Back home, we placed them immediately in the fridge, and after a day, they were still absolutely delicious. The tarts were my favorite, with perfect texture for both the filling and the crust. The cheesecakes were perfectly spongy with a nice bounce. Flavor wise, the original was good, but the strawberry was absolutely phenomenal with flavor balance with sweetness. Walking into this shop you notice right away it's on the smaller side, and there are only a few staff but they are so friendly and kind. We were surprised to see Uncle Tetsu make it's way to Texas! We went often while living in Arcadia, CA and loved seeing that it was here. We got their original flavor on this visit, but can attest the Oreo and strawberry are also great! It's a light, fluffy texture that isn't too sweet and the perfect dessert after eating a large meal. Seems like Austin is getting all the good chains lately. Uncle Tetsu is super hype for their ethereal cheesecake that is fluffy and puffy and like eating a cloud. I like it because it is so light to eat and not very sweet either, which makes me think it's healthier (and can eat more of it as a result). Personally though, I prefer NY cheesecake better because I like the dense decadence with just a little bit of lemon. Rarer of a treat, but hits the spot when it does. Their cheesecake is incomparable to the ones anywhere else. It is so moist and soft that it feels like you're biting into a cloud and the cheesecake melts into your mouth. I tried to cut the cheesecake into small pieces, but it didn't turn out well, because of how soft the cake was! I was able to try the pandan+coconut and the strawberry cheesecake. When I went, they were handing out samples of the cheesecake, which I appreciated! The pandan and coconut cheesecake has a very strong flavor. I taste it more than the cheesecake itself, so for those who don't like those flavors, I wouldn't recommend it. The strawberry cheesecake was amazing. It was more of a cheesecake flavor with a hint of strawberry and it wasn't too sweet. If I could, I would finish the whole cheesecake in one sitting without getting tired of it. We definitely took the opportunity to try them - they were bouncy, delicious, not overly sweet and just right. My partner in crime and our daughter bought the ube flavor cheesecake and a plain basque to take home. In addition, they had biscotti of which we also bought in ube flavor as well. Austin finally has its own Uncle Testu shop for those looking to try a new place with Japanese style cheesecake. I'm originally from CA where Uncle Testu has a couple of locations that I had been wanting to try but never got a chance. So, very glad I was able to here in Austin. The shop itself is relatively small with no indoor or outdoor seating. It's strictly a to go place, but with their speedy service, it'll take you longer to find parking than it will to purchase a cheesecake. The staff member there at opening (roughly 11 am) was friendly and accommodating to the handful of us already there. They currently offer 7 regular cheeses flavors: original, coffee, chocolate, strawberry, Oreo, ube, and pandan. These also have two basque flavors and other treats they offer you when you're making your purchase. They also have a sample stand on the counter where you order. It may have been because I arrived right when they opened, but at the time they only had strawberry flavor cheesecake samples to try. I was a bit disappointed tasting the sample as it wasn't as airy, moist, or even flavorful as I originally hoped. It made it easy to decide against ordering the strawberry flavor and try my luck with another. Being a huge coffee fanatic, and figuring the flavor would be stronger, I went ahead and got the coffee flavor cheesecake. I had to save the cheesecake for dinner with a friend later (roughly 9 hours later), and to my surprise, it was everything I was originally expecting! Airy, soft, moist, and packed with a distinguishable taste of coffee. It's also not overly sweet for those who have a preference for less sugary dessert. I got their classic Cheesecake. I wish I bought more of the other flavors. I recall they had original, Ube and matcha at the time when I went in. I didn't know by looking at their website, they have a lot more like strawberry, cookies n cream, chocolate and basque cheesecakes of original and Oreos. At the time it was pretty slow. There were two people in line before me and the people there worked really fast. In about a minute I already got my original and left. There wasn't enough time to browse or take pics cause all of a sudden more people came right in before me. They have original and coffee flavored as well. The strawberry taste was present but very subtle so I'm not too sure I would be able to tell the difference between the original or the coffee. It's about $13 for an entire cheesecake. I would say that is plenty for a couple with leftovers. They also have basque cheesecake at $24. That's starting to approach Cheesecake Factory prices.
