The service was nice. I did order the daily special which is from 10:30 am to 3:00pm. I ordered it at 2:50 I didn't think I'd be allowed to order it but was. When I got there to pay he told me the price was $11.98. I was confused but with the way things are going up in cost I didn't think much of it. I took a minute to pay so he had to manually put the charge on the little card reader but this time it was $12.26. I was even more confused because that wasn't the price he told me originally. I didn't argued because Im pregnant and I'd took so long to decide what to order I just want the wanted the food.The restaurant looks clean. The food ehhhh. I do like that they put the sauce on the side so the chicken didn't get soggy. The chicken was dry and not flavorful. The pineapples were with the chicken maybe that's where I was supposed to get the sweet from because the sauce was bland also. The rice tasted like regular rice and the wonton was nasty. A friend and I walked in to an empty restaurant. Wasn't sure if that was a good or bad sign. Liked that we didn't have to wait long but realized why it was empty when the food came out. I have been going to Uncle Tong's for 20 years now, ever since our office was located nearby. It has always been great inexpensive Chinese restaurant that has a decent decor, quick service, decent prices and a nicer selection. The food is less Americanized than many other Chinese restaurants and for me that is a plus. It certainly has no Mexican influence and that is also a plus. A very popular special on Thursdays is their Singapore Laksa and under the previous management they used to also have Singapore Curry Chicken. Both are delicious although the Singapore Curry Chicken is no longer offered. We had the Laksa today for the first time in years and it was great. Four stars from me for food value for money and great taste. read more

Absolute garbage. Ordered online the daily special of chicken chow mein, wonton soup and an egg roll. After getting back to work I open the container to not find chicken chow mein. It was bland pieces of chicken and bean sprouts. The wontons were mushy and the egg roll was under cooked and doughy. The location is horrible and I was not getting back out in traffic. My food was gross, stale, and not exactly what I ordered. The tofu had an acrid moldy old taste to it. I ordered fried rice received white rice that was not only cold, and hard, but appeared to not be fresh/days old. I called several times to let management know of my experience, but each time I called the line rang busy. One of the few surrounding places that stays open! Everything else closes around one or two so I wandered in here for lunch. Just settled on some vegetable fried rice to go but it was amazing! Restaurant didn't seem massive but had a nice homey vibe. Place was clean and the women that greeted me extremely pleasant and accommodating. Had no problem with the flavor or spice of my food. My rating shows average, but Thursday lunch bumps up to 4.5 stars. Greenspoint does not have many great eating places. And while this is not a 'great' place, it has some good points. The strip-mall restaurant mainly serves the lunch crowd of the Hines row of office towers. Luckily, it's not a buffet. There are lunch specials of the usual Chinese dishes, but on Thursdays, there are two specials not usually found at Chinese restaurants: Laksa (a spicy noodle soup) and Singapore (curry) Chicken. These take more advanced preparation, and therefore are not daily dishes. The previous owner passed the recipe and method to the new owner. Although both specials are not as good as the prior owner, they are still worthy of your attention. The place is packed on Thursday lunch hour, so I recommend you go before noon. Service is excellent. Atmosphere is typical Chinese restaurant. read more

On Thursdays, they have a Singapore Curry Chicken special. I went for the special and it was ok. Nothing to rave about but nothing to send back. I work in the building right next to the restaurant so the place was near capacity during the lunch hour. However, the service was very fast and we were in and out. The decor is pretty dated with floral wallpaper but it was quite fitting for the style of restaurant. I would like to come back and probably will try the traditional plates as I heard they are pretty tasty. If the typical Chinese (American style) dishes are good I would give them a bump to 3 stars, just can't justify 3 right now. read more

I've been to Uncle Tong's twice, and I have to say that they're definitely pretty good Americanized Chinese food. If you're working in the energy corridor, this is pretty good place to grab lunch because you can be in and out in under an hour. Their egg drop soup is definitely the sketchy soup that I've been in search of since I've moved to Houston. Food: 4 stars. What's causing this place to lose a star? The fact that my coworker found dirt in his cup. Twice. The first time he sent it back with the hopes that the next cup of water would be clean. But again, dirt was stuck to the side of the cup, and he just gave up on drinking anything from the restaurant. Garlic chicken was pretty good. I expected it to be spicier since the food had a little spicy symbol next to it. I've also gotten beef with broccoli here. The staff/restaurant seems to be friendly to vegetarians, as they're very informed about the food and can adapt it easily. Prices are $7.50 for a lunch plate that contains the meal, rice, soup, and an eggroll/crab rangoon. Not too bad, I suppose, especially when you're catering to all the oil and gas influx of money that's around. I doubt that I'll ever be around this area again soon, so my two experiences are going to have to be the end of my review. Maybe some day I'll be back, but I'm more of the take-your-lunch kind of girl, so I doubt that time will come when I'm working much further south. read more

