OGDEN Restaurant weeks begins!! The hubs and I decided to try Union Grill as our first restaurant week meal. Got to the restaurant during the height of dinner rush, so being asked to wait for a bit to be seated wasn't too surprising or shocking (although there were obvious empty and open tables). Once we were seated - in one of the open tables - we waited over 10 minutes before ANY ONE acknowledged our existence. When the server did arrive, we ordered everything all at once not knowing when we would see the server again. Server brought the hubs' beer and my glass of water then a bit later my fairly warm white wine. I mean, why not bring the entire bar order out together? warmish, white wine wasn't all that great. Our appetizers: his the artichoke dip and mine the fried asparagus. We liked them both. Could have used a couple more pieces of baguette with the artichoke dip! The dip with the asparagus fries was a "tad garlicky". I like garlic so not a big deal to me, but the hubs is not a garlic fan. So he skipped it altogether. So, while we were still enjoying our appetizers, the entrees arrived. Not sure why the kitchen/server brought the entrée out when it was obvious we were still eating our appetizers. Entrees: Hubs had the chicken and sausage gumbo. He liked it. Said it had a bit of a kick! I had the Lobster Mac N Cheese. it really had the potential to be good. could have used a bit more sauce to make it more creamy and not quite so dry. The lobster.... not sure if it really was lobster or maybe "imitation crab"? not a big deal if imitation crab, but it wasn't the classic lobster look and texture. Desserts: hubs had the carrot cake and I had the chocolate raspberry cake. Cakes were moist and fairly good. I'm not much for too much sauces and what not, could have used "less raspberry sauce" on my cake. But I did eat most of it :P Atmosphere: fairly nice. there is a bit of a historical element to the building the restaurant is in. If the service would be better, we might consider going back more frequently. I ordered a house salad to start with balsamic which was nice and refreshing. Followed with the lemon butter chicken which was more like a chicken piccata. The chicken seemed interesting in texture but the flavor was great. The rice and broccoli made it a nice light dish. Also went with the strawberry cheesecake which was huge! We came on A Friday night I understand it can be busy the wait was around 30 minutes we were ok with that. Lisa the manager took my number and said she'd call us 45 minutes later we went to check they said they had attempted to call. I never received a call they told me it would be 20 more minutes. When the hostess mentioned this to Lisa she Shrugged and walked on by she didn't even acknowledge my presence, she walked by two more times and then had the hostess tell me to wait outside. I never got to try the food, but if the manager acts like this then I can't imagine the staff is much better, all I wanted was for her to acknowledge that a mistake had been made. That either a call was never made or their service to make calls is messed up. If a call was made leave a voice mail and let us know our table is ready. The most disappointing thing about this is it was my wife and mines first date since February and was supposed to be celebrating my birthday, so instead of a nice meal I'm having Del Taco, which will be getting 5 stars when compared to the service I received at union grill. read more

We finally made it to the new location of Union Grill, it moved from Union Station to 24th Street over by the Junction. Super cool old building, we loved the old school vibe. I had the Deluxe Grilled Chicken, which was blackened chicken, bacon, whole green chiles and Beehive cheese. It was fantastic. Thom has one of the specials of the day, a French Dip sandwich, a classic version of it and he said it was really good. We were impressed by the quick and attentive service and how happy and friendly everyone who worked there was. read more

Went to Union Grill for lunch with some co-workers yesterday. I was thinking of getting the caprese appetizer but I know it's sometimes hard to find good tomatoes in the winter, so I asked our waiter, who shall remain nameless in the spirit of the season, how their tomatoes were looking. He replied in a snarky tone that he didn't know, it wasn't like he chopped them personally or anything. I explained why I was asking and he said, "Well, they're not going to give you shitty tomatoes." There were several other similarly unimpressive interactions with him throughout the lunch. Nobody needs that type of negativity and poor service in their life. Our food was, averaged out, just OK. The fries were battered, crispy and quite good. The burgers were declared to be mediocre. My boss found the Mac n Cheese to be delicious and creamy. My caprese did indeed have non-shitty tomatoes, but the basil looked like it had fallen on tough times. I also had the soup and salad: the French Onion soup tasted like a bouillon cube and the salmon pasta salad consisted of some spiral pasta with a few veggies and a little salmon, dressed in what tasted like store bought ranch. The atmosphere is impressive, however. Whoever decorated the place did a great job. It is eclectic and interesting. Unfortunately, in the balance, I don't think I'll be back. read more

