the place looked so dirty. The new owner cleaned the place up. Both of their bagels are passable for an nyc bagel type. The price did jump up, understandably since the stream lined everything. The service is sporadi. Sometimes my order's wrong. Sometimes they're all smiles and sometimes they aren't. The new owners have made so many improvements to this bagel place and it's great. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The bagels are very good and so is their coffee. Fanwood as a community is clicky and so hard on their small businesses because it is a small town. It's so nice to see this place making it happen in a tough town like this. I feel as if some negative reviews within this thread are biased in the sense that the reviewer is still upset that the original Fanwood Bagel is no longer a location. What the new owners have done so far with making their own breakfast products and completely revamping the inside of the store has been amazing. A lot of people put immense pressure on the new owners to carry on the legacy of what Fanwood Bagel did for this town, and I believe they have transitioned very well.
