Haven't eaten Uncle Tetsu's in years! The original cheesecake is still as good as ever! Bummed that the price just keeps going up-- now at $15 each. It was very soft and fluffy though.
The service here always mid. The cheesecakes always mid as well. I usually don't like to make comparison, but since it is the same brand, it should be ok. Previously, I purchased from uncle Tetsu in Rosemead. The one that shares the same plaza as Walmart. The service there was amazing. Very friendly guy staff. Also, offered samples to all customers. The quality of the cheesecake was also so much better. I once ordered the Pandan from this location. It was somewhat nasty so I never got it again. When I went to the Rosemead location, they offered samples of the Pandan. It was so good that I ended up getting one. The employees in this location seem unhappy all the time. No smiles. They be staring at you like something is wrong with you..there were times when they left some samples, but we didn't even want it. Like their so unfriendly faces makes you wanna purchase and leave right away. Will just get the cheesecakes in Rosemead from now on.
The burnt basque cheesecake never disappoints! They also had it in Ube flavor. I wish they had samples but they didn't. Love this place and their products. Other women love it when they have packages of clothes they bought from stores. I'm built differently because I experience that joy when I carry a paper bag with an Uncle Tetsu cheesecake inside.
Pandan Coconut. Just get it. You'll thank me later. My only regret is that I didn't get two bc I had to arm wrestle my nephew for the last piece. Light and airy. Full of flavor. Before I delved my teeth into the first bite, the aromatic flavors filled up my senses that I began to drool. Need to make a trip back before I leave. So so good
Was at the mall wasting time and decided to buy a small individual item for my mom as an afternoon tea treat at home. Never tried the Basque cheesecake and the guy sold it to me that they had this limited flavor taro for a couple more weeks so I got a whole cake lol. It was worth it to surprise family and kids with something purple. Black Sesame is also worthwhile to try.
The Pandan coconut does not taste like pandan. The color is very vibrant unlike the display, it's concerning. But overall, I LOVE the original, definitely recommend it! Just not the Pandan Coconut.

It looks like a full moon when you open the box. Staff is very helpful if you have any questions. 5/5 Original It was soft and moist. We went with the original at the recommendation of the lady helping us out. Wifey wanted to try it and we are so glad we did. She really enjoy every bite. The kids devoured them rest at home. My son wanted more the next day (thanks Uncle Tetsu for creating a monster). We will be flying to Uncle Tetsu for our next full moon once the baby here. But you don't have to wait to have piece today. God bless
I love uncle tetsu! I picked a small order up from a pop up at the 2026 San Gabriel Latern Festival. at the San Gabriel Mission District. I love Uncle Tetsu's fluffy Japanese cheesecakes that are baked from scratch daily! The cheesecakes melt in your mouth, my partner and I love the texture of these! Would recommend and come back.
The cakes are always bomb, but at the same time, it's in a mall so the workers there don't really work that hard and the ambiance is pretty bad. If you want to eat the cake there, you'll need to go to another part of the mall and use regular mall seating.
This is located in the corner so you might miss it. I missed the hype when it first started because I'm not a Cali resident but after trying it, this was some of the best cheesecake I have had in my life. It is Japanese style so the cake is fluffy but still full of flavor. It isn't overly sweet and honestly feels like you're eating a cloud. I suggest getting the original if it's your first time. If you're alone, put it in the fridge and cut slices out. Otherwise, it could be a great potluck option. My bf and I finished the whole cake so... Note that if you decide to get a cheesecake, just know they do not sell by the slice. You have to get the entire cake.
Uncle Tetsu is the best! Their Japanese cheesecake is super light, fluffy and not too sweet! The original is my favorite. I can easily eat half the cheesecake by myself in one sitting.
Nothing can go wrong with Uncle Tetsu! From food to service, everything was great! They are not as busy when they first opened so service is much faster and the quality of cheesecake is still pretty much the same! I like to refrigerate my cheesecake because I like the texture when it's cold.