I ordered the blue cheese bacon burger and asked to go easy on the blue cheese because I don't really like blue cheese. Hear me out, I'm always open to try things I don't like if they are part of a dish-- this burger was amazing. The bun is always important to me and this one was on par. My sweet potato fries were a bit cold and this is where they get lost a whole star for me. Another -.5 star for not offering a refill of my drink but that was on the drink server, so I won't penalize them in my rating. Their bread pudding was so so good and generous. Great atmosphere and definitely a great spot to visit while in Ogden. I had the blue cheese bacon burger. I'd give the burger 3 and the atmosphere a 5. I will definitely visit again when I'm back in town. read more

The hot wings were fantastic as always, but the rest of my meal was nowhere near as good. I ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Large portion sizes of both. The meatloaf lacked flavor; it was very bland. The gravy also didn't really add anything. (Ketchup made a big difference--what does that tell you?) The mashed potatoes were like a heavy paste. There was a side of zucchini and carrots (not on the menu--it just showed up on my plate). Huge slices of RAW zucchini. Only one of the zucchini slices was even remotely cooked. The carrots were raw as well. I don't know if the chef was lazy, or thought raw vegetables was a good compliment to overall dish. Needless to say they were inedible and I chucked them on my salad plate. My husband had the steak fajitas and enjoyed them, but he said his Pepsi was flat. Service was excellent. read more

My wife and I dined here for dinner last night. The server, Amanda was great and very attentive and the food was ok. I am giving one star because we witnessed a man at the bar who was slouched over and falling asleep. The server Amanda seemed to be on her own with taking all the tables in the restaurant and handling this intoxicated patron. I watched and heard her ask to order him an Uber, but he was beyond being able to communicate. I saw the manager run up to her after she attempted to remove the patron and heard him yell at her for asking him to leave. This manager needs a reality check of the danger of leaving someone that intoxicated at the bar to his staff and to other patrons, it was very uncomfortable. I offered my help to remove the man which she politely declined. I felt very bad for her that she was stuck having to do everything on her own. read more

We were from out of town attending a wedding. We met in the large room downstairs for a family luncheon. Honestly, I couldn't have picked a better location! The food was amazing- we had salad (make-your-own Cesar), bread (focaccia), potatoes (small/ halved, and similar to twice baked) salmon, chicken, and our choice of chocolate cake or cheesecake. Really had high hopes for this place but it didn't meet the mark. Service was the worst. The greeter at the door was completely disengaged - very preoccupied with important posts on their phone's social media. Wait staff was just awful... actively chastised our party for needing to take a minute to look at the menu. Got the drink orders incorrect three times, and when asked to correct it the third time became belligerent with one the folks in our party. The food was average. Honestly we stopped in on a Friday night because it didn't look as busy as the other places downtown. It was evident as to why - they need to pick up their game to compete and stay open in this marketplace. Won't be coming back. Too many better options. read more

This is really a 3.5. I couldn't go as far as a 4, though. Service was great--I ate at the bar. Beer was great--I had a draft chocolate stout. Sandwich, a chicken sandwich no less--which I never order out--was recommended by the bartender/waitress/does everything, and it was very good. Toasted bun would have made it less soggy. French onion soup was good, but bread was too soggy and was missing something. Onion rings were beer battered and home made, not frozen. If I am in Ogden again, I would come here. You should too. This place is very underrated. They deliver solid food and service. Our company brought in their food from the catering side a few times and I was very impressed. So, I decided to dine at the bar alone. I had the chicken enchiladas. Not a mexican place but they delivered an excellent dish hot, fast and on point. Service was great. The bar was a little understaffed but she handled it beautifully, let me know it might take a minute and still took care of me. She very eloquently under promised and over delivered. read more

Pretty dang traditional food, burgers as big as your face, perfectly toasted bread for sandwiches and their fries are somthing I would sell my first born for. Thumbs down to the service at the front desk. It took a solid 10 minutes of starting and the desk before a server ran over and seated us. Shout out to whoever that was at 1230ish yesterday! And I know someone should have been at the desk, there was a phone I will throw into that evidence. Also a downside to the lack of vegetarian options. We shared an entrée - Italian Sausage over pasta - with each of us having a side salad. We are from out of state/town - and didn't want leftovers. The pasta was really good and we went away quite full. We didn't have room for dessert - but some diners at another table ordered some - and one of the desserts was enormous and looked so delicious. We were there after the museum was closed so only went to the restaurant. The old trains outside was an added attraction. Our waitress was very nice and the service was great! read more

We'll they didn't get all of the order in my box and when I returned they called us and drove to my place and delivered the meal within just a few minutes. Awesome service!! read more

