This is a very good little sandwich shop, if not impressive physically. The meats are well refrigerated and visible and clearly very fresh. The chicken salad looked so fresh that that's what I ordered! All the vegetables and the rye are also fresh and high quality. Server wears gloves while making your sandwich, and was a pleasant guy. The sandwich itself was superb. read more

Hill City Diner is a great name for a diner in Summit. Because Summit means the top of a hill. Genius. I came for breakfast. Had a sausage, egg, and cheese. Classic. Hits the spot. Very small place. You would have to leave to change your mind. 3 hard working guys in a kitchen cast iron frying pans. That's fun. I guess they are famous for Sloppy Joes? Now in Massachusetts Sloppy Joe is ground meat in tomato based sauce. Like loose ground meat. New Jersey has a different sandwich. Probably a guy named Joe but a different guy. Still sloppy, though. It's in the back. Have to access from DeForest Ave. Behind the big parking lot across from CVS. First hour to park in that lot is free. I think 35 cents transaction fee. Pretty fast service. Cramped place but very clean. read more

Hill City Deli - Delis Near Me - Summit, New Jersey

This is a little hidden gem. Small, hard to find spot hidden in the alley way near the parking lot on deforest. Place is super small yet offers a nice little menu of items. Walked in and couldn't believe how small this place was. The entire deli can't be any bigger than 100 sqft. 2 guys working the deli are super friendly. We ordered the turkey sloppy Joe and cheesesteak. Also tried the tuna. Tuna was really good. Will definitely get that on some rye bread next time Sloppy Joe looks like the twin of millburn deli sloppy joes. Taste was almost as good. If millburn deli sloppy Joe is a 10 for taste then this sloppy Joe a 9. Very good with better prices. Sloppy joes are $9 to 11 pretty much no matter what you get on them. Even with 2 meats. FYI. They put American cheese on their sloppy joes but will switch to Swiss when asked. Cheesesteak was good. Ordered a regular plain cheesesteak with American cheese and nothing else on it. It was good but just the best. Maybe 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Definitely worth it. I would suggest giving this little place a try. The workers who are probably the owners are great guys and work their asses off. Next time I'm in summit I'm going to stop by again. read more

Some things are inevitable- like Money Love & Change - not sure what happened but in between visits, they moved to a system where they weigh the meat for the subs. That won't do. Plus sub roll was turning towards stale. I am not in Summit often - next time I am hungry for a sandwich & I'm in Summit I might have to Boogie On over to Chatham read more

Once you find it, this place is a hidden gem. This place can fit about 5 people max and despite its address, it is essentially incorrect as it is not on the road it says it is. It's in the back alley. We were in town to visit a local store and wanted some food to take home with us. The staff is excellent and quick. We got an egg and cheese - solid and a pastrami on rye - very good. They are known for their "sloppy joes" so I'm sure they are great, I just don't care for coleslaw and/or Russian dressing. Overall I can see the appeal and I would probably frequent it if I were local. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Tiny and kind of tucked away, you wouldn't even know it was there. I'm so glad I found it. It's the first time I tried a NJ Sloppy Joe. Being a vegetarian, I get the All-Cheese Joe. After having gotten that once, it's the only thing I order there now. Highly recommend!! read more

Great food and service, lots of variety from salads to sandwiches to soups, all excellent.

This is my go to deli when I'm in a rush and don't have time to sit down and eat. It's a tiny little spot, standing room only, but the service is excellent, just call 15 minutes ahead with your order! The owner and his wife are very sweet people and they put a lot of hard work into the business and it shows. I love supporting businesses like these! read more

Entrance on Alley St. Service was great and sandwich perfect. Coffee made how I like it.