Fluffy Delicious Japanese cake and dessert. It is located inside Santa Anita Mall, just next to Den Tai Fung and Nordstrom in the second floor. Simon was our server. He was very nice and efficient. We were lucky because there was no line when we arrived. We ordered the following: - Original Cheesecake $13 -Ube Cheesecake $13 - Chocolate cheese tart $4.50 each -Matcha Cheese tart $4.50 each Everything was spectacular. The Ube cheesecake was well balanced between ube and the taste of cheese. If you are Ube lovers like myself, you should try this one.The original cheesecake was also perfect, fluffy and creamy. I don't usually write reviews, but today's experience was disappointing enough to speak up. I came to this location with my toddler. I wasn't dressed up--just a plain white tee, shorts, no makeup, and a Mickey Mouse backpack (yes, the mom look). As a VIC customer for brands like Chanel, Harry Winston, and Hermès, I'm used to interacting with people who understand the importance of respect and discretion, regardless of how a customer is dressed. Sadly, one staff member here failed that basic standard today. I picked up a free sample to let my son try, and immediately noticed a subtle but very visible shift in her attitude--cold, dismissive, and visibly irritated. I decided to purchase a slice of the cake, but as she walked out to serve me, she muttered something under her breath to her coworker that clearly suggested I was being a nuisance. I gave her a long look. She seemed startled. I said, "If you don't want to sell, I won't buy." She instantly panicked and started apologizing. But by then, the atmosphere had already been ruined. I stood off to the side, quietly took two photos. She saw me and didn't dare look back. It's not about the cake. It's about the energy. If you can't recognize when someone walks in with quiet grace, don't assume silence equals insignificance. This brand's reputation is too valuable to be handled by staff who lack judgment. I sincerely hope this was an isolated case--but I won't be returning to this location, and I suggest management revisit how they train their front-line team in handling diverse customers--especially moms. Finally got to try the popular amazing looking Japanese fluffy cheesecakes!! My friend was talking about Uncle Tetsu all day because we were nearby and as soon and she mentioned fluffy Japanese cheesecake I was all in! Service is not the best, the young lady who first helped me out gave me the wrong cake (ordered Oreo and got a regular) and after taking my order walked away from the counter even though my friend was waiting in line too. When I went back they gave me the right cake and told me to keep the other since they can't take it back, I was happy to have two. The cheesecakes themselves were AMAZING, im not a fan of cheesecake usually because it can be too much, but this one was Perfect. They are light, perfectly sweet, soft, fluffy perfection. The Oreo one was seriously heaven, I can have this it everyday, my friend and I each ate half right there and then lol Please do yourself a favor and try these Japanese cheesecakes! read more
Uncle Tetsu, first of all I'd like to say its in a great location in Arcadia, in the Santa Anita mall which is always usually great for parking. The service I get from the workers are always very kind and friendly which I do appreciate. My most recent visit i was helped by Celine. What great customer service she gave! The food here is great for desserts or a snack. The lines here can be on or off. Sometimes the lines and wait can feel very long while at other times there is no line and wait. The Japanese cheesecake is very light/airy with a nice light flavor. As we like to say "not too sweet" I'm also a big fan of their ube cheese tart which I suggest you give a try, has a lot more flavor than their cheesecakes. The biscotti here was a surprise to me with how good it was! I will for sure return here. read more

But today we decided to try the Basque cheesecake. It's got a creamy/custardy texture, great flavor, and just the right amount of sweetness. It's so satisfying to eat! I can't believe it took me this long to try Japanese cheesecake! I am officially obsessed. Each bite feels like I'm eating a pillowy soft marshmallow. Not overly sweet, which makes this dangerous because I can eat this entire cheesecake in one sitting. The texture reminds me of churro cheesecake filling. I didn't end up ordering anything but my friend did! They had samples of the black sesame flavor and wow, it was so good! I'd want to try their panda coconut flavor. Their cheesecakes are so light and airy but still gives the cheesecake flavor but more mild. $13 for a regular cheese cake and $23 for basque cheesecake! My friend ended up ordering the original flavor! Kudos to the friendly person working the register! As someone who isn't a fan of regular cheesecake, this is so much better! My friends surprised me with the Oreo one for my birthday. It was really tasty and light. The Oreo was mostly in the top half of the cheesecake, so it didn't over power the actual cake. It is a small place and depending on the times it can either be really busy or empty. read more

This is one of my favorite Japanese cheesecake place. Been coming here since they opened. They're conveniently located inside the Santa Anita mall near Nordstrom and Ding Tai Fung. It used to be only $10 a cheesecake, but it's now $13 due to inflation and such. Tried one of their new flavors, black sesame, today. It wasn't that good. Reminds me of their coffee flavor that also wasn't good. The original one is still the best flavor, hands down. Oh well, it was still worth trying. Also got their mini cheese tarts, original & ube, at $4.50 each which is also kinda pricey. Both were pretty good, the original one is slightly better than the ube one. I would totally get both of them again. Next time I want to try their basque cheesecakes. read more