So Impressed!! We had the chicken bacon mac n cheese, & the rio grande with fries. They were both so so good! We had Whitney as our server and she was amazing, and very attentive. We also ordered their cheesecake which was also very delicious. We will definitely be coming here more often! highly recommend. read more

Tried their Legendary Salmon Salad and Turkey sandwich, both were really good. Really liked the turkey sandwich more because the bread was perfectly toasted and the inside had some sort of mayonnaise that made it soft just right on the inside. So you get a nice crunch without compromising the sandwich. Should have gotten some white wine to go along with it but I forgot it in my car, they have a 104 bottle bar so they have a lot of drinks to chose from if you'd like a drink to go with your food. read more

Onions were bitter and the bread/ croutons had turned into a paste. Tasted like raw dough. Had a marghareta pizza too. Again, dough was barely cooked in the middle. Outer crust was good. Definitely want to come back! Came in a party of two on a weekday around 6:15, lots of space in parking lot and at tables. We were seated almost immediately. Our server was excellent! Refilled our waters before we needed it and gave great recommendations. We had the salmon and ribs with side salads- I loved the house dressing! Salmon was very moist on the inside. Ribs were okay- but I lived in Georgia and am hard to please when it comes to BBQ. The beans it come with tasted just like chili, it was okay. I did really enjoy the mashed potatoes! Very buttery. We finished off with the fresh peach tart on special. It was enjoyable but not quite a tart. But ya gotta love fresh Utah peaches! Ended up leaving around 7:45, so service wasn't super quick but we didn't mind. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and the decoration, and there were plenty of menu options I want to try! Had a party of 8 last night and had a variety of meals most was o k. But burgers are not there strong point. I limit my self to one a month so was really looking forward to a good one. Service was slow and when I got my burger it was cold. Not even warm. Waiter said "let me get you another one". A new one came out in 2 minutes obviously just popped in the microwave as it was the same patty that I had taken a bite of. They only serve them well done which should have been my first warning. This one was EXTRA WELL DONE. dry and no flavor. Not a lot of fries on the plate. And only restaurant in Utah where I've never gotten Fry Sauce. I ordered a Caesar salad Togo and they forgot my dressing, I get it people make mistakes. So I called and talked to the manager "Dave" I believe his name was and he said, "oh snap sorry about that" asked if I wanted to come back and get the dressing, but I wasn't able to so I asked what else he could do for me. His reply was "apologize?" I chuckled because I thought he was joking. I asked him to refund my salad and he said he could give me a partial refund, again I chuckled because I thought he was joking. Now located on the corner of Grant and 24th Union Grill has standard tasty eats for an average price. Had the Rio Grande sandwich (Turkey Breast, Bacon, Avocado) and it paired well with the Cream of Spinach soup. Also tried the Phillysteak sandwich which ,unfortunately, was lacking in flavor and beef was a little tough. The dining area is huge and has a pleasant ambience perfect for brunch with friends. Union Grill offers a consistent 4-star experience. I am always in the lunch crowd here and, for some reason, never make it to dinner. A few things to try: The French Onion Soup. Some of the best around and Top Notch in the 844 area codes. You will find yourself picking cheese off the side of the bowl because you love it so much. The Pasta Salads. Wide variety and very tasty. The only thing that could make them better is if the pasta were made of bacon. Use this as your side dish. The lettuce side-salads are a "meh" and make you want to poach off your neighbor's plate. The Focaccia bread. It comes free with your meal but you have to ask for it. You will impress your partner and friends by ordering like a regular. For those who cannot pronounce it, just say "tasty bread" and they will know what you mean. The specials. They have different ones daily and they usually rule. Cajun prime rib is probably my favorite and paired with the FO soup and a pasta salad, I feel sinful. When you come here, give yourself some extra time. You will want to walk around the Union Station and meet some cool people that know a LOT about the museums and history housed here. The setting is fantastic and you could spend hours going through the place. Local Tip: Parking stinks in the lot in front of Union Grill. Small lot that is usually full. Go to the north parking lot in front of Union Station and walk through. You will be glad that you did for a.) parking reasons and b.) a preview of the coolness that IS Union Station. read more

