So I booked Uncle Nats services last minute. She was kind enough to open a 5:00 appointment for me the next day when I DM'ed her the previous night, which I was very thankful for. I got off work at 4:00 pm and then it only took me 30 mins by train. I ended up taking to wrong train into the city instead of Brooklyn and it set me back 10 mins. I would have been 10 mins late. Which was 5 mins past her grace period. I DM'ed her explaining my situation thinking that she would extend the 5 mins, I was even going to offer extra money or a bigger tip since I know people time is very valuable or she may want to go home or have stuff to do. She responded by saying she had a very strict grace period which is only 5 mins. I said okay no problem I have to respect that. She did not make any exceptions. Then she proceeded to charge me for the entire service with a 20% tip. My whole point of this post and review is to bring awareness to business owners just simply not caring and being money hungry. For this simple fact that she couldn't spare 5 extra minutes says a lot! She was very rude because I would not give her the money, and told me to enjoy European Wax Center! No professionalism, just greed which is fine. At the end of the day, service providers have no integrity! And I'm over supporting people who have bad attitudes and are not accommodating. I have been an avid waxer for almost 20 years and decided to try sugaring. I must say that choosing Sugaring Brooklyn was the best decision I could have made. The customer service, the ease of booking appointments on the website, the space, the products...everything is top-notch. William was super helpful when I called 2x prior to booking an appt and patiently answered all of my questions. Upon arrival to this super chic, super clean space, I was greeted by William who is the sweetest human ever. I got to meet Natalie and Ebony who were both just as welcoming as William. I felt like I was in a friend's living room getting educated on everything from food, self-care, amazing products, and some hip things to do in Brooklyn. Everything about the greeting and the waiting room feels like home. My sugaring technician, Erin, did the most detailed client intake session ever. Ering went over safety, my personal health/mental history, and all types of things to ensure that I would be comfortable. Erin also made the payment and tipping policy VERY clear prior to starting my session. There should not be any misunderstanding about the 20% tip for services that will be added to the cost of your services. Erin explained the process thoroughly and offered me a variety of pre-sugar treatments for my lady garden. The sugaring method is much less painful than waxing The oil (highly recommend that you buy a bottle) and hot towel at the end were my favorite. The ONLY con is that parking sucks but it's Brooklyn so what should one expect. I drove in from Jersey and had to circle the block a few times before I found a space around the corner. I love Sugaring Brooklyn! I've been "sugared" three times by three different folks (Natalie, Karmenife, Davina) and each time was amazing. I was really nervous the first time; I've never even waxed before but was so tired of shaving all the time. Natalie walked me through the new client consultation and explained in detail how sugaring works. I've opted for the pumpkin pre-care each time (it's worth it!!) and it smells sooooo good. Wow. They're all so encouraging, letting you know that you can do it! And of course... the results have been great each time. I love not shaving every few days - what a gift. I found Sugaring Brooklyn after getting services at a big chain and walking out every time with new ingrowns. Really bad ingrowns. I had my services with Natalie, and was so impressed with how thoroughly they walked me through the new client intake and asked me questions about any injuries, diseases, disabilities, or traumas that may come up during a Brazilian. Natalie created a non judgemental space than I felt very supported in. The service itself was quick and low pain. I liked how Natalie explained the sugaring process along the way, which was new to me. The pre-care and post care was extremely helpful in exfoliating and then soothing my stubborn and sensitive skin. I was very happy with my service. And, no ingrowns or irritation afterwards! I've been coming to this establishment for quite some time now. I'm so disappointed with the Owner Natalie. I was scheduled for a bikini wax and asked to reschedule my appointment due to getting my period.I spoke with a representative and confirmed my new appointment for a week later. I the get a text from Natalie an hr later. She expected me to pay a cancellation fee (for rescheduling) which is the full service fee plus and an additional 20% and expected me to pay again on my new appointment date. I was so shocked. When I asked her to clarify she became so rude and said I was waisting her time. I have the screenshots!! By the way the website says you pay the full service fee if you cancel or are a no show! Not rescheduling! Then she had the nerve to tell me getting my period is not an excuse to not keep the appointment!! Like what!? I don't get itt! It's not like I canceled, I literally reschedule because of something I could not control! Natalie is probably the sweetest person I've ever met and ever will. During my brazilian, she made me extremely comfortable and educated me about sugaring, technique and even how to help take care of my own skin a bit better. The work environment is serene, calm and clean. I've gone to her twice now but during my first time getting a brazilian wax, I was a mess. I most certainly bawled my eyes out the entire time and Natalie talked me through it, was very comforting and I hate to think of how that would have went with literally anyone else. I messed up my booking appointment and had to pay the full 24 hour cancellation fee even though I rebooked for the next morning. I saw the great star rating on google and decided to book for a more expensive waxing service. I know every company has its qualms so I took a chance. Oh had I wished that I read the yelp reviews and how they (Natalie) responded to all of their negative reviews. If