Walking in, I was immediately reminded of the no-frills bagels store/deli where I (as a teen) would get an everything bagel with cream cheese, washed down with a Snapple. Then to my 20's when I would find the delis in Brooklyn (Sonny's, Graham Ave) that served up HUGE portions of fresh custom subs. Having moved away and slowed down the metabolism, I was overwhelmed by the portions and nostalgia as I ordered, and carried home what is more like a torpedo than a sub. Delicious! Service is fine, the assembly line design done well. I want to order off the old specials board, just because. Instead you can grab yourself a delicious sub sandwich from one of the OG establishments of Westfield. So far I've only tried the Italian sandwich, but I was very happy about the taste and freshness of the bread. This place uses a soft sandwich bun, less like the harder, crunchier shells found in Italian delis. My update to five stars is long overdue, as I've eaten hundreds of subs from Hershey's since they opened in 1968. When a food shop is famous for one item, and they've been making it the same way for half a century, you know they've perfected it. #17 ($12) is provelone, boiled ham, pepperoni, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, olive oil & red wine vinegar, and a touch of dried oregano on an Italian loaf. They make this to order in about 60 sec. This is real fast food. This Westfield staple has a history, and the grunge to prove it. The owner, who worked here as a high school kid, has certainly been in it for the long haul. He's now providing part time jobs for the next generation, as well as doing a lot of philanthropic work for the community. read more

Have strong nostalgic memories of this place from when I grew up in Westfield. Coming back, definitely solid but not something I'd go out of my way for. Turkey with cheddar - 3/5. Crispy bread, decent helping of turkey and cheese. There is a memorable oil, salt, pepper flavor. But it just all comes together feeling like a homemade Mozzarella sticks - 2/5. Generous cheese but also felt stale. Marinara sauce pretty basic. Fries - 2/5. Nice flavor but stale. We picked them up before the estimated pick-up time and ate immediately. read more

Omg - an old haunt of mine - lived in town and it was always my place for delicious subs...just stopped by with my wife and the decor hadn't changed since 1968 - filthy environment, dusty shelves and the floor hasn't been cleaned or waxed. The tables were dirty and the seats were sticky...it's sad being in business for 53 years and the current owners don't take pride in their establishment- only to prepare food and make the cash register RING. I walked into this nice deli located in a very nice area for some breakfast with my friend. The people were friendly but the food was not up to the standards. They did not have strawberry milk, which is weird for a deli since they should have all types of milk. I opted in for the chocolate milk which tasted a little funny. I have been ordering here for years because my office is just around the corner. They have some of the best subs in Westfield . I have never had a bad combo sub here ever and they even have some hot sandwiches if you are looking. Hot pastrami on Rye and the Tuna Melt on Rye are my favorites. The owners definitely know the regulars and makes small talk with them when it's not too crazy which is nice . The staff have that sandwich making down to a science . They do get super busy around lunch but they wait isn't bad at all. You can always call in the order ahead of time which I definitely recommend when you have a big order. I went with the "super" Italian sub, and it was just ok. The cheese was super mild, and the meats didn't have a strong flavor. I asked for oil and vinegar, and the sandwich was soaked. That said, the veg was fresh and the bread was soft but tasty. I went to get a bag of chips and my flavor was on a "shelf" on the ground. A bag in the back was open... hopefully not by something small and furry. This place looks old and a bit run down on the inside. Great place for a breakfast sandwich, with excellent service and an old school feel. Got a sausage egg and cheese, and they didn't skimp on the ingredients like some places tend to do. Best deli sandwiches in Westfield. Great menu board with numbered sandwich combination selections. They also have a nice assortment of ice cream deserts in the freezer below where you order. Great for takeout. Parking is horrible. Some times I park in the train station parking lot and cross the street. Service is atrocious. The younger folks that work there have a case of the mumbles and are miserable. I have not seen anyone smile there in the 3 years I have been going there. The owners/managers are OK I guess. This place is ok for their flat grill foods like hot dogs, cheeseburgers and cheesesteaks. Their deli meats are atrocious just like Jersey Mike's there is nothing redeemable about their cold cut sandwiches. Onion rings were freezer burned and the cold cut sandwiches have an abominable mushiness to them like they had been soaking in oily water. I find it amusing, the Kohler deli meat brand that they use must be made by the same company that manufactures sinks and toilets because that's what it tasted like. The best sandwich shop in Westfield is across the street and its called Manhattan Bagel - bar none. If you are used to your cold cut sandwiches having Boar's head products you will be disappointed with this place with certainty. Besides their hot breakfast sandwiches and hot sandwich specials, I would not visit here ever. People have been making this place out to be the last bastion of sandwiches or something. There's a reason why places die or close down. No inordinate amount of nostalgia can keep a place open forever or maybe not since people in NJ will obviously eat food from a trough and think its excellent. Don't forget the lettuce and sandwich fixings that were all over the floor and not swept up. I'm always looking for something tastey to eat after getting off the train when visiting Westfield. Decided to try Hershey's instead of other surrounding eats, and boy, I'm sure glad I did!!! Super delicious meatball parm hero. One of the best ever! And its old school jersey inside - which I personally love... reminds me of the shore.
