The famous Maddox in Utah! I've been here throughout my childhood and we came back while visiting family. It's such a classic place that has such good food. We got the root beer and cream soda to drink. They don't deserve alcohol The rolls are homemade and the raspberry butter is incredible. I almost asked to get some to-go LOL I got the halibut after many people recommended it. I loved it! My husband got the New York steak and felt underwhelmed by it because the signs behind the business say "world's best beef" so he's thinking it will live up to that. He's tasted some really of steak in California and was expecting this place would have better but they didn't. The house salad with ranch was delicious as well. This place always has a homey feel with all the interior wood. They decorate based on the holidays too. I wish I would have snagged the treats in the way out because those looked tasty! read more

First visit and what an awesome find! If you want some incredible comfort food, this is your place. I ordered the "Taste of Maddox". They start you off with a basket of corn bread and rolls served with regular butter and raspberry butter (dessert itself!). Then soup or salad. Next the entree, which mine came with a Turkey Steak (good), Chicken Fried Steak (not so good), and a fried chicken breast (great). Sides were a super fresh tasting ear of corn and mashed potatoes & gravy. Service was friendly and fast. *I ordered a slice of Chocolate Cream Pie to-go - fresh, homemade, and unbelievably superb! Amazing! What can I say about the 77 year old establishment! The bison ribeye was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The entire meal was so incredibly affordable. The cream soda??!! Delicious! The salad ?!! Fresh!! The food was fantastic and the service great. I had the Chicken Fried steak and it was excellent. The portion was perfect. My wife had the filet mignon. It was so tender and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. The rolls that were served immediately after we were seated were soft and delicious. They were served with a raspberry honey butter and this stuff is addictive. So delicious. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and atmosphere. We would highly recommend dining here. I came here with a large group back in November, and it was just as good as I remember! Making a reservation ahead of time allowed us to forego the long waiting period, which was nice, and they didn't seem fazed by our kids. Once again, the rolls with the raspberry butter are the star of the show. And even though the shrimp steak kinda sounds weird, it really is delicious! The kid meals came in Maddox frisbees, which my daughter loved. I will be back--just wish I could come more often! read more

Had a very bad experience at Maddox Ranch House today. Admin. staff even set the waiter staff up for failure. Maddox Waiter had us wait for 10 minutes for the afternoon Prime Rib Special @3pm to start , then after the wait, proceeded to tell us that the prime rib is no longer on the special. That they changed their menu. Shows on Maddox web site and we stuck around Brigham City for an hour just for it. :( So we ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and don't think we received the CFS :( Just a hamburger patty fried with mashed potatoes and gravy. Corn was a few days old. (Prime corn on the cob season) Waiter had nothing to say when we brought up the problems. Awful customer service! read more

Server at this large, local, rustic restaurant was kind and described the different cuts of beef for us as this was our first visit to this local steakhouse. Husband and I shared the porterhouse steak, mashed potatoes, and roasted veggies. Husband had the clam chowder (not pictured). Steaks are amazing and the turkey steak is very unique if you don't feel like red meat. I have been eating them for years. Grew up eating here going to dinner family tradition. Rolls are unbelievable and although there have been several changes over the years still my favorite restaurant to go to and it's not priced out of this world like Ruth Chris where you pay $11.50 for a baked potato and that pricing is about five years old. Incredible!!! The rolls they start you off with are insane - I could eat those with their raspberry honey butter all day. Serving sizes are also incredibly generous. I got a veggie cheddar soup to start and it was delicious. But my favorite had to be the shrimp turkey steak I ordered! Sounds a little crazy but if you love an umami seafood taste (kinda like crab cakes) you're gonna love this. Wish they had this back home. Service was off the charts so friendly and accomodating to our huge party but still remained quick and efficient. It was so fun seeing all the families dining in during lunchtime. Why 4 stars? Because I suppose you could do much worse for the price. --- --- --- I was told by my friend who lives in the area that Maddox is allegedly one of the best steakhouses in Utah. I wasn't even hungry after we'd eaten a ton throughout the day, but when I saw that the number one highlight was prime rib, I was physically and mentally committed. Was it an amazing prime rib? It was not. Was it bad? It was not. But what it was, was very fairly priced. My bill was in the low 30's, which is unheard of at most steakhouses. But I would compare the vibe here to be more like a Longhorn or a Texas Roadhouse than a fancy, date-night type of venue. There were a lot of little touches that we just a bit different than I anticipated: the salad tasted like it had been pre-prepped hours ago and was just sitting in a fridge under saran wrap. The veggies that came with my steak were even worse. They looked and tasted like they went from a can, to a microwave, to my plate. The loaded baked potato had the bare minimum amount of effort poured into it. And the steak knife was only slightly stronger than a plastic knife. And while it wasn't my food, my friend asked for his steak to be cooked medium rare, but it was definitely medium well. But, my prime rib, especially smothered in the horse radish sauce, was definitely not bad. And the rolls/cornbread with the butter is something I could have eaten all night, despite not having a huge appetite when I arrived. A somewhat well known steakhouse, but instead of going there for dates and business dinners, it's for families who aren't trying to break the bank. Neat concept. read more

When anyone learns I'm new in town, the first thing they say is, "Have you gone to Maddox?" After many repeat recommendations I went and was underwhelmed. I thought maybe it was just a bad day and went back for a second chance. Same feelings, underwhelmed. Then a family member suggested we all go again... the third time... same. Had a terrific outing here on a road trip. I got the 75th anniversary special, which comes with the famous fried chicken, soup, and pie. The two pies were exceptional. The coconut and chocolate, the chocolate was the best. The famous fried chicken is OK. I love the mashed potatoes. I didn't think it was that famous. The soup was really tasty and a great way to start the meal. It cost $18 on the menu, my total came out to about $29. Baylee was our server. She really took care of us and accommodated every need. The ribeye was really good! The chicken fried steak wasn't our favorite. It wasn't as crispy or breaded as we're used to, so it wasn't quite what we were expecting. We probably wouldn't order it again. Overall, we'd definitely come back especially for that ribeye. Maddox is a small town steak house that is well known across the state. It's a giant restaurant that seems to always have a wait. Make a reservation. Everything is tasty. Even the "seafood salad." Maddox has the lovely feeling of "family tradition." The drive there--especially in the summer or fall--is part of the charm. You pass through Utah's fruit country and can stop at local stands to buy fresh cherries, peaches, or corn from the farmers themselves. The team is always great to you and service is quick and on point. The food is fine--it's not a place I go for culinary fireworks--but it's consistent, and there's something nostalgic about it. The turkey steak is surprisingly good and unlike anything I've had elsewhere. My grandpa has ordered the Rainbow Trout for decades and still swears by it. It's more about the experience than the menu. The setting, the staff, the history--it all adds up to something special. I recommend putting this on your list to try and maybe even make a tradition out of. read more