One of my favorite dessert to get all year round. The cheesecake is light, soft, and fluffy. My go to is the original flavor You can't go wrong with it. I javelin tried the coffee and the strawberry and they are also delicious. The flavor are light, which is nice and you can taste the cheecake more. O feel the cheesecake is so pricey now, so I do not get it as often as before. This is also a great cake to get someone for the holidays. I love coming here for their cheesecakes! They offer different flavors of cakes. My favorite of all time would have to be the original cheesecake. It's so creamy and soft! It was my first time trying their cheese tarts recently. They are also super delish and a must try! The staff has always been helpful and kind whenever I stopped by. Recently I came by to pick up a couple cheesecakes and cheese tarts. They gave me an extra cheese tart to compensate for one that didn't look as nice, which honestly I wouldn't have noticed (Thank you to that staff member)! This spot is located in the Santa Anita mall. The area could get busy and noisy from the food stalls and DTF nearby. But it has never been an issue imo! read more

Unique Dessert, kids favorite. I kept seeing this Japanese style cheesecake everywhere and have to give it a try. They have many different flavors to try. You can only buy them by the cake. It's around $13-15. They do have mini size here too but i think you get the most bang for your buck with the bigger ones. Not sure if I've had this before but I might've and not realized what it was. My bf and I dropped by yesterday towards the afternoon and they only had Original left. They have a bunch of different flavors so I hope to try them next time! We ended up getting the original which was fine since we planned on trying it anyway. My bf has gotten these before and loves them. We took it home to enjoy and it is SO delicious! It's super soft, light, fluffy, like a soufflé pancake but still have that cheesecake flavor to it. It's hard to describe but if you've ever had a sponge cake or a Filipino Mamon, that's basically what it's like. I think it was just for the holidays where they sell out pretty quickly. The worker made sure to let us know beforehand that they only had original left and that it's not normal that they sell out that early. Looking forward to trying the other flavors next time! FOOD: Japanese cheesecake just melts in your mouth... - I've tried almost all the flavors at Uncle Tetsu, but the Original Cheesecake ($14) and Burnt Basque Cheesecakes ($24) are the absolute best. In my opinion, a lot of the other options lack flavor, so the original are always my preferences. - The Original Cheesecake is fluffy, airy, and not too sweet, making it great for all ages. However, if you prefer cakes with a heavier flavor, this might not be for you because it's extremely light. The texture resembles a sponge cake, not a traditional cheesecake. - If you want something closer to a traditional cheesecake, the Burnt Basque Cheesecakes are quite similar. They don't have a the graham cracker crust, but the texture of this cake is TO DIE FOR. It's so creamy and decadent, I think I like it even more than the Original Cheesecake... SERVICE/AMBIANCE: Although the interactions are brief with the staff here, I've never encountered bad service on any of my trips here. It's a little stall tucked next to Noodle St and Din Tai Fung, and the simple menu makes it easy to decide what to order. Plus, they do stamp cards here! OVERALL: The price increase has been steep over the years, but I still find myself coming back, especially for the Burnt Basque Cheesecakes. Definitely not as a frequent as before, but Uncle Tetsu's consistent quality never disappoints, and everyone I've introduced to this spot has always loved it as well! read more
The Japanese cheesecakes here are amazing! If you are used to Asian desserts, they aren't overly sweet so it was easy to eat several of the mini sizes here. This was a storefront in the mall and it had a short line to order. We decided to go with the original cheesecake, ube, and matcha flavors. My favorite was the original because you can't go wrong with it. The ube and matcha flavors weren't too strong though so even if you aren't a huge fan of those flavors, you could still try it. I love the crust. It's got a harder, solid texture like a cookie which makes it stay together better rather than completely crumbling. Definitely recommend! read more