Great little deli. Best sloppy Joe's in Summit maybe the entire area. Great staff fast and kind. They can crank it out. You know it's good when you keep running into police officers. All old school recipes. You really have to try the brothers out read more

Down an alley that runs parallel to Springfield Ave right in the center of town... Resides the smallest deli in the Western Hemisphere. While they are awaiting the Guinness's Records designation plaque, you can beat the crowds and sink your teeth into Summit's best kept secret. This is a deli with heart... but it's not on the menu. So two words... SLOPPY & JOE. Yea.. they do not mess around... home made slaw on that beast! Oven roasted turkey & Roast Beef made in-house as well. This deli may be small in size but do not be fooled.. their sandwiches are huge and their construction is on point... forget your artisanal overpriced dandy sandwich shop, get back to basics... and let the professionals craft you Sammie that you can be proud of saying... "I ordered that all by my self" read more

If you love bread, this is the place to go!!! There's literally only 2 slices of meat on their sandwiches so all you taste is bread. Also, prices change daily for the same items. read more

Fed a mix of 10 adults and teenagers with their classic and turkey sloppy Joe's. Sandwiches were delicious, filling and a nice surprise for my company. Also added some salads and chips. I put in my order in the morning and all was ready on time. Prices were reasonable - perhaps because they're not on the Main Street in Summit but tucked away back by the public parking lot. They would go out of business if they weren't a hit with the locals. And they appreciated the order and helped load the food into my car. So I highly recommend them and would use them again. Got rave reviews from my hungry teenage guests read more

Food was amazing ,service was also amazing all the employees were nice 100%recomend. I would recommend the Taylor ham it's my favorite sandwich at the moment and I think you guys should try it. The area is also calm and there is always parking read more

Looked a deli up on yelp and saw this was nearby. Very small place but the sandwich I ordered was really good. Was wrapped nicely and the order came out about 10 minutes after ordering it. Came to about $10. So pretty normal / slightly above average pricing. read more

Hill City Deli - Delis Near Me - Summit, New Jersey

Took me a solid 10 minutes to find this place. It's a little hidden gem that's behind the banks in town (not sure why my phone was guiding me incorrectly). What an absolute delight to try their breakfast sandwich (taylor ham/egg/cheese). The taylor ham was on the softer side vs being crispy (which I actually like better). The egg was cooked nicely (wasn't TOO fried and browned). Cheese on the top and bottom is a good move. Having all of this on a kaiser roll works so well because it doesn't take away from the flavor of the contents like a bagel sometimes does. Would have added a picture if I didn't finish it so quickly. Overall, I'm happy I found this teeny tiny deli and would definitely stop by again. Very pleasant workers too! read more

I think for a breakfast sandwich they do a pretty good job. The prices are a little high and often vary. Sometimes it's $6 for a breakfast sandwich sometimes it's $5.40 idk why. The bagels are sometimes good and sometimes not. It's convenient for me when I am hungry and don't feel like waiting for parking for manhattan bagel (I like bagel sandwiches over rolls). Overall it's a solid 3.5. read more

Good for a grab and go or fresh made sandwich. The staff was friendly and took our order right away. I got the namesake sandwich and it was very tasty. They double check that you know what comes with an everything order. I should have said light vinegar because that was a little too much. Other than that, the ingredients were of good quality. read more

Awesome people, great food! I honestly haven't had anything bad there. And they are always so nice. My go to is the Ciabatta bread hot sandwich with pesto and added avocado. It's seriously a great deli! I've gone multiple times a week for lunch break because I know I'm going to get a good meal! read more

This place is SO good. Classic deli style, and they cook all their own meats and toppings. If you can't find it, the entrance is on the back of the building (same building as Summit house), it's just a little pickup place. We had the Cubano and it was delicious. Really flavorful and the bread was great. Will be back to try the Sloppy Joe's! read more

I was very happy to see the Hill City Deli reborn-terrific sloppy joes, and even the switch to Anthony & Sons rye bread (from Pechters I think) hasn't changed the quality. The in-house roasted roast beef and turkey are terrific, the salads waaay above average, and watching them work their magic in such a small space is a treat itself. Not cheap, but a good sloppy joe isn't. The giant (free, for under 1 hour) parking lot is also a big plus! read more

This is my favorite deli. They make the best sandwiches and salads. Customer Service is impeccable! They take their time to listen and give you exactly what you want and how you want it. read more