Love this place especially in the evenings because it is never too crowded. All of the dishes are very tasty, and the Singapore chicken on Thursdays is awesome! Mr. Wong is a very interesting fellow to talk to if you get a chance. This guy studied Karate with Jackie Chan in Hong Kong for 10 years before they moved to the US. I've had better beef & broccoli, orange chicken, general tso's, egg rolls and soups from the influx of chinese eatery competitors in the city, and i've also had worse. Service afforded them a 2nd star but lack of great taste, creativity and atmosphere limited my experience. Should you work in the area and you have a taste for chinese on your lunch break then Uncle Tong's will suffice. But if you take someone on a date here hopefully you're breaking it off b/c otherwise it may be your last date--not romantic at all. Just can't see myself eating here for anything other than lunch on the company's dime, not mine. Bathroom wasn't clean which makes me think too much about the kitchen. I found this place around Jan 2020 and loved it.. I coordinate construction projects in the area, and it was a quick and easy place to get lunch... Up to Jan. 2021, the quality was consistent, taste was great, and presentation in to-go containers was clean.. Then, after the freeze/winter storm in Feb 2021, they shut down for a week or so. .. I didn't think much of it, but when they finally reopened, something changed with the chicken quality.. Now, I can't say if this goes for the fried chicken options (gen. tso's, sesame, orange, etc.), but stirfry chicken like the garlic chicken I always get, seems off. The texture of the chicken seems a little inconsistent and maybe borderline "rubbery".. It's by no means is chewy, it just doesn't feel like a normal cut of chicken.. On top of that the flavor has become a little more bland. Also, there was a nice ratio of chicken to clean looking vegetables in a black w/ clear top container - Now it's in a white styrofoam container and it seems to be more of a sloppy mess of chicken hidden in sprouts/cabbage or whatever vegetable fillers that are used in the stir fry. Similar to a Chinese restaurant called Nee Hao off of the BW near 59 (alot of food there, but not high quality)... I've asked if they started buying chicken from a different supplier, or prepping it differently, and they of course denied this. I'm picky with chinese food and something has changed.. I've tried to convey this to them, but I don't think they understood what I was saying.. Anyway, I enjoyed them so much before, that I gave them 3 chances to see if it was a fluke.. Each time, it's the same thing - weird textured chicken, blander flavor, and .. Very nice people and I hope they don't lose business, just thought I'd share.. Pretty good. I got the shrimp and chicken with cashews and it was pretty darn good. It came with an egg roll and I chose wonton soup. Egg roll was alright. Clean not sitting under a heat lamp forever. Soup was awesome. Great flavor in wonton soup. I was pleasantly surprised. Large full wonton. The meal itself had a good flavor. But only like 3 shrimp and only vegetables were celery and carrots. tasted great I wish it had broccoli or baby corn and a fee more shrimp. I ordered out and it only too about 6-7 minutes and $8. I work in the area so I swing by mostly for late lunches and to get some down time during my work day and I have always had great experiences here. I tried the #12 Hunan Beef lunch special and it was delicious. Not spicy as the menu suggests but good food nonetheless. Alot of big green bell peppers and big chunks of white onions - too much for my taste - but easy to pluck off the plate. read more

I went back, as predicted by proximity, and am bumping the Uncle up a star. I'm glad to report that everything today was served piping hot and the paisley carpet still matches the wallpaper. I got the generic white people staple of General Tso's chicken and it was crispy and delicious. Maybe someday a cold front will hit Houston on a Thursday and I can try the laksa Larry recommended. We frequent Uncle Tong's at least once a week for a quick work lunch. Once you find what you like, it's easy to get attached to it pretty fast. The service from the regular waitresses ranges from excellent to good. We have gotten to know the manager fairly well, she is always very nice and knows us by name. I liked this place a lot. Arrived around 12:15 during the lunch rush and were seated right away. Within less than 10 minutes we had our soup and lunch. The food was fresh and the chicken was all white meat. Everything for $8.
