Solid 3.5 stars. I'd been wanting to try this location for awhile and finally stopped in. There was a wait as usual but my food was piping hot. It was still hot by the time I got home and ate it. The wings weren't tiny but smaller than I would have liked. The mild sauce wasn't plentiful but tasty. The chicken had good crunch and seasoning. My grandmama said her fish was good but no one got a roll. I thought they didn't provide one but previous yelp pics shows a roll. The customer service was solid. Cashier was friendly and professional; remembered who had what orders. Place was clean with a few tables scattered throughout. It was very hot but they didn't have AC on in the front, just a fan but I could tell the back had AC. Which makes sense because the cooks are working with heat but on 100 degree days I would think they want their customers to be cool while they wait. Uncle Remus will not get my business anymore and this is why (Broadview location): Long read, but worth it!! I had the worst experience at this location. First of all, you can only make online orders therefore you can't talk with anyone (literally there's no option to talk with anyone and I'll get back to that shortly). I placed my order (quite large order) about 8:45pm and the online system said "pick up" time was 9:45pm (which really should've said "we'll start to cook your order" at 9:45). I arrive at 9:35pm and see about 5-6 people impatiently waiting in line. After standing in line for 10 mins and after watching each customer in front of me complain about their food not being ready, I finally arrive at the window. The girl behind the counter kept walking to the back so when she finally came back to the window, I gave her my order info. She immediately said and without checking, "It'll be up shortly". Then she disappeared to the back AGAIN. (Now, it's already been an hour since I placed the order.) After waiting another 10mins in the lobby with every other customer complaining about their experience here, I had enough. When she came from hiding in the back, I ask for the status of my order. Once again, without checking and like it's her automatic response she said, "It'll be ready shortly". I wasn't waiting anymore nor was I spending my money here. I immediately asked for a refund. The girl just looked me dead in my face and walked to the back again without acknowledging my request. I'm furious at this point, so I'm yelling to the back for her to give me my refund. The cooks tell me my order is coming up soon. SOON? As a matter of fact, didn't y'all just start cooking it? I don't want the food anymore! I want a refund!!! They said they don't give refunds!! I said ok cancel my order then cause I haven't received it; besides y'all just started cooking it. The whole time, the girl still hasn't come from hiding in the back. Now, 5 mins go by of me going back and forth with the cooks about cancelling my order, then ol' girl comes from the back and says I have to email "feedback@uncleremususa.com" to cancel my order. Are you kidding me? Now I have to jump thru more hoops because this establishment can't get it right. (It seems as if Uncle Remus has set up their operation with the intention of not granting cancellation requests nor refunds because there's no option on their website to do this; nor can you talk to someone because every phone number leads back to the same automated voice system that still gives no option to talk with someone! UGH!!!) Left with no other choice, I had to follow their "only" process for getting my order cancelled and my money back so I went ahead and emailed them the next day, which was Saturday. I didn't hear anything back so I emailed again on Wednesday. Still no response and I'm not giving up so I decided to scour the internet to find a phone # for corporate. Eureka!! I found a number for their HR hiring department. I called and spoke with an HR lady and explained my situation to her. She carefully listened to my complaint, took my info and said I would be hearing back from Customer Service immediately. This was Wednesday. I waited and still nothing so I called her back on Friday. She couldn't believe I still hadn't gotten a response and she guaranteed I would hear back the next day but asked if she could call me to follow up to ensure I was contacted. After jumping thru major hoops and "1 week later", Customer Service finally responded asking for details about my experience and what went wrong. REALLY? Now you want to know? Well, first off why would it be this difficult to get in touch with "customer service" if you really wanted to know; secondly why did it take for me to send 2 emails to you and had to call HR twice just for you to respond a week later pretending like you care. Y'all don't care!! Bottom line: they don't care about customer service and "BUYER BEWARE" that they are trying everything they can NOT to "Service the Customer". The only helpful person was in HR. Hopefully, she is now aware of their problems first hand and will strive to make it better because I want and will support our own, but Uncle Remus has shown me they don't care to have my business!!! I plan on reporting them to the BBB because if I didn't do my research and gotten in touch with someone that made them follow up and issue my refund, I feel they would've kept my money and that's a crime. read more

I placed an order for 15 wings and a large fry online at 6:45pm and we arrived at 8pm (although the email said it would be read by 7:15pm). This really isn't that different from Harold's Chicken Shack but my significant other seems to think so. The only difference I see is that one chain is more concentrated in the Western parts of Chicago and the other chain on the South. And I believe all the chicken "shacks" in Chicago are relatively cheap so prices are good for me. The menus are damn near identical. I ordered chicken tenders and fries here. The sauces taste similar too. Overall, I liked it. Because I like fried chicken and spicy sauces....oh & hot fries. Oh & as one commenter on here Yelped, they were kind of cheap and skimpy with the sauce. Like geez! I went to this particular Uncle Remus in December 2012 (last month), it appeared to be renovated or new. Located on the NW corner of Roosevelt and 18th Street, there is angled street parking up on 18th Street. The menu is pretty straightforward at the front of the store and you order on the right. There's a fair amount of seating at tables and counter space with stools. The fountain drinks are on the left. It closes at 10 during the week and 11 on weekends. I ordered the rib tips/chicken combo and ordered dark. They didn't have any hot sauce left so it was just mild sauce, which wasn't bad. The breading on the chicken was pretty good. It was thick and crumbly and absorbed a good amount of the sauce. The chicken was properly cooked and the meat came off the bone pretty well. The chicken size was pretty decent. The rib tips were meaty. They had some grill marks but a piece or two was a little tough. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is with the value. Two dark pieces and 2 large rib tips with another boneless tip, some fries, and a small roll was $7.99+tax. The quality was pretty good but it was a little pricey. Now down to the staff. They all have the same stoic, clone-like dry a** personalities, quite similar to the currency exchange chicks. If you get a smile, go play the lottery because it's your lucky day. Food can take some time to cook, but I suppose that's a good thing, since it's freshly cooked to order. They are very good for running out of hot peppers, fish- basically anything other than chicken & fries. Just giving a heads up from my experience. To better avoid some bland chicken, ask them to make sure that they season your food, since it wasn't last time you ordered. Hey, it worked for me anyway! The fish is better in my opinion than the famous chicken; that is WHEN/IF they have it available. It's just smaller cuts than JJ's & more expensive, but tastes waaaaay better. You can dine in, if you like. I would most likely never do that since I have yet to see anyone working there clean the tables.