At 6pm today 12/26/24, I went to buy cakes. The waitress at the front desk was a foreign girl named A. Her service attitude was very bad and she seemed very impatient. I have been there many times and every time and the previous sever who severed us was aJapanese girl's service attitude was very good. Today because of A my whole day is ruined, especially on holiday. I bought two cakes just to ask her to pack them separately and she responded by rolling her eyes. She made me never want to buy cakes from this store again. It was so bad! I hope their manager can see that her attitude is terrible and to rethink about hiring such people. read more
I really enjoy their soft cheese cake. Not too sweet and freshly made daily. I have tried 2 different flavors and both were scrumptious! The cashier was friendly and helpful. They have small cut size sample at the counter if you aren't sure which ones to get. They also give out stamp card. Definitely a place to be revisited repeated. 4.8 out of 5! read more
This spot is tucked away by what used to be Jays birds and next to side chick in the Santa Anita mall. The cakes here are something that I have never had. I appreciate Uncle Tetsu being open to receiving feedback! The first time I tried the original cheesecake, I wasn't super impressed with how bland the flavor was but their staff proactively acknowledged the feedback and would work on improving. I gave it another try and this time I opted for getting the ube cheesecake. I got it for Mother's Day weekend so it was a nice bonus to see they even had Happy Mother's Day written on it. The ube flavor was nice without being overly sweet. Texture was consistently smooth. Most importantly my mom was a fan of this so that's what matters most! If you've got a sweet tooth, this might not hit the spot for some but for those of us who aren't, this is just right. read more

As the hype has died down a little & the overall experience is now super breezy (walk up and order and get your goodies without having to wait an inordinate amount of time), it's time for an update! Their menu has significantly expanded with various flavors like chocolate, strawberry, matcha. My local friends have HIGHLY recommended the new burnt basque cheesecake offering (Meet the our take on this European classic! Coated with a caramelized exterior that serves as a natural crust, our Burnt Basque Cheesecake is made of a super creamy interior with a lemony, custard-like center.) It was fantastic! In true Uncle Tetsu fashion, it was soooo light & fluffy. My family also really enjoyed the lemon-y notes. They also have an Oreo basque one which is probably phenomenal as well. I also ordered the black sesame because I love all things black sesame! It's very subtle but enjoyable. In comparison, this definitely was more like a light fluffy cake vs the divine texture of the basque. Last notes - *temperature - my family and I like it best right out of the fridge (vs eating it room temperature) even though you can eat it either way. *cost - two of these 6" cheesecake ran about $30. It was plenty to go around for 4 people and we had it with multiple meals. I'll be back for the Ube! read more

The lines have died down since my last review, but the cheesecake quality has remained consistent. I've had them a couple times more and the different flavors of cheesecake that they have now definitely have kept them interesting. I tried the limited pumpkin-flavored Japanese Cheesecake and it was perfect for the fall season. It definitely tastes like pumpkin pie, but the texture is so fluffy! I also enjoyed trying the cheese tarts which were full of cheesy flavors that melt in your mouth. I like egg tarts more, but these were a great treat too, especially for those who really love cheese. read more
Don't believe the hype! I see these things all over IG. Had to try it for myself before I say anything. I was in the area and I figured this was the right time. No line! Was it supposed to be warm? It says they're made fresh. I asked the cashier if it was fresh since she just grabbed one and put it in a bag for me. I guess we have different definitions of fresh. Anyway. The service is great. That's why I'm giving two stars. In my honest opinion, this thing is over priced. It's based on location, presentation and hype. Was it good? Yea! Was it worth $12? No way! I can get just as good satisfaction from an .88 cent donut. It's in the Santa Anita mall and the box and bag it comes in is cute. So that's why you get that price tag. Quality ingredients? Maybe. Not going to argue that. My cake was flaky. I heard it was spongy and fluffy. And it was. Soft too. It had a good taste to it but I'm almost sure my cake was a day old lol not complaining. I don't want a refund. I'm glad I came and got the experience. Now I know. Never again. Probably from another vendor. It's all hype fam. You're paying big money for a cute bag and location. This original cheesecake tart has a double-baked, flaky crust with rich, tangy custard cream cheese filling, hailing all the way from Hokkaido, Japan. It doesn't quite compare to the cheesecake but is a simple treat if you're looking for something easy to split between friends while strolling through the mall. read more

I have tried Uncle Tetsu's original cheesecake flavor numerous times from this location, and it never disappoints! But this time, I was feeling something different. I chose their matcha cheesecake and cheese tarts. It was about $11-12 for the matcha cheesecake and four cheese tarts for $15. The cheese tarts are delicious! The richness and creaminess of the cheese part was absolutely amazing. It was very fluffy. I enjoyed the crust the most! I think that the tarts are absolutely massive in person too. The matcha cheesecake was pleasant as well. It has a robust but not overpowering flavor of matcha. The consistency of the cheesecake was also fluffy and cheesy. Each bit was light, delicious, and melted nicely in my mouth. I love the printed graphic on the cake. It is so cute! I want to try their other flavors too. I saw that they came out with a black sesame flavor, which sounds very intriguing. Hopefully, they are just as good as the matcha! read more
