Uncle Tetsu is known for its yummy cheesecake. However, if you are not used to Asian pastries, it can be an acquired taste, and it is definitely not the typical cheesecake one might picture. This cheesecake is more like a light and fluffy poundcake, and it's not very sweet. I think people either love it or hate it, and I'm one of the former. If you want something, a little bit sweeter, however, I would recommend the cheese tart, which is really good. It comes in different flavors. I personally like the ube one, but there are several flavors to choose from like mango. Uncle Tetsu locations are typically in malls, but there are not very many. Every time I make a stop by this mall, I have to make sure to pay Uncle Tetsu a visit. I'm in love with this Japanese cheesecake. I get to have a cheesecake flavored dessert and the texture is like no other. It's fluffy, giggly, rich, yet light, all at once. They also have tarts and my favorites are the ube and matcha one. If anything, these tarts are more like a traditional cheesecake (not fluffy) and are individual sized. Do take note that this is now a cashless establishment. The staff are always helpful and nice. I came to this location forever ago to pick up a boba kit (for a Yelp pick up event) back in the post-covid era days. Yes, G, the one you and I never got around to making... like ever?! They're light, spongy, and not too sweet - with a soufflé style texture and not as heavy as traditional cheesecakes. We were in the mall having dinner and decided to grab a Tetsu cheesecake for dessert. They have an intriguing seasonal Cherry Blossom flavor and the staff was kind enough to give us a little sample. It has a light rose flavor and is interesting but I was expecting cherry so it threw me off a bit haha. It's very pretty with flowers embedded in the top but I just wasn't feeling it so we went with one of our usual faves and got an Ube cheesecake. As mentioned, I love the texture - and it's a lovely mild dessert but the Ube flavor is too light imo. It would be excellent if it was stronger. Still a decent dessert option. Staff are friendly enough and efficient. We visited around 6pm on a Friday night and service was very fast - we were in and out once we decided on a flavor. An absolute gem in the Arcadia mall for desserts. I came here today because it is my birthday. I wanted a cake but not expensive. Also a cake that isn't high in added sugar and high fructose corn syrup like other places. The cake was small and spongey similar to funnel cake. However, the texture and fluff is condensed and is very soft. The flavor I got was the cheesecake original. It contains eggs and a variety of other ingredients such as Japanese flour and milk. The cake itself is obviously not healthy, but compared to cheesecake factory and 85 degrees, this place is tastier. I don't live close to this mall and surprisingly the mall is very much alive. A ton of people came today on December 14th. Alot of asians young and elderly. Then again this mall is enormous and if I were to compare it to my own, this mall blows it out of the water. The environment is bizarre. The place is located in a corner where there is only one entrance and exit specifically leading to the place. It is hidden behind two restaurants which I will also be doing a review on called "noodle street" and "Din Tai Fung". The service as it was years ago was better. The woman at the front had a grumpy and unappealing face. If she smiled, it would have been unappealing regardless, but she was annoyed when I took a sample of their chocolate flavored cake. Because the toothpick came out of the hole of one of the slices. We also ordered two ube and matcha flavored tarts of which both being excellent. The flavor and texture was sweet and delicious. They ran for $4 each. The cake I ordered was about 14$. I recommend coming here as this is my all time favorite cake given the price. I tried 85 degrees, portos bakery, summery bakery and assal pastry and yet none of them taste as succulent as uncle tetsu. I will be back again in the future. There was no line, which is great considering how insane the line was a few years ago. We were able to sample their seasonal flavor s'mores. Staff was friendly and helpful. This bakery is across from Din Tai Fung on the side of the restaurant towards the back. They bake the Japanese cheesecake on a daily basis so it's always fresh. The girl that took our order said it would take 20 minutes to make the Pandan Coconut because they ran out. The traditional cheesecake was ready but we decided to pick them up at the same time. She was friendly and helpful. The ambiance was well lit and clean. The Pandan Coconut was amazingly delicious. It's sprinkled with coconut shred on top and none on the inside which was perfect. There are various flavors from original, to strawberry, oreo, and matcha. Although I've tried the oreo and strawberry, I still enjoy the original the best for the classic taste that's not overpowered by the other flavors. They also give you membership cards so you get your 10th cake free (they stamp on your card to keep track how many you've purchased). I wasn't dressed up--just a plain white tee, shorts, no makeup, and a Mickey Mouse backpack (yes, the mom look). As a VIC customer for brands like Chanel, Harry Winston, and Hermès, I'm used to interacting with people who understand the importance of respect and discretion, regardless of how a customer is dressed. Sadly, one staff member here failed that basic standard today. I picked up a free sample to let my son try, and immediately noticed a subtle but very visible shift in her attitude--cold, dismissive, and visibly irritated. I decided to purchase a slice of the cake, but as she walked out to serve me, she muttered something under her breath to her coworker that clearly suggested I was being a nuisance. I gave her a long look. She seemed startled. I said, "If you don't want to sell, I won't buy." She instantly panicked and started apologizing. But by then, the atmosphere had already been ruined. I stood off to the side, quietly took two photos. She saw me and didn't dare look back. It's not about the cake. It's about the energy. If you can't recognize when someone walks in with quiet grace, don't assume silence equals insignificance. This brand's reputation is too valuable to be handled by staff who lack judgment. I sincerely hope this was an isolated case--but I won't be returning to this location, and I suggest management revisit how they train their front-line team in handling diverse customers--especially moms.