I would not go out of my way to come here, b/c there can be a bit of a wait, but if I had to, I'd order a few specific things. They started us off with the homemade focaccia bread. Sounds delicious in theory. The first basket was all right, but it was cold. That was kind of unappealing. Second basket was so heavily garlic-salted that although we appreciated the additional "flavor"...it was way too much. I had the beer sampler trio for $2. Delicious little beers from Rooster's! I wanted to try the "heavenly cream ale" but they were out. :( Instead, I went with the two-bit amber, which was my least fav of the three. I did enjoy the honey wheat the best and the diamondback ale second. For entrees, I ordered the italian sausage with creamy tomato sauce over linguine and my bf had the pecan chicken. We both got soups with our entrees...mine was the eggplant and my bf had the french onion for a little more $. The french onion was definitely the winner of the two. I actually really liked it a lot. The gooey provolone (I think?) was delicious. Great broth, too. My soup, however, tasted like a bowl of marinara sauce. I could not detect the eggplant. I was sorely disappointed, to say the least. For the entrees...my chunky sausage pasta dish came with snow peas mixed in. Whaaaat? I gave it a chance, but it was just too weird tasting. I think they should have added green bell peppers if they were wanting to throw in a veggie. The sauce was ok, a little less creamy than I was hoping. They served it with some more cold focaccia. The pecan chicken was more of a winner. The crust was kind of dark, but it was good. A very generous serving too, I might add. Our service was decent. The atmosphere here was nice and unique. We saw a train drive by, which added to the whole "train station" feel. The menu was very random, which kind of gave me the idea that it's a bit of a touristy place with more of an emphasis on the atmosphere than the food. In the defense of this restaurant, I have only ever been in an office function. Therefore, lots of people and so the service time is slower. For that reason, I'm focusing on the food. I had the burger. Unfortunately, I'm a burger snob and this burger was a solid 4/10. Next year, I stuck with the fried calamari just to play it safe. It was good. Hard to mess that up. I was wrong. My friend ordered the nachos. They looked really good. Someone else recommended the French onion. Another friend got the Cobb salad and it looked great. Don't order the burger. Good food I don't think I'd go back not very many dinner options. It does however have lots of salads and pasta choices. Made reservations to try Union Grill as part of Ogden Restaurant Week. Since the 3 course menu was $17/pp we should have set our expectations accordingly. It also turned out to be prom night. Our 7pm reservation was great but the restaurant was full! Service was good to start drinks and orders were taken quickly. I had the buffalo cauliflower while hubby tried the French Onion soup. Both were good and sized appropriately. Hubby also loved the Old Fashioned from the bar. My Cab was decent for the $6/per glass price. Entrees took a while to be delivered. Hubby's ribs were good but my Pasta with shrimp arrived cold. The plate was hot but shrimp was cool and pasta was icy cold. Waitress returned it to the kitchen saying she would have them remake it. Hubby dug in. The pasta returned in less than 5 minutes. Clearly the plate had been microwaved and additional parm added to the top. It tasted fine, was finally hot but had zero actual flavor other than shrimp/pasta. Lacked seasoning. My meal came with dessert as part of the restaurant week pre-fix. I had the lemon cake and it was the best item of the night. Very sweet - would have been better with coffee but none was offered. I did ask for more wine but waitress was clearly running by the end of our meal so didn't up-sell or check on us often. Overall - this was fine. Order the burger or pizza and you are probably pleased with the pub grub. Hoping for a restaurant week experience will leave you disappointed. Bill came in at $70 for 3 drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 main dishes, and 1 dessert so good value for mediocre food. If we go back it will be for bar food and lower expectations. read more

We took the ankle biters on a Frontrunner ride and ended our trip with a visit to the historic Union Station. We quite literally stumbled across this place while looking for a restroom. We saw the specials and decided to give them a try. I agree with other reviewers that emphasize how much the employees obviously despise anyone with children, even though the three at our table were well behaved until pushed to the limit because of the long wait. Slow, slow, slow service. Our server had something against us from the start, he was short-tempered and downright rude. Did I just see his eyes roll? Yes, yes I did. The atmosphere is dark and dreary, not a place I would want to hang out often. The one saving grace was what I ordered: the caprese sandwich on foccacia. Nice thick slices of mozzarella, basil pesto, tomato and a very thick and flavorful balsamic drizzle. The fries were tasty, too. Hubby really enjoyed his French onion soup. A first glance I had a few doubts about the Union Grill. Not because of the restaurant itself, it's actually quite nice inside. I guess it was just some of the other reviews. But we've been there a few times and fully plan to go back. Service was good. We were seated immediately and brought drinks soon after. Last trip out I tried the Chicken Bacon Mac & Cheese ( say that 5 times fast). If you've looked at some of my other reviews, you may have noted that I usually get the Mac & Cheese if it's an option, even if it's just a side. In this case it was the main course, and a healthy (not the cardio type of healthy) main course it is. A large plate with a substantial amount of grilled chicken on top of a pile a delicious mac & cheese. The sauce and consistency made this one of the best plates I've had in a while. Be sure to give it a try, it's worth it. read more