Hill City Deli - Delis Near Me - Summit, New Jersey

I moved back to Jersey 7 months ago. I had to have my Taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich. Let me tell you not all are created equal. Hill City Deli got it right! 6layers of Taylor ham!!! (See the pic attached). This little deli can run with the big boys. The bonus is 30 feet away on Sundays is the Summit farmers market. I can jam down a sandwich and then pick up fresh produce for dinner read more

Hill City Deli - Pastrami and corned beef sloppy Joe. H e a v e n. - Delis Near Me - Summit, New Jersey

We flew in from Florida, myself, 2 kids.... In their 20's, and my girlfriend... She never had a REAL sloppy Joe, so off we went to hill city deli! Imagine my surprise when I found it was no longer in the place I remembered. But when I did find this tiny..... An understatement.... Deli, I was pleasantly surprised to find the sloppies were perfect! Gigantic, bursting with flavor and not expensive..... We got 3....and will get 3 more today! Go there! read more

Cute little family run deli. Doesn't do everything, but what it does it does right and with fresh ingredients. Had the BLT on rye toasted with mayo and was delicious. My wife enjoyed a turkey wrap with all the fixins. Will definitely be back. read more

Glad to see an old Summit institution return. These two brothers are doing a great job, and the sloppy Joe's taste just like I remember. It's right behind the old Hill city, so stop in for a sandwich folks. Since writing that first review I have become a big fan of their breakfast sandwiches (BEC & SEC - Haven't tried the Taylor ham yet). Not as much meat as the summit diner, but tastier - I think it's the eggs. My wife thinks it's because they cook them in a giant cast iron skillet. I also like the Kaiser roll better. Give em' a try next time your craving a breakfast sandwich. read more

I worked for Anthony at the original Hill City on Maple St (the FIRST Maple St store) back in the 80's - they made the best Sloppy Joes then - I was worried they'd change them up at the "new" Hill City, but nope! Grabbed one when I was in town this past weekend and was NOT disappointed! Just as fresh, just as incredible - Anthony would have been so proud of you guys! read more

Excellent sandwiches in hidden spot in Summit. A lot of locals go here at lunch and on the weekend (especially Sundays during the farmers market from April-Oct). Solid sloppy Joes, but I usually get the Cajun Turkey (turkey, avocado, pepperjack, roasted peppers, with choice of sauce pesto or ranch [ask for both]). Most sandwiches are around $10, and are big enough to spout. read more

Best spot in town! Great men and women working there and top quality breakfast and lunch sandwiches

Great sandwiches and super friendly staff. This is my go to deli for Taylor Ham egg & cheese. Love the sloppy joes too

One of my rare 5 star reviews, this place is awesome all around. Small place, but the flow of customers proves just how good it is. Their sloppy joes are hard to compete with, and their staff is top notch. I'd definitely give this place a look if you were in the area and in the mood for a sandwich read more

There are deli's and then there's Hill City. I've been a customer for many years....it is always excellent. I'm usually local so I'm there daily. I have been out of town and had to find food elsewhere....it's always a disappointment. It seems impossible to find a deli with a real personality that cares about the food they prepare for you. Just for a suggestion, ask them to make Don's tuna fish sandwich for you. Try it.....see if it doesn't make you cry.....it's that dang good read more

The absolute best sloppy joe sandwiches on the earth. Hill City has great service and all sorts of amazing food. I was very happy to see all the guys today after picking up an order of two fresh turkey joes. Thanks Anthony read more

this deli is my favorite/I visit every time I'm in nj!was previously at a location down the street & is run by the guys who worked at the original. all of the amazing food is still the same (including the Joe's, delicious sandwiches, and cold cuts to go etc) read more

The Sloppy Joes are just as good as they ever were. Rey Garcia makes sure of that. So, now, the joint is a hole-in-the-wall facing the parking lot, around the corner from its old Maple Street location. They still make the best sloppy joes this side of Millburn Deli. I drove all the way there from PA, to get what I used to love about North Jersey, and living in Summit. These sammies ROCK (and you can feed 2-3 people, or get at least two meals from one joe). Prices are reasonable for what you get. Oh, yippie skippy! read more