you don't see that and see someone who shouldn't be able to run a business...ew. I commuted an hour to my appointment, and it was at (using a different time than the actual one for privacy) 5:15 PM. The train was having major delays and I was still on time but didn't make it as soon as I would like. I was a block away from the waxing address, and it was 5:12, I noticed the 5-min policy, so I called and let Nat know that I would be making it exactly at 5:15 PM, if anything it would be maybe 2 min after at 5:17 PM. They said no, and that they could get me to come at 8AM the next morning. I pleaded that I was just there and to please serve me as I had a last minute (swim wear lol) modeling gig that I had to fly out to the next day, this wax was ESSENTIAL for my job and my income, and I wanted to get what seemed to be the most inclusive place in Brooklyn since I am black. I was charged for my service plus the 20% service fee. ((I do want to emphasize all of this was written down before the service for you to see. So good luck to anyone who may be coming on a train or car and get stuck in traffic if you're five minutes behind just turn around!! ))) I called at 5:12 and said I won't be there exactly at 5:15 but more like 5:17 (lol), and they were just like "sorry, can book you for tomorrow at 8am"...on a Saturday, and I commuted an hour to get there so do the math at what time I would have to wake up and commute to Flatbush on a Saturday morning, it felt like a set up, whether it was or not. I didn't even want to come back the next morning and get any services done with Nat because that's some really shady business. The karma coming back to this company is going to be tremendous. I also am so disgusted by the review left from the black trans woman. And how you use therapy talk to gaslight your black customers and use words like "reparations" to when talking about restitution, but only because those employees were black. It's just really weird. Nat I know you respond to every bad review but I am being kind here. I wasn't even upset with you because the situation was so ridiculous that it made me laugh. Pros: - super relaxing and nice space - i feel really safe and it's a very comfortable place to ask questions - they are very respectful of both their customers and employees, it seems like people are happy to be working there - they do a very thorough job Cons: - they have a very strict no-show/lateness policy, which i am totally on board for, the technicians time is valuable, but they don't seem to have the same respect for the customers time. I have been last minute rescheduled multiple times with no kind of compensation for my time. - their pre/post-care is very very over priced. its $15 at the cheapest for a few drops of product that is applied in 30 seconds. Listen, EVERY BODY (who gets hair removal services) SHOULD GO!!! EVERY.BODY! And that unintended pun is how I'll start the review. This space is so thoughtfully inclusive (and not in that tacky "we're inclusive because, money gains" kind of way). I can't even describe how relaxed and calm I felt the second Natalie began speaking to me. We were talking about cancellation policies and skin types and I was honestly at peace. Dramatic, you say? Fine. But Natalie makes it very clear that "this is a healing space" and you really feel that. On to the sugaring... So, I started by mentioning the space's energy because that ended up being a tremendous help for me today. It's been about 14 mos since my last Brazilian because my main girl left the old place and the service has gone down. So I did some very heavy research here on Yelp and narrowed it down to 3. I decided to start with Sugaring Brooklyn because it was the only small/local biz on the list. Upon arriving though, I immediately felt anxiety about my tolerance for pain and whether or not a new sugarist would work for me at all (it's really a big deal for me to love the folks who view my bare vagina - lovers, gynecologists and sugarists included lol). So at this point I'm sweating and trying not to blink too much (it's a nervous thing, lol) and upon entering the space, I met Jane (who, btw, is such a cool gal - she's so fun!) the manager who does appts, pymts, etc., and then Natalie escorted me back to the room. We were both seated and they explained some helpful info about Sugaring Brooklyn's policies and practices, the space, etc., and I was welcomed to the table. We discussed various styles based on grooming preference and I opted for the Bikini w/ Booty (I keep forgetting the real name of it and I was calling it a "Deep Bikini" which is important to remember). So Natalie began, explaining the loose paste they use and its ingredients, etc. They then explained that a thicker paste would be better for some of the areas and we went on. Now here's where it gets good: Have you ever accidentally gotten a full Brazilian wax? No, right? Me either...until today. Hear me out, it's a five star review so it was literally the perfect accident. Now, because it's been so long since my last Brazilian, I opted for the Bikini because I knew that after all this time, I'd need to build up pain tolerance before going for it. People, the pain I felt was exactly what I expected to feel for a Bikini area grooming today. And I noticed some of the tugs felt a little deeper than I imagined but 1. It's been forever, 2. as someone who had only gotten Brazilians before, I wasn't sure how deep the bikini tugging went and 3. Natalie's hands are what angel wings are made of!!! There is no way I'd have ever know they were removing all the hair with how quick and light the sugaring tugs were. Upon standing, I noticed all the hair was gone and went into a quick shock because I couldn't believe it! I couldn't believe I had gotten a full Brazilian and didn't even know. LOL!! Natalie was so apologetic upon realizing we'd gone further than I originally asked for (and I couldn't remember the correct name of the "extended bikini" I think? so I wasn't sure if I said something wrong) but for me it was totally fine since this was my go-to in the past. It'll grow back..and I'll definitely be getting the bikinis for a bit, lol, but I know Natalie's got me for the full baldy when I'm ready again.
